Secrets must be kept. As the only surviving member of the powerful Cross family and a scandalous term at a top flight prep school, Rachel Cross has been a tabloid darling. But all is not what it seems with the ‘party girl heiress’.
Secrets can be dangerous. She leads two lives: one in light, as a college freshman adjusting to the demands of higher education; the other in darkness as a Guardian, a warrior in an ancient sisterhood of vampire hunters. Trained to hunt and Terminate vampires who prey on the Innocent, Rachel is as dangerous as the things she kills.
Secrets can be deadly. Faced with a growing threat from a rival group of vampire hunters called the Slayers and a mysterious drug turning rave goers into raging monsters, Rachel and the Guardianship have their hands full. When a new love comes into her life and her two realities threaten to collide, Rachel must step up and fulfill an ancient prophecy if she is to survive.
J.L. Gaynor is a proud native of New Jersey. She has been writing since grade school and whiles away the daylight hours as a desk jockey. A self-professed nerd, she is a fan of video games, graphic novels and bad horror movies. “Drive” is her first foray into publishing and there will be more to come.
If you want a book that will keep you on your toes, here it is. JL Gaynor knows how to weave a story. She places just the right amount of intrigue in the perfect places to keep the pages turning. I cared for these characters. She built them into real people with real problems that begged for righteous solutions. She is a master at setting up descriptive scenes. I felt like I had crawled into this world of dark and scary things, often holding my breath and wanting to peek through the slits of my fingers to read (much like I watch a horror movie!). If you enjoy that scary, nail-biting type of story, this is one I'd recommend. The writing is superb, polished up to shine.
I really enjoyed this book. It was extremely well written. The storyline shows exactly what a great imagination the author has. All the characters were well developed. Overall this book was exactly what I like - a great story, with great characters, lots of action, some good love'n, a nice tidy ending, with a open segway into hopefully an equally excellent sequel. I'm looking forward to the next book.
Rachel Cross is one impressive woman. I'm a sucker for prophesies and forbidden love. Ascension has both on steroids. I look forward to reading the next in the series.
