It's difficult to know what to say about this one. I genuinely enjoyed the romance, but Konnor was disturbing. He needs professional help. Copious amounts of professional help. He doesn't get it, of course, and the next book in the series is Konnor spending even more time not getting professional help, which just makes my skin crawl. The guy is seriously one step away from a stalking that graduates to a murder/suicide. Therapy was invented for guys like Konnor, and I feel like White treated his mental state a bit flippantly.

Also, the virginity issue irked me. Virginity is not a precious commodity, and the sooner people stop treating it as such, the better.

What a sweet story. It had so many 'awww' moments for me and some very sexy scenes. I loved the chemistry bewteen the lovers and the tenderness of the topic. The epilogue was lovely. What a beautiful guy on the cover, too.

*** 3 Stars ***

This book copy given by the author and she asked only for honest review with all the risk.

description

I was the balance of negativity for your positivity; the balance of disinterest to your eagerness. You got the optimistic part and I got the pessimistic part. Together we're balanced and whole.

Finally full review...

Okay, I must admit, it's kinda hard for me to review this book without spill any spoilers. Some book better not be reviewed with spoilers, like this one.
Why ?
Cuz it better other reader experience the story, and the "journey" by themselves and feel what I feel.

So, yes....It seems I must give the "WARNING" notice before I continued my review.

This review may contain some spoilers, and read it at your own risk...

oOo

First, it's not my usual habit to review book asked personally by the authors.

Reason ?
It burdened me sometime. I don't like being caught between friendship code ethics & being bluntly honest.
But I make exception for this one.

Why ?
Cuz the author asked me politely, and she asked me to review her book in honest way and said she's okay with my bluntness. Another reason is, I've been intrigued by the blurb and yes, it's GFY ! One of my fave theme.

So, here is what I thought after finished the book.

~ Yes, I'm a coverslut, so YES, I LOVE the cover very much !

~ Misleading blurb. I thought it was Konnor, but then it turn out to be Cormag ?
It's kinda surprised me at first, but then... *smirks*

~ Confusing POV changes. Hv to check the previous page to do some back and forth reading at some part due to know which one is speaking. It's kinda annoying a bit at first. But then I ignore it, cuz it's more interesting to know what will happen next rather than keep dealing with that annoying part.

~ Interesting plot and storyline. Even though its seems "simple" but the fact is "not as simple as it is"...
I found it interesting enough as i read the book.
I really want to know the "how-why-what-when" that make me curious while reading it.
I want to know "WHY" behind the "sudden change", and "WHAT" happened in Lachlan head and "HOW" his brain work.
Really, it's interesting to follow.

~ GFY theme. You know why I hv special fond in GFY theme ?

Cuz I love the "proces".

The truth, the struggle, the realization, the denial, the journey, the recognition...all always interesting to follow.
This book has it and it written in unique way.

The "no-sex-deal" until the "right time" & "no-below-weist-make-out-rule" really heighten the anticipation.
And if you looking for energizer-bunny-kinda-sex here, just so you know, you won't find it here.
But for me ? I don't even care whether the sex is hot or not, as long as there's something occupied me and make me forget about hot sex I usually LOVE !

Some things are indeed "worth to wait" !

But the question is...

"Really ? It took a year ? Really ??"

My logical brain kinda doubted it, but hell it still worth to wait, indeed.

~ Sweet, but not too sugary to my taste.

~ Insta-attraction ~ yes, but can not say it's insta-love. Even I think what happened in first few chapters are way too fast, SPOILER ~ like the sudden change in Lachlan from his girlfriend to a stranger guy he barely know at the bar, seriously ? But as I read the story more further, I can easily know, "the why"....and yeah...I can understand.

~ Sometimes, I think Lachlan is way too old for 18 years old nerdy boy. What he said & the way his brain worked didn't suit his age, and that make me thinking "kinda wrong" or misplaced at some part. In the whole reading, I see Lachlan more as college student rather than a senior high.
He's totally an old soul, always took the lead, until the last page....
And yeah, it SURPRISED me with what he decided on the very end...

Again...
Really ? At 20 ?
Wow !!

~ Now let's move to Konnor. I know the reason why K did all those "big jerk" act from the very beginning, thanks to my very instinctive mind ~ I feel sorry for him with his "it's supposed to be me"-things, but still...it doesn't give him the right to do all those things that threatens their friendship.

But, yes...I do feel him...
That's why even he did all that un-respectful-things, still....I can not hate him to that level.
And that's make curious even more with what happen to this poor guy on the next book.

~ Cormag. SIGH, he is totally a very nice guy, he really took care Lachlan with his understanding, but not demanding. Like Lachlan always say, he's the most selfless guy he ever met. Gosh, and sweet...and smokin'-hot too !

Even he's 2 years older, but sometimes Lachlan looks way much older than him. I can not blame Cormag, cuz what he'd been through with his previous relationship.
This big guy totally need to be cuddled, and he got it from Lachlan.
These two guys are like the key that unlocked each others door.
Perfectly suited for each other !

~ New author, new writing styles, need to find the pattern, I think it's not bad. Except for that confusing POV change, I found that I like the story she's trying to say. I even do some googling about and try to understand.

~ Finally, at very end, I must admit that I torned between 3 - 3.5 Stars, but still confused till the end..

That's why I decided not to rate the book until I finished writing my review.

Well, that's it.
See ya at Konnor story... ;)

I am a horrible reviewer. I never know what to say or how to say it, but here goes. I loved this story! So much I want to say, but I won't spoil it for you! Read it and enjoy. The main character coming into his life out of High school to find challenges that he never knew. After a emotional betrayal, he takes a chance with love with someone he never imagined. The sparks fly. :) this story is fun, intriguing, and hot. The plot was unpredictable which is always a plus in my eyes, love originality. I know there is a second book coming out and I can't wait to read more and see how their love story continues. "Sometimes, to be happy, you must first break out of the box." and that he did! And so did Elaine White with this one! <3 I may add more....if I can add without spoiling, but I at least wanted to get my 5 stars up! lol

I saw this on one of the book clubs I belong to on Facebook. I'm new to the genre and have really enjoy reading it lately. Decadent was great. So great it's getting my first review on Goodreads.

I loved how young the characters were. I am also a new college student and it was nice to relate. I know all to well the different struggles young people can face, and Lachlan(and who doesn't love that name???) has to face a difficult one when he is betrayed, but don't fret. He finds a common and loving bond with someone he never thought he would.

I would totally recommend this book to anyone. If you're looking for great plot with loving characters Decadent is it. And it has a great ending. Hope there is another book so I can read more about their love story.

Have you watched Supernatural? The episode where Dean and Sam find out that there is a whole book series about their life?
That's how I felt about this book. It hit home. In all the good and all the bad ways.

Lachlan is the "perfect" son, who wants to meets everyones expections.
Konnor is his best friend for 12 years and even though they're different in many ways, they have been sticking together for ages. That is, until Lachlan "wakes up".
Lachlan is (at the beginning of the book) dating his girflriend, and ready to tell her that he loved her - that he even considered marriage. Then he finds out that she's been cheating on him for weeks and he's heartbroken - ofc.
Taking the one advice Konnor gave him ages ago, Lachlan wants to get smashed at the bar he's working part-time. And that's exactly what he does. However, he's not alone - there's someone with him, someone who takes care of him, someone who gives him cheap wodka and later on a lot of coffee. That's Cormag.
He's twenty (to Lachlan's eighteen years) and he is one of the sweetest guy you've ever met. He's been badly hurt by his ex-bf's but he never lost his kind soul. In my head, he's older than 20, because he's just so... steady.
Lachlan meets Cormag and suddenly everything and nothing makes sense anymore.
There is insta-attraction, there's an insta-connection and no matter how over the top insta-love can be portrayed in any genre - this one was beautiful. Right there and then I felt overflown with love, remembered my own story, my own feelings and I got Lachlan. Meeting the person that understands you, with whom you can talk for hours on end, everything fading to black... Yes, I get that. I can relate. They talk and talk and talk. Lachlan forgets about his ex-gf, this guy makes him feel better, alive, as if he had just found a new purpose in life.
Then Konnor appeares. At first, I felt sorry for him - he visibly cares about his best friend, he wants to be there to take care of Lachlan. However, he has to find ou (after searching for hours) that his friend is at the bar, flirting with a stranger. He assumes it's a woman, nope. It's Cormag and he sees red.
You see, I hate Konnor. That's not even starting to cover how I feel about him. I think he's selfish, absolutely ignorant to Lachlan's feelings - he's such a big jerk I wanted Lachlan to hit him. I'm not prone to violence but that guy...
Lachlan, who feels better than he ever has in ages, is pissed off because he's interrupted by Konnor.
Lachlan thinks Konnor is acting stupid. Konnor thinks he's protecting Lachlan by doing so. They're both stupid.
I was a little bit put off because Konnor always kept rambling about sex, but that was explained at the end and the fact that this book had three major POV's (Konnor, Lechlan and Cormag) made it worse. His thoughts are not only immature, he's actually crazy. (and a stalker)
Lechlan goes home with Cormag (That's a little bit reckless, I admit) but they talk for hours on end, and end up sleeping next to each other in bed where Konnor finds Lachlan the next morning.
I understand jealousy, I understand confusion because everything changes from zero to hundred and I know how hard that can be. Lachlan feels strongly for Cormag, he knows that he wants to be with him, that what they have is special. he can feel it in his soul, his whole being and that's the beauty of their relationship. Cormag is the same, ever worried that he'll hurt Lachlan, that he's not good for him but equally selfish - he wants Lachlan.
This book is an insta-attraction one, with a very slow burn. They take their time, they talk, they cook, they avoid sexual encounters. (in the first two months)
Lachlan's family is great - his mother is 100 behind him, his father is warry. There are rules for Lachlan if he wants to see Cormag and that's okay. His family is behind him (more or less) and they talk about it.
I can't even name the things that make Cormag and Lachlan so real, so good together. Yes, there are differences between them, but they're two sides of a whole. It's okay for them to have two opinions, they don't always have to be the same. They just have to WANT the same. The same goals for them, the same visions. And they want a future together.
There's one thing that I didn't really like and that's Lachlan who startes to repeat if his friendship with Konnor can survive or not. I dreaded the scenes with Konnor, I hated his POV. Even when he confesses everything at the end... I was like: WTF???
He's obsessed with Lachlan. He's cruel. He wants to break him and Cormag apart by any means possible. He's an asshole. It overshadows the sweet romance. Maybe I wouldn't hate him so much if I couldn't read his thoughts.
Nevertheless, this book made me feel. It was an emotional rollarcoaster. I know that's because of me and not everyone will feel the same.
The romance was believable. Cormag and Lachlan fight for each other. They argue. They nearly break up.
I don't want to spoiler anything (more than I've already done) but if there's one thing I loved it was that Cormag and Lachlan explained why they reacted that way, why they feel so. Even if it's not in a dialoge, the reader is allowed to get a full on view on their raw feelings.
They don't act over the top.

This book (for me) was beautifully written, very believable and it left me emotionally drained. I loath Konnor. I love Cormag. I am Lachlan.
That's why this book is 4.75 stars for me.
Not 5 stars because I think the end was a little bit too rushed and I really didn't want to read about Konnor's POV.

~~~~ I received this book from the Author but it was my wish to write a honest review about it ~~~
Highly recommended!
The story is 4.5 stars, but with the formatting, spelling and grammar issues, it drops the rating to a 3.5.
Elaine White wrote a great story of coming of age. I enjoyed how she sets up the story line and develops the characters. I felt that the story was endearing and heartfelt. I could sympathize with the main character - could feel the angst of his struggle. White wrote in a manner that allowed me to realize how hard believing in yourself can be when you're so young. It also showed what true friendship can consist of, as well as what unconditional love looks like.
I liked that the reader was given a fairly comprehensive background for Cormag - it helped to understand where Lachlan fit in to his life. I also appreciated how hard Lachlan's decisions were for his friends and family to accept. But I loved that he stood up for what he wanted and believed - it made me really respect him and Cormag. I also felt that White did a great job of portraying a realistic relationship - it wasn't hyper-sexualized - it was more innocent than that, but it helped to foster the coming of age feeling. Despite the story line being somewhat predictable, I still enjoyed it a lot.
There are several typos, formatting issues (at least in the kindle) and some spelling issues (even though I realize there were some European spellings, there are also some common spelling errors). It made it more difficult to read the story because the poor editing distracted from the story. I also listened to some of the book while in the car and with the inconsistent spacing (especially with the pronoun "he" - h e) it made it very difficult to follow the audio. This book would be more well received if the edits were to be redone.
I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.
18 year old High school Senior Lachlan is finally going to do it. He's going to tell his girlfriend, Orion that he loves her. Before this can happen, he discovers her betrayal. After breaking things off with her, upset he heads to the local bar, to drown his sorrows. He proceeds to get drunk with the most beautiful guy he has ever laid eyes on. Lachlan is instantly attracted to Cormag, and the feeling is mutual.
Lachlan and Cormag start dating, but Lachlan's best-friend isn't happy with this. In fact Konnor is so unhappy he tries to cause waves between Lachlan and Cormag. Konnor can't accept the changes in his friend. Will Lachlan have to choose between his boyfriend and his best-friend?
I loved Lachlan and Cormag's story. We get to see Lachlan try a relationship, with a man, something he never thought he would do. We watch him face his parents and confront them with his new found sexuality. This is a good coming of age story. It's very low angst and kinda sweet and fluffy. It flows well, and Lachlan and Cormag have a good chemistry. The book has really good character development.
This book was a beta read for me, and I was honored to help Elaine shape this story. I just hope all of you enjoy Lachlan and Cormag's story as much as I did. I also hope you stick around for Konnor's story. It's going to be amazing!!
I do not have much to say about this book, except that I adored it. This was actually my first m/m romance, which I find odd because I am an Ally, but I just loved it.
I loved the main characters, Lachlan and Cormag. The author did a fantastic job telling the story of a young man that recently discovers he is gay. The growth of their relationship was organic and on point.
The sexual scenes were nicely written. They were not over the top as with most romances, just placed there because they are supposed to be. They seemed natural, and the story didn't revolve around them.
Because the sex is graphic, I should say that this book is for anyone 18+, but I am going to add that anyone questioning their sexuality, or deciding whether or not they want to share this part of them with their friends and family, should read this book. I think it will be a helpful companion.
Nicely done, Ms. White! I think you have found a new fan for life <3
I read the ebook version of Decadent. It is a very sweet book. A Pleasant and easy to read Romance.
I enjoyed the two main characters, Lachlan and Cormag. They were both well defined and dimensional characters. They are a well matched pair that still manages to have unique personalities and viewpoints. I enjoyed that there are enough subtleties sprinkled throughout amongst the straight forward information. It was also nice that the sexier bits never felt like they were thrown in just to have them, but rather to help organically show the strengthening bond.
I usually talk a little about things I may not have liked as much, but I didn't really find anything, I would recommend this to fans of Romance.
I really enjoyed Lachlan & Cormag's story. It's a sweet romance about these guys finding their way with each other while dealing with their families & friends as well as the changes and labels a new relationship like this brings. I liked that although the guys were together almost from the start, they still didn't rush their relationship. I enjoyed Lachlan & Cormag as characters, I liked their innocence & their vulnerabilities. At the beginning I really liked Konnor (Lachlan's best friend) & had high hopes for him but his behaviour towards the new couple was not how you'd hope a best friend would react. My heart still broke a little for Konnor & I look forward to reading his story next. Overall a great YA m/m that I would happily recommend.
Refreshing read
It could have been a five start, but I think I was waiting for something. I can't even explain it as I loved the fact that it was not boy meets boy, boy ravages boy then angst.
I try to shy away from books where the main characters are teenagers, but for some reason i did not really think about the age.
Really all I can say is if you want to read about thoughts and feelings and relations without gratuitous amounts of sex then this is for you.
I really liked the writing style, and Lachlan, in particular, was really sweet and wise beyond his years. However, I struggled with the build-up of the insta-love between Lachlan, who doesn't have any real relationship experience, and Cormag, who has been burnt badly before by other partners. Also, the emphasis on virginity and the only "solution" being penetrative didn't work for me at all. Konnor was really quite scary. Otherwise, the story was a good coming of age and pansexual awakening read.
Another
Homerun. I can't wait to read the next book.
I did feel bad for Konnor but felt he was a shallow little best who has a lot of growing up to do.
As for Lachlan, I'm tickled as to how his life is going!!
***** I was gifted a copy of Decadent in exchange for an honest review *****
Well i can honestly say i loved it.... Ive never read anything by Elaine White before and although i was gifted Decadent once i'd read the blurb i knew it would be a book i would of bought and enjoyed.
Lachlan has always lived his life by the rules, following his head. Be a perfect son, work hard at school, be like his dad, date a nice girl etc etc etc a perfect cookie cutter existence never straying out of the lines of conformity.
Until one day he finds out his perfect girlfriend isn't quite so perfect after all. He decides to break some rules skipping school and getting drunk for
the first time in his life to try and numb the pain. It was also the day Lachlan meets Cormag and the pull of his heart over rules his head, the day that sets Lachlan free. Unfortunately not everyone is so pleased with Lachlan's change.
This book put me through the wringer. No sooner had i got a smile on my face or a warm feeling in my heart then Konner Lachlan's friend of 12 yrs would come along and instant anger or fear took over. I honestly didn't know what he was capable of, i had to put the book down a few times and walk away for a minute. Jealousy is an ugly emotion! but i couldn't stay away for long as i had to know what was coming next.
I'm giving Decadent 4*'s it could very easily of been 5*'s but i was confused as to where it was set UK or US. It came across to me as British but then some Americanisms crept in, so i really don't know it certainly didn't spoil or take anything away from the story. I really enjoyed it and i'm jumping straight into The Other Side Book 2 hoping i don't end up breaking my kindle throwing it in a huff because i got angry again.
My Thoughts
The focus of this book is a coming of age romance. The story starts out with Lachlan planning to propose to his girlfriend to find out that she had been cheating on him. In anger and hurt he runs to the bar to drink and forget. There he meets Cormag and his life is never the same.
I liked this story it was mainly a romance but I felt that it was so linear. All of Lachlan’s problems in the book felt like they were to small and easily resolved. Besides some really basic problems a lot doesn’t happen in this book. Most of the book time frame is only a few days. There are also a lot of characters in here. By the end I had trouble remembering who was who.
The romance on the other hand was cute. I loved that this was both of theirs first good relationship and liked how they interacted. Most of the scenes were cute but lacked the “oomph” I like in a good romance. They are a cute couple though.
I liked this book but I can’t give it more than three stars. This book could use a good editor. A lot of repetition was present and when the POV was switched it could get really confusing. This book is really short though less than 250 pages.
There is more that I wish I could say but I can’t without feeling like I am spoiling something. All I can say is this book is about two boys finding their HEA..
If you like M/M and are looking for a short quick read than you might like to pick this one up!
I was provided with an advanced copy of this book by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.
At it's heart this is a sweet coming of age romance with very likable main characters. We have 18 year old Lachlan and 20 year old Cormag meeting in a bar and instantly becoming mesmerized by each other. We also have Konner, Lachlan's best friend who is just as much a main character as Lachlan & Cormag along with a cast of other friends and family members along the way.
I wish that I could give it more than three stars however I just can't. In all honesty this is in need of a good editor. There are many things that are repeated way too many times and some confusing POV changes. I ended up skimming quite a bit due to the repeating. I don't have to be told something over and over and over.
Also, though we are told Lachlan is a senior in high school it just didn't feel like it. It came across to me more like college kids. Being an American,I've never heard of a high schooler working in a bar and though I know Europe has lower drinking ages legally drinking to me is college age not high schoolers.
There is so much more that I want to say however I refuse to give spoilers and I just cannot seem to think of how I can word anything else without spoilers. I will only reiterate that these are two very sweet boys finding their way to their own HEA.
Ok I like the direction this series is going in. This is a good book and despite some big issues I had with it, It's getting 4 stars. I am not a fan of Insta - love and this book was like lighting fast when the love interests meet. They don't say I love you overnight but they fall into a seriously committed life changing relationship overnight. The main characters are all very young and naive. This book is written like a fantasy. The dream people have of meeting the one quickly and early in life and living happily ever after. We all can agree that is the exception not the rule in real life. However this book pulls it off and you become swept up in the romance of it all. That all pure sacrificing love everyone wishes for is present in this book and takes you over. It's a little cheesy sometimes and sometimes honestly a bit unbelievable, but it works. I have moved on to the next book in the series and so far it is proving to have the same qualities.
I loved reading this book so much, it just has it all.
The characters are fantastic and touching your heart once you got the chance to learn more about them. Elaine White just creates the sweetest, cutest characters within this series, you have to love or fall for them instantly. Even the "bad guy", who is my secretly favorite in here.
Lachlan is a sweet guy who just wants to find his place in the world after graduating. What he doesn't expect is to find his possible great first love or even the man of his life on the way. His best friend Konnor wants to protect him, or so he says...but it all kind of ends in a disaster.
Will Lachlan make the right decision to find his HEA, even if he has to choose between his long time best friend or the love of his life?
You just have to read this amazing and heart warming story yourself, and you won't regret it, believe me!
"Decadent" which is Lachlan and Cormag's story is a bit confusing at first. By the time Cormag is brought into the story I was sure it was a best friends to lover story. I had my heart kinda set on Lachlan and Konner which made Lachlan and Cormag' s story fall kinda flat for me. The book was longer than necessary and a little repetitive. I also hated the fact that after 12 years of friendship Lachlan left Konner completely and utterly broken. I'm reading the rest of this series now and can hope that it only gets better from here, 2.5 stars. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Well, it's a nice writing style but I couldn't take the self pity anymore... And that like from every character. Not to mention that it started to annoy me reading for 6th time repentance about Konnors feelings regarding the relationship or Lachlans feelings towards Konnors... I dropped it at 40%, when Lachlan started to rant about Konnor for 5th time with same arguments after Konnor let us know for 4th time why he doesn't approve, when Lachlan explained his situation for 3rd time etc
I enjoyed this romance. I didn't like Konnor though. He was just odd. The next book is his so we will see what happens.
I liked how the romance was slow paced but also moved fast as they knew what they wanted and went after it.
I can't wait to read the next.
Abysmal writing. Gives insta-love a whole new rush (from straight to in love with a man in less than 10 pages).
