Lineage

Rate this book
This is the story of Connor Murray, a young hooligan from England who finds out that he is a direct descendant of the Legendary King Arthur. He is taken to a school where other lineal descendants of the Court of Camelot gather to be taught by the progeny of Merlin. Lineage brings the names of the Knights of the Round Table from the dust of the old tales and gives them new life. Most importantly, it brings back the ideals of Arthur’s Camelot: that might is not right and mercy is not weakness.

I was so excited to hear this story was being published in book form as it was difficult for me to read as a serial online. I enjoyed reading Lineage and its unique take on the King Arthur's tale. It had a little of everything- romance, cool weaponry, fighting, magic and a bit of British vernacular (which I love). Knowing more about magic, weapons and the story of King Arthur would have helped as I read because I was a bit confused with some of the magic terms, weapons and characters. I'm glad there is a sequel coming and look forward to learning more about the characters. Lineage is a fantastic fantasy novel and I would definitely recommend it to others. If you like fantasy, magic and the story of King Arthur- Read This Book!

I started to read this before it was officially "published". At the time, the delivery method made it hard to read but now that it has arrived in a proper book form (and e-book), I found the time to read it. I am a little disappointed I did not finish it earlier! A very intriguing story built around a modern day Arthurian tale, it manages to keep the magical elements finely interwoven with today's language and culture. A joy to read and a story with more yet to come, I highly recommend it. Be forewarned though, Connor's world is not for young children and it can suck you in...

I am a BIG fan of magic. This book is a story based on a modern-day descendant of King Arthur. I also enjoyed the action and the characters. This book kept me interested the whole way through. I would read the next book. *I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

For those familiar with my own titles, I am a huge fan of Arthurian Legend, fae, Avalon, the whole package, and this book delivers a fantastic modern fantasy landscape with all of those elements, but in a new and interesting way. Connor is not your average 'hero' but a refreshing smart-mouthed bad boy who grows throughout the story as he faces peril and the grandness of his own destiny. If you love action, humor, and Arthurian lore, you'll adore this tale, which I'm excited is only the beginning of a larger story to come. Filled to the brim with fun and interesting characters, it's a ride into myths and magic you shouldn't miss.

This book is great, especially if you are a fan of Arthurian legend. Even for someone like me, who is only marginally aware of King Arthur and Merlin, it was quite enjoyable. I loved the updated setting for an Arthurian tale - the action and magic were both very well-written. Sometimes the pacing was a little off, but it can be forgiven in light of the world-building done by Thompson. I think it's a wonderful start to a series, and I can't wait to read book 2.

The concept of the descendants of the great Knights of the Round Table battling the foes of myth in present day provides an interesting twist. Lineage was a fun, fast read, even at almost 400 pages. The feel of Lineage is along the same style of other recent works of descendants of mythological beings. Unlike the others stories I have read, Lineage feels much more set in the present with the use of technology.

I recommend Lineage for readers who have an interest in the Arthurian tales. The complexity of the original characters and their interactions are touched on here to give a strong basis for the interactions of the characters. The intertwining of the myth in the present setting is well done.
