Cab Marin must choose between security and love. His island paradise offers underwater odd-jobs that pay the bills yet it’s a lonely existence. Joining his long-distance love, Vicki Jennings, in Florida will fill the gap in his heart but doing that means starting over in a new career with every chance of failing – again. He struggles with the options, hiding behind indecision, until he learns that the ghost ship El Conquista is real and waiting to be discovered. Now he faces a new choice.
Afterlight, the exciting sequel to Cab’s Lantern, examines the risks and rewards of letting current events influence long-term goals. For Cab this road to understanding winds through adventure, discovery, greed and disaster, and in the end he learns that even the smallest gamble can mean losing it all.
I am a tale-spinner. My childhood heroes were Jules Verne and Victor Appleton II, architects of fantastic adventures. Hemingway stepped in when I discovered that the trials and triumphs of real people – those with limited physical and financial resources – were even more intriguing than science fiction. Today I try to follow that example with my own characters. They are the ‘you and me’ of the world, ordinary people facing extraordinary circumstances, beaten down perhaps and yet determined to succeed. Invariably they find adventure, romance and self-fulfillment, as should we all.
When not absorbed in the pages of some new author or hammering away at my latest manuscript I can be found living and running in Stowe, VT. Visit my website at www.CabsLantern.com and feel free to drop me a line at JeffRussell@CabsLantern.com. Happy reading!
How can one go wrong when they pick up a Jeff Russell book. He writes from the heart with integrity and discipline. He researches his subjects, and it shows. This being the sequel to Cab's Lantern, is a remarkable story that begins with three ships that took off in a storm, and a fourth trying to catch up with them back a few centuries or more. It is a stand alone book, and a very good one. Yet, in the modern day, we meet up with Cab, who is now running a salvage outfit for boats. Vicki is back working on marine biology on her old college campus. They have a long distance relationship. Can it last? How does Cab get involved with the old sailing ships in the Caribbean? You will have to read to find out. You will not be disappointed, believe me. I just have to read this again! It is really good!
Thank you to Mr. Jeff Russell for giving me a copy of this book so that I can read it and give my honest review.
One of my favorite authors, Jeff Russel, has done it again with 'Afterlight'. I have read Cab's Lantern and the 'Dream Shelf'... Afterlight is the sequel to Cab's Lantern and promises a good follow-up from the first installment.
Never a dull moment as the story unfolds and remarkably well written with a captivating plot and undying characters within the story line. An exciting journey that visits a ship wreck with a fantasy back drop and a mesmerizing approach to the deep under belly of this epic adventure with historical elements thrown in for good measure. Definitely one for your Kindle library.
Another great book from Jeff Russell! This book was perfectly balanced and well paced. The characters were perfectly interesting and entertaining! I just love Jeff Russell's writhing style and the way that this story is written.
