Rowan’s journey with mentor Wim provides an on-going case study throughout the chapters. This narrative is written to both entertain and instruct on the aging journey for us and our loved ones. Chapters begin with a segment of Rowan’s Quest, followed by contemporary discussion of the business of life and the common changes experienced along the aging and end-of-life journey. Each chapter closes with a task list to help you develop tools, find resources and embrace your new knowledge in preparing for your own Final Quest. Learning the language used by medical and social service professionals to describe changes in function and thinking, you can have more collaborative conversations about current state and anticipate new needs.
Understanding your choices in advanced planning, available tools and the tasks of end-of-life and after-death care allows a more graceful pivot to whatever come next. Accepting and engaging with the aging or illness-related decline and ultimately the death experience - whether anticipated and sudden - can reduce our fear as we walk the paths of our life with our loved ones. Death is transformed from an experience of trauma and loss into one embracing the mystery and supporting our survivors with strength and appreciation for the life we have been given.
