Some ghosts of Christmas past can haunt the present – again…and again…and again.
On a dark December night in 1984 three teenagers committed a crime so heinous, so disturbing, they vowed to hide it and never speak of it – even to each other. But some sins refuse to lie dormant under the black waters of Harper’s Lake. And some victims refuse to remain dead.
A chilling tale sure to keep you checking the locks and burning the lamps long after the yule log dies.

Will Overby's "Moon Shadow" is taut with suspense from the beginning pages until its climatic and ultimately satisfying ending. I especially enjoyed the creeping sense of dread the novel evokes and that it keeps you guessing the whole way. I highly recommend this book to those seeking a top-notch supernatural thriller and I look forward to picking up another of his novels real soon!
I received a copy of this book as a Goodreads giveaway.
2 1/2 stars. Moon Shadow is a throwback to the supernatural horror/thrillers from the '80s. It is competently executed, with a nice, neat structure, and seems to be rather well-edited for an independently published novel -- a rare thing these days. The story involves a somewhat accidental Christmas murder and the resulting supernatural vengeance, extracted once per decade on the anniversary of the crime. While I did enjoy the read, it's a familiar story in a crowded genre. The book is essentially an EC Comics horror story strung out over 300 pages, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But when the supernatural horror does show up, it's not particularly convincing. Overby spends much of his energy building up the characters and the believable mundanity of their lives, and the payoff, in my view, doesn't quite live up to my admittedly jaded expectations. Readers who have read less extensively in the horror genre may get more mileage out of this book.
I loved this book! I won a signed copy of it from Goodreads. Mr. Overby must have shipped it out the same day I was notified because it was in my mail box four days later. Once I started this book, I literally could not put it down. If you love a great ghost story, this book is for you. I enjoyed the reference to Tulsa (I live in Claremore, which is about 25 miles north of Tulsa) and to Oklahoma State University. (Go Pokes!) I actually had the OSU football game on while I was finishing up this book. Thank you to Goodreads and Will Overby for my copy of this book. I am anxious to start looking for the other titles listed on the front page. If you are jumpy, you might have to sleep with the lights on while you are reading this. Scary fun!
