Surely fairy tales don’t happen in real life? After being jilted at the altar, high-flying journalist Sam doesn’t believe in love any more – and she certainly doesn’t believe in fairy tales! Colour me disappointed! I kept waiting for my inner Disney-princess to emerge on reading this, but only a cynical eyeroller surfaced who was not very happy about having to finish this.
I like chick-lit: there's nothing more relaxing after a hard day/week that leaves you braindead than some rush of literary candy. However, there is a general benchmark for me in rating these books: the harder you have to work on suspending disbelief, the weaker the story/writing is.
I was ready to be entertained and swept up by this book and to disregard the fact that it felt very much like it was a quick hop on the royal-weddings-bandwagon, but instead of entertainment only boredom came.
It was like watching a low-budget romcom film on TV, where the actors were cutsey-ish, but kept repeating their lines without conviction or emotion and you just couldn't get into their stories because there was not much behind.
The awkward situations the MC constantly got into were more irritating than funny and her blatant naivety (a totally weak excuse to keep the story going) was very disturbing considering she was supposed to be a spot-on, intelligent journalist.

There was one time at work when I noticed that people’s eyes were following me across the office and then I realised I was trailing a six-foot long piece of loo roll from my shoe. I was a head-turner that day. And then there was another time when people kept glancing at me on the tube. I thought maybe they were checking me out. It was only when I got off that I realised I had bird s* in my hair. I was definitely turning heads that day.
There are five images of my butt in total, bulging in white lace. My Review:
I enjoy the engaging manner in which Zoe May spins a tale while generously weaving in clever levity, endearingly quirky and awkward characters, insightful observations, and wryly-comical descriptions and inner musings. I enjoyed the storylines as well as all the creative extra touches tossed in as added treats, such as the witty puns used in the creation of greeting cards by Samantha’s friend and roommate.
Samantha was a political reporter who was well acclimated to covering Westminster with no interest in the royals but when a co-worker went on maternity leave, Samantha’s boss reassigned her to cover all the hoopla and madness leading up to and following the upcoming nuptials of a British reality star and a Norwegian prince. Samantha was greatly annoyed by the switch to fluffy news as well as the extravagance and ridiculousness of how her fellow associates in the press rapturously swooned over each minuscule detail of the event. However, she kept running into one particularly appealing and charismatic reporter who always seemed to have an inside scoop as well as familiarity with all the wedding vendors. And then she really ran into him, with her car.

Pretty apt timing for this one seeing we have a royal wedding on the not too distant horizon, and after reading the blurb for How (Not) to Date a Prince, it sounded far more up my street than the actual pending nuptials.

For me this was pure indulgent escapism with fabulous characters and a story that I lost myself in over a couple of hours as Sam acquaints herself with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with reporting on a royal wedding. Yet at the same time she’s completely and endearingly oblivious when it comes to the striking man who has caught her eye.

Whilst I appreciated the balance between rom-com and the more serious real-life issues that were touched on, I can’t deny I would have liked a little more romance between Anders and Sam, but all in all How (Not) to Date a Prince was a charming, feel-good introduction to Zoe May’s writing and a glorious summer-read.

The perfect fairy-tale ending-giving hope to every normal girl in the country...

I am going to go out on a limb here somewhat and say that even though we aren’t even half way through 2018 yet, How (Not) to Date a Prince may actually be my number one read of the year.
Love has never really worked out for me…
You look at the synopsis for this one, and it’s pretty easy to gather the gist of the story, and to be honest Zoe May really didn’t step too far off the predictable path that Samantha and Anders' story took.
It must be a Norwegian thing.
But it was just so well written, all the little problems and issues that popped up along the way, and Sam’s total ignorance as to who she was dealing with just added a whole extra layer to what was already a really spectacular read.

The author/publisher have picked the perfect time to release this one, with the Royal Wedding fast approaching, and if like me you have always yearned to have your own Cinderella happily ever after, then How (Not) to Date a Prince will be right up your street.
He’s more than just a hot guy to end my dry spell… he’s special. He’s the man I didn’t even realize I was waiting for…
This is a really light-hearted read, there were more than a few giggles along the way. Plenty of wit and sarcasm included that endears you to the down-to-earth characters all the more. The author touches on serious issues as well, but this was just pure reading escapist perfection all wrapped up in a wedding-planning mayhem package!

And they all lived happily ever after...
A lighthearted uplifting story that will make you smile! Zoe May Will sweep you up in the fairytale with her engaging storytelling. This book came out last year during the build up to the royal wedding, so how appropriate that I read it the day that the little prince was born.
Sam does not believe in love, she does not believe in the fairytale, and the last thing she wants to do is report on the royal wedding. But her boss is of a different mind and Sam soon finds herself thrust into the middle of all the hoopla. She also finds herself continually running into the same handsome guy, but Sam has no room for love in her life.
This book was so much fun and I loved how perfectly paced the romance was. Sam and Anders spend time really getting to know one another, and bit by bit Sam lets down her guard.But then she is hit buy one BIG secret. Will the blooming Romance be able to recover? A lovely little escape that will make you giggle and swoon.

How (Not) To Date A Prince is a Light hearted, Fun Rom Com about restoring faith in romance, second chances, Friendship and unexpected Romance.
Sam is a Political journalist who has been tasked with reporting all aspects of the Prestigious Royal Wedding.
But Sam is far from being thrilled.
She has given up on Romance and believing in happy ever afters, since her fiancé dumped her by text on their wedding day!
So it's no wonder she can't share in everyone's excitement.
But after some persuasion she eventually agrees to report the whole wedding with as much light hearted as she can muster.
But things might just be looking up when she meets the handsome and very charming Anders.
But can he restore Sam's faith in Romance and Men? Or is this mysterious Man to good to be true?
I loved Sam it was brilliant to see her changing and warming to the wedding shenanigans, as the story progresses.
She's not had it easy, I can't imagine what it must feel like to be jilted by text at the altar. So I was willing her and Anders, she deserves a happy ever after too!
I also loved reading all about all the preparation and wedding planning I felt like I was privileged to be getting an insider's view, it was brilliant!
How (Not) To Date A Prince has come at the perfect time when we have just had the arrival of the Royal baby it seems very fitting.
It's a Light hearted, enchanting and hilarious romp, with mishaps, Drama and the odd mayhem, fabulous fun relatable Characters and a heart warming romance what's not to love!

Charming, Endearing, Plenty of laugh out loud moments and is lots of Fun then you will adore How (Not) To Date A Prince.

In the honour of old 90s chick flick films like, two weeks notice and Notting Hill this book is guaranteed to take you back in time and leave you with a feel good feeling.
Perfect for reading on a lovely sunny day and the timing of this book couldn’t be more perfect with a real life royal wedding happening in a few days time.
This book is a quick and easy to read romantic comedy. That will have you laughing and swept away with the romance of it all. Pure escapism at its best.
When wedding Phobic SAM Is asked to cover the royal wedding she couldn’t be more put out and annoyed. It seems Sam is the only one who isn’t swept away with the romantic fairytale and she couldn’t think of anything she would rather do less then cover the royal wedding.
But her boss thinks it’s high time that she opened herself up again to the possibilities of love and happily ever afters. Phil is all too aware of how hard this assignment is going to be for Sam. After he helped pick up the pieces when Sam was jilted at the aisle. But Phil is determined to make Sam realise that not all guys are the same, and so pushes her head first into the royal assignment.

This is a hilarious romcom that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. Sam is a politics journalist who has struggled after being jilted at the author. The last thing she wants is to be covering the story of the Royal Wedding, especially as she no longer believes in love or fairy tales. As she endeavours to put aside her personal feelings, she has so many things to investigate in preparation for the big day - who knew there was so much to learn about flower arranging, or so many different cake options, for example? As Sam struggles to complete some of the tasks, the handsome Anders keeps coming to her rescue. Just who is he? Can she really let him sweep her off her feet? What's his secret?
This is such a funny story, I giggled my way through it. You really won't anticipate some of the situations Sam gets herself into! It is a light-hearted, somewhat irreverent look at the journalists who cover the pomp and ceremony of a Royal Wedding and a modern day, fairy tale, royal romance. If you're looking for a right royal fun read that'll put a smile on your face grab yourself a copy!

Sam's talents as a journalist are put to the test, when she is forced to cover a royal wedding. Things take an interesting twist when she meets Norwegian journalist Anders.

This was such a fun little story about a workaholic Yorkshirewoman, who is skeptical about love - no wonder I was able to connect!
After being jilted at the altar, Sam has been totally focused on work. She is a political reporter, and is proud of the place she has earnt. In the last few years, she just hasn't been interesting in dating.
Until she keeps bumping into Anders, a handsome Norwegian, working on the same story.
For a romcom, the romance side is light, which is a good thing for me.
There's so much ore to Sam's life, there's her job, her boss/father figure, and all of her friends. They all have so much to give.
Some of the cute bits are definitely on the cheesy side, and struck awkward more than funny; but overall it was an entertaining story.
I enjoyed this, and I'd definitely read more by May.

For Sam work is her number one purpose in life. After a disastrous wedding day that left her heartbroken, she is no longer interested in relationships. She wants to be independent and successful and will do it on her own. Sam is a political journalist at a national newspaper and she loves her job. Her boss temporarily has something different in mind for her though, he will give her a challenge, she has to cover the upcoming royal wedding. Sam wants to refuse, she doesn't do weddings and dislikes romance, but she doesn't have a choice. She has to write about the event, whether she likes it or not.
Sam meets Anders in an elevator. He's also involved in the royal wedding, but not for the same paper. Because of her new task Sam keeps running into him. The handsome mysterious man piques her interest and finally Sam is ready to spend time with a man again. However, she seems to make a mess of every meeting they have, but he also makes her smile. Anders has a good influence on her attitude towards her new job, will he reawaken Sam's romantic feelings and what will happen when sparks start to fly? There's something Sam doesn't know that can change the way she sees him forever...
How (Not) to Date a Prince is an endearing romantic story. I was immediately fascinated by the handsome and enigmatic Anders. He's a kindhearted man and genuinely seems to care about Sam. I loved the chemistry between them and liked that they have a great click on an intellectual level as well. Sam doesn't believe in love anymore, but Anders makes her reconsider. I liked how Sam lowers her guard every time they're together. She's a smart and capable woman who deserves to be loved and cherished. My eagerness to find out if they'd get their happily ever after made me read How (Not) to Date a Prince in one sitting.
Zoe May has a wonderful funny writing style and her vivid and hilarious descriptions of Sam's adventures often made me laugh out loud. I was enchanted by Sam's assignment and loved every detail of the process of covering a royal wedding. Zoe May clearly knows what she's writing about when she describes Sam's job and that made the story really enjoyable for me. I love a good true love story with plenty of drama and that's exactly what How (Not) to Date a Prince is all about. It's such an amusing book filled with surprising scenes. The ending is incredibly fitting and melted my heart. How (Not) to Date a Prince is a gorgeous love story.
Sam meets Anders in an elevator. He's also involved in the royal wedding, but not for the same paper. Because of her new task Sam keeps running into him. The handsome mysterious man piques her interest and finally Sam is ready to spend time with a man again. However, she seems to make a mess of every meeting they have, but he also makes her smile. Anders has a good influence on her attitude towards her new job, will he reawaken Sam's romantic feelings and what will happen when sparks start to fly? There's something Sam doesn't know that can change the way she sees him forever...
How (Not) to Date a Prince is an endearing romantic story. I was immediately fascinated by the handsome and enigmatic Anders. He's a kindhearted man and genuinely seems to care about Sam. I loved the chemistry between them and liked that they have a great click on an intellectual level as well. Sam doesn't believe in love anymore, but Anders makes her reconsider. I liked how Sam lowers her guard every time they're together. She's a smart and capable woman who deserves to be loved and cherished. My eagerness to find out if they'd get their happily ever after made me read How (Not) to Date a Prince in one sitting.
Zoe May has a wonderful funny writing style and her vivid and hilarious descriptions of Sam's adventures often made me laugh out loud. Sorry, it just wasn't good. The best part is that I bought it for $1 and it didn't take me long to get through. The writing was just... odd. There were a lot of exclamation points and the dialogue was just really, really bad. Most of the book is just the MC doing things like eating cake, trying on dresses, looking at flowers; things like that so it wasn't fairly interesting either. The MC is a grown woman who is supposed to be a serious journalist, but she was super naive and pretty bad at her job. While the romance is cute, it's so rushed and they are barely together before they are forced apart until a dramatic reunion that just didn't feel like it was earned. Mixed in with a bunch of other awkward and ridiculous moments, it was just a mess. I'm pretty bummed this wasn't a winner.

This is a not so clever modern-day retelling of the Cinderella story complete with the lost glass slipper. The characters were flat and the story trite. Not a winner for me.

With the royal wedding approaching this is a cute read! I like that it tries to look at more serious subjects like welfare reform as well as the lighter aspects. I did feel like things got resolved too quickly and I would have liked to have known what was in the letter.

This was a quick and cheap read ($1 on Kindle!)
It was probably meant to take advantage of the royal wedding, but it was such a fluffy piece of cotton candy, I'm not even made. Seriously, this book will give you a toothache.
Sam is a tough political reporter. She cares about Westminister and helping people. She doesn't have time for dating - having been left at the alter years ago. Through a series of coincidences, she was assigned to cover the royal wedding between the crown prince of Norway. When she bumps into a competing reporter - Anders, sparks fly. Anders always seems to have the scoop on her, and while he seems happy to share, Sam is used to being the best.
Zoe May does a great job of creating an adorable rom-com. There aren't surprises here, it's exactly what it says on the cover - but then, that can be what makes a rom-com so enjoyable. If you're feeling the royal wedding fever or just want a light beach read - I definitely recommend checking this out.

While nobody expects a romance book about a journalist and a prince to be particularly realistic, I found this book to be a bit over-the-top in it's lack of realism. A prince is sent to wander around London on his own and is running wedding errands? A journalist doesn't recognize the brother in the family she is currently covering? A few too many holes for me, though it is a light, quick read.

How (Not) to Date a Prince is a nice,easy and funny read.
Even if it the plot isn't so original and unpredictable I really have had a good time reading this story.
I smiled a lot at our heroine expense because she is always in the middle of some weird predicament but all is well that ends well.

A gorgeously romantic and laugh-out-loud funny book perfectly timed in the run up to the Royal wedding. A great cast of supporting characters and Zoe's perfectly pitched narrative voice make this a fun, flirty, wonderful read.

So firstly if, like a lot of people I know, you can’t wait for the upcoming celebrations (or maybe even your own wedding!) this could be your ideal read, guaranteed bridal bonanza!
Think of all the exciting planning that goes in to a wedding; choosing the perfect dress, sourcing a delicious cake, finding those must-wear shoes… that’s what this book is filled with as you accompany Sam and friends through the wedding coverage hysteria.
Love shy Sam is, however, a cynic of true love and doesn’t share her friends’ enthusiasm for all of the wedding craziness (think we’ve all felt like that from time to time). A serious political journalist with a real passion for social reform, she is lumbered with covering the lovefest in a bid to stop her career from derailing. When she meets Anders (lovely, dishy, flirtatious but mysterious Anders) she feels a spark of something she long thought forgotten but with the pressure mounting to deliver on the story of the year a whole manner of problems mount up. Of course, as with all fairytales a happy ending is inevitable but this book really was such an enjoyable and entertaining read.
Like Sam, you can’t help but love the Royal couple and all of the lavish, fairytale features of their day to remember, but equally you share Sam’s hilarious misfortunes (especially an ill-timed drunken wedding dress parade – think THAT episode of F.R.I.E.N.D.S!). It is like a very amusing mash up of Bridget Jones’ Diary, Cinderella and Enchanted all wrapped up and delivered in a witty, fun, contemporary Romance.

This book reminded me a lot of when I first started reading what I call "chick lit", back in the late 90s, early 2000s. In a good way. It was funny, sweet, and a real page turner. A lot of the books I was reading back then were actually set in England, so it was fun to read all the different English phrases and terms that are not what I usually hear in my day to day life. It was a lot of fun thinking about the whole Royal Wedding that just recently took place, obviously, especially now that the new Royal baby has been born as well! It reminded me that even though I may never get married myself, the reason I still kind of want a wedding is all the cake tasting and food choosing, etc. I can see getting swept up in all the madness if I had been over in England during the Royal Weddings of the past, but I also totally get Sam's pessimistic take on all things to do with love. And I haven't even been left at the altar! If you enjoy a sweet romance with some royalty thrown in along with lots of fun British mannerisms, this is the book for you!

I've already read a couple of Zoe May's books and enjoyed them, so I knew I'd like this, too.
We have a high flying, love-jaded journalist, Sam, used to reporting on political matters, who is flung into the melee of the soon-to-occur royal wedding of the century between a homegrown ordinary girl done good to a Norwegian Prince.
This is so not her, but slowly, she ends up being pulled into the excitement of the build-up, as the gifts and freebies begin arriving, and especially because she has met one of the other paper's wedding reporters, Anders, and his Norwegian self has created flutters in places that she hasn't felt in a long while.
It was gigglesome to step into the world of journalists who cover these occasions instead of the serious world matters that Sam is used to.
Sam has lost her faith in love, after being jilted at the altar three years ago.
Anders is a tall, blonde Norwegian Adonis with an interest in weddings, and he seems to have some inside knowledge, too. But he's a genuinely lovely guy.
You know what the ending will be, but sometimes it is good to have a story that you can read, enjoy and smile through, knowing you'll get your HEA!

I have to admit it. I am a big sucker for weddings and the whole entourage. I am not particulary a fan of royals, but a royal wedding is something I like to watch on tv. Do I need to say more when I saw this book was about a royal wedding?? No, I did not think so. ;)
I think a lot of (little) girls dream about a fairy tale wedding and why not. When you meet the right person, he IS your prince even if he does not wear a crown and he will make you feel like a real princess.
This is a lovely story about not believing in love anymore, but being shot by one of Cupid's arrows and falling head over heels.
Whilst writing this book, the author also opened boxes marked 'humour' and 'Cinderella' and added a royal (pun intended :) ) sprinkling of both.If you like all these things in a book, you will thoroughly enjoy it, just like I did.
Was it predictable? Yes, but who cares when the story is fun? I most certainly don't. 5 stars.

I have so many issues with this book, starting with how much of a mediocre journalist she is! I mean, she is supposed to be a hot shot political reporter, how in the hell did she manage to fail in doing the MOST basic of background checks on the subject of her story?? A simple check on the royal family was enough to se who he was!
It also really bothered me that by the time she finds out who he is, she acts like they have this deep meaningful relationship and she's deeply in love, when she doesn't actually know him, there was no relationship, just a few very short meet cutes, I don't think they expend more than an hour total together since they meet until she got arrested!
