Luna Thorn #6

Sinister Séance

Rate this book
Twenty years ago teenager Bree Watson had the world at her fingertips. The only thing she was worried about was which Grimlock brother she had the biggest crush on. Then, in a moment of confusion while playing with a Ouija board, she disappeared.

Nobody knew what happened to her. Her parents were cleared of suspicion. The girls with her that night didn’t have any answers. She was just gone.
And now she’s back.

Luna Thorn knows something is very wrong with what happened. Bree went somewhere for twenty years but she came back looking the same, and claiming no time has passed. It’s a miracle…and yet Luna isn’t celebrating with everybody else.
Where did Bree go? Was she lost in time? It seems Detroit’s new traveler is on deck to figure it out. If that wasn’t enough, her mother is hanging around Grimlock Manor looking for quality time with her daughter, and she doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to leave.

Months ago, Luna’s life was simple. Now things are spiraling. The only question is, just how bad can things get? Can Luna figure out what happened to Bree before the evil that returned with her takes over the city?

You’re about to find out…as long as Luna can survive to tell the tale. Buckle up, because this story can only be solved in the past if Luna wants to keep the present safe.

When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail.
Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.

I was disappointed with this latest offering of Luna and the Grimlocks. I usually devour these books in an afternoon, laughing all the way through. I found myself lost in this book, but not in a good way. The characters were uninteresting and the snark was sadly missing. I hope this was a one off to a loved series.

First thoughts at 23%:

Book after book of this whole people just walking into Luna’s bedroom without knocking or permission needs to end. It shows a complete lack of respect or the ability to respect someone’s privacy/boundaries. Luna herself even shows her decency and consideration for others personal space by not being willing to go into Cormack desk without permission (which he himself even acknowledges), but he just wanders right into her bedroom while she’s asleep with her boyfriend and completely ignores her when she tells him not to over and over.

Then when called out, he just blames his grandchild, like oh well what are you going to do. Dude you raised five children basically by yourself, and you can’t keep one small child from barging into someone room or even knock on the door as it’s happening if you are that incompetent. That’s not charming or just the character being himself/themselves (multiple people do this repeatedly throughout the series), it’s ridiculous, rude, and disrespectful, especially for a character that supposed to be a father figure. It’s completely ugh.

Not to mention if I woke to someone just standing over me I would be terrified and loose my f’n mind, like what even is that. Luna needs to teach everyone some basic boundaries and like magically barricade her space. GTFO of my space people. Learn some basic human respect.

Rant over (for now), but honestly it’s starting to grate on me so much I couldn’t wait to finish to book before posting. lol

Anyway onto the rest of the book, which as always with this author is fun and interesting so far.

3.5 ⭐️

I know this is a clean cozy mystery romance series, so while it’s all those things I personally would prefer more of the romance aspect even if it’s clean. They don’t need to be in each others business all day everyday or in every scene together, but Jesse (MMC) and Luna (FMC) who are supposed to be the central relationship in the series are back burnered in this book so much Luna is even surprised when he shows up to “help” at the very end and he has little to no effect on the story.

It’s just a little disappointing to see the lack of working together and overall togetherness of the main characters in this series as that seemed to be much more prevalent in other series by this author.

I was really looking forward to this series in particular after meeting Luna in Izzy’s books, but it has been mostly Cormack guilting Luna into doing things she doesn’t really want to do, and then for some reason Luna feeling feeling bad about trying to set boundaries. I do usually enjoy most of the genuine father / daughter relationship dynamic that comes across most of the time, so it could be the grating of the boundary issue above that has coloured my review this time around. I could also do without all the gross references to Luna being an escort (etc) just because of her age and the way she dresses which from my understanding of what I’ve read aren’t overly revealing just not fancy.

I also wish Jesse was a more compelling confident character as he is often just there (or shows up afterwards), when in the past the MMC’s (even Griffin who has no magic) were more helpful, intelligent about the magical world, and involved in solving the mystery.

All in all a quick, cute, fun read, and the overarching storyline seems to be interesting enough to continue on to the next when it comes out. Though I do prefer this author’s writing style in her Lily Harper Hart books, especially since those are dual pov.

🤞🤞 we’ll see if the big move solves my Cormack rant above, but we’ll have to wait and see.🤞🤞

Excellent!

If you've not read the previous books in this series, please don't start with this one. You'll miss out on so much.

For those of us who are Amanda M. Lee's devoted fans, Luna, Izzy, and the Grimlocks are back and trying to solve a 20 year old mystery. All of Michigan remembers the case of the girl who mysteriously vanished from her bedroom right in front of her three shocked friends. The Grimlocks all knew her, so when she returns 20 years later, with no memory of where she's been, looking exactly as she did 20 years ago, they know it's a paranormal event. Luna suspects that something isn't right; and determined to help the girl, she begins a hunt for the truth.

The good news is that Luna can use the mystery as a distraction from her parental issues, which are numerous, infuriating, and possibly deadly.

I stumbled across the joy that is Amanda Lee 2 years ago, and I've read all her books, as well as those published by her alter ego, Lily Harper Hart. While I genuinely like all her characters and storylines; I am totally in love with the Grimlocks, Izzy Sage, and Luna Thorn! The snark, the excitement, and the storytelling are stellar, and the love, compassion, loyalty, and bravery will touch your heart. If you are a fan of funny, terrifying stories about strong, heroic women and the men who love them, I strongly recommend the books by the incredibly prolific, (and I do mean INCREDIBLY prolific, how the h*ll does she do it ?); Amanda M. Lee!

Adventures galore with Luna and her crew!

If you want a series that delivers on all levels this is it. This is a sister series that has reoccurring characters from other series. I personally love the way their series storylines and characters are incorporated into these storylines. This keeps them involved and alive for us to enjoy as their characters and relationships brow and evolve. This is a truly unique and intriguing series. I highly recommend you read them all starting with the Reaper family the Grimlocks. The storylines and characters will develop from there. Another suggestion is to read The Covenant Series it will eventually cross paths with the Grimlocks. Actually everything Ms. Lee writes is fantastic!

Turning point

I am happy things are finally progressing. This series has been dragging. So far we haven't had her set up as "the One" who has to save the world. It would be nice to break that pattern. Aisling's story didn't need it.
Like the Reapers, the Travelers are quite original, and I would love to see that exploited. The discipline required to not screw up timelines would have to have an impact on their culture. This may potentially be the most exciting concept for character development of any of Lee's series.

Very Enjoyable

This book was so much better than the last one. This book was lighter and had a lot more humor. As a result it moved along much faster than book number five and was almost as good as the forth book.
All of Amanda M. Lee's books are well written but the fight against " evil " in all it's forms gets tiresome. That's why levity and humor are so important . Luckily this book, while a little lighter on the laugh out loud moments than book 4,has enough light hearted moments to create a balanced story and a very enjoyable experience for the reader.

Loved It

I love this series. I love having the Grimlocks as Luna's surrogate family whether she wants them to be or not. This story showed us more about Luna and her background plus a suspense filled mystery she had to solve. It was funny, very snarky and sarcastic which made for even more laughing out loud moments. A fun store to add to an excellent series.

Excellent as always

Such a great writer and storyteller.
Luna and the team are unstoppable. Can't wait to see where Lunas mother ends up in all of this and her "father". He's a real jerk. How will Bree make out in the future. Such a good story and series. The Grimlocks and Luna and Jesse are all amazing. Just wait til Lily grows up. Wow, what a story that will be.

♥️♥️

Luna is finally getting comfortable in her life but she still struggles with her lack of memory. Or better to say, she is just fine with it but the magic power hitters continue to egg her on about her amnesia.
Will her lack of memory get her in a bind? Is she actually as bad as her dad? Is her mother heartless or a potential asset in her life?

Totally enjoyable

Love the Grimlock’s crazy but loving family. Luna still incredibly insecure and always doubting herself. Zina, her mother was interesting but flat. Maybe that’s how she’s supposed to be. Can’t believe I’m on book 6. Hope there is a book 7. Read on!

Really good storyline that kept me entertained. I really enjoy how the characters are evolving. Luna still is a bit of a whiner but I’m hoping that straightens out in the upcoming books.
