Two Torontonian socialites. One arranged marriage. What could go wrong?
Cecilia Friedman is a rising tech star who has no time for relationships, let alone a wife, so she isn’t sure what to think when her grandmother tells her that she has found a spouse for her.
Ingrid Gordon, one of Toronto’s most eligible bachelorettes and influencers, is known for being a flighty player and she'd rather everyone think of her that way than the vulnerable woman she really is.
When Cecilia's and Ingrid’s families suggest that they get married, each woman agrees to the arrangement for their own reasons. But as they spend more time together and begin to unravel the mysteries of each other’s lives, they both realize that there’s more to each woman than they expected.
Can Cecilia and Ingrid find a love connection, or is a love story as impossible as it seems?

✨ ARC Review – impossible match by rochelle wolf ✨ this book was such a fun little surprise!! short, sweet and js what you want out of a fun lil read!! i definitely wouldn’t have minded if it had been longer but mostly because i just wanted to hang out with these characters more (seriously, they’re all so distinct and have such strong personalities!! no flat side characters here!!) for such a short book, it was surprisingly easy to follow, nothing felt rushed or confusing, which honestly?? is a win like the story flows super well, and even with the limited page count, you get just enough time to really care about what’s happening. also: the ending was CLOSED!! hallelujah. no cliffhangers or weird open vibes. just satisfaction. and okay. the SPICE. was it the spiciest thing i’ve ever read? no. but was it GOOD?? ohhh yes. i’d have happily taken more which is kinda a me problem :,) but what we got was very well done and absolutely hit. so no complaints. if you’re looking for a quick sapphic read that’s fun, flirty, and surprisingly full of personality for its size this is a gem.!!
I, too, would do anything for Cecilia. She was so sweet 🥹 Seriously though, so many parts of this book had me giggling!! The main characters were adorable and I only wished the story was a little longer. I was also surprised when they said they loved each other so soon, but I realized I actually had no idea how much time had passed. So maybe it wasn’t that soon? Regardless, I feel like they should’ve at least gone on a few real dates before saying they loved each other. But this was a novella so I get that everything couldn’t be detailed. Overall, cute story and very likable main characters! Loved the side characters as well: Becky the assistant who kept teasing Ingrid, Bubbie the adorable and very supportive grandmother, and Henry the hilarious best friend.

This was a sweet read, and it was rather angst-free. Both Cecilia and Ingrid are likeable, and it was sweet to see them getting close. But I couldn’t fall in love with them the way I would have liked. My main issue is that I have the feeling there were no scenes where they really talked, shared, and eventually felt the intimacy or the chemistry. It was more tell than show, and to feel with the characters, I need more showing. As a consequence, them falling in love was hard for me to believe. Reading about an arranged marriage was a first for me, and I expected them to at least have a talk and establish ground rules. They kind of just get married without any communication and kept on this path during their marriage. Overall, it was a sweet, quick read with a nice premise, but the execution didn't really work for me.
You know when you just want a book to be over with—not because it’s bad, but because it’s just so boring? Well that was my experience with this audiobook (you’d think an audiobook would be easier to digest) but I dozed off at one point, and honestly, I had more fun making fun of the narrator than I did actually listening to the story.
This is a sapphic romance between Ingrid and Cecilia, both business owners in Toronto who get forced into an arranged marriage.
❤️🔥This is a slowwwww burn.❤️🔥 Which a lot of people will love, but for me, there wasn’t enough chemistry leading up to the “I love you’s” to hold my interest. They barely had any open discussions, and while there’s a lot of setup—one MC gets disowned, the other has toxic parents—none of it gets resolved or meaningfully explored.
👰🏻♀️The arranged marriage plot? Weak.👰🏻♀️ They're both in their late 20's? Early 30's? So they could've easily said no to the arranged marriage orchestrated by their parents. It's not like they needed the money - they're both rich.
🎧The narration🎧 Ingrid's voice is supposed to be a "sexy rasp," but it just sounded like someone was doing their best Batman impression. Which isn't something I want to hear when they're getting down to business. Speaking of which, this was marketed as spicy but had like 1.5 spice scenes. Maybe I’ve just built up a spice tolerance, but it barely registered.
The narrator’s delivery was very technical. She pronounced every syllable so precisely that the words never flowed—it sounded like someone ran a regular ebook through text-to-speech and called it a day.
Her voice was also weirdly… slow? Like slower than a Siri voice (and that’s saying something).
There were a lot of run-on sentences, which made the narrator run out of breath 😂It was funny to listen to, but I felt bad for her.
This wasn’t bad in any sense, but it didn’t hold my interest. I heaved a great big sigh of relief when it was over, actually... And that’s how I know a book isn’t for me. 🤣
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ALC. All thoughts are my own.
I was very excited to start it. The blurb sounded intriguing, and I'm always up for a billionaire romance mixed with a marriage of convenience.
Unfortunately, it didn't quite work for me. While I think the writing is solid and the potential is there, the story lacked depth.
Cecilia and Ingrid have an interesting dynamic, but their chemistry doesn't feel natural because of the novel's fast pace. There's also a frustrating lack of communication between them that could have been resolved with simple conversations.
This story might have worked better as a longer book. With more space to develop the characters outside the main plot and show more of their married life, it could have been a solid five-star read.
Overall, this could be a good choice if you like short, fast-paced romance with a fake marriage. While it wasn't perfect for me, you might enjoy it yourself.
Thank you to Rochelle Wolf for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!
Impossible Match was a speedy novella that I didn’t like , love nor hate . It came and went before I could form an opinion — which was expected because the audiobook was only 3 hours long .Sometimes authors are successful in packing a lot into a short narrative but it felt compressed here . Perhaps I would have had more to say , had there been more breathing room for certain elements but this is all i’ve got.
Impossible Match had a great premise - sapphic arranged marriage meets billionaire romance - and it was a sweet, mostly angst-free read. I liked both Cecilia and Ingrid, and there were definitely cute moments between them. But for me, there just wasn’t enough depth or chemistry to really buy into the love story. It’s a slow burn, but instead of building tension, it often felt like more “tell” than “show.” The two barely have open conversations, and while there’s setup for some interesting backstories (Cecilia being disowned, Ingrid’s toxic family), none of it is really explored or resolved. The arranged marriage element also felt weak — they’re both wealthy adults who could have just said no, so the stakes never landed.
I listened to the audiobook, and while the narration was clear, the pacing felt slow and overly precise, which didn’t help the story feel more engaging.
Overall, it’s a quick, easy read with fun tropes and plenty of queer rep, but I wish it had been longer and given more time for character development, emotional connection, and payoff.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Aurora Inkwell Media for a copy of this audiobook. ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
maybe this just wasn't for me. the cover is gorgeous & i love a good billionaire & arranged marriage trope, bonus points for being sapphic. the writing felt underdeveloped, the narrator's voice was so monotonous (and also not? like she demonstrates her range but chooses against it at the most important points), and i felt more like we were trying to reach a word count rather than building a genuine romance between two gorgeous, successful women. i was so bored & i tried so so hard not to be. i listened up to 2.25x & still, i felt nothing. unfortunate dnf at 42%
thank you netgalley for this ARC! i think i’m gonna go w a 3.5. novellas are hard bc there’s so much to fit into so little but i really loved these two especially in the second half. once they finally showed their feelings they were sooo beautiful together
Impossible Match by Rochelle Wolf is the fourth novella I have read by this author. In all honesty, this author's work has been hit or miss for me. This one is on par with Room for Two by my rating standards; these are the two I have liked most so far. I like the premise, as I haven't read many arranged marriage stories, and I like the main characters' personalities. I agree with other reviewers in that I would have liked to see more communication between Ingrid and Cecelia. They are not forced into this marriage of convenience, even though it is arranged by their families. They agreed to it, so I think they would have spoken before actually getting married. I appreciate that they are both strong, successful, business-minded women, yet they also have their vulnerable sides. I would like to see more of their complexity explored. I feel like they have chemistry, but I don't think we get to see enough of it on the page. Impossible Match is a quick, fun read with a happily ever after that left me with a good feeling. I enjoy the low-angst romance in between longer novels. I will continue to pick up books by Rochelle Wolf for a sweet palate cleanser. I give this one a 3.5, rounded up. #toronto #canada #arrangedmarriage #sapphicromance #forcedproximity #oppositesattract #billionaireromance #marriageofconvenience #celebrity #mutualmasturbation #Jewishrep #HEA #epilogue I received a free ARC from the author. This is my honest opinion.
Impossible match by Rochelle Wolf Release date: Aug 14th 2025 ARC from Aurora Inkwell Media -I haven’t read a lot of arranged romance especially sapphic so I’m INTRIGUED -I love that she’s a boss period queen , I love her grandparents -lovee the grandparent match making 😂🫶🏾 -love the narrator’s voice and tone -they are giving grumpy x sunshine -the forced proximity and the tension ouff -you can cut the tension with a knife -love the canadian rep they toronto girlies 🇨🇦 -also can we take a moment for the cover 😍 the tattoo sleeve, the touch 🥰 -Ingrid’s raspy voice 😩 -they have me giddy -this was a really cute read rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐.5
Thank you to Netgalley for the audio of this. I don't think I realised this was a novella, but it was a perfect amount of slice of life for the story that it is. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It was quick, had a few sexy moments, and has a trope I like, but don't read enough of. A quick and easy, entertaining read.
The whole thing with an arranged marriage put me off from the beginning and when the narrator was not good I really struggled with this book. Also the story was so short that the romance never got me hooked.
I received a free ALC via NetGalley and leave a review voluntarily.
Impossible Match is an arranged marriage billionaire romance and while the story had elements that I enjoyed, ultimately at 115 pages, I think there was just not enough space to get to know the characters, leaving aspects of the characterization and relationship feeling underdeveloped.
I wanted to love this! Bi4bi contemporary instalove, arranged marriage, short and horny!
However, this really didn't feel to have any depth or chemistry between the leads. Two extremely wealthy women, a couple outings together, boom love and a horny scene or two. End of book.
The narration was also unfortunate with one of the voices feeling so robotic and unnatural for one of the heroines.
I went into this book with high expectations and I'm a little bit sad to say that it didn't quite live up to my expectations. This is a very short book just a little over 100 pages and I think that's mostly why it did not live up to my expectations. I truly believe this book would have been better if it was maybe 100-150 pages longer because it felt very rushed at moments. Which resulted in the fact that I felt like I didn't really get to know enough about the characters before we basically got to the end of the book. I really did love Cecilia and Ingrid together, they were so cute, but like I said I would have liked to see more of them separately because that would make the story deeper. For example, more about how Cecilia got disowned by her parents and Ingrid's complex relationship to her parents.
Overall it was a great book with great characters. It's extremely fast paced and has some amazing tropes to it, so if you want a short quick little sapphic arranged marriage and billionaire romance to read then this is perfect for you. But as I said I personally would have liked it even more if it was longer. There are also a lot of queer characters in it which is always amazing!
Big thank you to Rochelle Wolf for sending me an early copy (eARC) of your new book! <3
I received an ALC of Impossible Match (releasing August 14th) from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
**Please consider when reading this review that I listen to audiobooks sped up, this one I listened to at 1.75x speed.**
I did like the concept of this book, I consider myself a big fan of most things taboo and what fun we can have with an arranged marriage? There was never really a point in this book that hooked me and I did feel a little bit disappointed about this. I do think there was some “cringe” for me I could not get over during a spicy scene and it ruined some of the narration overall for me. I am quite pale and I have a tell - bright red ears…I did not in fact feel those bad boys heat at all. I feel fairly confident saying that if I read a physical copy of this, I would have enjoyed it a little more.
The premise of this quick read novella is an arranged marriage between an entrepreneur and an heiress through their parents. I've seen this type of story before. This read was super low angst and a HEA. Personally, I wanted to see more evolving of feelings between the 2 FMCs. Since the book is slightly over 100 pages, the story progresses quickly but doesn't let you become invested in the characters enough or their budding instalove. I would want to see the grand gestures and the feelings grow with time and interaction. If you're looking for a quick sweet hit, this book delivers. 3 ⭐️ 2 🌶
I was given an advanced copy for an honest review.
This was a quick read, and while the writing was solid and the cover absolutely gorgeous, it didn’t quite deliver what I was hoping for. The premise immediately drew me in and showed so much potential, but the story ultimately felt incomplete. I found myself wanting more, deeper character development and stronger communication between them. That said, I really appreciated the Canadian representation. It’s always great to see that included. This worked well as a light palate cleanser between heavier reads, but overall, it didn’t quite hit the mark for me.
did this need more development? sure. would I also immediately be in love with my fiancée if I were in an arranged marriage with her? also yes! no notes!
The premise for this short novel interested me and that is probably my main complaint. The shortness, not the premise. I like what the author has done but I would like if the author had done more. I’m not quite sure why the arrangement was agreed to….. I would have liked a bit more, seen a bit more of the mains lives. I enjoyed what the author did share.
Thank you so much to Aurora Inkwell Media and NetGalley for this ARC.
I listened to this on audio and had a pretty good time with it! I really enjoyed August Roy's voice, she spoke clearly and enunciated each word so the story was incredibly easy to understand. In the beginning I did find her narration a bit flat and monotone, but as the story built she began to inject more passion and emotion into it, which I felt was a really good parallel for the growing feelings between our two main characters. August Roy also did a fantastic job making unique voices for Ingrid, Cecilia, and Becky, and she's one of the few audiobook narrators who I feel does a convincing male voice.
Cecilia and Ingrid were such fun, dynamic characters, and I particularly loved Ingrid for her "ice queen" persona that she tried to portray for the first half of the story. Watching her melt was super enjoyable as she fell head over heels for Cecilia. Cecilia, likewise, was so sweet and incredibly grounded considering she was meant to be a rich socialite. I will say I found myself wishing we saw more of how their feelings developed, but that could be because this is a relatively short novel and obviously Rochelle Wolf, the author, didn't feel the need to pack in a lot of character building. The character building that was there WAS incredibly effective, I just wanted more! I really enjoyed spending time with these two characters and would've loved to see more of them falling for each other.
I will say some of the sex scenes felt a little awkward to me - like Wolf is still developing their voice when it comes to writing intimacy. They weren't bad at all, just sometimes a phrase wouldn't land right, or a character would try to be sexy and it would fall a little flat. What I will praise is the evident care and tenderness between Ingrid and Cecilia. Even when their relationship was just developing, they very clearly wanted what was best for each other, despite the arranged marriage. Also, weirdly enough, the arranged marriage/marriage of convenience plot worked really, really well for this story! It's not a trope I usually enjoy so I was pleasantly surprised that Impossible Match did it so effectively.
I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to seeing what Rochelle Wolf writes in future!
I was so excited when I saw I was approved to ARC read this book, and then also later approved for the ALC on NetGalley!
💖 It has tropes I haven’t read (or read much of) before: sapphic billionaire arranged marriage set in Toronto. I don’t (usually) read billionaire romances or arranged marriage romances, but make it sapphic, throw in found family and you have my attention!
📖 I started the book thinking: who are these people, why an arranged marriage, where are we going from here??? Rochelle Wolf writes brilliant characters - I enjoyed their collection of sapphic novellas, Lavender Love Stories - and again I was drawn to the FMCs, why they do what they do, and their character development. Both FMCs start at different places, and it was fun watching them grow closer as the story progressed. It was also fun seeing characters from their other stories make a cameo in Impossible Match! But also, while revisiting Lavender Love Songs I saw Ingrid very briefly in there 👀 love when there are these little connections!
🎧 The audiobook is also fab - August G. Roy narrates it, I love all the different voices she does for all the different characters. It really brings the story to life!
eh. I REALLY need to start reading synopses of books I request on netgalley and not just automatically requesting it because it's queer. this is definitely not my type of book which is why I'm gonna refrain from giving a star rating.
the reason it's not my type of book? it's not the sapphic or the arranged marriage or the novella or the fake romance to real, no it's the BILLIONAIRES.
WHY ARE WE STILL WRITING AND READING BOOKS ABOUT BILLIONAIRES?!
now I have literally no excuse because the fact that it's a billionaire romance is in the summary but I'm still mad about it. I'm gonna say this with my whole chest, BILLIONAIRES ARE NOT YOUR FRIEND. they aren't realistic, they aren't good people, and there is no level of romanticizing a billionaire that I will ever be able to get behind.
what I don't understand is why authors don't just make their characters millionaires. it's much more reasonable and I could maybe support that. but billionaire? nah.
anyway, I also didn't like the characters or their romance so I guess this loss is on me. in my opinion, save your time and skip this one.
I did something unusual with this ARC and turned it into an immersive read. I don’t visualize well so I found it really helped me with setting the scene. Kind of important for a scenario that’s pretty foreign to a regular middle-class girl lol.
I found myself rooting for Cecilia and Ingrid pretty early in the story. Especially Ingrid as I am also pretty outwardly reserved. Arranged marriages are fascinating to me, and even more so when they turn into deep love. The sapphic nature of it made it even more interesting. Unrelated: I love how the norm for this universe is people with they/them pronouns and anything else was out of the ordinary. Perfection as well as realistic given the sheer number of creative side characters.
I received a copy of this book directly from the author via Threads (and the audiobook from NetGalley) and this is my honest review. 4.25 stars; the angst was almost non-existent and I needed that.
3.5 stars rounded up I absolutely adored Cecilia—she was so sweet 🥹—and the story had me giggling quite a bit. The main characters were adorable, and I wish it was longer. I was surprised by how quickly they said they loved each other, but maybe I just didn’t realize how much time had passed. Still, I’d have liked to see them go on a few real dates first. The side characters, like Becky, Bubbie (which made me so happy as someone who grew up with one), and Henry, were fantastic and added warmth to the story. It’s a sweet, angst-free read with charming characters, but I felt like the story relied more on telling than showing their intimacy and chemistry. Since it involved an arranged marriage, I expected more meaningful conversations and ground rules, but they married quickly without much communication. Overall, a cute, quick read with a lovely premise, but I wish I’d felt more connected to their relationship.
My best friend received this as an ARC from NetGalley and we listened to it while on a road trip.
I really enjoyed this book. I went into it without any expectations and just enjoyed it. Ingrid and Cecilia were fun characters and watching them slowly fall for one another was sweet. They had this kind of dynamic that grew on you and by the end of the book they were so obviously in love.
Including Cecilia's bubbe in this was a nice touch and how she differed from Ingrid's emotionally distant parents was a good parallel. Becky was a fun and enjoyable character who enjoyed watching Ingrid melt for her new wife.
The epilogue was a look into their future a year later and seeing that they were going strong and still so in love was a nice ending.
A nice sapphic arranged marriage tale. For a short novella, this reads like a modern fairy tale of two ridiculously rich women agreeing to be married for no real reason, getting to know each other, enjoying their riches, and falling in love for real. There's no drama in this, just understandable awkwardness of two strangers getting married. I enjoyed this despite the simplicity. The spicy scene was good, it was fun to see the ladies put on fancy dresses and go to galas, be served by a chef, and was all around a nice escape read.
This book had its moments (ie spicy scenes and character depth) but overall I felt kind of lackluster about this book. There wasn’t really anything tying the characters together chemistry wise except sexually which is fine, I just like a little more depth. I feel like this book would have been better for me if it wasn’t a novella, but it’s not a bad book by any means. And LOOK AT THAT COVER 🥵
