I came to this planet sixty some odd years ago. After exiting my mother's portal, the doctor slapped me around until I started breathing the oxygen. I'll admit, at the time, I had no idea what I was doing or where I was. Being an infant Human, I was completely reliant on the responsible actions of others. It was a time that I have largely forgotten.

I reside in Central Florida with the wife and children. After thirty years in engineering, my time is now spent chronicling the adventures of fictitious heroes. They are off-world, fighting the good fight. For me? I'm stuck here on this planet in this feeble existence that we Humans are all forced to endure.

So, I ask you this... do you wish to escape the bonds of this surly planet we call Earth? Are you looking for a bit more adventure than what the grocery store has to offer? Do you worry about being enslaved by alien androids or six-eyed alien goats with lasers? Pew, pew, pew!

Yeah, that's what I thought. Asking yourself those questions and getting back an answer is the first hurdle to cross in the race to get off this world. Sounds like you are ready to venture out, to put this place behind you.

So crack open one of my books. Take to the heavens and let me shout this out to those who remain: "Watch out universe! Another Human is on the loose!"

Take care and I hope you have a great day!

Stephen

“AMP The Core” sees Don vanquish the Duke, at least for the moment.
The series so far is built on a win/lose sequence with a win almost inevitably followed by another setback. The greater the victory the higher the chance that what will follow is akin to complete disaster.
Don is fighting a war, sometimes on all side, while the Duke is playing a game that only he understands. How do you fight a war against someone who both is and isn't there (you need to read the series to understand that)?
So, as we head toward the final book in the series, it is pretty much a dead cert that something very bad is just around the corner.
I've been thinking about the AMP series and have come to the conclusion that what is lacks in depth, there really isn't any, it more than makes up for in almost constant action. In fact there is so much action that I sometimes think of skipping a few pages - the only thing that stops me is that I would probably end up in the middle of the next battle.
Just one book to go - I ain't stopping now.

It's All out War

The war has begun and a new understanding of what Humantiy is will bring even more problems to fhe fore as a bigger than ever battle begins.
Great work and non stop action battles with new tech leads the way.

Stephen Arseneault is the author of several series of space opera: Sodium, AMP, and Omega all happen in the same universe at 1000-year intervals.

I've been reading these AMP books so I can be ready for the Omega books. And here I am in the next to last one, and I realize that I probably need to read the Sodium books first! So, reading them in order is recommended.

And I like them, improbable as they all are. The pace of discovery of technology by Frig and by finding things left by ancient civilizations is, um, brisk. And I don't mind telling you, there is a series of cliffhangers. Things are always looking dark, then there's a cool rescue, then they look dark, then another rescue, and so on. You could get the whole adrenaline addiction fix as the chapters roll by.

And sure, the dangers are contrived. The good guys forget some of their chops. There's a cool deal where they can "freeze" ships with a field. They only use it some of the time. They use a trick where they open a portal inside an enemy ship and toss a bomb through. It works great, I tell you. But they abandon that tactic while defending a planet, when they have lots of energy and 4 grids to generate wormholes and fab bombs.

They have a whole fleet that they brought from a great distance. It got all chewed up and wasn't available for like 2 or 3 books. Then ... it's ready!

If you don't mind the improbability of these things, you're gonna love Don Grange, and later Knog Beutcher. I find their periodic helplessness irritating, but on other occasions they are way overpowered. And you know what? I'm gonna read 'em all because there's a fundamental question - how does it end?

I care about the characters and can't wait to read the next and next and next.

'The Core' is a huge improvement over the previous volume in the series. There's plenty of action, the story arc advances at a brisk pace, and this volume ends on a positive note. My only real problem with this book is that once again, Mr. Arsenault has chosen to depict the genocide of an entire species that was allied with the humans. There are after all, other, less extreme ways to portray the malevolence of the principal antagonist.

I really like how the story advanced. As with the other AMP books the story is compelling and well written.

I found the battle scene to be a little long/repetitive. I get bored with extended fight scenes or chase scenes in books and movies... So I don't know, maybe it's just me.

Altogether a good book.
