Dear Author, My established couple has plans to finally tie the knot and take their relationship into happily-ever-after territory. Unfortunately, life… especially a life that is a completely fabricated lie… always has a way of sneaking up on you. One of my guys is living a lie, living a life that is completely fake and, he thought, his horrid past was buried forever. Just as he is ready to believe that there is a chance for him to move on and live the fairytale, the past comes knocking on his door. And now the bright future is looking really dim.
Would you, dearest author, please run my guys through the wringer, break them down and then help them build their new life together without the lies and the fear so that they can finally, finally be happy, forever.

Taylor Law is a northern born, southern girl, with a free spirit. Taylor has lived in the southern United States most of her life, along with her huge Italian family. She started writing at a very young age; her first poem at six, her first song at seven, and stories followed directly after. She hasn’t stopped since.
A romantic clear to her soul, Taylor continues to believe the elusive ‘Happily Ever After.’ She lives in Florida where it rains regularly - yes, the sunshine state is a myth. She worked as a contract and civil litigation paralegal for fifteen years before publishing her stories. On any given day, you can usually catch her with a book in her hand or creating something.
Fuck, this is SO GOOD! Brutal and gritty and heartbreaking and full of love. This is still one of my absolute favorite DRiTC books. Read this!
Original review:
Oh em gee, seriously, I loved the fuck out of this Love's Landscapes book! My favorite to date. I love a good mystery with an amazing romance and a killer HEA. This one has it all. Highly, highly recommended!
Now I'm off to raid Taylor Law's library of works!
This story won't be for everyone. It's dark and shows some pretty graphic abuse, which some won't be able to read. There's also a chance of people getting mad at Jake for not telling Caleb the truth, and I understand that.
But this was a really good short. The relationship was amazing, really amazing. And the crime plot was good, too. I think, if I were to change anything, I would have preferred something longer and more fleshed out. The ending was nice, but I think something longer would have made it easier to love this story. But I'd also take a sequel.
Really enjoyed it and hoping to read more from this author soon.
For a short story, this packs one hell of a punch. Intense and brutal but also full of love. The two main characters had great chemistry.
I would have preferred something a bit more fleshed out as some of the scenorios were a little unrealistic. Overall though I do feel it was believable and a really good, tightly plotted, well written story.
If I could rate this story based solely on the relationship between Jake and Caleb from the beginning of the book, I would give it 5 stars. I think the author did an excellent job with the chemistry and love between the two MCs, and each stole a piece of my heart. But there's this whole gigantic piece of Jake's life that he failed to tell Caleb about, and even though I was rooting for them in the end and happy that things worked out, I'm pouting at my kindle. I think the author did a good job of the suspense in a short amount of pages, the writing was well done and it was a short, entertaining read. An epilogue would have been wonderful, as well as an explanation for I'll definitely check out other works by this author. My thanks to the author for their time and participation in this event.
When I first saw the prompt, I was quite excited. While it leans towards cliché - but come on, what plot isn't somewhat cliché nowadays? - I could definitely see myself enjoying it with some molding and good writing.
Unfortunately, this story was overly ambitious.
The beginning was too abrupt as the reader is thrust into an intense scene without first being given a chance to connect with the characters. From then onwards, the connection is never fully established.
There was also the usual problem of more tell than show, compounded by unrealistic scenarios and possibly inadequate research.
This was a power packed punch of a short story. At times I wasn't sure what to believe just like MC Caleb didn't know what was happening. I was angry, worried, appalled, repulsed.. all within one short story. This isn't going to be a book for everyone. At times, I wondered why I was reading it but, I became so invested in their relationship right from the start, that I couldn't stop reading. That's what makes a book good for me.
What a great entry into the MM Group LIAW series! A nice tightly plotted novella that draws you in completely. This one would be worthy of another 150 pages being added to completely flesh it out. It reminded me quite a bit of Aftermath in its intensity and compelling can't look away flow.
Too short, too choppy going from one brief snapshot to the next, and the characters didn't act in ways consistent with what they experienced. And, since I wasn't attached to the MCs at all, I couldn't overlook any of that. Very good premise, but would need to be stretched out a lot, made more logical, and would need better characterization for me to like it.
Oh, and this isn't dub-con, it's non-con all the way in those scenes. (Which has no effect on my rating, since I love good non-con. Just pointing it out, since it's tagged as dub-con.)
Just a shade over 4 stars contemporary crime story (read the tags first people) Caleb, a police officer, who lives with his partner Jake, is in the middle of a case involving young girls who go missing then turn up murdered. Their relationship is good, though Jake works away a great deal. One Sunday Jake starts acting strangely when they are at a farmers market, and then a couple of weeks later as Jake proposes, a woman turns up claiming to be his wife. Only things aren't as they seem and Jake is in danger, leaving Caleb to do what he can to rescue him. I read a lot of crime drama type stories and can be picky, but I really liked this one which worked well for me.
This story had me all over the place. At first I hated!! Tate. But in the end, you actually love him just as much as Caleb. Until you find out the truth about ‘Tate’, you keep thinking what is it about him…. he has a job that travels, he doesn’t have any friends(besides the one’s he shares with Caleb), no family and Caleb never met anyone from his job. Then you find out the truth and you are like Ohh… and things start to fall into place.
This was a great short story to get lost in for a while! Written for Love's Landscape it is meant to be a short story. I would love to see more from this though! The love of Jake and Caleb is very clear. The crimes committed in the story are harsh, but actually happen in the world. If you are super sensitive, this may not be the book for you. I was happy, sad, outraged and cried! I think Taylor Law did a great job with this.
Romance between two hot guys, Caleb and Jake. Jake has been keeping a secret from Caleb. His whole world comes crashing on the night they get engaged. Luckily there's a HEA. in my opinion, some plot holes but I can forgive those. Loved the characters too much to complain. Recommended for a romance with some darker unexpected twists and a chemistry between the two main characters that had me invested in them and trying to figure out along with Caleb what might be going on.
3.5 stars rounded up. This is a very dark story. Some parts are disgusting even. Horrible crime happened and Jake was once in the middle of it. He has build a new life with Caleb. A life with love and light but then his past comes back. There's no real HEA because there's no conclusion. But the ending fits a short story. in a book I'd miss a HEA. Badly.
Really enjoyed this freebie from this year's Loves Landscapes event. It just goes to show you should ALWAYS tell the truth if you can...you might save yourself a bucket load of heartache, misery, violence and tears. 4 stars from me.
Wow, that shorty really packed a punch! Sensitive topics, abuse, strong histories, tough decisions, and omissions. Tough to read but a great story and very well written!
This was a very interesting story, it was a bit short but even with that, it manage to have a realy good plot, i was full of surprices, and likable characters, i enjoyed reading it very much.
