The Parenting Raise Responsible, Resilient Kids Without Nagging, Yelling, or Bribing! What If One Shift in Your Parenting Could Change Your Child’s Future Forever?Myth #1: “Good Parents Have It All Figured Out”
No parent has all the answers! Raising responsible kids isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being intentional, learning as you go, and leading by example.

Myth #2: “You Should Be a Parent, Not a Friend”
Kids don’t just need a rule enforcer—they need a mentor who listens, guides, and walks alongside them. The best parents are both a loving authority and a trusted friend.

Myth #3: “It’s Too Late to Change My Parenting Approach”
Whether your child is a toddler or a teen, it’s never too late to shift your parenting, strengthen your relationship, and help them grow into a responsible, capable adult.

Myth #4: “If My Kids Aren’t Listening, I Just Need to Be Stricter”
More rules don’t always lead to more respect. The key is teaching kids why responsibility and character matter—not just demanding compliance.

Myth #5: “If I Raise My Kids in a Christian Home, They’ll Naturally Make Good Choices”
Faith is the foundation, but kids still need intentional guidance, mentorship, and real-life application of biblical principles. Teaching them how to live out their faith daily is just as important as instilling values.

Becoming Intentional at Parenting addresses these 6 things (and more):

What If It’s Not Working? – How to move from reactive parenting to intentional mentorship & reset your approach at any stage.Raising Future Adults – How to teach responsibility so your child thrives beyond your home. The Communication Code – How to talk so your kids actually listen—and listen so they actually talk. The Heart of a Mentor – How to parent with wisdom, grace, and long-term vision.Faith & Family – Teaching biblical values in a way that sticks (without forcing them). The Friendship Factor – How to build a deep, lifelong relationship with your child—without losing authority. If you’ve ever felt like you’ve tried everything, don’t have time for another parenting book, or think it’s too late to make a change—this book is for you. Becoming Intentional at Parenting: The Heart of a Mentoring Parent for Successfully Raising Kids, by Dwaine Cales and John Blankenship, is a heartfelt and practical guide for parents seeking to play an active and influential role in their children’s lives. At its core, the book emphasizes the importance of intentional parenting and mentorship. The authors emphasize being proactive, planning spiritual, emotional, and relational moments, rather than simply reacting to issues as they arise. This framework invites parents to mentor with purpose and clarity. As a busy parent, I appreciated the focus on concrete application with realistic exercises, conversational examples, and check-ins that equip parents to implement the ideas immediately. I enjoyed the way the authors framed the parent-child relationship as a mentor-mentee dynamic. I think this is especially beneficial for the tween and teenage years, as children are exploring their independence more. The book was direct and to the point, easy to read, and hard to put down, saving me time by eliminating the need to read through all the “extra fluff.”
