Get ready for steam punk like you've never seen it before.
Get more of the quirky, action adventure, and flat our amazing genre mashing you've come to expect from the husband and wife writing duo of Stacy & Jennifer Buck. If you've read any of their other series of books like their Native American zombie horror novel, Squanto Wake the Undead, or their superhero meets drug addiction series, My Angels Have Demons, you know the kind of unique storytelling that only they can provide. If you haven't read any of their other works, you're in for a real surprise.
I admit there was confusion on my part to what I was getting into reading; all the prologues of Part 1 were about Theseus, with Icarus not mentioned until the preview at the end. Yet the title was Icarus's name, so I felt cheated out of what title and cover art seemed to be saying. There was somewhat of a weakness in the prologues, I felt, because they were about Theseus - I think it give too much away of what mysteries Icarus could have discovered about Athens and it's king. Medea and Minos make for interesting antagonists, and hinted bedfellows.
The mother of Theseus seems to be hinted to be Naucrate (unless this is a error) which is also the name of Icarus's dead mother, who might not be so dead after all? So, they could be half-brothers...Otherwise, a interesting twist between action-adventure steam punk and Greek mythology - and there may be more forthcoming as well.
pretty violent read. much like squato undead. a lot of fighting. king theseae fighting king Minos, the evil one and his army of monitors, metal soldiers basically unlikable to take down Athens which will destroy Greece if he succeeds.. But Icurus and Griffin come through nearly at he end of all the fighting when Athens seems hopelessly lost.
If you've read the 1st released books to this series you will want to read this. If you haven't read my, read this it's all of them bundled into 1. the ending is good and really surprising. I was kind of mad. I won't give it away though. all in all I think it's a very creative book, as I said pretty violent and very descriptive. not overdone though. you start with Icurus as a boy then turns quickly into a man. He doesn't like killing other men but has no qualms about killing the cogdon soldiers. their not men, their metal. anyways as it has Been said this is basically mythology twisted. Yes it's mythology shaped into its own kind of story. a very creative story that is well worth taking the time to read.
Stacy Buck has turned it into his own type of story , making it different, not boring, which I find most mythology boring and not this book. I do like the gods and yes some are presented n this book. You can see the hard work put into this book to make it different, interesting, a one of a kind read.
If you like adventure, inventions, cool birds(I love Griffon) , reading about a really brave boy and read about him going from knowing nothing to helping save Athens from the Evil king Minos you will love this book. if you don't like descriptive violence I would stear clear. I no it's not for everyone. but this is truly a great read and it's fast paced , you don't get bored beause it's pretty much non stop action.
I say read it you won't regret it. worthy of he 5stars I gave it.
