Northern Witches #2

A Familiar Problem

Rate this book
Natalia Stokes is a loner, a demon loner with some strange ideas about life and, well, death. Banished from Hell for being a trouble maker, would you believe, Natalia is condemned to walk the earth with no one to communicate with. You’d think that wouldn’t bother her but even loners get lonely.

Everything changes when a chance meeting brings her to Lauren, a witch in trouble, and she sticks around long enough to help her in the guise of her familiar. The problem is, she then realises she doesn’t want to leave. She quickly learns, however, that life doesn’t always go as planned and she is forced to make a decision that will affect her for the rest of her…let’s call it existence.

If she can ever figure out what good is, she’s sure she’ll hate it. But that was before Zerachiel turned up, a hot as Hell angel with a naughty streak a mile wide. To complicate matters even more, a demon arrives in the form of the mighty Abaddon, the subject of a childhood crush. The question is, will she choose good or will she choose evil?

Decisions, decisions…

***

Let me give you a word of advice, be careful what you wish for. Trust me, I’m a demon, I know these things.

So if I'm a demon, how did I end up being a witch's familiar? It wasn't easy, I can tell you. Making it snow in Hell was just the start of it. And where did it get me? Earth, that's where, and I'll tell you now, Hell is like a children’s tea party in comparison.

Saved from obscurity by a posse of witches, I made myself a new home, with friends, but would my new life be enough for me or was there more I was missing? Life on earth was pretty damn boring at times.

Then along came two of the sexiest males a girl could ever dream of. The problem? One was an angel and the other was a demon. Life was just about to get complicated.

Sharon Karaa is a mass of contradictions but two facets of her character have always battled for supremacy; her logical self (let's call him Frank) and her artistic side (lets her call Misty).

Until recently, Frank won every battle, forcing Sharon into a life based on most probable outcome and, to give him his credit, it has led to a fairly comfortable if rather boring life so far.

Then Misty took up kick boxing and gave Frank a good kick in the goodies.

Sharon lives with her husband in a little village north of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. She doesn't have a cat.

**spoiler alert**

Book 2 is Natalia’s story, and if possible it is even better than the first book. Natalia has already shown herself to be fierce and loyal and just a complete badass, with supermodel good looks. It would be easy to hate her for the supermodel looks, but how can you when she has unfailingly protected and defended Lauren in book one? Now we get to delve into her personal life, and it isn’t what I expected.

The opening is a bit clunky, again. There’s something about obvious scene-setting explanations that don’t appeal to me in books. They always sound like the scene-setting explanation in play scripts, which isn’t to be shared with the audience, but is given as an aid to the actors. I prefer to jump right in and have the backstory revealed to me as the story unfolds. The obviousness here is quickly forgiven, as I got sucked up into Natalia’s life.

All of our old friends are back, and a few new ones are added to the mix: a blonde Adonis angel, and a tall, dark, and handsome demon. There’s no shortage of eye candy here, or chaos. Do you expect anything less, with Agnes and Geordie hanging around?

Natalia cracks me up with her antics. Getting kicked out of Hell for making it snow? Hysterical! Being pissed off about having to hang out in a sunny, flower-filled field, because it is too happy? Ha! She makes me laugh. “What are these feelings I am having???” Funny stuff.

There was a point that I was groaning, as I thought I knew how things were going to play out. It seemed so obvious, and so identical to a situation in the first book. Surprise! It didn’t go that way at all. Not being a fan of the obvious, or of formulaic writing, I was quite pleased that I couldn’t accurately anticipate anything in this book. Except that there is a HEA. I won’t say with who, though….

I thoroughly enjoyed this, and am a smidge impatient for book three. Alas, I don’t think it has been written yet, so I have a bit of a wait ahead of me.

Let me start out by saying I love a book that I don't want to skip any pages, I also love when a book draws me in and makes me care about the characters and the problems they have. That being said I am usually not a really big fan of series because they can go one of two ways, either up to parr with book one or the author just puts words in to fill space. In this instance Ms. Karas you have hit another home run with me.

If you've read book one, and if you haven't you really should, you're familiar with Natalia Stokes. Natalia is Lauren's familiar, and it turns out she's also a demon. Curcumstances cause her to be bonded with Abaddon. The same Abaddon they trapped in the vial when he tried to possess Lauren in the fight for her life with the demented souls in book one. Now Abaddon isn't your run of the mill demon oh no he's the ruler of the abyss and a demon Natalia has had the hots for since forever. Now Natalia has to figure out how to unbond with him and get him out of her head. On top of that she's got an angel trying to redeem her, she's got to watch over Lauren, deal with Agnes popping in and out and lots of visits to Heaven and Hell. I absolutely love Natalia and her snarky attitude . Plenty of action, comedy, sexy angels, sexy demons, and of course cross dressing witches. I will definitely be reading the next book. I absolutely loved the follow up. Start with book one, although I think you could read it as a stand alone but the background really helps you to understand the story and motivation better. Natalia is a kickass heroine who I was routing for the entire book. The ending was outstanding as was the book in general. I love humorous romance and was definitely not disappointed. Warning it is very not reverential but still enjoyable. 5 Stars and I can't wait for more!

Another great book by the wonderful Miss Karaa.

I'd you thought the first one was funny- be prepared for Angels and Demons - the humorous version. I quit enjoyed the mating dance of the demons, after enjoying the first in the series that gave us the witches version. Seriously, this series has to be in your TBR pile. Soon. Now. Just order it already- you will not be disappointed.

Cute and funny

We met Lauren in the first book as a familiar but she is really a demon that's been kicked out of Hell. She's contemplating redemption and has two men looking to love her. Will she choose the demon or the angel? All the favorite characters are back and will make you laugh

This is the third of Sharon's books that I have read... and the second in her Northern Witches series.

I moved straight onto "A Familiar Problem" just minutes after completing "The Last Challenge" and oh my.... I'm so glad I did!

I loved "The Last Challenge" but the character who I enjoyed the most was feisty, kick-everyone's-butt Natalia. So how thrilled I was to discover that she was the main character in book two!

Natalia - much like myself - is a grumpy, foul-mouthed woman with a big heart for those she loves... plus a love of leather trousers. Unlike me - she's drop-dead gorgeous and has a penchant for causing trouble. Okay - maybe I do like to cause a little trouble now and again. She is massively entertaining and some of the scrapes she gets into are hilarious! This book takes the good vs evil genre and tips it up on its head... proving that life (okay and death) is never as simple as it seems.

A stonking great lighthearted read and one I would wholeheartedly recommend!

I've now started book three in the series and am enjoying that too - so no doubt a review will follow for that in the next few days too:

Thanks Sharon - you've livened up my evenings!

Battling highly charged human emotions was not part of Natalia’s plans. She’d been content living up to her demon potential before feelings got in the way.

As trouble in hell erupts, Natalia battles redemption on earth. Between admitting her love for another, joining therapy to quicken her redemption process and protecting the world and her new family she’s got her hands full.

But there is always room for a little lust in the mix, and as a demon at heart she isn’t afraid of the consequences.

As Natalia’s lover becomes trapped in the middle of Good vs. Evil, will angels and demons be able to work together to find common ground and conquer the new enemy? or will Natalia’s new found love be ripped away sending her redemption out the window as fury seeps into her veins?

This book is part of a three book series and needs to be read as such to grasp the complexity that is Natalia.

Recommended for those who enjoy steamy Paranormal Romance.

Different take

This is the first time I have read anything by this author so I wasn't sure what to expect. Story was a bit odd to start with but became interesting rather quickly. Personally I would have liked to see her get both men rather than choose one. But interesting read. Look forward to reading the rest of the series
