The Labyrinth was the epic conclusion to the Nightfall Gardens trilogy. This book was everything I was hoping for with a few added gut-wrenching twists and a bittersweet end. After the other two stories in this series, it was apparent that we were heading towards a war of epic proportions in this book. I knew that the gardens would fall one way or another. What I was not prepared for was everything that would be lost in that happening! This book will send you in a tailspin of emotions. I thought I knew what I wanted when I started reading this, I was all jacked up and ready for this incredible battle. I was ready for this! Until I wasn't. As this battle was raging, in multiple locations, I then started having some doubts, did I really want this to happen? OMG what if something happens to one of these many characters that I have grown to love so much? Seriously at one point I was chanting, "No, not Arfast, oh god no, nothing better happen to him!" This trickster held a special place in heart! So I finally started to realize what this bloody battle to the end would mean, and I was struck with fear and longing for my favorites to all stay intact.

It might have been even more unnerving considering how split up everyone was, half the brigade defending the Nightfall Manor, and the other troupe braving the most mysterious of gardens, the Labyrinth. Which by the way, the Labyrinth was, in one word, awesome! I loved that this housed most of the Gods of old. I immensely enjoyed the new characters that we met there, who were just full of surprises. Furrina brought a much needed comic relief to the savageness of the situation they were in. They were how I always envision the old world gods, strange, mysterious, kind of off their rocker, rather flippant, and having no real concept of mortality and the fragility of it. I loved this!

I also loved that even in the face of seemingly inevitable doom, Lily's sense of right and her courage never wavered! She was a force to be reckoned with in this book, and I appreciated it so much more considering how far she has come from the vain and selfish girl she was in the first book. Silas, since the very beginning, always seemed to have a steadfast and truly good heart, and I loved him for it. But Lily's journey to becoming everything she was by The Labyrinth sky rocketed her into a top position in my heart! Even some of the reformed creatures from the gardens weaseled themselves in there! Polly with her utter devotion to Lily, decrepit Ozy the ever faithful servant to the Blackwood family, Osbold the pet gargoyle, Raga the witch, Erasmus P. Meriwether, Colonel Jackson, and many others! It was a fantastic line up of characters to care for, but it was also a large list of loves to say goodbye to.

On a final note I just want to say that one of the things I loved most about this trilogy was that this story felt ageless. It was one of those rarities along the lines of Harry Potter, or Percy Jackson, where I think someone at any age would find this tale enjoyable. It was extremely imaginative, well written, and centered around the timeless struggle of good vs evil. I was completely bewitched by Nightfall Gardens, and my only hope is that many, many other people will be too!

**A special thanks to the author for providing copies of the whole trilogy in exchange for honest reviews.**

I wasn't allowed to review this book on Amazon (because I haven't brought enough from the site), so I'll do it here, since I really need to!

I've read all three books in this series and just finished the last one and all I've gotta say is... WOW!!

This triology is AMAZING!! I can't remember when I last enjoyed a series this much, where I absolutely LOVED all of the characters! The world is spetacular, so dark and atmospheric and the way Allen Houston describes the setting makes you really feel the gloom deep in your bones.

The manor and all the gardens were so detailed that I could picture it all while I read it, and as such this world really came alive for me along with all the great and complex characters that inhabited it. More than once I was so afraid of anything happening to my beloved characters that I had to read ahead to make sure they survived. Especially Arfast, our dear trickster, had a special place in my heart together with Lily, Villon, Polly, Skuld and Meriwether! This is not to say that I didn't love all of the characters, but these ones were really special to me.

I was so absorbed in these books that I couldn't put them down (which doesn't happen to me often), so needless to say I loved all three - but the final one was really amazing because the impending war between the Blackwoods and the gardens (put in simple terms) which were present in the two first books finally broke loose which created an incredible sense of suspense during the whole book!

(spoilers ahead)
I was so sad at the ending, but also happy for the Blackwood siblings as they survived and won the fight against Eldritch and the evil creatures from the gardens, but I teared up when all those good-natured characters also had to go as the gardens were crumbling. The final scene with Lily and Polly made me cry, but also Meriwhether, Furrina, Villon, Ozy (which made a tearful but amazing sacrifice during the war) and Mr. Hawthorne broke my heart. I was devastated by the end but also incredibly thankful for having been on this journey with the Blackwoods through all their joy, sorrow, and bravery. Lily's development was absolutely wonderful, and she became such an open-minded, kind, and brave girl by the end that I was cheering for her with all of my heart.

I feel like I have so much more to say, but I'm afraid my review will get too long.
If you enjoy horror, suspense, gods, witches and all kinds of cool, supernatural beings, and badass protagonists then these books are for you!

I will never forget this adventure that has come to mean the world to me. Thank you, Nightfall Gardens, for allowing me to be a part of this amazing journey.

I created my account on here, solely because I HAD to write a review for this beautiful series! So take that as another hint that you should definitely read it... right now!!

As is very often always the case, I received this book free in exchange for a review. Despite the kindness of receiving a free book I'm absolutely candid about the book because I want everyone to know what they're getting as much as I hope to when I'm shopping.

This book is the third in the Nightfall Gardens series and continues right where the previous book left off. As third books go this one does a good job of keeping you caught up even if you haven't read the first book so going back to #1 isn't an absolute requirement but it will make the whole experience make slightly more sense. The genre for this is dark childhood heroic literature. The protagonists are children who have been ripped away from home and called upon to do some pretty heroic things in a grim setting reminiscent of Lovecraft.

To the positive side, as with the other two books, the characters and setting of this one are delightful. The cast is varied and dark and everyone involved has a potent complexity in their history. From a narrative perspective the story carries you along exceptionally well and when everything comes to its conclusion you do have a reasonably satisfying sense of finality.

To the negative, I must admit that the book's overall concept is a great one but the final apex in the action seemed to be a bit of a cop-out. At one point in particular I thought to myself, "Oh my! He's really going to do it!" and for a few pages it seemed like the book might conclude with all the dark reality that had distinguished it so uniquely for the previous 700 pages. I can't be any more specific without spoilers but suffice to say that at the end I was left with more of a feeling that the book had tied up the loose ends sufficiently but hadn't really stayed true to its previous character.

Also, it should be noted that the current edition (as of November/December 2014) has quite a few textual issues that act as distractions and points of confusion. Plot lines are at times confused and contradictory, words are completely misused and sometimes dropped altogether and while this not a pervasive problem it is a significant distraction. For the purposes of review, however, I will leave that be for the most part since the author informs me that he is in the middle of a re-edit of the novel that will correct many of these problems. If you are particularly bothered by such issues then perhaps wait for the second edition to be issued.

To summarize globally, when this series arrived on my coffee table I was drawn to it immediately and put aside everything else in the queue to read it. On the whole I'm glad I did because this author has a dark, twisted and at times almost perverse style that suits my rather dark, twisted and almost perverse personality. They say you can't judge a book by its cover but an experienced reader can smell out a good book just looking at it on the coffee table. I'm still not entirely sure if this is YA literature or adult literature because most of the time it's very teenager but at times it does slip into brief graphic violence. With a bit of tweaking this series has wonderful potential and I could see it crafted into a very expensive movie. This is one of those series that makes reading all those trite novels seem worth it. Sometimes you unearth a true gem.

Great conclusion to an excellent trilogy. Even at 500+ pages, it never lets up and the tight situations, battles, tension and story line never falter.Anyone loving fantasy or horror would do well to get the series and plan to dive in until book three is finished. Great and extremely unique characters!

An amazing journey

In this final installment, Lily and Silas face off against all the evils possible. Cassandra, Silas and Arfast face off against the witch. Lily and a hoard of ghosts have to battle to save the mansion. What a rollercoaster ride it has been. Loved characters, storyline and the ending. Excellent series! Highly recommend!

Excellent end to the trilogy. Lily finds the Blackwood strength in herself, Silas becomes more of the mature "man" he hopes for and the Shadow Gardens heel to their destiny. I really like how all the characters are involved I this great final battle royale for the fate of humanity.

Perfect last book to the series! The series is cozy gore-horror-adventure all throughout the book. It was nice to read a book that hardly has any true triggers like other gore and horror books. I loved all the characters, the ghosts, the beasts, all of it!

4.5 Stars! The Nightfall Gardens trilogy comes to an action-packed end as the intrepid Blackwood and their friends race from one peril to the next in a bid to keep the house and Gardens standing, while they search for Pandora’s Box, hold off the evil Eldritch and try to avoid getting killed in gruesome style by various denizens of the Gardens. Just like The Shadow Garden, this book takes off like a rocket from the first page and doesn’t let up the pace until the end.

This was definitely my favourite of the three books, not just because Lily and Silas both come into their own in this book – growing up, making decisions, getting serious stuff done – but also because for the first time the peril is real. Without giving anything away, I may have cried out “[character]! Nooooooo! Not [character]!” at least once, and then whimpered over a couple of others along the way. There are plenty of moments where it’s hard to tell how things will go and who will survive. This is an edge-of-your seat read full of grizzly horrors, but also sweet moments of friendship. Some more unexpected than others.

I really loved finally getting a chance to seen inside the Labyrinth in this book. The other two Gardens are open and easily seen, but the Labyrinth has always been a walled off mystery. It was worth the wait, though since it’s such an amazing place, and the range of gods inside was great (even if all the important things still seemed to hinge on Greek mythology – sigh). It was also great to see certain characters have their moment to shine (Ozy and Raga were particularly awesome), and to finally find out who the traitor in the house was.

Bringing everything to a fitting close with some heartache and surprises along the way, I really enjoyed this one and definitely recommend this series overall. If you like your fantasy full of monsters and Gothic gloom, but with an ordinary hero and heroine doing extraordinary things, then you should really try this trilogy. It’s dark, yes, but it’s fast-paced and gripping and definitely one I’ll be reading again.

(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review).

(This review may contain spoilers).

Having read the previous two books in this trilogy, I was glad to have the opportunity to read the final book as well.

I thought what both Lily and Silas were going through clearly had an effect on both of them. While I always felt that Silas was more mature than his sister, despite there being times he acted his 'normal' age, I felt Lily had grown up a lot by the end of this book.

There was a stronger sense of urgency in this last book and I thought it was good that there was the opportunity to learn more about the other characters... though I really didn't like Cassandra's father.

I did like the hints of a relationship between Cassandra and Silas. It was good to see there was less of Cassandra picking at Silas in this book, but as she seemed to come across as more genuine, I felt a lot of sympathy for her. Cassandra and Silas were probably my favourite human characters in this.

I really liked Ozzy and Polly. There's something quite moving about creatures who fight against their own natures... and I loved how protective Polly was over Lily. I thought she was a really likable character and I didn't need to know much about her past to understand her. I would have liked to know some more details about what her kind's like, though.

I liked being able to see more of the ghosts in the house and I was quite taken with the Captain. I didn't like the governess, though... even if she was clearly capable of whipping the ghosts into shape.

I really liked Ursula, even though her nature meant that she made everyone else depressed. I thought it was really sweet to see her and Farragut together.

I really liked Alfrast's character, even though I spent a while not sure I could trust him. And I did like being able to learn more about Villon's past.

There were a lot of tense scenes in this book and I found it really easy to read. I'm sure I'd be interested in reading more books by this author in the future.

Ten Second Synopsis:
Events begin to move towards their inevitable conclusion, with some unexpected allies appearing from the ether.

Book three really does pick up exactly where the last book finished and once again plunges straight into the action. This is probably the most anomalous of the three books as in it we get to journey into the Labyrinth, the home of all the lost, almost-forgotten and mostly ancient deities are trapped, waiting for a chance to re-exert their power over humans in the real world. This section of the story still had the menace of the rest of the action (especially when the Smiling Ladies decide to make an appearance) but also lent a sense of otherworldliness and hope to the pervading sense of anticipated loss that coloured the first two books.

The book has the classic “building up to the final battle” atmosphere throughout, but we are also treated to some new (and unexpectedly jocular) characters and a little bit of romance in the air for Ursula, the Glumpog maid who spreads despair (unintentionally) wherever she goes. Ursula ended up being one of my favourite characters of the series, mainly because of the comic relief that she tends to provide whenever she’s in a scene.

The thing I appreciated most about this book was the fact that the final battle and resolution had all the feeling and action expected of the climax of a fantasy trilogy, without the blow-by-blow descriptions of the final fights that are so characteristic of this genre, and which I tend to find rather tedious. I was very grateful to the author for giving us the meat of the resolution without all the tiresome chewing of gristle that just draws out the ending for no discernible benefit to the telling.

A fitting end to an impressively adventurous series.

MY THOUGHTS
This was such a great series and this was a great finale!

In the last book in the Nightfall Gardens trilogy. the evil within the gardens are amassing to break out of their prison. Finding, and destroying, Pandora's Box is even more important than ever. Lily, Silas, and the other friends and allies have to find the box along with trying to fight a war with the creatures inside the gardens.

Wow. A lot happens in this book! I felt like this book was very long, but how action-packed things were just made up for it! The ending was a bit rushed, but it was still a very great conclusion!

I must repeat myself from my review of the last book: the characters change so much! Again, I hate the circumstances that make them change, but if you were to compare the characters from this book to from the first book, they would be completely different. It is even more heartbreaking in this book what the characters must go through, which is horrible considering what has happened in the previous two books. This series is not all gumdrops and rainbows!

IN CONCLUSION
Overall, I really think this series is worth it! If you enjoy dark, gothic books, then this is a great series for you! I am very satisfied with this series!

I just want to start by saying I am devastated that this is the last book because this series is sooo good! I hope the author has started a new series for me to devour.
Now onto my review....You do not need to read the first two books to be able to keep up an understand this book, but I highly recommend that you do read the first two. The last book in the series was a roller coaster of emotions for me. The epic war you knew was coming since book one was not a let down. The labyrinth's adventures and new characters made for a surprisingly great read. I loved the character relationships conclusion and would love to go into more details but do not want to spoil it for anyone! This book and conclusion to this series was truly prodigious. I love the authors ability to make you compare light and dark good and evil and tell an amazing entertaining novel at the same time! Thanks for the chance to read your books Allen Houston!

Felt a bit rushed, I think it would have benefited from more editing. There was a few 'huh?' times where I would reread a section a few times to try and make sense of it, but no amount of rereading made it make any sense.

And just a personal thing, but Furrina as a 90's valley girl, super annoying and not that believable. She's centuries old!

This felt slow in the beginning but I kept in going because I wanted to know how the trilogy is going to end. And it did pick up the pace but still it was only ok read. There was good parts but also things that might have needed editing.
