Stolen Crowns #3

Tower of Tempest: A Steamy Fantasy Romance

Rate this book
I might be sheltered, but I’m smart enough to know that I can’t fall for the playboy prince—or his charms.

I’ve spent my life locked in a tower with nothing but books and my gran to keep me company. Until the day she disappears. Despite Gran’s warnings about never leaving, I’ve finally discovered a way out, and I’m going to find her.

At least that’s the plan. Until some idiot decides to rescue me. Instead, he almost gets us both killed. Worse, I discover he’s Lochlan Aster, the famous playboy prince, one of the most eligible bachelors on the continent and a shameless flirt.

I don’t trust him, but his offer to help find my gran is too tempting. I know nothing about this magical—and dangerous—world around me, nothing about myself. As Lochlan and I work together, pieces of my past click together, and I learn more about who put me in that tower—and why. Yet the biggest danger might be the prince’s reason for helping me—a secret that won’t just break the trust I’m finally learning to build, but my heart along with it.

Tower of Tempest is book three in Stolen Crowns, a series of steamy standalone but interconnected fairytale retellings. This Rapunzel meets Anastasia retelling is perfect for fans of banter, (very) snarky heroines, and slow-burn romance.

Being an ARC reader for Tee Harlowe is always a delight, and I was overjoyed to be chosen again, this time for the third book in her Stolen Crowns series, Tower of Tempest. Tee has quickly become an author I would read a recipe from, and that has stayed the same after reading, or better yet, devouring Tower of Tempest.

Tee just knows how to concoct a perfect story for us; a fairytale retelling, full of angst, love, perfect banter, and a copious dose of the best side character ever, our beloved Driscoll. Driscoll is a character who manages to light even the darkest of moods; his insisting on guessing Leoni's fantasy got me rolling over from laughter time and time again. He is a perfect addition, and I cannot imagine a world without Driscoll in it.

And we haven't even gotten to the main characters, a playboy prince and a girl locked in a secluded tower. Loch and Poppy made the most precious, cutest couple ever, and I loved reading about them. From the moment Loch burst into her tower trying to rescue her, it was a rollercoaster of emotions.

I absolutely adored Poppy's character. Her strength and resilience, her kindness and joy, were such a gift. Even though she lived her life locked in a tower, she wasn't defeated by it; if anything, it made her stronger. I loved witnessing her journey on the road to self-discovery, learning who she really was and why she was in the tower in the first place. We learned so much more about lore and history, about the Seven Saints, and I really appreciated that. This emphasis on self-discovery and resilience inspired hope and a sense of empowerment in me.

And Loch, he was perfect. A playboy prince with so much more to offer than looks and charm. Tee has really shown us his vulnerable side and why he acts the way he does, and it was beautiful to see Poppy being the catalyst for the change in Loch and his walls crumbling down. This deep dive into Loch's character made me feel even more invested and connected to the story.

We were gifted with a beautiful story of love and self-acceptance, true friendships, laughter and banter; a true Disney for adults. I feel incredibly lucky to have been part of Tee's team, and I am eagerly anticipating what is to come next and what exciting adventures await Driscoll and Leoni in their next journey.

***4.5/5 Stars***

Tower of Tempest was an adult romance retelling of Rapunzel mixed with Anastasia!  If you adore adventure, found family, Disney meets romantasy, and some steam, then definitely add this one to your tbr!  And while this can be read as a standalone, I can’t recommend reading the previous books in this series enough!
You couldn’t help but want to be around him just to bask in his light, that some of it might guide you out of your own darkness.

Poppy was a winged heroine who lived an extremely sheltered life.  She had spent her life in a tower with her Gran.  And if you have read the previous books, you’ll know that Gran having shadow magic was a huge red flag.  While Gran may have loved her, there had to be more to the story.  Of why Poppy was hidden away and Gran’s backstory.  As the story unfolded, I loved trying to put the clues together to figure it out!
“Loch,” I whispered, his face so close to mine, “thank you for coming for me.”
“I’ll always come for you,” he said. “Haven’t you learned that by now?”

Lochlan Aster, the cinnamon roll playboy prince, had been dreaming of a woman trapped in a tower.  When he finally came across that tower, I loved how his rescue of Poppy played out.  I was laughing and smiling so much!  Yet Poppy didn’t make Loch’s life easy.  She was unsure of who she could trust, whereas Loch was used to women falling at his feet.  He was so sure of himself, and I loved that Poppy made him work for it every step of the way!
“I think I might want to do that again,” I said. “At some point, I’m pretty sure I saw actual stars.”
“Give me a minute.” I felt his mouth curve into a smile against my head. “And I’ll show you every damn constellation in the sky.”

Poppy and Loch were absolutely adorable together.  They were a sunshine x sunshine, and their banter was so much fun!  Yet Poppy’s lack of trust made me struggle with her from time to time.  Granted I grew attached to Loch in the last book, and I wanted Poppy to see all that I saw.  Watching their friendship grow was heartwarming.  And the carriage scene was one of my favorite moments in this story!  Rounding out this story were Driscoll and Leoni and I am keeping my fingers crossed that Driscoll gets his own story!  I love him so much!
Driscoll’s eyes widened. “Plot twist.”

Tower of Tempest painted a beautiful story that was so effortless to follow and enjoy.   I loved how elements of the original tales were twisted into this tale.  It made it exciting and fun!  And while a few of my guesses were correct, it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story.  So, if you’re looking for a retelling story that you can fly through while smiling and laughing, definitely give this book and series a try.  I can’t wait to see what happens next, and I have all the guesses for who it’ll be!

I. Am. OBSESSED.
ABSOLUTELY AND POSITIVELY OBSESSED.
I adored the first two books of this interconnected series, but this third one?! THIS THIRD ONE?! Incredible. Amazing. I finished it in literally 10 hours.
I took my kindle to the gym to read my ARC copy while I walked 3 miles on the treadmill.
I’m used the GYM as an excuse to read without my children interrupting me.
The banter in this book is awesome. Poppy is smart as a whip, and kind as all get out.
Lochlan is selfless and kind and funny and a fixer, who is always avoiding conflict. But from the second Poppy enters his dreams, he begins to grow. He starts to fight for what he wants, even if he doesn’t realize it. He puts Poppy first and shows her how incredibly amazing she is, even before he realizes his feelings for her.
Their love story is so gosh darned sweet I can hardly handle it, it gives me cute aggression and I want to SQUEAL about it and squeeze something.

“You are worthy. You are deserving. Don’t you get it? You were never meant to be trapped in a cage. You were always meant to fly.”

The LOVE these two have for each other is so selfless and amazing.
Add to it that they’re both absolute smart asses? Awesome.

We also get the our two other favorite bickering smart asses, Driscoll and Leoni, and their comedic relief, and wisdom, is a great addition to the story.

Can’t say enough good things about this spicy rapunzel reimagining. I can’t wait for the book to be officially published so everyone else can join me in this elated feeling! (Despite the obvious impending doom of the overall story arc.)

5 out of 5, my friends.

✨Tower of Tempest✨

Tee has never failed me; always giving us readers a story that’ll live in our hearts for all time. And she does so again in this Tangled-esque with Anastasia vibes retelling of Rapunzel.

Once again, we find ourselves in Arathia but this time we are following Prince Lochlan as he endeavors on a mission to find the woman trapped in a tower who is haunting his dreams… and not to mention, his shadow. Our favorite companions are back, Driscoll and Leoni, trekking and bantering alongside Loch and they are as hilarious as ever. I laughed the entire read.

As Loch meets Poppy, whose gran has just been kidnapped by shadows, we get to journey with them as they race against lies, hidden identities, and a ticking time clock. And it’s not just the playboy prince’s life at stake… but his heart. The one he swore he would never give away.

TOT is such a fun and witty Romantasy. Stakes aren’t as high as some books but I enjoy that- getting to just be with the characters. Some tropes you may find are one bathtub, shadow granny, golden retriever MMC, brave FMC with wings, found family, forced proximity, fated from dreams, plot twists, hidden identities, spice 2/5, moderate language, world building and lore, elemental magic, an open ending, and a carriage scene.

I am so thankful to be a part of Tee’s hype team and be gifted this arc. I never tire of her stories or Driscoll. 😂

Ever since I stumbled across the first book of Tee’s Stolen Crown series I was hooked! So when I saw a chance to sign up for an ARC of Tower of Tempest I was on it! Once I downloaded it to my kindle I couldn’t put it down. You will absolutely adore Poppy. I love all the banter with her and Loch, and the parts that make you blush and cross your legs🤭 I literally had my jaw drop at some points. I’m already itching to read the next book in the series!!

Book 3 in the Stolen Crowns series tells the story of Poppy, a mysterious girl in the tower that haunts Prince Lochland's dreams.
Alongside the hilarious Driscoll and Leoni, the trio embark on an adventure to find the mystery girl in the tower, only she's not quite the damsel they expected.
It's a fun enemy to lover romance with lots of banter, and I loved the Rapunzel / Anastasia fairytale vibes, it was so enchanting.
It's a standalone fantasy romance but the story links together with an intriguing backstory linking to the mysterious shadow court and the threats they all face.
Highly recommend this entire series, the fairytale vibes are perfect, there's a great range of lovable characters, and each book is a captivating journey! ❤️ And I absolutely love the gorgeous covers!

✨"I thought maybe it was my turn to rescue you"

✨"All I care about is making sure Poppy is safe. Because that is everything. She is everything"

✨"Care doesn't even begin to cover what I feel for you... My life didn't have meaning until the night you came into my dreams"

✨"I don't just desire you, I need you like I need air"

✨"We should start a matchmaking business. We've played a pivotal role in three unlikely romances"

Perfection. I was not sure how Tee would top Mirror of Malice, Spindle of Fire and Ship of Shadows, but SHE DID IT! This was an incredible story of a journey that she was able to amazingly tie in all the little details at the end… and still leave us hanging on dying for the next story. I LOVED that this book included so much more history of the seven Spirits and am honestly blown away at what was revealed regarding them and the Shadow court. I absolutely fell in love with Poppy. At first you don’t quite get just how strong and fierce of a character she is… but that becomes VERY apparent. Absolutely loved her and Loch together. Driscoll, AGAIN, stole the show and remains my favorite character. His trying to figure out Leoni’s fantasy had me dying laughing every single time. I love where Tee left Driscoll & Leoni’s story at the very end of the book as well. Overall - I was just blown away by the story. Tee is a mastermind in how she has weaved her own world and these seven, all powerful, Spirits with bits and pieces of classic fairytales!

I absolutely CANNOT wait to continue the story!

I. Am. SCREAMING.

So good. Amazing. Incredible. Loved every single minute of it. I gave the first 2 books glowing 5 star reviews and this one was even better! The MCs of book 3 of The Stolen Crowns series is completely different, no morally grey MMC - instead Prince Lochlan is the perfect sunshine cinnamon roll!

I loved the journey of self discovery that both Lochlan and Poppy went on to find themselves outside of their families before finding themselves together. Their love story truly blossomed out of friendship and I honestly could’ve read 1000 more pages of their adventures.

Plus, Leoni and Driscoll?!? I could read another 1000 pages of just their banter. Their bickering is getting out of hand and I am LIVING for it.

Seriously, stop what you’re doing and read this series.

Book 3 of the Stolen Crowns Series- ARC REVIEW

Spice Level: 2

Tropes:
playboy MMC
friends to lovers
slow burn
one tub

Tee Harlowe's third book in the Stolen Crowns series is another great example of Storytale retellings. This time we have Rapunzel/ Anastasia/ Rumplestiltskin vibes- and who doesn't love either of those?

We left off in Book 2 with Prince Lochlan searching for the mystery girl of his dreams. We pick up in book 3 with Lochlan, Driscoll, and Leoni quickly finding Poppy, the woman trapped in a tower by/with her Gran- who, by the way, has been kidnapped by the Shadows.

I'm going to go ahead and say it- Discoll's banter is the funniest. I need him to get his own book- in his words "I'm starting to think I'm more of a sidekick, you know? Here to provide the entertainment and wit." Well, give that man his own Prince Charming!

Loch, Poppy, and company then take a side mission from searching for Loch's shadow over at the Shadow court, to help Poppy rescue her Gran. What they discover are secrets and half-truths that Gran has given to Poppy. Resulting in Poppy not only questioning everything, but also accidentally discovering her life may be a reflection of that of Anastasia (the cartoon version).

Loch and Poppy definitely have the slow burn going on- and I wanted more of that carriage scene (I mean, doesn't all the epic love scenes happen in carriages now?).

We've ended on a note of more questions than answers this time around and My Specific Question is, When is Book 4 coming out?

This was my first book to read by Tee Harlowe and I thouroughly enjoyed this fairy tell retelling! This is book 3 in a series of standalones and I am definitely going to go back and read the first two books + continue as there are more to come!

This book is a loose retelling of repunzel and Anastasia and was such a fun read! The banter in this one had me laughing out loud, the cast of characters had such a fun dynamic. And the bathtub scene 🤭 IYKYK 😂

The MMC is a playboy prince with definite Flynn Ryder vibes (though missing the career in thievery). I loved watching him fall for the FMC despite his insistence that he will never settle down. However, he has a deeper side and really enjoyed the many layers of his character. The FMC is likable and I loved her curiosity of the world around her as she had spent her life in a tower. She was well educated and her secluded life didn’t cause her to be totally clueless. I loved watching her come into her own and gain her self worth.

This was a great fairytale retelling and such a fun read! I couldn’t put it down once I started 💕

I was so excited to read an eARC of Tower of Tempest. I have read the first 3 books in the Stolen Crown series and I love the world, the courts, the magic, most of all the characters. The books can be read as standalones, but if read them together you see the bigger interconnected story. The end I know is coming and it will be spectacular in true Tee fashion! If you are following the series, pay close attention as there are lots of important details to the bigger story revealed in Tower of Tempest.

Back in Arathia with Gabby’s brother Loch the playboy prince of the Water Court. He is charming yes, but also we see his vulnerability and insecurities. Loch is the peacekeeper who doesn’t like confrontation, just wants to fix everyone’s arguments.

We meet Poppy the damsel trapped in the tower. Poppy is strong and so selfless. Always thinking of everyone around her before herself. She starts out unsure of herself and her magic but with Loch and Leoni’s help she finds it and her strength. Poppy not only saves herself, but her friends. And finds out an interesting important fact about herself {no spoilers here!}

And we have my two favorite side characters; Leoni and Driscoll. Seriously, can there be two better side-kicks?! Their back and forth has me howling with laughter!

All the banter, the laughs, the gasps, the tears. I love this story! It was slow burn for sure, but so sweet when the spice hit. Loch was so caring and considerate of Poppy. He gave her time and let her make decisions. We love a MMC who lets the FMC become her own person while supporting her all the way!

Favorite quotes:
Poppy: “Him? He’s given me everything, no conditions attached, no reminders of what I owe him. He gives them freely, I trust him with my whole heart.”

Loch: “You’re my home. Where you go, I follow, remember?”

Driscoll: “Listen, I am totally Team Loppy. My nickname for you and Poppy.”

Ingredients for an absolute joy of a read: a playboy prince, a girl stuck in a tower, the best sarcastic sidekick hero, and a mystery underlying it all! 🤩

Every book in this series of standalones has been better than the last! The list of the best book boyfriends keeps growing as Tee Harlowe blesses us with these 10/10 gems 💎. Poppy & Lochlan’s story is the BEST mashup of Anastasia/Rapunzel/Sleeping Beauty with a dash of Peter Pan. These two rays of sunshine ☀️ paired with everone’s favorite sidekick and honestly secret hero of every story Driscoll (who is David Rose in my head and I’m not sorry) gives all the warm fuzzies, the girl power vibes 💪🏼, and the happily ever after…for now. I love that we are seeing this shadow mystery 🖤develop throughout the series. I cannot wait to see where this goes as we twirl and laugh our way through these magical Disney tales for grown ups! This series is fantastic and oh so pretty for the book shelf 💕

Another cozy retelling from Tee Harlowe. Love the world, the characters are growing on me and yikes that ending when you learn some mindblowing, non spoiler free and very essential knowledge about the villain of this world.

I always enjoy these kind of stories where there's both romance and plot, magic and adventure. Definitely my go to that never disappoint.

However, some parts were way too predictable and I saw them coming miles away making it less interesting. Also, I'm currently sick of all the secrets. Just stick to the truth and put your heart out there.

I fell in love with Tee Harlowe's writing when I read the first book in the Stolen Crowns series. This is book three in the series, and while you do not need to read books one & two before reading this one, you'll know the characters and how they got to the start of this book if you do.

While I did enjoy this book, I was instantly drawn in and laughed out loud, I kind of lost interest along the way. It could have been more of a me thing and just not in the mood for a fantasy book at the time, but I just didn't have the motivation to pick up and read this one like I wanted to. Yes, I did enjoy it and I liked the characters, but there was just something holding me back from it and I just don't know what it was. I am looking forward to continuing this series though because I'm exciting to see how a couple of the side characters storyline ends.

Tee is the best, and I have no other word for it!

Her writing style, her world, her characters, I dream of one day writing like her!
I'm swept away every time by the beauty of her books, by her words, and by the adventures she describes so well. She knows how to take us into her book with her.

Tower of Tempest is wonderful, and I loved every moment I spent reading it, as I do every time.

I have no other word for it. Run and read this book. It's wonderful, just like all Tee's other books.✨️

4.75 (really, really great)

This series is just so well done and I love each story a little more (and may up the ratings once I have finished), especially since each story builds up the overarching plot as well. This time it was a Rapunzel inspired tale, with a small sprinkle of Jack and the Beanstalk, but was all its own unique story. I loved the new characters and to see more growth for the few that we already knew a little. The story had so many twists and turns that while certain things I saw coming others I did not.

Once again, I cannot wait to see who comes next and how it adds to the larger story connecting all the books.

And the next book of the series is just as good if not better than the rest 🤗 in this one we get a bit more of the overarching storyline that continues through all of the books and it just got EXCITING 😱

It was fun seeing a little bit different of a MMC in this one. Even though I love a morally grey hero, I liked the playboy MMC here. We already met Loch in the previous book and I enjoyed getting to see his story through.

Poppy was fun also! She was good mix of I can do it myself and damsel in distress.

The amount of times I thought I knew what was going on and then boom, plot twist! Kept me on the edge so much! This series has me in a chokehold and I cannot wait to see what happens next!

Wow... Wow... Wow... Harlowe had me hooked with Ship of Shadows, and from there I was obsessed. Immediately read Spindle of Fire and Mirror of Malice afterwards. Like with Ship of Shadows, I had the honor of being an ARC reader for Tower of Tempest, and it did not disappoint!

In this adventure, we follow Lochlan, Driscoll, Leoni, and new character, Poppy, through the sky court. Along the way, we discover more about the shadow court's plans and its history. There were so many moments in Tower of Tempest that I loved, but my favorite has to be when Lochlan nicknames Poppy "my little bird". We're first introduced to him in Ship of Shadows as the playboy prince who would never, ever commit to a relationship... until he met Poppy. Reading about them on their journey made me feel like a big sister finally seeing her little brother truly happy, which makes sense because of all the introduced characters in the Stolen Crowns, I relate to Gabrielle (Lochlan's sister) the most. That said, of course I loved that Seraphina, Liliath, and Gabrielle make an appearance in the end to officially welcome the new princess.

Another relationship to love is the one between Driscoll and Leoni. Despite being from different courts, they have such a brother-sister relationship. Like, "Mom! He's touching me", "My finger is a whole inch away from you!" kind of vibes, but, of course, with Driscoll, he knows how to poke the kinky buttons. I'm here for it and I SO need to know how their trip is going with no one to mediate.

These books are known as romantasies, but I'll also say there's a little mystery involved: What is the shadow court up to? Where are all its people? Who is the shadow king if the previous one and his wife were presumed dead? What is his obsession with the princesses of the different courts? With every book up to this one, I asked myself those questions. In Tower of Tempest, a lot of that get's answered, and I will say I was not at all expecting the answer to one of them. I can be quite the Nancy Drew and make accurate predictions quickly, but I was as shocked as the characters themselves. Arathia better buckle up! I'm ready, front row seats for me!

Final notes... I loved that this was a duo perspective novel. I'm a big fan of Rick Riordan, who has written multi-perspective books, so I'm used to flipping the switches between characters. As an auburn haired lady, I have a soft spot for the Aster siblings, so reading from Lochlan's male perspective was a treat. It was also a nice change of pace considering that prior to this we were only reading from the princesses' points of views. Knowing that Lochlan was missing his shadow, and it was his dream of Poppy that led to this book, it made sense to see things from his view as well as Poppy's. Also, despite the fact that it does make more sense to read the novels in order, it's not necessary. Enough information is shared in each book so that you won't feel like you're missing something, and I say that from experience. I started with Ship of Shadows, which is Book 2. Then read the prequel and Book 1 because I fell in love with the story-telling and wanted to fully dive into the world of Arathia.

Im back with book 3 in the Stolen Crowns series of interconnected standalones! I loved this book and everything in it! The lead characters Poppy and Loch, the quirky friends Leone and Driscoll (oh Driscoll 😍) the hilarious banter and the increasing mystery surrounding the shadow court.

In Tower of Tempest we follow Poppy who decides to leave the safety of her tower to rescue her Gran with the "help" of playboy Prince Lochlan, guard Leoni and the ever challenging Driscoll. Along the way the saves go wrong, the plan keeps changing, and secrets and lies come to light. Who is Poppy, will they find Gran, can Driscoll find out what turns Leoni on?

⚡️ Rapunzel and Anatasia Retelling

⚡️ Slow burn

⚡️ Friends to Lovers

⚡️ All the Banter

⚡️ Elemental Magic

Again, Tee Harlowe has written a book I didn't want to put down! I love her use of banter and sarcasm to keep the conversation fresh and flowing. I love how she weaves mystery and intrigue into characters backstory and the world. I love how well she writes those spicy scenes! I will never stop loving this series, and I've reread it enough times to say this is a story you will love and come back to time and again! This is a standalone but you're going to want to read them all!!!

Tower of Tempest, book three in the Stolen Crown series by @teeharlowe 👑🗡️✨🛁

I love Tee Harlowe’s books. This one is so different than the other books in the series in the best way possible.

✨Anastasia meets Rapunzel retelling
✨Friends-to-lovers
✨Only one tub (and carriage 😉)
✨Playboy MMC
✨Sunshine meets Sunshine
✨Virgin FMC
✨Found family
✨Soooo much banter

The magic, the world building, the extension of the original storyline from books one and two…Loch…need I say more?

I loved this friends to lovers storyline. The relationship felt lighter, but the story overall felt darker and I loved the dichotomy between the two elements.

Poppy is such a sweet, innocent, yet badass sunshiny babe and I absolutely love her. And Loch is such a ray of tortured sunshine. What a pair.

If you are a fan of fairytales, then you need to add this retelling to your TBR now! It is the 3rd book in an interconnected standalone series, Stolen Crowns.

Right away, I was drawn to the story. The banter and tension in this book *chefs kiss* 😗🤌🏽 it's funny and light and perfect for romantasy lovers! There was non-stop adventure. I felt like i was watching a movie. It reminded me of Tangled, and the MMC was definitely giving Flynn vibes. The side characters were so funny I was laughing out loud. I devoured this book so quickly! I'll definitely be reading more books from this author!

One day Gran takes ill and Poppy, despite all of Gran’s previous warnings, finds her way out of the tower to find help. Poppy’s mission is cut short when Gran is abduction by a shadow. For years Poppy knew Gran was hiding from someone or something. However, Gran is the only family Poppy has ever known. She is determined to find her and bring her back home to the tower.

For months, Lochlan, the playboy prince as he’s been aptly dubbed, has had the same dream about a beautiful you woman in a tower screaming for help. Prince Lochlan’s shadow was taken from him by the shadow king, and he should retrieve it as soon as possible, but the dreams keep hounding him. Reluctant to accept the role of the hero prince, but unable to ignore the dreams, he sets off to find her. After months of searching with no avail, the Prince questions the validity of the dreams, and his own sanity. That’s when he sees the tower from his dream. And then he sees the beautiful woman.

Poppy and Lochlan, as well as their friends, go on a mission to look for Poppy’s Gran and Lochlan’s shadow. However, their journey will steer them down strange and unexpected paths, which will lead them to more than they ever imagined.

📚A Deeper Read📚
Lochlan is a people pleaser due to his childhood experiences. He’s always had to be his family’s mediator when they argued, therefore he had to learn to adapt. He became someone who could easily tune in and navigate people’s emotions, and turn them around into happier feelings. Even when he is internally suffering, he focuses on others and pleasing them. He cannot stand it when people he cares about become upset or angry at him. He avoids conflict and he deliberately becomes the playboy prince. It’s easier to not commit to someone than it is to subject himself to more people to have to please, and therein, avoid conflict against. Poppy helps Lochlan discover that constructive criticism, which may naturally lead to conflict, can achieve healthy personal growth.

Poppy’s Gran used love as something earned rather than something easily given. This causes Poppy to become a people pleaser as well, but in a different way than Lochlan. She’s not necessarily afraid of conflict, however she does suffer from feelings of deep seated unworthiness; especially unworthiness of love. Lochlan helps Poppy discover that she is worthy of freely given love.

✨Elements I Loved✨
I love the FMC, Poppy. She is strong, witty, kind, and mature. Sure, she has her moments, like we all do. But she admits she’s wrong, and she does her best to stay positive and true to herself. She is loyal, probably to a fault, but I absolutely love that about her.

I love the MMC, Lochlan. He is all swagger and confidence on the surface, but it comes from a good place. He has his own issues, yet he puts others first.

While this is a standalone, if you’ve read the author’s other works in this series, you’ll see some familiar, beloved, characters.

🪄Standout magic features🪄
I love that there is elemental magic. For example, Poppy is from the Sky Kingdom so therefore she has wings, and she has weather magic which means she can produce storms.

👩🏻My Recommendation👩🏻
If you loved the stories of Repunzel and Anastasia growing up, chances are you’ll enjoy this. However, this book is so much more. It’s an adult version that is more than just a retelling with some spice. It has substance. It is a special blend of nostalgia with a journey of healing from childhood trauma. If you’re a romantasy lover who resonates with all of these things, this book is for you.

4.75 STARS, 2 SPICE

SPICE, friends to lovers, slow burn romance, elemental magic, witty banter, fairytale retelling, reluctant hero, found family, playboy MMC, dual POV

"At some point, I'm pretty sure I saw stars."
"Give me a minute, and I'll show you every damn constellation in the sky."

Written by Tee Harlowe, Tower of Tempest is the third stand-alone book in an interconnected fairytale retelling series, The Stolen Crowns. It follows Poppy, a young woman who is trapped in a tower with her Gran, the only connection she has to the real world. When her Gran is taken, she bravely devises a plan to find her and rescue her. Poppy's first step was figuring out how to get down from the tower that kept her safe all these years. As she was planning to make her descent from the tower, Prince Lochlan Aster, a playboy Prince with a notorious reputation, appears with his two witty companions. They help her down from her tower and offer to help her find her Gran. The journey to find her is not an easy one, and not everything is as it seems.

Tower of Tempest is based on the fairytale Tangled with the main character being a cross of Rapunzel and Anastasia. The main female character, Poppy, is extremely loveable. She is caring, witty, smart, quick on her feet, strong willed, and resilient. She also brings out the best parts of Prince Lochlan Aster. Prince Lochlan, a misunderstood playboy prince, is kind, funny, strong, trustworthy, flirtatious, and dependable. Although he is devilishly handsome and beautifully sculpted, there is so much more beyond the surface with his character.

I love dual POV and first person writing, and this book had both. I was sucked into this world instantly from the first book in the series, and it was no different with this book. Once I started reading, I could not put the book down. The magic system is fun and unique. The character growth throughout this book with the main characters was beautifully done by Tee Harlowe. The side characters were also very funny and made me laugh aloud throughout the book, specifically Driscoll. The world building was great; I could picture what I was reading with ease. I love how each of the books have been connected, and I am looking forward to seeing how Tee Harlowe brings each of the characters from the previous books together. We get a sneak peek of it in the epilogue of this book, so definitely read all the way through! And the spicy scenes will make you blush! If you are a fan of fantasy retellings or romantasy, I highly recommend giving this series a try.

This is an HONEST review. Although this was an ARC read, all opinions in this review are my own. Thank you, Tee Harlowe, for providing me with the opportunity to read this book prior to its release date. I look forward to reading the next book in this series and all of your future books!

"To everyone who needs a little sunshine, Loch is for you."

"You owe me nothing. I go where you go. So if you want to run tonight, I'll run with you. You can yell, rail at me, hate me, but I won't, I can't, leave your side. Not when doing so would be like leaving a piece of myself behind."

When I finished Ship of Shadows I immediately wanted to read the next book. It was everything I hoped it would be: a great plot and story-line, fantastic world-building, an amazing and fast paced writing style and great characters. Not that I have finished that book, Tower of Tempest, I feel exactly the same way! This third book in the interconnected but standalone Stolen Crowns series is so good! It is a mash up of two fairy tales, Rapunzel and Anastasia and I think Tee Harlowe made these two tales completely her own. You can see several elements of these fairy tales, but in a whole different and amazing way.

And I just loved the characters, Driscoll especially. He is not the main character, but plays a very important role. The playboy prince and the trapped girl in the tower are just perfect for each other and I loved the banter and growing relationship between them. Both are different: Lochlan is flirty, seems to take nothing seriously, but we, readers, know what’s going on. Poppy has been living in a tower, but knows the world, thanks to her gran, who is really mysterious. When is revealed who gran really is and what has happened all those years ago, I was a bit shocked (in a good way).

The writing style is flowing, fast paced and there are lots of twist and turns in the story that made it so hard to put the book down. I did not want it to end, but at the same time I wanted it to end to see what was going on. At the end all comes together and I loved how Tee Harlowe gave a glimpse to the next book, which I will be waiting for anxiously!

Tower of Tempest is an amazing and fantastic book, with fantastic characters who just leap of the pages, with great world-building and plot, unexpected moments, banter, romance, danger, mystery and I can’t wait to read the next book in this wonderful engaging series.

Highly recommended!

“Give me a minute.” I felt his mouth curve into a smile against my head. “And I’ll show you every damn constellation in the sky.”

If you're looking for a beautifully written, light, and fluffy, steamy fantasy romance with complex characters and intricate world-building, look no further.

Tower of Tempest is book three in Tee Harlowe's Stolen Crowns series, which can be read as a stand-alone. This steamy romance follows Poppy and Loclan on their journey through the sky court.

Poppy, a sky elemental, lives with her sick Gran. Gran adopted Poppy after her parents abandoned her as an infant, raising her as her own in a secluded tower in the sky court, away from the threats and dangers Gran refuses to speak about. In the middle of the night, Poppy goes against Gran's wishes, leaving the tower to collect herbs to remedy Gran's cough. Gran's not the only one who finds Poppy in the forest, but the shadow doesn't want her. It wants Gran.

Lochlan, the playboy prince of the water court, has been dreaming of a woman trapped in a tower. Determined to find this woman, he travels to the sky court with two guards, Driscoll and Leoni. They find the tower and Poppy, who is not your stereotypical damsel in distress. Together, they travel through the sky court in search of Gran.

I love a book that leaves me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. This book hit the mark and will be living in my brain rent-free. There is something to love about each of these characters. Poppy is witty, intelligent, and strong. She is not what you'd expect from a woman raised in isolation. She learns how to trust her new friends and that she is worthy of both love and her own magic. Loch is a selfless ray of sunshine. Although he hates conflict, he learns that some things and someone in particular is worth fighting for. Driscoll is hilarious. The banter between him and Leoni was amazing.

I received an eARC in exchange for my honest review. Thank you so much, Tee Harlowe!

Review:
Tee does it again! I finished in one day because this world and the these characters are just as stunningly brought to life as her other works. This is book 3 in the Stolen Crowns series and you could read them separately but get much more context if you read the others.

In this outing we get the return of my favorite snarky side kick duo of Driscoll and Leoni (former Captain of the Guard). Honestly these two are like a stand up comedy act, they bring levity but it's never forced or silly. I literally laugh out loud with them and they complete our band of heroes on this quest so perfectly.

Speaking of heroes...we have our curly auburn haired and studly "playboy prince" Lochlan (Loch), who has visions compelling him to rescue our Repunzel-esque heroine, Poppy in a tower. They proceed on a deep journey across the lands, encounter run ins with neighboring Courts, floating glass castles, dungeons, deathly shadows, all the while working through romantic feelings they begin to feel towards one another. They unearth secrets, embrace power and destiny, and then we have some rousing action and searing tension!

We get it all folks! I feel like this is a spiritual cousin to The Princess Bride in the absolute best sense! Loch is so darn endearing, cocky and flirtatious but oozing warmth and a desire to protect those he cares for. But I loved that he has his own pain to deal with beneath the sunshine exterior. He's more than just a pretty face, but man do I enjoy that too lol.

Poppy is intrinsically quite strong to begin with but through Loch and her found family, she grows into discovering her own powers; that she is worthy, capable and will always do what is right.

Glorious elemental magic, vibrant three dimensional characters and thoughtful, lush world building as always is peak with Tee's writing. Don't miss out on this series run...or fly to them!

Gah, Tee just keeps coming with the hits! Lochlan and Poppy's story was sweet and cathartic and full of fun moments and heartbreak. There were great twists and turns in this book, some expected and some confirming previous thoughts or theories and still others complete surprises!

I loved watching Lochlan and Poppy grow and learn together. Lochlan starts out a happy-go-lucky playboy bursting with sunshine and hiding all of his shadows inside himself, but he slowly unravels as he opens up to Poppy and trusts her with his demons. I love this charming man so much! And I really just want to dig my fingers into those curls of his. 🥵 He is so sweet and kind and gentle with her from the very start, of course peppering in flirting and jokes from time to time. And I love her reaction to it all. She is distrusting of him and doesn't fall prey to his charms, and it completely throws him off. Poppy is smart and kind and distrustful of herself and others, and she questions her strength and power, and it is such a compelling journey to go along with her on. Their dynamic is sweet and healing and turns hotter as the story progresses, and I love how they complement and complete each other!

We are once again joined by our two favorite sidekicks! Driscoll and Leoni keep on delivering jokes and banter and levity to tense situations, as well as much needed insight. Driscoll continues to be my ultimate favorite character, cracking me up at every turn! I'm looking forward to more banter and jokes in the next book!

I am really looking forward to finding answers to some of my questions and discovering more about the fallen courts and the spirits. I hope to see more of the lost boys and the thieves and the pirates! I really loved all of those groups, and I hope to see them cross paths again in future books!

✨ARC REVIEW✨

☆☆☆☆☆ | 🌶️🌶️🌶️

WOW!! This was my second ARC read within the Stolen Crowns series, and I can confidently say that Tower of Tempest has secured itself as my new favorite from this series (so far 😉)

I LOVED Poppy & Loch, both individually and together. Their romance was sweet and wholesome and selfless, and we got to see them both grow and overcome their own personal struggles and truly find themselves along the way.

Poppy and Loch were a breath of fresh air in a genre so heavily doused in the tropes we know and love. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE a good enemies-to-lovers trope with a morally gray MMC, but it was nice to read something that didn’t follow the typical Romantasy formula.

The banter between all of the characters is top tier, but I’ve grown to expect that from Tee. I’ve read two of her other books and this is something I’ve noticed that she really excels at. I was constantly laughing out loud (especially at some of the nonsense Driscoll says lol) and I just generally had a warm, fuzzy feeling throughout most of the book.

That’s not to say that this story didn’t have a few dark and twisted turns though! There were definitely certain parts where I gasped out loud, cried, wanted to throw my book or to punch a certain character or two, etc, etc…

The only book I haven’t yet read from this series is Mirror of Malice (don’t worry, it’s on my list to read very soon!) but I LOVED getting to learn more about the main villain/conflict that connects all the books in this interconnected series.

This was my first five-star read in a while, and for that, I say THANK YOU, Tee!! I’ve been craving a fantastic story that scratched that itch I’ve been having, and Tower of Tempest delivered that and so much more!

Tower of Tempest releases on June 19, and I highly, highly recommend that you grab yourself a copy!! You will not be disappointed.
