"Kremlin Tide" by Cortez Law III
What I liked from this novel.....
This author really knows how the 'criminal mind' works having read this story that will show all of that in this captivating read but also in this story there will be some forgiveness too. I will say when I first read 'Kremlin Tide' was about I wondered would I really like this type of read which was a deep mystery however, after getting into the read it was not bad at all. I liked how this author helped the reader flow into each chapter presenting at the beginning of a new chapter he let us know just where we were in the read because this novel moves, moves and moves a lot in the read bringing so many twist and turns that you will have to keep up with it that is going on. From the start of the read... from the "911 call murder reports a murder at the church...till the end the reader will be found turning the pages till the end.
For this Sergeant Malcolm Hobbs and his Detectives, the X-Men Homicide Unit really had their hands full in this read. This story will keep your interest as you reads about a Russian Mafia group of bad people who were serial killers on the loose there in Atlanta, Georgia. Will Sergeant Hobbs and his team be able to bring down this terrorism down and then afterwards what then? What had happened and was going on with these Russian immigrates that they felt the need of doing what that did? Now, this is where I say you will have to pick up "Kremlin Tide" and read it for yourself to see how this author gives the reader this well written story. It was quite interesting how these good people: Malcolm, Pepper, Svetlana, Shepherd, Orlando, Selena, Hobbs, Allen, Agents Pratt, Thompkin and I am sure I have left out a few who were able to get this bad element of people down...finally getting their hands on ....... I will say that all of these characters were simply off the chart good, well developed, defined, characterized, real and oh so believable. I found it quite interesting at the end of the read what happened to those two criminals. It really makes one wonder is this what happens to some of the crooks that are put away in our prisons? The christian references that were brought into this read was really special in how this author was able to put this into this story and it being done so well. As you read you can get the feel of what had happened to each one who had this experience with God especially for Malcolm and Pepper.
What I especially liked about this novel...
At the end of this novel when Malcolm Hobbs was able to ask for forgiveness, rededicating his life and be welcome back into the church was truly a wonderfully written part that I truly enjoyed from this novel. Now, once again to understand this and so much more you will have to pick up this read and see for yourself. For me that really made the ending wonderful and to understanding a little more of what all had gone one in Malcolm's life. With saying that would I recommend 'Kremlin Tide?' YES!
'Kremlin Tide' is a suspenseful drama that will test the tenants of faith and redemption of all in its path. With a loose suspected serial killer, a determined group of men heralded as 'the X men' this story rounds out with a witness with suspicious connections toppled with to many coincidences. This becomes an unprecedented race to see who will come out unscathed when it is all said and done. Though I've never really been a fan of mystery and suspense or even the grittiness of the street, I was pleasantly surprised how easily I became caught up in this tale. Great job Mr. Law.

After reading the synopsis for this book, it had an interesting premise and I looked forward to reading this book.
However, when I started reading this book, I found that I had serious difficulty getting into the book because every time the novel was from the viewpoint of the Russian Mafya or the Islamic terrorists, the author appeared to go out of his way to speak in "pidgin" English, which I found took me out of this book.
Another issue that I had with the novel was how it is written as I found it to be distracting and even irritating as it was too wordy. I love details, but this story is so saturated with them that it impeded the flow of the story and my progression as the reader. My regret is that I found it difficult to finish this book.
That said if the reader were to read this novel with a less critical eye, then this is a half-decent novel with the potential to be so much more. I would give this book a solid three stars out of a potential five.
As with all my literary ramblings, this is just my five cents worth.
An interesting page turner harping back to crime TV shows, this book is a great addition to anyone who enjoys suspense/thriller novels.
The Good -As like the first book I read from this author, Kremlin Tide has fascinating characters. -While the other book, Serial Rites, focuses more on one character, this book gets into the minds of all the characters. -Great writing and good pacing especially as the book nears the end. -Intriguing, complex plot
The Bad -Too much detail bogs down the story especially early in the book.
The Unsure* -With the nature of this being a complex story, the details can easily be overlooked. The story, therefore, can become quite confusing. *My opinion: what I didn’t care for or do not prefer. This will not lower a rating unless it overly distracts from the story.
A criminal thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat! Absolutely fascinating with the multiple characters and the depth we are able to get to know each one.
At times there is so much detail that I found myself being bogged down - however, I understand the reason for and need for such detail. When an author is writing a novel that involves many characters and is trying to show the mind of each such detail is important.
My heart hurt for the Detective. Haven't we all lost our way or will at some point in time?
Once I got into the triple groups of villains, this pursuit of terrorists (mafia-type), did not disappoint. I hooked myself in for the ride. Glad I did as this plot can be confusing, and in some way, threatening for citizens trying to live a normal life in this day and age. The work to catch up with such an organized attempt at destroying a huge swath of citizenry is disconcerting to say the least. The characters became real and believable with each passing page. The pass at the end was the culmination of activity through collaboration between agencies. Masterful in its believability throughout.
If you enjoy criminal minds or CSI this is the book for you! A solid story of suspense and intrigue. I recieved a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
An Enthralling Story Full of Interesting Characters
“Kremlin Tide: X-Men Case File #2” by Cortez Law III is an enthralling story chocked full of interesting characters. However, the way in which it is written is distracting and even irritating as it was too wordy. I am one who loves details, but this story is so saturated with them that it impeded the flow of the story and my progression as the reader.
Having stated my views on the writing, let’s get to the story itself. “Kremlin Tide: X-Men Case File #2” is a story based on beliefs, thus ways of life. Some beliefs lead us to do good and some to do bad. Well, we journey through the lives of four sets of people where they do what they believe, and in some cases, what they believe they are supposed to believe in. The four groups consist of: law enforcement, the "made men," Jihad, and Russians, with the latter two having hatred for America.
Russian women travel to Atlanta to forge a new life. They settled, they married, and conformed to American ways with following God at the top for some. At their chosen place of worship is where the story commences and it’s with the abduction and subsequence butchering of one of the ladies. Soon, other people are found in similar ways. In comes Atlanta Homicide Sergeant Malcolm Hobbs and his detectives. This group is known as The X-Men and they are investigating these murders. The X-Men do the investigating and uncover connections that lead them to the Russian immigrates and to looking into the lives and dealings of some of their spouses, the “made men.” All this is occurring as some of them strive to pull their lives back together and others to maintain theirs rooted in their belief and faith in God.
As they further dig, paste, and pull things together, they come upon connections of the different groupings and a plan to cause major mayhem, catastrophic death, and damage to Atlanta. We get to witness the process, travel the journey and see if major saves can be done.
I give this good novel, with huge potential to be great, 3 stars. I am looking forward to seeing what his next novel brings.
