Pros: Well-crafted characters Fast-paced action thriller No slow parts
Cons: This is the 10th book inn the Acton series, so there are many references to previous adventures. Also, for any backstory to the main characters, I recommend starting this series from the beginning.
J. Robert Kennedy continues to keep me reading this series, how, because it is truly too good to stop! Amazon Burning is a story that not only offers an exciting read but also makes me think of how I prejudge people and things. I never take the time or effort to question and think of how my opinions could change if I did this.
As always it was good to read more about the characters in this series and the troubles that come to them. How they are always come to help no matter how dangerous and life threatening it can be. It makes me wish and maybe hope that there are people like them out there in real life that help to protect us today.
I look forward to reading the next book in line of the James Acton series.
Wow, what an amazing reading experience! I gave the last review only 3 stars and mentioned maybe Kennedy was running out of material, but he certainly redeemed himself in this book! I read it in 2 nights, the only reason I stopped was to get some sleep and work, but once caught up and well over half way through, I could not wait to finish! I admit, I am partial to jungle adventures because there is so much to contend with, such as Mother Nature, local militia, not to mention local inhabitants, and Kennedy used all 3 and added more on this jungle adventure, as only could happen to Acton and Palmer, or would it be just The Acton's, now? I don't think that would work, but I hate it that I questioned J. Robert Kennedy running low on material because this book would make a great blockbuster movie, along with half of the other Acton adventures, so thanks for a great book, and another night of lost sleep, because when reading most of the Acton books, I tend to lose sleep, but get to enjoy a great read instead. Keep them coming, and for the next Acton adventure, batters up because I can't wait to get started. I can get plenty of sleep when I'm dead.
I was never really a fan of this series, I am on book ten already, but the series, was always some kind of short book between really good and thick ones.... However this all changed on this book... Yes it's pretty much the same, but with some changes that were crucial to my reading. The characters are more developed and I even laughed some, I got sad with a death!! Adventure, action, romance and a little bit of comedy, definitely the author's best work and of course now I am.gping to read the next one on the really good line of books.
James Acton and Laura Palmer seem to find trouble wherever they go, and the Amazon jungle is no exception. AMAZON BURNING provides a little different background from their usual archaeological expeditions, but there they are, complete with their usual Delta Force back-up. The only problem with this one is that there are a couple of loose ends--the fate of Dr. Chen and Steven Ling, his second in command.
An exciting page turner from start to finish - The reader never knows what to expect next. I love stories about the Amazon - the tribes who lived and still live there. Incidentally, I also love James and Laura! In many ways, this story can be frightening when we think of the sick possibilities of greedy people and what they will do to achieve their own aims - murder coming into play far too often. It's good to read a story than doesn't allow them to continue their "genocide for dollars".
I've been to the rich jungle of the Amazand picked up this book specifically to read about the Amazon jungle. While the story did indeed take place in the Amazon jungle, there was only the barest description of the setting which defeated the purpose for me. The story was only to-do and did too much jumping around.
What should have been a quiet cruise in S. America turns into an environmental battle. James's wife gets kidnapped by a native and her rescue sparks off a fight to preserve their traditional lifestyle and protect them from Chinese greed. Good fun action story that I just had to keep reading!
Loved every page of it. It was hard to put down . I fell in love with Tuk and was as proud of him as his own mother was. I'm gradually getting through all the Names Acton books and can't?ask to start the next which will be as sOon as I finish this. I'm also hoping there will be more Templar Detective books. I've read all all of them three times.
After the first paragraph I almost decided to not read this book. I thought it was going to be a sci-fi book which I don’t really like. I’m so glad I kept reading. The story was great, the characters good, and it ended up being a wonderful book.
I've been reading a long time now and have developed a list of favorite authors. Read my 1st JRKennedy book several months back and his books never disappoint. Strong, well-developed characters, excellent plots. Thanks.
I had only read Acton #1 before this, and am more than pleased with the quality of this story. Read it all in one day - could not put it down. I'll be reading this entire series and checking out his others.
I really enjoyed reading this book and the plot of the story was captivating. The characters were outstanding and the geography was described very nicely. I liked the time spent describing the native tribes of the Amazon.
Book 10 was a fun read and had a few errors throughout. This book was a bit farfetched and kind of slow in the build up. The overall seemed rushed and jumped around a lot and was predictable at times. I look forward to book 11.
Acton and Laura were amazing getting into trouble again. This story is so close to what is clearly happening in our world. A fantastic read and looking forward to getting to the next book.
one of my favourite books!! the setting being a natural and protected land, reading about the Amazon was both engaging and fascinating. to know there are still tribes who live as they did millions of years ago. I found the story light and enticing with the physical scenes not so brutal, more natural and believing. I did miss the Delta team but I do think they were involved enough in the story not to turn it all into a war zone again. nice to see Kane is still involved and Milton and readings involvement/friendship is still being tested, however time to bring back readings old side kick Martin. I love how the love story has developed between Acton and Palmer and found their journey and memory making more believable. I was gutted with Kintis ending and wished he'd written her ending differently, however she did become a bit of a heroine in the end. I lived This ending and how he became a warrior, reading his thought process and see his confidence grow.
