THE GETAWAY GROOM (Summer Grooms Book 4) A feisty Southern belle meets a big-city bachelor when they’re both on the run from heartache, and sparks fly.
Mark Delacroix is on the run from heartache. While his job setting up factories for DelaStar Drafts demands mobility, it’s really his trouble with women that keeps Mark on the move. When Mark meets Ivy Green, his whole world changes. She’s smart and sweet, and helps him see country life in a brand-new light. But can a pretty Southern belle change a big-city bachelor’s mind about his destiny?
It’s taken Ivy Green a lifetime to sort things out. What she wants and whom she loves, including which guy she can’t get over. When Mark Delacroix arrives in Rosemont, the locals worry he’ll destroy the town. Yet, he hopes to rebuild it, with Ivy’s help. In return, Mark plays Ivy’s date at her ex-fiancé’s wedding, so she can prove to Rosemont – once and for all – that she’s left Austin behind. But when she does, will another man take his place in her heart?
A sweet, PG-rated romantic comedy. Approximately 40,000 words.

The Getaway Groom is the fourth book in the Summer Grooms series. This can be read as a standalone story, which is wonderful because I have not read the first three books yet, so I did not have to worry about being lost while I was reading. The characters in this story vary in age, and I enjoyed the interactions between all of them. Ms. Baird even gives us a little blooming romance in the background of the main characters, which I loved just as much. I laughed at their antics, and I even cried a few times, so be prepared to do the same.
Mark Delacroix has left the city to come to Rosemont while he oversees the opening of a new factory in this small town. The locals fear he’s going to ruin their town with his factory, but DelaStar Drafts is all about helping the community, especially the towns where the factories are located. The day he meets a few of the locals he just happens to be on the run from his bride. Oh yeah, did I mention that he left her standing at the altar? This doesn’t make a good impression on the townsfolk. How can the trust someone who broke a promise to the woman he was supposed to marry.
Ivy Green has lived in Rosemont her entire life. She left for a few years to attend college, but she came back and now works at the coffee shop in town. When Mark runs in he makes a bigger mess of things and that sets their first interactions off on the wrong foot. Neither one of them is ready for a new relationship, but sparks fly in that first meeting. When Ivy’s ex comes into the coffee shop inviting her to his wedding Mark agrees to go as her boyfriend to prove to the town that she can move on without her ex. What could possibly happen? It’s just a date for the wedding…Right?
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I have not yet met a Ginny Baird story that I did not enjoy immensely. Ms. Baird creates from fun characters that have interesting personalities that makes for some fun story lines.
The Getaway Groom starts out with plenty of drama as Mark Delacroix runs away from his wedding. He ends up in Ivy Green's store and makes a complete mess of things. It's not long and Ivy has Mark cleaning up literally.
Things don't start off well for Mark and Ivy. As they get to know each other though they find that they truly like each other. Ivy is a small town girl with hometown values. She is not pleased with Mark and a few of his plans for the town. That is until she finds out that Mark really does have some great ideas to help the town. This increases those intense sparks.
I think my favorite part of the story is when Mark tells Ivy's ex that he is her boyfriend. They are going to attend the ex's wedding together. As they get to know each other to be a pretend date things turn more real as time goes on.
I always enjoy Ginny Baird's fun sweet romantic stories. I always fall for her characters and I enjoy her writing style.
If you are looking for a fun sweet romance, then you really should pick up one of Ginny Baird's books. I'd recommend this one. It's a lot of fun but all her books are really great.
The Getaway Groom is part of a series. I have not read the other books in this series and I had no problem at all reading it as a stand alone, so I don't think you will either.
I was given the opportunity to read this great story so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my pleasure to share my thoughts with you on The Getaway Groom.
I received this book as an advanced reading copy (ARC) for an honest review.
It took me a long time to read this book and it's very short, I found it was never calling to me. I ended up after some months just starting the book and powering through it but when I hit about 20 pages left I put it down again and took me two weeks before I forced myself to pick it back up and finish.
Going into it I was excited based on the synopsis but throughout the book I kept feeling like something was missing. I think that something was clarity. Multiple times throughout the book I kept thinking and feeling that pages or scenes were muddled. The author didn't seem to have a clear voice in writing this nor did she develop her characters well.
The "hero" a few times even seemed to me like a teenage girl with some of the silly over used schemes he came up with for their "fake" relationship. I also couldn't figure out who the author was trying to connect with. Certain words and phrases she used seemed like the book should have been taking place in the 1950's but then she would have a character say something like "my peeps" which is about a decade out of use. These odd choices of words/phrases were consistent either so it wasn't as if she was using them to sculpt or develop a character.
Overall it was anticlimactic, the most interesting part of the book is the first 10 or so pages.
The Getaway Groom is Book 4 in the Summer Grooms series that can be read as a stand alone. The story is a new look at the runaway bride story. Mark Delacroix and Ivy Green meet after a wedding that wasn't and appear to be an unlikely pair. But, like all the romance stories we love the most unlikely pairs sometimes finds a way to their happily-ever-after. Mark is new to town and various reasons is not very well liked. Ivy is a hometown girl who has big dreams but as not quite found a way to make her dreams come true. They both are headed down different paths. Will their paths some how intercept?
The bonus in this story is another love affair that happens along with the hero and heroine's. If you love a sweet romance set in a small town then you will love this one! Mrs. Baird is a great author who pulls you into every one of her stories. You will not be able to put this book down. Grab a copy today!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There were actually 2 love stories taking place. The minor one was between Walt and Eustis. They were so cute. Who said love can't come around a second time in life. Now Mark just escaped being married. His main concern is the town of Rosemont. That is until pesky Ivy Green shows up to tell him he's a jerk. He listens to her complaints and makes changes. In the mean time, Ivy was left at the alter by her ex. He has now shown up with his new finance and wants Ivy to come to the wedding. So Mark and Ivy plan to attend as just friends. Only the town is having none of that. They see them out having lunch and coffee. He has helped her plant flowers. Both are fighting the attraction. Until the day that Mark leaves. Suddenly Rosemont brings Ivy no joy. Mark has delegated his work load and is on an extended vacation. Neither is happy. Who flinches first. You'll just have to read to find out.
I received this book in exchange for my honest review and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a quick read. I liked the small town atmosphere and the believable characters. Both of the main characters have had bad experiences with ex's and are wary of having another romantic relationship. This is a clean book that would be appropriate for anyone who enjoys a light romantic book; perfect for beach reading or any time you have a few minutes to read. The problem is you won't want to put it down until it is finished! This is book 4 of the Summer Groom series. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
The Getaway Groom is a must read. Mark Delacroix is a city boy who was running from heartache after his fiance gives him hurtful and unforgiveable news right before they were about to be married. Ivy Green, who is a small city girl, also had her heart broken. Mark and Ivy meets and boy do they have undeniable chemistry. But, their worlds couldn't be anymore different. They are both stubborn as well. Can they survive all their differences and find love again? Will they be destined for each other? Read Ginny Baird's book to find out. You will not be dissappointed. Mrs. Baird's fiesty read is one you won't want to put down.
'The Getaway Groom' (The Summer Grooms Series book ) by Ginny Baird is a fun, sweet, quick read. This story is a excellent addition to the Summer Grooms Series. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I loved all the characters especially Ivy, Mark, Eustis and Walt! I highly recommend this book as well as all of Ginny's other work to anyone that enjoys a great romance! **I received this book in exchange for a honest review.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed Mark and Ivy's story. They are characters that I connected with. I loved the way they both learned to let go of the old relationships so they could be open to a new one. I also liked the small town setting of the book.
I look forward to reading the rest of the series and more of Ginny's books in the future.
A nice, sweet story of two people who have both been hurt in the past but are trying to move forward. The overall story is good and I enjoyed the characters in the book. I felt the writing was a little too jumpy, would have liked the transitions from topic to topic to be a little smoother. Overall though a very good story. I would recommend it for a light easy read.
I started with book 1 in this series this morning and could not stop reading. The stories are funny and romantic. They flow so well that you just want to read more. This is the first time I read four books in a series in one day and would do it again if they were as good as this one.
Mark and Ivy were both fun, likable characters in this book as were all the secondary characters. Ginny Baird always writes such fun romances, I love every one of her books I have read.
