Leading Spiritual Hoarders: Creating a Culture of Disciples Who Make Disciples

Rate this book
For over 20 years, Pastors Sara and Dan Dangerfield have seen the power of one-on-one discipleship transform lives. In the church they lead, they've watched what happens when believers do more than simply check the 'Christian' box-they take seriously the call to make disciples who make disciples.

This book is an invitation to pastors and church leaders to reimagine what discipleship looks like in their churches. Through biblical truth and personal experience, Sara encourages leaders to assess the heart of their church, discover where discipleship produces the most fruit, and lead by example. While shifting church culture takes time and intentionality, it's worth the effort-because when discipleship becomes the foundation, multiplication follows, and God's kingdom grows.

Are you ready to see a culture of discipleship take root in your church? It starts with one.

This book is an absolute necessity for all pastors. If you are struggling to figure out how to disciple your church well, Sara will give you some valuable guidance and encouragement. Today more than ever before we need disciples, not just fans of Jesus. I had the honor of being on the launch team for this book and I simply couldn’t put the book down. We will be using this book with all of our teams at my church from now on. Read it, you won’t be disappointed!

"Humility begins with a genuine response of gratitude. We share from our pulpits all the time about the saving Grace of Jesus Christ, but when was the last time we sat in silence as we processed all Jesus really did?"

The way the author intertwines her stories with biblical truths makes it a very engaging read. There’s a distinct call that discipleship is not just meant to be within the four walls of the church. The author paints a picture of being active both in and outside the church walls. She does an excellent job giving Christ followers a call to action and practical steps to move forward.

Great book
The author’s personal stories intertwined with Biblical truths encourages and convicts the reader as we look at our roles in discipleship as believers. As a leader it provoked thoughts on how I can improve in this area of my life and therefore lead others in doing the same. Thankful I picked up and copy and I’ll be sharing it with friends.

As someone who isn’t a pastor or church staff member but is deeply invested in the life of the local church, I found "Leading Spiritual Hoarders" to be both eye-opening and incredibly hopeful. Sarah writes with gentle authority, drawing from biblical truths and her own experiences to challenge the way we often approach discipleship in our churches. She doesn’t point fingers; instead, she offers a compelling invitation to nurture spiritual growth.

Even without a leadership role, I came away inspired to live more intentionally as a disciple. Sarah’s vulnerability and her real-life examples of her own challenges in discipleship made her message feel authentic. This book is not just for pastors; it speaks to the entire Body of Christ. Changing church culture is no small task, but Sarah reminds us that it’s worth every effort when lives are transformed and disciples are making more disciples.

If you’re a leader—or simply someone who loves the Church—"Leading Spiritual Hoarders" is a must-read. It serves as a timely reminder to refocus and recognize the power of walking closely with Jesus and leading others to do the same in our everyday lives.

Inspirational! Easy to read, such good stories throughout the book! Definitely will become a yearly read. It’s something so important that we forget as Christians that we are all leaders and we should not hoard our knowledge of the good news. And as someone who attended Sara’s church before and after, I can tell you it is not the same church. In fact I was never coming back to this church BUT I found myself being tugged by the Holy Spirit and I found my way back. It is not the same church and I find myself now stepping out discipling. This book is something everyone should read, too often we find ourselves checking the box of Christian but forgetting what Jesus has called us to do, there’s more to checking that box and attending church on Sunday!

If you are someone who is a Christian then this book is for you. Sara writes from a pastoral perspective of bringing the word outside of the church, and making sure we are modeling Jesus wherever we are. As a Counselor and as a Christian I was intrigued by this book because of the title. If you're a pastor this book is a must read, if you're a Christian this book is a must read! Let us becoming doers of the word, and not just speakers. Let us not be Spiritual Hoarders and instead let us share the greatest gift we have! I highly recommend this book and am grateful for the way she made this applicable to daily living.

You won't be the same after reading this book!

Written with encouraging stories centered around a challenge to the reader to live a life of intention, this book highlighted people in my own sphere of influence I can choose to become more intentional in sharing the gospel. The life of intentional sharing is an exciting one for any believer, and yet fears, pride, busyness, distractions, etc. can cloud the one assignment we are all called to regardless of vocation or background. I am not the same after reading this book!

This is such a great book! I love how Sara backs up what she’s saying with scriptural anecdotes, AND quotes and provides the references where she is pulling from the Bible. She does a great job of sharing personal stories and tying it into who to help create a culture of discipleship within ministry. My favorite part is the reflection questions at the end of each chapter. Those were the only thing slowing be down on reading as I wanted to be intentional with thinking and praying through those questions.

What an inspiring, motivational read! I finally was able to dig in and finish in two days on a trip away from home. I love the stories Sara shares and the spiritual lessons from them. They are very thought provoking and she is such a spiritual cheerleader for us! I am so much more ready to stop spiritual hoarding and step into more spiritual sharing! I can’t wait to get home and start my new small group!

The authors fervor for discipleship is unmistakeable. She reminds us of how easy it is to be comfortable where we are and with what we know and challenges us to get out of our comfort zones and really be aware of with who and where God has placed us. After reading this book the word that is blazed on my heart is IGNITE. The author clearly has lit a fire in me to be uncomfortable. To invite. To go. To build relationships. To listen. To share. This fire is meant to spread!
