Stuck in England with a life I didn’t like anymore, I dreamed of going back to live in rural France. But how could I leave my kids?
“Mum, what are you waiting for?” said India.
“Do it! It’s where you belong, mum!” said Angel. “Don’t worry about us, it’s our home. We’ll come and see you all the time.”
But could I really go back and live amongst ghosts of the past? Wasn’t it more like moving backwards instead of forwards?
Come with me as I’m lowered into a gigantic cave in a cage, canoe down the River Dordogne, visit the prehistoric cave of Lascaux, interview a nun and chat up a Frenchman. In My Dordogne Life, I share the magic of living in this corner of France.
“In the end…we only regret the chances we didn’t take, the relationships we were afraid to have, and the decisions we waited too long to make.” Lewis Carol.
Ever since I was a little girl, it’s been my dream to write books. But, as life often does, it took me on a different path. Until recently. Approaching my 60th birthday, I gave myself a good talking to and made a promise: if I was ever going to fulfil that lifelong dream, I needed to change my life. And so, I did.
“Write about what you know” is the advice they always give. And that’s exactly what I’ve done.
My first book is all about life in the Dordogne, France, where I’ve lived for over 30 years.
My second is the first in a trilogy for beginners learning the French language – Book 2 is currently in progress.
I’m also working on my fourth book: a family saga set in the Dordogne, inspired by my own family history. Truth, after all, is often stranger, and richer, than fiction.
In 2023, I launched Dordogne Life, a lifestyle blog celebrating everyday life in this beautiful region, which I continue to write for regularly. I’ve also contributed articles to Living France magazine.
Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoy my books as much as I’ve loved writing them.
