I’m in so deep that I can’t see the way out.

The boss of the Rizzo family needs me. I need to get closer to Carmine Lucchesi, a captain in his family. I need to steal information from him. He’s a sweet man, but underneath there’s something damaged, something deranged.

The boss wants me to leave Vincent, the man I love. End the engagement. I'm with Carmine until he says so. Until I get what he needs.

Or he’ll kill Vincent. He’ll kill my mother, and Vincent’s mother, and everyone I've ever cared about.

I don’t have a choice. I need to end it with him, even though I love him. Even though it just might kill me.

Author's note: This is the sequel to High Stakes, with the same characters. Read High Stakes before reading this book! This is a mafia romance novel, it contains a possessive alpha male hero with themes of kink and mature situations that could make readers uncomfortable.

4.5 Suspenseful, Gritty Stars!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Double Blind
picks up right on the heels of High Stakes. Vincent is a capo within an Italian mafia family...the Vittaros. He's fallen in love with Adriana, preparations for their upcoming wedding coming along. He's forever conscious of the rival Rizzo mafia family. He's aware of their power struggles. A delicate balance of control while watching his back at the same time.

This book is a rough one to review. I don't want to give too much away or spoil the ride. Double Blind was filled with everything mafia dark...it's gritty and violent. They live by their own codes. But when Adriana is dragged into their battles, Vince has to make decisions on what and who is most important to him.

This book was much more action packed than the first. Their relationship is established, now the outside world taps on their door, threatening their happily ever after.

I liked Vince's character. He's fallen in love yet the author stays true to his roots in all things illegal. He's dominating, a bit arrogant, yet unfailingly in love with Adriana. She's tough, knows who he is and accepts him...flaws and all.

As I said, nothing is sugar coated. In fact, one scene I found so gruesome, I was a bit taken back (I may or may not have gagged a bit). This duet is definitely not for the light fluffy readers. I'd highly recommend it for those who like a bit of everything in their reads...dark, gritty, suspenseful, and let's not forget steamy.

And I thank you.

"We’re all a bunch of savages barely constrained by rules, laws, and religion. Fuck it all."

Adriana & Vince's story continues in DOUBLE BLIND. Things get a lot heavier and DEFINITELY DARK in this one due to a side character who turns out to be the villain in the story (quoted above). We get chapters told from his point of view and I thought it was a great portrayal of a psychopath (though, I'm not quite sure where he technically falls in the psych textbooks, but the guy is seriously deranged!). His backstory is revealed through his inner monologues and it's both sad and disturbing; I couldn't help feel sorry for him too. Now, did I really want to be in the headspace of a man who should be in a mental institution? And who is not the (anti)hero of the story? Probably not so much in a romance, but that's my personal issue with it. I'm not particularly interested in books that are heavy on the suspense factor. Still, I appreciated the story.

What I enjoyed the most?? Vince & Adriana <3
Vince's alphaness was highly triggered here and I loved it!

"We’re not fucking done, sweetheart. Not by a long shot."

Vincent Cesare, you had me at 'fucking.'

"You want me. You need me. And I’m going to hear you beg for me.”

Le sigh.

Anyways, another favorite thing: I got an even stronger GOODFELLAS vibe in book 2. Vinny and his crew are such wiseguys! Very authentic-feely.

HEA: Yes, no cliffhanger.

Content Warning: contains graphic violence and issues related to abuse. One scene with sexual assault (not involving the hero).

Double Blind (Vittorio Crime Family #2)
By: Vanessa Waltz
5/5 stars

So when I read the blurb for this book, I was somewhat upset that Vince and Adriana weren’t going to get to be together because of the two heads of the crime families playing with their lives for their own benefit. I wanted to kick both Tony Rizzo & Jack Vittorio. I know that Jack was trying to keep peace between the families, but still, I wasn’t so sure of his reasoning.

Tony Rizzo needs someone to get close to Carmine and see if he is double crossing his family. Tony knows that Carmine has a thing for Adriana and that she is really the only person who could do this job. Jack gives in and agrees with Tony even though it is somewhat reluctantly. It almost seemed like a token disagreement just so Adriana wouldn’t tell Vince what was going on. I also thought this made Jack seem like he was weak since he was just going along with it.

I felt horribly for Vince. Adriana breaking up with him and ending the engagement almost pushed him over the edge and he was in so much pain. Then to add to that, the other captains and the rest of the family knows what an insult it is to lose your woman, but then it’s just salt in the wound to lose your woman to another mobster in a rival family.

Carmine has some screws loose in his head, but at first he can hide his problems really well. I really did feel bad for Carmine because he’s someone, who had an awful childhood that ruined him and which still causes him problems even though he’s in his 30s. You just know that if he had someone who loved him as deeply and intensely as he loved her, he could be healed from most of his past scars. But currently, there is just too much craziness clogging his mind.

I’m glad that we got to see all 3 POVs from Adriana, Vince and Carmine. I think that is what really helped make this a 5 star book, when I wasn’t so sure about it because of the blurb. I was also worried about how this would be carried out and if it would end up being a love triangle. Thankfully, it wasn’t a love triangle (because those aren’t my type of books) but you couldn’t help but feel for a three of the main characters.

We do learn more about Adriana’s past in this book and more about her mother. Yes her crazy mom is still around, though she doesn’t get to cause any problems if she wants to live. She does & she takes the threats seriously since she tried to set-up Vince to be killed by the Rizzo family. This is the conclusion to Vince & Ade’s story, but they do make appearances in the third book.

Wow... Just wow!

GREAT STORY!! This second book blew me away. I was not expecting this (the whole breaking up and attaching to another man thing), and was so pleasantly surprised to love it! You get it from three PoVs. Adriana, Vincent, and Carmine's. The sex scenes were hot, but few, which aloud for a lot of story development. I really appreciated that. Adriana and Vincent have hot chemistry. I loved being inside Carmine's head too... Thanks for that!!

Oh Vanessa, you wicked imaginative minx... This was an absolute page turner for me. Started off slow as the story was setting itself up, but once you get into the meat of it it was so good. A few grammatical errors that I know people are going to boo hoo over, but they don't detract from the story at all in my opinion.

I did receive an arc for an honest review, and this is my honest opinion. Vanessa can tell an amazing story!!! Sighhhh... More please.

Words can't express the feelings I had in this book. But I felt everything Vince and Ade went through. This book was simply put Fanfuckingtastic. Sorry. It was so captivating and I could not put it down. It tied up the questions in the first book so well. And Vanessa, you have a wonderful psycho mind and I love it.
I am not giving any hints just this...if you read the first, you must read this book as well. You will be so happy you did.

One of the books I bought waaaay back, and it just didn't get read. No reason, I wanted to read it, but other books pushed it aside. I finally say down and said enough, and put it on the list for next. Now, 2 more books came along and tried to bump, but while i wavered, I stayed strong - glad I finally, finally, got there!

This was great! There is action, smexy, emotion, and two beautiful people who are so committed to each other, they would do anything for the other. All that had me settling in for a read, and quickly devouring the book in a single sitting without a single break

Now, I'm thinking I need to get back and unearth some of the others buried in my TBR.....

5 'Crazie good' Stars!!!

I'll admit while I was super excited for this sequel to Adriana and Vince's story, I did have some trepidation going into it. Like most sequels, Im always hoping they will continue to wield that magical power and keep me as intrigued as I was with the first book. I'm happy to say that Ms. Waltz did not disappoint! I was along for the intriguing thrill ride all the way to the end!

Adriana thinks she and Vince have cleared the way and only have the future to look forward to now. But Vince knows differently. He knows the war with the rival family, the Rizzos can't carry on and they need to find a way to make peace. Only he doesn't realize it may cost him his future.
When Adriana is approached by the Rizzos she has a choice to make. Work for them or risk both her mother and Vince's mother being killed. Oh and one other small detail.....break off the engagement with Vince and break his heart first. Yikes!!

This is one of the best mafia romance stories I've read in a long time.
It definitely left all the 'cheesiness' and stereotypes at the door. Even though it can be dark and sometimes disturbing, it has great angst, drama, romance, murder, lies and deceit. Everything you'd imagine a good mafia story to have.

If you're a fan of dark romantic mafia stories this book is calling your name! Highly recommend!

I was given an ARC copy for a fair review and just bought a copy for my Kindle because I loved the book that much. :)

I read Double Blind last night and ended up re-reading it today, while I was home sick in bed because the story was that good. I loved the first book, but was completely blown away by this book. No, the book is not fluffy and light, if that's the type of book you are looking for. However, if you are looking for a dark book, with compassionate, real and flawed characters, I highly recommend this book.

Adriana is not the typical heroine that we have grown accustomed to in this genre, which is why I actually like her. I have often read books that have women who are "perfect" and not very intelligent, to where I have difficulty seeing them as a believable character. This was definitely not the case!

I loved Vincent in the first book and absolutely adored him in the second book, due to hearing his POV., along with feeling his love for Adriana.

I hope there will be a third book, one about Maria and someone from the Vittorio family (that would be awesome).

awesome!

this book was Just as good if not better than the first one

it kept me in edge with all the drama and suspense, and while I was reading I kept thinking "I didn't see that coming"

although carmine was a crazy sexy man, I felt sorry for him, he still reminded me of a young boy who wanted his mother's love, so towards the end I had mixed feelings about him..

I have loved reading these books since the first chapter in the first book.. Vince is my kind of man and I think they work well together, she's not a gold digger she actually truly loves him, and I think they Mae a great couple..

I'm hoping to hear more, but I'm not sure if more of them will be too much I'm hoping to read more about Maria (best friend) we shall see :-)

I highly recommend!

I received an ARC eBook in exchange for an honest review! This is Part 2 in the dark romance between Vince and Adriana. Their explosive chemistry continues as they are thrusted into a dangerous situation out of each other's control. Again, I was swept away to a world I would never personally know (thank God)! This second part of their story will immerse you in the suspenseful and dangerous events that separate them. I loved reading more about Adriana and Vince's story and recommend it to romance readers who want to visit a world decidedly different from their own!

LOVED IT! EVEN BETTER THAN THE FIRST BOOK.

FANTASTIC. I loved ever moment of this book, even more than the first one. MS. Waltz has a way of writing characters that are not only totally believable, but you want to know everything about. This realistic style even had me feeling a little sorry for Carmine. Vince and Ade are a couple I will remember for a long time, and isn't that one of the best things about reading great books.?. I highly recommend you read this -- you won't be sorry

So i started reading this book yesterday and finished it yesterday like around midnight. TO be completely i like the first one a lot but for some reason i was not DYING to read book two. Now that i have...... LET JUST SAY AM SO GLAD I DID. This book was way better than the first one. More action, more details about the characters, a new characters POV was introduce and that made the book so much better. What can i say. THIS BOOK IS A YES Happy i read it and am even hoping for book 3? maybe, it wouldn't be so bad.

Loved this sequel to High Stakes. The opportunity to develop characters over multiple books should NEVER be under-emphasized. This book is an opportunity to learn more about Vince and Adrianna's characters and their relationship. I know these two pop up here and there in other books (both this series and others) but I'm still really hoping Vanessa Waltz revists them one day. There is so much more to their story.

This book was great. I loved the continuation of Adriana and Vinces story. This book felt so much more action packed. I was on the edge of my seat worrying what was going to happen next. My only issue is I felt like it just ended. I kind of wanted an Epilogue. That's just my opinion though. Otherwise another amazing story by Vanessa Walt she's definitely becoming one of my favorite authors!

3.5 STARS

This is book #2 of the Vittorio Crime family. I liked this book better than the first one. There is more suspense and drama in this one as well as secrets and betrayal. Add in some good sex, (though not a whole lot of sex) and a psycho and you've got a pretty good book.

I recommend for those who enjoy mafia-type stories as well as alpha males.

4.5 stars! Loved this one even more than High Stakes! Non-stop action from the beginning. Loved the unpredictability of the story and the different POVs. I would've liked a more solid ending, it felt kind of rushed. Overall, great book! Desperately hoping Waltz gives us more of Ade and Vince!

*Doing the "drop that kitty down low" dance.*

Okay, um yeah, so!!! This book was so packed with drama mama and action, I was a bouncing ball reading it!

I have to say, I felt unbelievably sad and compassion towards Carmine. What I liked and disliked about this book is Carmines point of view and his childhood. It made my heart break for him even when he was so evil, so so evil. But you kind of found that itsy bitsy compassionate molecul in your heart and feel sad about him.

Vincent fell hard and my cold bitch heart felt for him.

This author writes well mafia. Like really well, totally hooked me and I'm a junkie, going through her books like the world is about to end. She's so good!

Now my only complaint, I've noticed this has occurred in her books, that main male character does not have any true friend to trust. Logically I understand in this field of uh work they won't last and people are backstabbing assholes BUT I love comrades and to start liking a side character who gets their own book.

YES 3 of her books finished. I’m a mood reader and Crime Family was what I needed. I’ve added her to my author list to follow and YES I will be reading a lot more of her books to come.
At first this book was tough. I DO NOT like my couples broken up for any reason. But it was handled in a great way that fell into the story and made it work.
I really enjoy her writing style and it was an easy read and a nice HEA as well.
