SOME FACTS ABOUT ME:

I'm a New Zealander from Auckland, with dual citizenship (NZ and Croatia). I've also lived in Kerikeri, Singapore and Papua New Guinea.

CAREER PATH: I started off as a Graphic Designer, then went to Auckland University, where I got a BA degree in Art History and Italian Studies and a post-graduate Honors degree in Art History. I worked in the Art History field, then became a full-time artist, doing commissions. I eventually lost all of my senses and gave it up to be a self-published writer, publishing my first book in 2011. Though, earlier in 2023 I returned to art, shelving being a writer since book pirates made it impossible to earn a living from my work, excessively pirating my books. They basically broke my spirit. However, a very nice reader spurred me on to try again, so I'm attempting to revive my writing career.

BAD HABITS: I'm a major procrastinator, I stay up way too late, and I get distracted far too easily unless it's doing something I love. My mind never stops racing, can't turn ADHD off.

SPORTS: As a teenager my favourite sports were karate, badminton, and running. I also did unarmed combat and played in a touch rugby team (my gym teacher made me do the last one!) As an adult, I've couched soccer and have completed two marathons, numerous half-marathons and one 30K run, though I stick to the gym now, hanging up my running shoes.

STATUS: Married to my high school sweetheart (which he hates me calling him). We have two kids.

I read this:

Upon seeing Ricardo again, she attempts to deny her feelings for him, terrified of falling into another violent relationship.

But Ricardo isn't one to be denied a second time, Bianca not knowing what hit her.

RICARDO is a story about a mafia run Mediterranean island where 5 mafia families are vying to be the overall ruling family. The Santini family is in need of a new Don because their father, who has been Don, is ailing and no longer able to rule sanely. Ricardo is first in line for this position and he is bound and determined to be the Don for his family. His first love, Bianca, re-enters his life after a tragedy puts her on the run from another mafia family.

description

RICARDO has very little angst and mystery throughout the story. I was hoping for more of both of those things as I journeyed with the Santini family as they battled with the other mafia families. The epilogue holds promise for some drama with "The Hitman" being the hero in the next book for this series. I have not read 'My Masters' Nightmare' series but lovers of that series will find glimpses of Jagger in this book.

I appreciated the user-friendly guide that was put in at the beginning of book. It included who the five mafia families are and a description of each family member. Also added was an Italian/English Glossary which came in handy.

MEET THE 'SANTINI' MAFIA FAMILY:
Ricardo (Senior): Don.
♥Concetta♥: mother to 10 grown children all born within the space of ten years.
~~~~~~~~~
Ricardo (Junior): (37 years old) Heir to becoming Don. Hotheaded.
Salvatore: (36 years old) Loyal and right hand man to Ricardo. Tallest in the family (6'5"). Gentle giant.
♥Rosa Aggio♥: childhood sweetheart. Short (5')
~~~~~~~~~
Valentino: (35 years old) love child of Senior. Widower.
~~~~~~~~~
Brando: (34 years old) a hitman. Beautiful...coloring like a D'Angelo. Filled with hate.
~~~~~~~~~

♥Sergio Rosso♥: from mafia family - Rosso. Are on the run from the mafia family - Landi.

Here's the YouTube Book Teaser Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2b1s3...

I will let you all know when the full book trailer comes out...

I am reprising this series. I'm currently writing the third novel in the series, about the twins: Vincenzo (Vinnie) and Dominic.

https://www.amazon.com/Ricardo-Santin...

_____

For MY MASTERS' NIGHTMARE readers, this is a spin off from that series and should be read anytime after Episode 11.

A note for people who haven't read My Masters' Nightmare: it's not needed, although it does have extra information about the 5 mafia families as well as introducing Alessandro Santini and Bianca D'Angelo, who are in RICARDO. Though, a warning, My Masters' Nightmare is considerably darker than the Santini Brothers. My Masters' Nightmare is about a human trafficking family and is a soap opera serial, while the Santini Brothers series is about a gunrunning family and are full length novels.

***********************

INTRODUCING THE SANTINI FAMILY

Ricardo (Senior) – the Santini don.
Conchetta – The mother of all but Valentino.

The Santini children from the oldest to the youngest:

Ricardo (Junior)
description
The heir to becoming the Don. He is 37 years old and unmarried. Due to taking an illegal drug eight years ago for his Intermittent Explosive Disorder, he damaged his nervous system and can no longer feel touch in 90% of his body. He now takes another illegal drug to curb his rage.

Salvatore
description
Age 36. Married to Rosa Aggio. They have two young children, Mia and Piero. He is Ricardo's right-hand man.

Valentino – 35. He's not acknowledged as a Santini since he's the result of an affair his father had with a prostitute. He's the father of Mira and Siena. His wife was murdered by Pedro Landi’s soldiers due to having Rosso blood.

Brando
description
34, unmarried, and the only Santini with golden eyes (the rest have either violet or blue eyes). He has an uncanny resemblance to Jagger D'Angelo. He works as a hitman for his family.

Anna – 33 and married to Sergio Rosso. They have three young children: Bruno, Cara, and Lena.

Luciano – 31 and a widower with one child: Giorgio. He is still mourning his wife’s tragic death from a car accident five years prior.

Dominic and Vincenzo – The rocker twins are 29. They are singers and guitarists in a hard rock band, which has a cult following. They are single. Dominic is the comedian of the family, and is also a "finder", someone who finds people who are in hiding. He's also very good with electronics and is fond of tattoos and piercings. Vincenzo, otherwise known as Vinnie, is an explosive expert and only likes tattoos, not sharing his twin's piercing fetish.

Silvio – 28. He’s a Catholic priest.

Bella
description
27 and wheelchair bound. Was in the same car that killed Luciano’s wife.

Alessandr – Age: 27. He is 10 months younger than Bella. He was born prematurely and was not expected to survive. He became famous after working as a porn star, his muscular body and sexual prowess gaining him a legion of fanatical female fans. He is currently a sex slave trainer. He is covered in tattoos and piercings (much more than Dominic), his Prince Albert and huge sexual appetite gaining him notoriety amongst the mafia community.

Maybe she liked cruel bastards who treated her badly, or maybe she chose them because she was looking for someone to replace Ricardo.

This was my first book by Marita, and it's definitely not going to be my last. Being a huge fan of the dark romance genre and particularly when that dark romance involves some mafia, I jumped at the chance to read this one. Now while there were a few things that kept it from being a 4 or 5 star read for me, I did still enjoy it quite a bit.

This book focuses on the eldest of the Santini clan, Ricardo, who was a very interesting character to say the least. Having extreme anger issues due to his Intermittent Explosive Disorder and having lost feeling in ninety percent of his body due to taking an experimental drug for it 8 years ago, one thing is for sure: he is one ruthless and cold motherfucker. And I am talking RUTHLESS.

Years ago, his one love, Bianca, had left him not being able to handle his rage. Now life or death circumstances throw them together once more in a story filled with suspense, action, steam, violence, and so many twists and turns you'll be biting your nails sitting on the edge of suspense from cover to cover.

The story itself while being highly convoluted was a very entertaining read, and I can certainly say I will be jumping at the chance to read the next book. But unfortunately there were just a few things that kept me from enjoying it fully. Let me try to break it down the best I can.

The Story
I had a very difficult time getting into the story from the beginning as there was quite a lot going on. In addition there were quite a number of different characters introduced; all members of the Santini clan as well as 4 other mob families. A large majority of these characters also had a back story (some of which seems to come from the My Masters' Nightmare story line). This made it very difficult to keep all of them straight; their names, their story. The author did include character break down and glossary at the end, which I found myself having to constantly refer to. This made it very distracting, at least for me.

Numerous POVs
I have to say I thought that the author did an amazing job weaving all the POVs together throughout the story. These did not feel unnecessary in the least and truly helped build the intricate world that Marita created. However, I did feel that the numerous POVs often muted the central characters for me, particularly Bianca. This is someone that is the heroine of the story, yet a side character (The Viper) had more focus than she did.

The Romance
Unfortunately with so many things that were happening throughout the book, the romance really took a second seat to everything else as opposed to everything else being built around it. There was A LOT going on and ALL OF IT highly entertaining, but I just wish I got a little more of the romance to go along with it. I really loved Ricardo and Bianca together, but I suppose I needed something more.

Those three things aside, I can tell you that I still enjoyed this book. IMMENSELY so. I'm thinking those readers that have read My Masters' Nightmare series will enjoy this book even more. However, as the synopsis stated, this can also be read as a standalone. But just be advised that it may take a while to truly grasp all the details and everything that's going on. The set up for the next book, which I'm hoping will be Brando, sounds right up my alley. I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on that book. Truly. It sounds utterly delicious.

May I present exhibit A?
Get out of my room, you misogynistic pig."
"Contrary to what they say about me, I'm all about women's rights: their right to take my cock up their culo."

Exactly. I rest my case.

One thing is for sure, I am definitely hooked on this series and can't wait for more.

Genre: Romantic Suspense

“I told them to have their guns at the ready.”
“Bravo. I’ll see you soon, brother.”
“You better, Ricardo, because if you die, I will come down to Hell and kill you again.” Ricardo barked out a laugh. “I’ll be seeing you either way, then, and good luck with keeping our madre from killing Valentino.” Salvatore laughed , his voice going serious a second later. “I love you, brother. Live for me.”

Not just a romance. Brotherhood, family and vengeance are strongly interlaced in to Ricardo as readers get to meet eleven, that’s right ELEVEN BAD A** ALPHA MALES! And some FIERCE FEMALE counterparts!

 photo Ricardocollagefinal1_zps3624982c.jpg

Ricardo starts off with one brother, Valentino, seeking protection for his two daughters knowing their lives are in danger from a mafia war he did not start yet feels will be the death of him and his daughters. Valentino already lost his wife to this war he now asks this one thing of his older brother Ricardo… Protection. The mafia war now being the catalyst which jump starts everything in the story once the Santini brothers enter it.

I Declare War
The Landi family is on a murderous rampage. The Don, Pedro Landi vowing to slaughter men, women and children after two of his daughters are murdered. Although, the Santini’s were not his main target they soon become it after protection is granted to Valentino’s two girls.
The Santini family is the largest on the Island where all the players reside; Ricardo’s mother having birthed ten children to her husband, a man now bed ridden from an unknown illness. When the sh*t hits the fan Ricardo decides it’s time for him to take the helm and be the Don. His family agrees…well everyone except for his mother.

‘Seeing the Donatelli coming, Bianca had panicked and ran, only looking back at the sound of yelling…’

On The Run
Bianca D’Angelo is the first love of Ricardo Santini. She is also the one he let walk away due to the fact she could not handle who he really was. A killer. Now they find their paths colliding. With her life in danger as well as the lives of his entire family, Ricardo decides that total annihilation is the only way to go.

While the mafia war progresses family secrets come to light, infiltrators surface, hearts are broken and death comes.

My thoughts
In true Marita A. Hansen fashion the story is told from multiple pov’s which I LOVED! This may not work for everyone. There are a TON of characters with multiple plot lines, if this a writing style you are NOT use to it can get confusing. Me? I’m use to it.

As previously stated Hansen gives us eleven HOT ALPHA MALES to choose from. I mean what more can a girl ask for right! The brothers are delicious and I am eager to get and know each and every one of them. I won’t lie a couple characters reminded me of a few in another book I’ve read that shall not be named. Never the less they were NOT replica’s they just gave off a feel that I like but it also felt a tad familiar. If that makes sense to any one beside me… *raises both eyebrows*

The Writing: The writing was good. The book starts and ends in high suspense. I was continually kept on my toes for what came next and even when I predicted something would happen and it did I was wrong about the how…I was only right about the who.. Sorry I know that may seem confusing but I don’t want to spoil a plot line.

All in all I enjoyed the book and found myself being entertained with each new chapter. I think the various pov’s made it that much more entertaining and gave us a lot more sub plots that can continue in to a book two, three and so on.

The Characters:
The Viper Girls? LOVE!! They are bad a** assassin’s team with an agenda.
The Santini brothers? I want! I want! I want! Each offers something different but Brando LOVES HIM! He’s dark, moody and broodingly dangerous, lord help me that man has got me by the panties. Salvatore and Alessandro are a close second and third. I WANT MORE!

Why readers will love Ricardo- Strong ALPHA male, cold hearted but not necessarily by choice, you will have to read the book to understand why. He also does not mince words; he speaks what he knows to be true even if it will make him look bad in the process. We all have a soft spot for an A-hole..Or is that just me? *Wink, wink*

Why readers will love Bianca- She’s straight forward, strong willed and takes no bs from anyone. Not even a mafia Don. I prefer my heroines strong and she was that.

My Rating and Why
Why 3.5 STARS? I’ll tell you. The story is very fast paced and at times I felt like it could have slowed allowing certain plot lines to be a bit meatier. Now even though Ricardo and Bianca are the main couple it honestly did not feel that way. The book had so much going that the fast pace became a double edge sword. The only way to work that out in my opinion is if the book would have been longer say an extra twenty five to thirty pages.
We do get romance but not as much as I would have liked. In other words this did not feel like it was their story. Things could have been expanded on with them; such as more history info between them, maybe a flashback to know how they met… I don’t know, I just felt like some things were missing within their story. I found myself wanting more between the two.

My Ratings
Characters- Sexy, Dangerous, Broken plus a lot more..
Writing Style- Good. The story is told in multiple pov’s and has various plotlines
Plot/Storyline- Lovers reunited in the midst of a war. Mafia jumps off and the Santini clan enters after vowing protection to two girls.
Steam Factor- High/Very Steamy On a scale of 1-10 I say 8.5
Entertainment Level- Lo-Med-Hi I say High, I was thoroughly entertained
Overall- I very much enjoyed it!

Now go forth and read. Then come tell us about it on Goodreads!

This was what I was like when I got the ARC for RICARDO

description

This was what I was like after finishing RICARDO

description

That ending!!! Be still my beating heart, I have fallen for a hitman who is both an arsehole and one beautiful bastard. I can't wait until Brando is out, I want his book in my grubby hands now. He was sexy as hell.

Okay ... I'll stop talking about Ricardo's brother and actually attempt to do a proper review ... sigh ... I hate doing reviews ... because I'm lazy, but this book is worth doing one for. It was action packed, with mafia hotness galore. This must be the hottest mafia family, because I was drooling over more than one of the brothers. Of course Brando was my favourite, how could he not be! He looks like Jagger from MMN but is a bigger arsehole. Why do I love the arseholes in books? I'm talking about him again. Back to Ricardo, the main man of the story, the one on the cover and the oldest of the brothers. He was one hot tamale with a roaring hot temper. He has Intermittent explosive disorder, which makes it very hard for him to control his temper. He doesn't just have a bad temper, he has violent rages. When he loses control he can even hurt the ones he loves, without realizing it. I've never heard of this condition, so looked it up on Google, and learned something new.

Okay ... I'm digressing. His love interest is Bianca D'Angelo from MMN. Yippee! Bianca finally gets a man who wants her! Boy, does Ricardo want her and bad. The sex scenes were hotter than hot. He is one tamale I want to peel and lick even if he burns my tongue. Ivy wanted to do the same to him. But alas assassin bitch he didn't want you. hahahahahha Brando wants her though, but he wasn't very nice about getting something from her. During that scene my eyes were popping out. I loved it.

I'm doing a terrible review. I'll get down to the nitty gritty. The story captured me straight away with the mafia war. This nasty don wants to kill Ricardo's nieces so he is asked to protect them, which flings them even more into the war. Ricardo also has to contend with his mother, who is a bitch from hell. She doesn't want him to be don so causes him major trouble. Cutting to the chase! After a certain point in the story everything came together and the author lit the fuse and whooosh, like one of the rock propelled grenades in the book, the story shot off at fall speed and was very fast paced. All hell broke loose and there was major action. The Vipers, the female assassins, were GREAT. They were kick ass fighters and so entertaining to read about. And the brothers fought hard too. I loved the twins, Dominic and Vinnie were super hilarious and I definitely want to jam with the sexy rockers, you know what I mean ;) Salvatore was super lovely, and I felt terrible for something that went down in relation to him.

Sigh. I will stop. All the brothers were delish. I will look forward to more stories about the Santini brothers, the sexy SOBs. I will also look forward to those viper assassins entertaining me. Bring on BRANDO baby!!!

☆ I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you SO MUCH hun!! Review to be posted on my blog on August 1st, 2014. ☆

3.5 stars!!

description

#A stunning, intricate, action packed masterpiece filled with a wide array of entanglements from: secrets, lies, betrayal, revenge, deception, old and new foes and enemies; as well as love, power plays, seduction, and heart pounding decision making where one mistake could result in blood, loss, ruin, and even... an all out war!

My thoughts: As an entirety, the plot, story line, and characters were well crafted and thought out. There are some issues with cohesiveness and execution in certain significant turning points and character points, but overall, I thought everything to be fresh and to be out of the box compared to a lot of reads I’ve come across in a long time.

++But on a side note: And this is just PURELY a suggestion, but maybe it would have been better to have moved the characters and glossary to the back of the book? I don’t know. For me, it would have relieved the initial tension and anxiety I had when starting Ricardo because opening the beginning pages was extremely frightening and overwhelming. I mean, as a person who knows about 10 words of Italian and to get a crash course of it and 30+ people (from five different mafia families and their backgrounds) was a bit stupefying and mind boggling to say the least. ++

SO, WITH THAT SAID...

All in all, I do recommend this read to those who are looking for a dark mafia romance! But then again, since when are mafia reads ever light? Wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of being in a mafia or reading one of that particular genre in the first place? The build up angst and uncertainty of the situation is what sells it for me. I'm sure it does for you readers as well!

Be prepared for the first in a series guys!! Ricardo's coming to your e-readers August 14th, 2014!

3 stars!

This is my first Marita Hansen book and definitely will not be my last.

I liked Ricardo but I just didn't love it. I appreciated how Marita Hansen created this brutal world of mafia crime syndicates and their families with it colorful characters. And while the action is intense, this fell a bit short on the romance side.

This book is about a war between two mafia families and Ricardo as the titular character fights for the Santini family -- our main family protagonist. But it's not as simple as that because aside from the Landi's other families are also involved -- the Rossi, Donatelli and the D'Angelo's. Throw in some super secret group of assassins, this book just throws you one surprising twist after another. Which I enjoyed. For the most part.

Now for the positives...

The twists and turns of this book keep me glued to Kindle. Simply put, I was entertained, amused, shocked by the events as they unfolded in the book. Some of the things that happened were brutal and some made me tear up a little bit.

Another positive is Ricardo. I liked him. I feel his pain and his dilemma especially in dealing with his condition.

I also liked most of the side characters especially Dominic and Vinnie and Salvatore. Their banter was great and is a high point in the story for me. They brought comedic relief to an otherwise violent and depressing book.

Now for the not so positive things...
This book had too much going on. I got overwhelmed by too many things that are happening at once. Too many families are involved with too many personalities that I could hardly keep up with who's who. The Glossary did help but it's a bit of a hassle since who really wants to keep flipping back to the glossary when all you want to do is read? No one. But they helped a little. But still, it got really convoluted.

While all these exciting machinations going on with the families involved, Ricardo must also contend with the return of his first love Bianca. Now Bianca, I learned, is a character from Marita's other series My Master's Nightmare. Now, I haven't read that series, which probably affected my overall enjoyment of this book because I never really understood Bianca's backstory, KWIM?

It also didn't help that except for the sex, Ricardo and Bianca didn't really spend much time together. Their romance was more of an afterthought, a side show to the mafia war. And I wanted more.

Overall Thoughts...
Despite my problems with this book, it still managed to captivate and hold my attention. The characters are intriguing enough that I'll definitely be continuing on with the series just to see how things are going to be after that last chapter.

And lastly, while My Master's Nightmare is not a prerequisite in order for you to enjoy this book, I still feel that it would help with the backstory if you'll read that series especially with Bianca. Other than that, not having read My Master's Nightmare shouldn't hinder you for picking this on up and reading it.

Describe this book in one gif...

description

Chapter One

Book begins with Valentino as POV.

He is talking to his body guard, Niko.

It's like a fucking role call ....

He has a man-ho half brother, Alessandro.
Pedro Landi, Don to one of five mafia families on the island. A dead wife, Maria, murdered by Landi mafia. Maria's family is on the run from the Landi. His oldest brother, Ricardo , who no one is crazier nor more evil than and who he hopes will usurp power over his family from their father and Concetta Santini. Concetta Santini, stepmom and who he thinks ordered his own mother's death. Black Vipers, female assassins hired by Don Landi to kill Valentino. The Rossos ....no fucking idea at all who the fuck they are... But apparently, unlike the Landi who only attack when provoked, the Rossos kill defenseless children.

description

The point of this role call is that Valentino needs Ricardo to take his daughters in because he's about to get whacked.

So, in walks Ricardo.

Chapter Two

Bianca D'Angelo is at the POV helm. She was with Alessandro and his girlfriend when the Donatelli caused them to wreck. She ran, leaving Alessandro and girlfriend with guns pointed at them. She's being chased by the most hated mafia family on the island, the Donatelli I presume. These are also the peeps who murdered Pedro Landi's daughters. They're after her because she accidentally killed the Don's nephew while attempting to poison her "sadistic husband." No worries, she said he deserved it, too.

As she's running, she notes she's in the worst area of town ...thanks to the Rosso famiglia who fill shit with sex and grime. She finds herself at a Rosso strip club, but she can't get in because apparently everyone on the island knows that the D'Angelos are under house arrest. Why? How? Who knows.

Anyway, blow job for a phone, says the bouncer. Runs. Oh, how she wishes she was on the neighboring island with her parents because her husband is indeed dead (Who knows how) and her lover, Jagger, has forsaken her for another woman.

Bazam... Nostalgia time over because suddenly two new peeps are harassing her, one of whom is Tito Donatelli, a Rossos' pimp. He just so happens to be the nephew of the man she poisoned. OOOOOOH, hope he doesn't recognize her!!! Tito and his buddy, Malik, stone her, and then they of course recognize her.

Run! Caught. They'll molest her before taking her to Christo, their Don. Somehow, the bitch manages to squeeze Malik's balls and hard dick in a death grip that brings him to his knees while simultaneously nut punching Tito. Damn, that's talent there.

She's off running again. Across the hills and fields she goes to the Santini compound. Collapses just shy of it.

Each branch of role call looks a lot like...

description

Chapter Three

Back to Ricardo and Valentino ... Only this time it's Ricardo's POV. Three POVs in three chapters with all this role call shit? Dear Kindle Bears, please help me!

Ricardo empathizes with ol' Valentino because he too lost a "her" being murdered by Pedro Landi. Only two women had ever held his interest - Ghita and Bianca - one love was dead and one love walked away from him.

Refocusing...

Val - take my kids and protect em?

Ricardo - mommy will make their lives hell, but sure. Where are they?

In hiding with Spinelli, a family connected to the Donatelli, the bastard responsible for the war. The Spinelli are protectors, though, and have deceived the Donatelli for years to protect innocent peeps.

Ricardo - All's good. Bye.

Uhoh, a Pedro Landi convoy pulls up, and that's the fat fuck that killed his woman.

Head soldier, Nero, keeps Ricardo from reacting. You see... he can't kill the fucker because the club is a place of business, not war.

Boom. Bomb. Valentino's Lamborghini explodes. Dead Val. Dead Niko.

Family meeting time.

And the fucking role call goes into OVERDRIVE!!!

description

Salvatore, yet another brother to Ricardo, is the gentle giant. His wife is Rosa, and they're soul mates.

Four brothers were absent from the meeting, one of whom was visiting the Vatican because he's a priest.

Meet Brando. He's the third oldest. He's annoyed at his required attendance because his soul is an endless pit of hate. And he's the only one with black hair & golden eyes, which made him look more like a beautiful D'Angelo, specifically Jagger - a cousin.

Twenty-nine-year-old twins, Vinnie and Dominic, are the smart-mouthed, tat'ed up, pierced, scruffy musicians of the group.

Anna, Ricardo's sister, and her hubby; Bella, a wheelchair bound sister; and Luciano, another brother.... Well, they must not be of import as they only get a single sentence of .. Hey they're there.

Fighting ensues over if they'll avenge Val, who's the black sheep. More fighting over who will lead because their dad is not longer capable of being Don because of a mysterious illness.

Uhm....

Vote. All yeah, but Brando.

Brando and Ricardo have a passing match, complete with the mommy card being dropped a dozen times.

So, now Ricardo is Don but mom's gonna be mad as fuck and need to be avoided because apparently she's so vile that she'd fuck her own children up over this Don situation.

They fight over how to take out all these other fuckers - blowing shit up, spies, assassins, in their homes and beds, etc.

Sergio, the glossed over husband of Anna, injects that he lost a sister and brother in law and therefore supports killing the f'rs in their beds.

Oops.. Back to Val's daughters that Ricardo still has to go get.

Nope.. Not so fast because a soldier just walked in holding his run away ex lover, Bianca D'Angelo.

Chapter Four

"Without another word, he strode across the room carrying Bianca up the staircase. He stopped outside his bedroom door, realizing he couldn't take her in there. There was proper etiquette, her integrity also needed protection. He moved to the neighboring door, his previous lover's room. Strangely, Ricardo felt no grief over Ghita's death - only fury, which he didn't understand. She may have only been his lover for a short time but he'd known her a lifetime, so he should've felt something other than anger.

Wait just a fucking minute didn't he say this earlier of Ghita...

"He couldn't stand weak people, which was why he'd loved Ghita. She'd been a strong woman, who'd never allowed him to railroad her like all the other women he'd been with. Only two women had ever held his attention, Ghita and Bianca."

So, now Bianca's in his arms, his old lover was meaningless, huh?

The above is just from the f'ing sample. I feel like I need a flow chart, pie graph, police family tree board of who's who to even begin to keep up with how all over the place this shit is. There's a thing called too much, and this is it.

I might be willing to overlook it all if the romance had hope, but with a dead husband, a dead lover, and a runaway lover, even the romance is a dead fish waiting to...

** 3,5 STARS **

Now we all know I simply CAN NOT say no to a book with Mafia families. So when I saw this one, I knew I had to get my hands on it ASAP!

And I really enjoyed it, I did. There were certain problems with it, though...

First off, I had a VERY difficult time getting into the story from the beginning. I got overwhelmed with over 30 characters introduced, from 5 different Mafia families, and really struggled trying to keep their names and back stories in mind. Apparently, some of the characters are familiar to people who have read My Masters' Nightmare Season 1, Ep. 1 "Taken" series, but this is the first book I've read by Marita A. Hansen, so I kept forgetting who is who and got all "WHO THE HELL WAS THAT?!" constantly.

Secondly, I have to admit that the action was intense and fast-paced, but the romance side of the book fell a bit short. There was always a lot going on, leaving no time for romance, AT ALL. I'm a romance reader, so this bothered me.

Lastly, having lots of characters ended up pushing the main characters Rıcardo and Bianca on the back. The rebellious brother Brando was more impressive than Ricardo, in his own book ! The male lead shouldn't be outshined by a supporting character. Ever. And don't even get me started on Bianca, she was even more invisible than Ricardo! Even though Ricardo and Bianca are the main couple, it honestly didn't feel that way!

Ricardo Santini started off as a VERY interesting character. He has extreme anger issues and has been diagnosed with a condition called "Intermittent Explosive Disorder" and due to an experimental drug he has taken for his condition 8 years ago, he has lost feeling in most of his body. He is a bad-ass Mafia boss, Don of the Santini Family. He is brutal, cold and ruthless.

You see, he was perfect at first... But after some point, I started to feel unimpressed by him. Maybe it was the lack of romance, or maybe the fact that some of his brothers were more interesting than him, but I was certainly disappointed with Ricardo as a character.

It was the same way with Bianca. She is the kind of woman that has left her first and only true love, Ricardo, due to his uncontrollable rage. She is the kind of woman that has poisoned her own husband when he hit and hurt her. She is shown as a strong and independent woman... But then she does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING throughout the whole book! My God, she was SO LAME!

Now let's talk about the other Santini brothers!

Brando...

The best character in the book! He stole the show in every scene he came in! Can't wait to read about his story in Brando!

Vinnie and Dominic...

So cool and hilarious! These two kept making me smile with their wicked humor!

Salvatore...

Just...why, God, why?!

Valentino...

I'd like to see more of the other siblings in the next books, they all look very interesting :)

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'd like to go calculate how many more days I've got to wait for Brando and his wicked ways!

Publication Date – August 14, 2014
Type – No Cliffhanger Series
Genre – Romance, Dark, Mafia
Rating – 4 out of 5 Stars

Instead of giving the story away - I decided to document my feelings on this book. Especially since you all know that I have a special place in my heart for Marita and her books.  Again she amazes me with her ability to write about action, the mafia and dark subjects.

At first I was like ....

And then when Bianca came into the picture it was like....

But then Ivy and Ricardo's mom had to show up

And then we read what Ivy does next....

Ohhhh....that just takes the cake and I so want Bianca to be like...

but with all the posturing and the fighting....do you think this will end with a

Definitely the beginning of a wonderful series off-shooting from My Masters' Nightmare.  I see this series just getting better and better and can't wait to see what happens in Brando!!

I’ve read the My Master’s Nightmare series and have enjoyed it greatly. When I got word that there was going to be a spin-off of sorts I was thrilled. I had the pleasure of beta reading this and it had many high points then… the way we are introduced to Ricardo… the two major twists that take place… the hot sex! But reading the final product was exactly how it should be wonderous perfection. We get an up close and personal look at the Santini family and Ricardo in general. He is a beastly man with one heck of a blinded by rage temper. Bianca was not my favorite character in MMN but she really grew on me in Ricardo. There are quite a few characters and families to keep straight but if you’ve read MMN it should not be that hard and if you haven’t then it should not be too difficult to adjust.

The black vipers were crazy badass and awesome… and I swear that I’m not just saying that because one of them is named after me… I love all of Ricardo’s brothers especially Vinnie, and his twin brother. ;) Brando also stole a piece of my heart in this story and I cannot wait for his book to come out next. You will despise and love Ivy all at one time and want to back hand Concetta, the matriarch. I also can’t wait to hear about the twins band. This book really has a little bit of everything. Your cool ass mafia action, tattooed and pierced rockstars, sweet couples in love, hot sex, action, violence, and badass female characters. I highly recommend it!

I've had my eye on this book for awhile and was beyond excited to win an arc!! Alpha males are my weakness and if you add the element of mafia it's so much better! I freaking love Mafia books and there's not alot to pick from out there. My reviews tend to be spoiler free because there's nothing more upsetting than to be anticipating a book and someone else blowing the plot!!
This book had a lot going on.... mafia families, yes families... There's alpha males galore, The Santini family has a bunch of different males., aging Don, twin rockers, hitmen, the Padre, the porn star, the bastard, the "business" men and the heir, Ricardo. While this is Ricardo's book we get to know quite a bit of other characters.
As characters are introduced we meet the MOTHER, omg, no wonder that family is so messed up. Warning not all is what it seems in the family, the aging Don's mysterious illness, the rivalry between brothers and Ricardo ' s condition. .. hmmmmm. Add to all that death's, secrets, maids jumping almost unconscious males... soooo good;)
There's definitely something fishy in that family and to add to the whole mix we have Bianca, Ricardo's former love interest who is not that former! Theres alot going on with that. I love that Bianca is a strong heroine, that does stand up to Ricardo.
So.... did I add that there's spies that aren't but are? This book is such an adventure, it has it all... romance, violence, drama and ALPHAS MALES! I cannot wait for the next book, my heart literally stopped in some parts and had to stop, walk away. Some characters made me want to hit them with my tablet.
I recommend this book to everyone, I enjoyed it so much I read it in one sitting. Hoping to read more from this author!

Oh,HELL NOOOO!!!!! you can't leave me hanging like this with such a killer cliffhanger...UGH!

What a hell of a roller coaster!!
That book was worth the wait, I loved everything about it...the intensity, violence, killing with a cold blood, rough crazy sex,revenge..everything everything!!!
*sigh* I need to take my breath...

I don't know what to say about the characters because I loved all of them...that house was like a house of sexy hot demons, everyone has his own special taste.....Ricardo with his raging passion and intensity, Salvador with his love and wisdom, the sexy hilarious twin....and the crazy fucked up Brando (I'm dying to read his story) ,the black vibers....all of the characters are amazing and unique in their own way!

I was hocked up from the first page, It was so intense and fast paced I couldn't put it down!

Loved it...enjoyed reading it a lot and can't wait for brando's story, need it like yesterday! :DD

What a ride!
It was fast paced, nail biting and sexy as h#ll!
I loved the intricate family plots, the several mafia families and the heart-ache.
Ms Hansen WHY???? Why did you have to hurt the gentle giant so much? I mean come on, he was the only nice guy in the book... I can never forgive you..
My only complain is this: since it's not a conventional love story with the couple in the front but a complex world, the name of the book is misleading. It doesn't focus on Ricardo (whose story I felt was in the background) so it should be named something else. Still, I loved the book, even when I got so confused about the families and the alliances I wanted to throw my kindle away.

This was awesome read!
I have finished it in one sitting.
I love my book boyfriends possessive and when they are "mafioso" too,I think I have a winner!
This book is bursting with mafia action, hot Santtini brothers and in the end I give this book a solid big 4 stars..
I was missing some kind of deeper relationship between h/H,and there was lack of information about their whole past and I was really missing that part.
All in all good read!

Did I love it? No
Did I think it was amazing? No
But could I stop reading? No!
It's a solid 3.5 stars, cliffys and so much more information needed.. I won't even try to explain, it's addictive for sure. The next book doesn't even help though so... probably too cliffy for me.
I doubt I will continue as all the relationships are left halfway and the that's not my jam - or many others I would imagine since everything is unresolved.

I won an ARC ( thank you Vika, Kris, and Marita) for this book and let me just say, I was so giddy to have won an ARC for this book! This is the first book in Ms. Hansen's spin off series, and wow what a way to get the ball rolling girl!! This is the story of Ricardo (mmmm) the eldest brother of the Santini Family. He is a very moody bastardo 95% of the time, and his mood swings are enough to give you whiplash! You never know if you are coming (snickers) or going with him. He took an experimental drug 8 years ago in order to control his volatile temper, however the drug only made things worst and caused him to lose 90% feeling in his body. Fast forward 8 years later and he is still trying different drugs to manage his anger. Even with 90% feeling gone he still maintains two of his senses, taste and smell. A good thing too, because could you imagine not being able to smell the wonderfully strong aroma of coffee, or taste the creamy sweetness of tiramisu as it melts on your tongue, along with no being able to feel your naughty bits or the sensation of sex?!? Kill me now, please and thank you! Anywho, I digress. The Santini families are a complex web of emotions, sadness, deviousness, and lies. Throw in some laughs, warm hugs, and its' your annual Thanksgiving Day dinner. However, what’s annual in our lives is daily chaos in the Santini household. This story had it all, love, sex, power, lies, and bitch of a mother, oh and some rock and roll for some extra flare. The last 10% of the book I was holding my breath, shouting for them to "get down! Hide!!" there may of even been a " oh you stupid little girl" thrown in there, I dunno, it’s all a blur of ugly faced crying. I can’t wait to see what the rest of this series brings. Moral of this review? Make a pot of coffee, grab a slice of tiramisu, and get your little nubs on this book! Ohhh Ricardo....your bathwater is ready.

Italian mafia, fiery women, and plots of revenge combine for an action-packed storyline in Ricardo.

Ricardo is the oldest of the Santini brothers and since his father is no longer able to lead a mafia war, he takes his rightful place as head of the family and vows to protect his family at all costs. When his ex comes back into his life needing refuge, he’s torn on how to protect her without exposing his biggest weakness.

Bianca left Ricardo years ago when she saw his awful temper, but her recently deceased husband was far more violent and cruel. When she makes herself a target by accidentally poisoning the wrong man, she’s forced to seek refuge with the man she never forgot, Ricardo. But years have been hard on Ricardo and his temper has only grown worse as he now battles a rage disorder that has left him without his sense of touch after his efforts to aid his disorder with an experimental drug failed.

Bianca isn’t the only one with feelings for Ricardo either, as Ivy, a Black Viper undercover as Ricardo’s maid, does everything in her power to get into his home and then into his bed. Can Ricardo risk exposing his weakness by pursuing his feelings for Bianca? Or is he right that she deserves better and he should be with someone more like the Black Viper desperate to bed him? Will any of it matter if the Landi succeed in their vendetta mission?

The first chapter of Ricardo had me wondering if I’d fallen for a strong synopsis that hid a weak storyline. But before I knew it the characters had me captivated and I was caught up in the love stories, the sexy love scenes, and the action-filled plot. I even found myself rooting for the Black Vipers when the story was given from their perspective. I couldn’t find a single unredeemable character; except maybe the Concetta (Ricardo’s mom), and I bet even she has her reasons if I were to hear the story from her perspective. The story alternated perspectives between Ricardo, Bianca, and Ivy and the switch was seamless. I blew through the story and found myself hoping the other Santini brothers will have a story of their own. I’m shocked to find I’m most intrigued by Brando, the most unlovable of the bunch. He seems like there’s a lot hidden behind his cold eyes and I’m desperate to unravel his story.

Marita A. Hansen combines fully dimensional characters with an exciting plot for a fantastic result in Ricardo. I only hope the remaining Santini brothers are as irresistible as their oldest brother, Ricardo.

Okay. Well the beginning was confusing and that is probably what made reading the novel less enjoyable. I was anticipating this one to be epic and adding to my long list of amazing series. However, after reading this one? I'm unsure .. I'm hoping the next book could redeem this one. Don't get me wrong when I say this book had potential and could have been marvelous. The plot was exciting and had me intrigued. Ricardo was hot .. everything about that man .. DAYUM! The way that Bianca stayed with the Santini's was strange or rushed? Not sure why but I feel like it could have been slower and more involvement from Ricardo. Maybe if the novel was longer than more depth could have been gradually added rather than having the information shoved down your throat in the FIRST FEW CHAPTERS. I'm usually quite good with following along but it was way TOO much way TOO fast! Nevertheless, it was well written and I found it an average read from the first book I read from the author.

As for the next book ...

FIVE INCREDIBLE STARS

What an incredible book to start the Santini brother series. This novel isn't just about romance; no, this novel contains five Italian Mafia families who all happen to be at war with the main protagonists being the Santini family. In fact, there are actually nine of the bad boys who are all brothers, all alpha males and dangerous. Each one of them has his own part to play in the family feud. However, there is an even bigger war going on in the Santini household that may tear the family apart.

Let me introduce you to Ricardo. The story starts with one of the brothers asking Ricardo for help as he fears danger may lie ahead for his family. Ricardo is tall, muscular and tattooed and is feared by everyone as he is the oldest of the brothers and next in line to become the Don, a mob boss. The father is no longer capable, so the family all take a vote on an important issue. Momma Santini is someone to be reckoned with, too! And Brando has no morals and is pure evil; the fourth brother wants the title of Don, so disputes begin within the house. Meanwhile, Ricardo is the one who is spiralling down a dark path due to events which have had a deep influence on his life. At the same time, he is trying to protect his loved ones and do the right thing. Following a heated meeting with his siblings in which Ricardo tells everyone what he expects from them, an unexpected event occurs which takes him back in time and cause his emotions to rise to the surface.

Bianca D'Angelo is feeling the heat because of something dreadful that happened in her past and feels that her only option is to run. She’s in dire danger, and she fears that there may be serious consequences from enemies. Unexpectedly, she is recognised which puts her into further peril, and she desperately seeks shelter from someone she believes she can trust. Will she find the protection she needs? Perhaps things won’t be as she had anticipated. Will her life be on a knife’s edge for long?

I really loved this story. It has everything you would expect in a Mafia novel from hot Mafia men. There was even a twist to the story which I never saw coming, so I'm going say congratulations to the author for this sublimely written action-packed book. And I look forward to reading the follow-up. Can't wait to read Brando’s story. I award this novel FIVE INCREDIBLE STARS and you have gained yourself a fan. Thank you!

Reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock
Rating 4 fangs

Ricardo is book one in the Santini series. Before reading Ricardo I recommend that you start with the authors other series titled My Masters’ Nightmare. When I started reading Ricardo I thought I was mistaken that it was the first book in the series. From the start of the book multiple characters were mentioned that I felt I should already know more about. After some research of the author’s other books, I found that this is a parallel series.

Without knowing the background of the characters – the members of the five mafia families – it took me quite a while to develop a feel for the book. The story is a continuation of the war amongst the five families. We are given snippets throughout the book of why they are warring, but personally I like a more in depth background, which could only be obtained by reading the previous series.

The book contains foul language, sex scenes and violence by just about all of the characters. But to balance out the harsh world of the mafia, there is also the unconditional love between siblings and parents and couples who are living the dream with their soul mates.

The hero of the story Ricardo Santini takes over the role of Don from his father. He is a deeply troubled soul with Intermittent Explosive Disorder. He is prone to bouts of violence, but never against women. He was brought up with the admirable quality of respecting women and this is demonstrated throughout the book.

Bianca D’Angelo our heroine has suffered at the hands of men throughout her single and married life. After all she has been through and continues to go through, she is still a tough and resilient woman.

Ricardo and Bianca have a history together and have never forgotten their connection. The book sees them reconnecting and sorting through their chance at being together again.

I was originally going to give this book a 3 fang rating, but holy smokes I was blown away by the last few chapters. I was drawn into the story and didn’t want it to end. I felt that I knew the characters finally and couldn’t wait to continue with their stories. There was no cliffhanger, however room was left for series to continue.

I look forward to reading more about the five families.

Ricardo Santini is the eldest of his brothers, and the heir for the title Don, mob boss aka the head of a crime family. The war has broken out against the Landi family. Everyone’s loved ones are targeted either due to their name or who the opposing family thinks the enemy is or who they are related to. His fiancé was murdered, which led his violent temper to become fiercer. Will his rage be the undoing of his family?

Can you imagine not being able to feel and/or not being able to control your temper/rage? This is exactly what Ricardo experiences every day. Tasks as simple as shaving, taking a shower, cannot be completed due to risk of being hurt.

Does not being able to feel physically hinder you from loving someone completely?

Even though it’s been over 10 years since Bianca and Ricardo have been together, will he still feel as strongly for her as he did back then?

Can the Santinis trust the Viper Sisterhood?

Secrets, lies, and the TRUTH will come out in this story told by Ricardo. But who will suffer the consequences? What deaths will come from it, what lives will be spared?

I gave this book 4 stars. At first, I was having a hard time trying to figure out all the background information and who went with whom, and how everyone was connected. It took a little while. Also after I learned some of the Italian lingo that helped me understand as well. Ricardo is a strong man who exudes power, masculinity. He is terrifying, yet stunning. Was he truly labeled as a killer because his heart was so cold he would rather kill than bed a woman? Read this book and find out…

I cannot wait for Book #2 re: Brando and what his decisions will be for his future now knowing about his past. - See more at: http://kumikoleilostinabook.blogspot....
