Ember loves all things with heat! A glass of wine, a comfy, oversized sweater, and a spicy book next to a fireplace is her ideal night. She likes to read about powerful heroines and protective heroes, and write about them, too.

When she’s not writing, Ember is a fox in the henhouse, causing all kinds of hell. She enjoys making pasta while listening to big brass bands, taking long walks with her favorite audio books, playing D&D, and painting—but not very well.

Some of Ember’s favorite authors include Laura Thalassa, Shannon Mayer, and Raven Kennedy. Their powerful heroines inspire her daily to get out of bed and to do her best (or stay in it to keep reading!)

The ultimate culmination of a brilliant, brutal, dark, weird magical series laced with scorching hot spice and passion. You have outshine yourself Ember. Top-notch creative writing. The Quests for the ingredients for the weapon to defeat Aisha were borderline suicidal and nerve wrecking. Losing my favorite princess was devastating, but no name, as I had to read all tensed up and to find my suspicion was spot on. A positive was Arik founding his love. Book 5 really took this series to a well rounded end and we can only hope for a series about the daughters in the future.

Omg what an ending to a series. The last couple chapters had me bawling and even after I put it down I was still crying about it for a bit after. This book focuses on wrapping up the series and the princesses from the previous books which focused on their stories and romances are now going up against the goddess is seeking to destroy them with the other gods meddling and with their own agendas.
If you love dangerous quests then you will love this book as there are multiple quests where the stakes could not be higher and sacrifices and deals will have to be made to make it out alive all in the hopes that it can be used to win this war. Everyone in this book was pushed to their limit and some. It was nice seeing all my favorite characters one last time but damn they got put through the ringer and my heart was pounding especially when they were on these quests.

This book had everything, love, struggle, pain, wins and losses and of course losses and let me just say no one is safe in this book. It was a wild ride of a book and I am so sad to see the series end but what an ending and it sets it up for a spin off about the daughters of the princesses and I am so excited to see more of the new world and see all the characters I love again and to get some answers on some things that were left undone. So while yes this wraps up the series it does leave on a bit of a cliff hanger so that it can be spung off into a spin off series.

Love this series and thank you Ember for the wild ride. Your books have made me cry, laugh and cheer on these princesses and their princess's since book 1 and I could not love this series more.

--------

The time has come for the ancient prophecy about the rise of a dark goddess to reclaim her throne and take over not just their kingdom but their whole world is upon the Princesses of Ruin and to defeat her they will have to work together and sacrifices will have to be made so that some may survive. But first the princesses will have to go on quests to gather items they need for one last shot at Ashai as all their other attempts have failed and she has now encased herself in a impenetrable cocoon while she builds up her power for the final attack. But these quests that they must embark on are a dangerous feat in their own right with battles against ancient monsters that will change not just those on the quest but also those into the future as well. But sacrifices must be made because the fate of the world hangs in the balance and without these deals there will be no world or future for anyone.

“You don’t have to love me. Just let me love you.”

I loved seeing all the characters in this series together. It just made me fall in love with all of them even more. The author took us on a wild ride with this one. So be prepared! In order to read this book you have to have read the previous 4 books. If not you will be confused. This book will also have multiple povs. All the characters from the previous books will have their povs. Based on how this book ends it sounds like we will have a sequel to this series. It will focus on the kids of these characters. I cannot wait to see what the author has in store for us.

an epic conclusion to an amazing series! so much has happened & it's been such a journey of emotions throughout each book. the ending had me feeling some type of way, that's for sure. 🥺 I hate spoilers, so I'm not gonna say much.

definitely recommend that you read each book in order published, even though they are considered stand-alones. you'll be very confused if you start with this one!

big thanks to Ember for gifting me an e-arc! it's been a wild journey with this series. 🖤

Great story. The story has all the princesses working with their mates to each gather a different item that will save their kingdoms. They have another couple that will help them find an item. Their quests will be filled with danger and consequences. This book ends with an unusual ending. I enjoyed reading this series of books.

The Princesses of Ruin is not just a book, it’s a storm. From the very first page, Ember Holt drags you into a world that burns, bleeds, and breathes with raw magic, political chaos, and hauntingly human characters.

This is fantasy at its boldest, unafraid of darkness, unafraid of passion. The opening scene alone had my heart pounding, and from then on I couldn’t tear my eyes away. There’s fire everywhere, literal and metaphorical, and it never lets up.

What makes this book extraordinary isn’t just the sweeping battles or the dangerous magic (though those are written with a cinematic intensity that kept me breathless). It’s the characters. Scarlett with her spindles and her impossible strength, Zane’s steady, grounding presence, Alyse’s grace and fragility, Kazimir’s relentless devotion, Liliana’s firecracker energy, and even the monstrous tenderness of Alastair, each of them is flawed, powerful, and heartbreakingly real.

The relationships, romantic, sisterly, loyal, broken, are painted in such vivid strokes that I often had to pause and just feel. The way Ember Holt writes intimacy, whether it’s a kiss in the middle of chaos, a whispered vow before battle, or a sister’s protective fury, left me aching in the best way.

And the prose… it’s brutal, beautiful, and unflinching. Holt doesn’t shy away from gore, lust, or grief. This world is dangerous and devastating, but also strangely hopeful. The tenderness between characters shines even brighter against the shadows, like little sparks fighting to survive in the ruins.

How it made me feel: I went through a whirlwind of emotions. There were moments when I felt my chest tighten with dread, others when I caught myself smiling like a fool at the smallest display of love or loyalty. Sometimes I wanted to throw the book across the room out of sheer frustration at the characters’ choices, and yet I also wanted to hold it close because of how deeply it touched me. I felt exhilarated, gutted, furious, hopeful, and more than once I had to stop reading just to breathe and collect myself. It’s rare for a book to pull me so completely into its world that I forget my own, but this one did, again and again.

This book gave me everything I crave in dark fantasy: morally complex heroines, terrifying villains, breathtakingly visceral magic, and a constant push-pull between destruction and love. By the final pages, I was wrecked, exhilarated, and already desperate for more.

If you love fantasy that claws into your chest and doesn’t let go, The Princesses of Ruin will ruin you, gloriously.

CW: violence, gore, spice, attempted SA, some others

Thank you to the author for the ARC! “Princesses of Ruin” is available now!

I wanted to adore it, but it fell just a little shy of perfect.

The final battle has arrived. The princesses are ready to take back their kingdom. Now they just have to kill a goddess.

I want to make it very clear that I did not, by any means, *dislike* this book. It was an enjoyable read. The magic is beautiful. The plot is interesting and the pacing is snappy. The spice was spicin’ (though it did feel like there was less of it than in prior installments). All the elements were there to make this a home run of a series finale.

There was just something missing, though. Maybe it’s because it’s been a minute since I read the last book in the series, but there was no oomph for me in this one. The characters are great, and there were some moments that really should’ve packed a punch, and it never quite happened. Maybe some of it is from the lack of buildup getting back into the story; it’s full steam ahead from page one, and nowhere do we really look back at how we got there, or why, or what’s going on. Whatever it was, book 5 just didn’t have the zing I was expecting.

I always struggle to write reviews for later books in a series, and it’s mainly because, by that point, I’ve already yelled about most of the things that are done well. If I’ve stuck around long enough to reach the end, there’s a reason. This book is no exception. I loved the first four books. The princesses and their adventures are what kept me coming back to the series in the first place. The world and the magic, the spice and the romance, all of it adds up to really enjoyable stories. So for this one to come in and not really stick the landing was unfortunate. Again, it’s not bad by any means, and maybe if I’d read it right on the tail of the others it would have hit harder, but there’s just something missing.

Finally! I was stoked to receive my ARC of The Princesses of Ruin and have an opportunity to share my thoughts - (review is voluntary etc etc).

The Princesses of Ruin is the epic conclusion to Ember Holt's five-book saga of the same name. Sisters Scarlett, Lily, Alyse, and Reina unite against the scheming gods who play games with their people. Each princess, having survived their mother's evil machinations and found love, must now combine their strengths for one final battle.

Reading The Princesses of Ruin, I found myself both invested in the climactic showdown and occasionally overwhelmed by the narrative structure. Holt gives each major character—ten in total—at least one POV chapter, creating a complex web of perspectives that, while comprehensive, sometimes fragmented my reading experience. Despite moments where I wished for tighter focus, I kept turning pages, drawn by my investment in these characters after four previous books.

The standout sequences involve Jasper and Reina's interactions with the Ga'hanoi, where Holt's world-building truly shines. From the not-too-subtle commentary on bureaucracy's stifling effect on innovation (complete with a delightfully named "delegate of procreation") to Reina's genuine appreciation for Ga'hanoi language and culture, these scenes crackle with both humor and heart. They remind us why this series works—Holt never forgets the human connections amid the divine conflicts.

For all its lighter moments, the novel poses weighty moral questions about power and responsibility, the price of peace, and the value of life. These themes elevate what could have been a straightforward dark romantasy romp into something more thoughtful and lasting.

Refreshingly (IMHO), Holt honors her five-book commitment without unnecessary padding or cliffhangers. The epilogues cleverly reference potential future adventures — without making readers feel shortchanged by this conclusion.

A huge thank you goes to Ember Holt, for letting me read an e-ARC of The Princesses of Ruin! This dark fantasy is the final instalment in the series of the same title, & easily became my favourite book from this quintet. How could it not, when every sister’s thread was explored in this epic finale!

Four sisters must unite against one deity, who would see the destruction of everything they hold dear. But can the princesses survive the battle ahead? Given just one opportunity, each sister must travel to the darkest parts of the realm, to gain a weapon that would see the end of Ashai. But it is not only the dark goddess who would see their ruin, as monsters & deadly trials await… Can Scarlett & her younger sisters finally send Ashai to the nine hells? What must they sacrifice to reclaim the kingdom? A happily ever after can never be guaranteed during wartime…

This dark fantasy reminds you why you fell in love with each individual sister’s journey, even as it blazes a new path towards the final showdown. And when you add new monsters, as well as the deadliest of trials into the mix? Sign. Me. Up.

And listen, if you came for the spicy goodness which was sprinkled throughout the previous books? You will *not* be disappointed. But that’s only part of the delights that awaits you within these pages. I love how Ember navigates the dreams & desires of each couple, even as she hints at what lies in their future—if they survive...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a solid, action-packed conclusion to the series, though not my absolute favorite from Ember (she’s still an auto-buy author for me!). I think I would have enjoyed it even more if I’d re-read the previous four books first because there are so many threads coming together here.
Main Characters: Scarlett, Lily, Alyse, and Reina really shine in this installment. Each princess has her own perilous journey—battling monsters, subduing giants, and making dangerous bargains—all while the looming threat of Ashai, the dark goddess, keeps the tension high.
Tropes You’ll Find:

Found family vibes among the princesses
Multiple POVs with distinct voices
High-stakes quest and prophecy-driven plot
Enemies-to-lovers tension sprinkled in
Dark goddess villain with morally gray undertones
Romantasy with spice (definitely delivers on the smut promise)

What I Liked:

The world-building is rich and immersive, with Ashai’s rise adding a deliciously dark edge.
The pacing ramps up with each trial, and the separate journeys keep things fresh.
The finale feels epic—danger, desire, and destiny collide in true Ember fashion.
If you love Throne of Glass or Six of Crows, this scratches that itch with a darker twist.

Overall, a gripping finale with plenty of twists and tension. If you’re invested in the series, you’ll appreciate how everything comes full circle. Just make sure to refresh your memory on the earlier books for maximum impact!

“I will love you forever. From the stars winking out to the death of the gods, you are my soul, my reason, my redemption.”

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ / 5

Tropes and Themes:

- Fated Mates
- Epic Quests
- Magical Bargains
- War & Fallout
- Spice ❤️‍🔥
- Series Finale

I have absolutely loved this series, and it's SO hard to see it come to an end - but what a conclusion! The Princesses of Ruin is mostly non-stop action, and we get the POVs of all the characters we've come to love (that's right, all TEN of them, including Adrik and Emillia)!

My rating came down just a little bit because the last quarter of the book seemed rushed, and there were parts that were a bit confusing. I really wish we had gotten a few specific plot lines wrapped up satisfactorily and expanded upon, especially with how much time, energy and emotion we've invested in this incredible series.

“You are perfect the way you are.”
“I’m nothing of the sort. Let me go.” I try to push him away, but he holds me tighter.
“You. Are. Perfect.”

Lastly, I just have to say that I'm so incredibly excited there will be a spinoff series! ❤️

The Princesses of Ruin is the fifth and final book in Holt's dark fantasy series by the same name. I would recommend reading them in order:

Book 1: Brutal Rival - Scarlett Bloodletter, aka The Princess of Prayers, and Zane Vestious, the Spider Lord.
Book 2: Feral Guardian - Princess Lilianna (Lily) Hilden and Alastair Osrick Brunay
Book 3: Dark Artificer - Princess Alyse Hilden and Kazimir
Book 4: Ruthless Scoundrel - Princess Reina Hilden and Jasper Luvine

This book brings all the princesses and their partners back together to try and ensure Ashai, a dark goddess, does not lay waste to their realm. Each duo sets out on an independent quest to retrieve an impossible ingredient (storm dragon scale, giant spider venom, duskwalker antler, sea serpent bile, and dire wolf fur) needed for a potion necessary for their ultimate mission. You may be saying there are 5 ingredients but only 4 duos. Fortunately we have the addition of Adrik Lemtov, the Nest's alchemist, and Emilia Alejandra, Captain of the Sea Snake (a Wolfsheim merchant vessel) for one of the quests.

I enjoyed this book, but for some reason I didn't love it as much as the princesses' individual stories. The quest stories were entertaining with well described scenes that pull readers in. I was definitely captivated. Once they all got back together for the epic battle, I think I was just expecting more. It was still great, but it lacked that je ne sais quoi to make it wow! I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed the many epilogues for many of the characters, including some that were unexpected.

It sounds like Holt left room for a follow-up series where the next generation are the heroines. I'd definitely be interested in reading those books as this was a world that drew me in and as always, at the end of a great series, it is hard to say goodbye.

Five stars is not nearly enough praise for The Princesses of Ruin! I knew from the first page of Brutal Rival that I was going to be madly in love with this series. Each book has been an emotional, steamy, and smutty adventure. I whole heartedly adore Ember and the amazing art she creates through storytelling.

The Princesses of Ruin is the fifth and final book in this series, and it did not disappoint. I love that we get to follow each princesses journey concurrently through the book while they battle their inner demons and their continued journey to save their kingdom. All of their previous work comes together in a neat, organized way that makes the story flourish.

Ember gives us everything we need, as always. The plot was clear and unique. The smut was detailed and creative. World building vividly captures all of the dynamic characters, kingdoms, and elements within the series. Not to mention the ending that had me both sobbing hysterically and ecstatic about their accomplishments.

I love the epilogue’s that give us a sneak peak into a potential spin off series. The Princesses of Ruin series is easily one of my absolute favorites of all time. Anything ember writes, I’m reading it!

I finished this book days ago and I am still sitting here completely wrecked. This is one of those books that by the end, you aren't quite sure what you feel. On one hand I am so excited for the next generation and series, but on the other hand, I want to scream into the void.

Each of the previous books in this series focused on one of sisters and her significant other, while the overarching plot line continued to gain momentum. Then in The Princesses of Ruin everything, from the foreshadowing, subplot lines, and driving forces come to a head. And as a fun twist there are 10 point of views, but with that way that Ember Holt handled it, made it feel seamless and didn't feel like as a reader you were jumping around in the storyline.

The thing that I loved about this book was the little crumbs that are setting up for the next series. I am very excited to return to this world and see what is next and how the actions of the princesses ripples into the future.

While this book absolutely wrecked me, I still love this series and would recommend it to anyone looking for a romantasy series with an edge.

You know when you read something and you just know it's going to break you in the best way? This whole series was about the struggle between gods and men, and as much as it broke my heart, Ms. Holt wouldn't have done this series justice if it didn't end as it does. You read these books and you think it's going to be the way everything seems to end, but it will surprise you at every turn.

This was a stunning and world changing conclusion to an amazing series. Princesses of Ruin will ruin you in the most amazing way. Ember Holt makes you feel what they feel, struggle when they do, and just the journey to save their world will break you down to build you into something new.

You should definitely read all the other books before taking this book on. You should definitely make sure you have a support animal or something because it will put you in the biggest book slump after. It was worth every hour reading, every lost night of sleep, and I would read this series over again if I got amnesia.

5/5 stars for this book, the series, and the author.

An action-packed finale to The Princesses of Ruin series that leave the door open for a spinoff series down the road.

A lot happened in this book, and we had a lot of POVs. Part of me wished I’d done a reread of the previous books so I would’ve remembered more about some of the side characters and their stories. Regardless of that fact, it was so nice visiting this world again and getting to spend time with these characters.

It was a four star read for me, whereas the previous books were all five stars. This was due to the fact that there was so much action and so many things happening with so many different characters, I didn’t feel as emotionally invested as I did with the previous books, where we got more time with the characters themselves.

Zane, though. My heart.

I’ll definitely be reading Daughters of Damnation when that series makes an appearance.

"Sometimes you must do evil to defeat evil."

In this final book, the princesses: Scarlett, Lily, Alyse and Reina finally reunite and join forces to defeat the evil goddess as each princess and their mates must face their own quests on their separate journeys to save their kingdom.

She will be safe. But I won't go far.
I'll never go far from her.
My soul.
My reason for being.

This is a series you shouldn't miss!✨ absolutely loved this finale from start to finish. it's so exciting, the pacing is fast, action packed, the romance is delightful, and even though there are 10 POVs, it's not confusing at all! I'm so lucky to have found this series, it is definitely a gem!🥰 although this book left me in a mixed feeling after I finished it... *sobs uncontrollably* yet it also made me excited because there's a hint of a sequel or spin off!🤩 If you're looking for a fast paced dark fantasy, all fierce and powerful FMCs with their possessive partners, and twisted plots that give an emotional rollercoaster ride that could wreck your heart, I highly recommend this series.

I loved how this series ended. I’ve been a huge fan of this series from the first pages I read, and I felt like Princesses of Ruin was a fitting way to end the series, while also leaving the door open for sequels (can’t wait!). I dropped a star on this book, simply because I’ve come to expect a certain level of spice in these books, and this one really didn’t have much at all. A brief refresher would’ve been appreciated as well! So much happens in the previous four books, I spent a good bit of time going back and forth to try to jog my memory. Overall, a fitting goodbye to the Princesses of Ruin and their men.

📚 After the first four works of perfection I was on the edge of my chair for the last book of the series and Ember did not disappoint. She gave me everything and more …. so much more. 🙏 possibly a new series 😉 Yup she did it again. i was laughing, crying, screaming at Ember. As per Ember there is heart wrenching moments.
🥵 If you thought there was spice in the first four, holy jumping spiders there is much more in this one. "I will love you forever. From the stars winking out to the death of the gods, you are my soul, my reason, my redemption."
⭐️ Five stars, if I could give more I would. Thank you Ember I will hold this story in my heart forever. I absolutely recommend this series. Perfection!

Easiest 5 star rating I've ever given. An epic end to an epic series. This book was an emotional and consuming read. The culmination of a plot that was incredibly well thought out and amazingly developed, it will be a while before I get hooked on another series quite this completely.

The struggles come to a peak in this installment and there are times when you really don't know who is going to make it to the end. So many twists and turns, so many difficult decisions, so many personal and collective battles are fought and it's a roller coaster from start to finish. Highly recommend, but set aside a weekend for this, you'll need it to read, and to recover.

the only note I took while reading bc it just picked up and I couldn’t stop reading after: YESSS QUESTS!!!🥳😝
fr tho the quests were my fav part🥰
the dialogue is still a bit cringe and immature at times but the writing itself in terms of plot and development is good. the big battle got a little jumbled for me, I think bc of how many povs there were, but it made sense in the long run. even though it isn’t a perfect hea, the “ending” (in quotes bc SPINOFF SERIES YASSSS) worked for this part of the story. so excited to read the spinoffs (set two decades later😭) and see how certain things play out😅

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of The Princesses of Ruin.

This is the fifth and final book in a series that will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. The penultimate battle against the dark goddess. All of the princesses and their mates's POV are told in this final chapter. This book will wring you out emotionally and have you coming back for more! Definitely read the book series in order and finish with this masterpiece. Ember will have you wanting to throw your book one moment and clutching it to your chest the next. A must read!!

I enjoyed getting into this world again and thought this was a strong finale in the Princesses of Ruin series. It continued the story in a way that was right for the series and had that writing style that I was wanting and enjoyed how good this was. It had that romantic fantasy element that I was looking for and enjoyed how it uses the genre perfectly. Ember Holt has a strong writing style and am excited to read more from her as I loved the characters and world.

I finished this almost a month ago, and forgot to update.

Wow. Ember sure knows how to hit you right in the feels. This as an excellent conclusion to an addicting series. I had the pleasure of ARC reading 4 of the 5 books and loved every one of them. I knew it was too much to hope that we would make it to the end with all our characters intact but the sacrifice felt unavoidable and a long time coming. I've loved this series since the beginning and this was the ending this story deserved. Well done Ember.

Gonna start by saying this was an amazing read from start to finish. I still have yet to buy and read the first book in the series, but that'll happen soon.

The character interactions, development and drama in this one were really good. I wasn't expecting what happened to Scarlett, but I liked that everyone got an epilogue to tie up loose threads. Ember is a great author; I definitely recommend her.

This book was the perfect finale for this epic series. I loved every minute of it and love how it all came together, the different quests, relationships, found family, heartache, and fighting for each other. I loved this dark and twisty world and all of the main characters. I will miss them, but am happy with how it all ended. I highly recommend starting at the beginning of this journey with Brutal Rival. I received and arc of this book and all opinions are my own.

Wonderful

This book was a roller coaster ride of emotions and the perfect ending for the Princesses of Ruin series. Each couple is tested and brought to the brink in this book, even the new couple in this book . You will sob like a baby by the end because there are losses as well as triumphs. I loved getting to see a glimpse of what Ember has in store for the future and I can’t wait!

Intriguing, mesmerizing, exciting!

The characters in this book are amazingly layered. Each one with their own abilities, personalities, flaws, strengths, and weaknesses. I have not read a book that has gone to as much detail to set every scene, every moment. There is so much detail. What an extraordinary series this was to read. I look forward to all Ember Holt writes, she is truly an amazing author with a talent and skill for words. A true wordsmith!

The series crescendos in this action-packed finale. With the queen and the evil goddess Ashai at their most powerful, the princesses and their partners embark on separate, treacherous quests. The suspense is high, the stakes are real, and the romance is still beautifully present. This installment brings the main story to a perfect, heartfelt close while setting the stage for future adventures.
