The Good Multi-thread story and compelling, sympathetic characters all with their own flaws and reasons for making decisions.
The Bad During the first three chapters, I wasn't sure if it was one main character point-of-view or three character - each introducing a new chapter. During the third chapter the three different parts of setting up the story finally joined together and things went smoothly from there. Adding a mention in the second chapter of the things happening in the first chapter affecting the main character during the first four paragraphs would have made the beginning of the story flow smoother.
The Ugly While the author has a grasp on the parts of writing which cannot easily be taught (writing good characters and creating a multi-thread story), other tools of writing are noticeably absent from his toolkit. (1) Too many "___ said" for example "Felix looked at me and said" does not need "and said" - over a hundred "said"/"asked" could be removed without affecting the story (2) sentence structure does not vary enough - a lot of the sentences are "noun verb subject" - I started skipping pages from boredom at about Kindle 30% and gave up at 60% (I did skip to the end because I cared enough about the story and skimmed backwards from chapter to chapter until the rest of the story filled in). (3) Lots of dialogue with nothing else happening - no scene description, no emotions, no character action. (4) A lot of sentences starting with the same word. Example: Chapter 27 first page where four of the paragraphs start with "I" and another two with "Munson" - a lot of this has to do with too many sentences following the standard "noun verb subject" format.
Content issues - No one has a problem in his condo with him putting cardboard on all the windows? Really, where is the condo association because I know how obnoxious mine is about things like that.
Read to the end for the story because of interest - did not read about 30% of the material because of boredom.
Picked up while free on Kindle.
ADDITION: Sorry forgot to add how to fix the issue, because this plot is good and the characters solid - this manuscript has the potential to being really good. (1) Work on the transitions in the first three chapters. (2) In MSWord search on "said" and "ask" - find out how many there are (the search provides a count number). Then set a goal to cut that number in half. Search on those terms again - now go to each location and see how it can be changed - maybe change the feeling (muttered, sneered), maybe drop it (... and said.), maybe if needing to indicate the person change it to "joe crossed the room" then have the dialogue. (3) Changing up the beginning of the paragraphs - look at the paragraphs in groups of five - make sure no paragraph start is repeated within a group of five - this has the added advantage of providing the opportunity to change sentence structures by adding beginning and ending clauses - shortening or lengthening sentences (4) Now repeat for within paragraphs having no sentence start repeated more than once within a paragraph; you can have two "I" starts but not three.
Controlled Chaos is the first book in a new series by the wonderfully talented HT Night. In this dark and sometimes frightening story of Hunter Simon…a man who is on a collision course with fate and who must come to terms on how his life has changed after being attacked one night. The dream seizures he suffers play a big part of this story and Hunter must figure out why he is having them and what they mean. He discusses them with his best friend Steve who along with a friend on the police department, Archie Munson they come up with an answer for these deeply disturbing nightmares. What ensues in this engrossing story is totally brought to life by the writing talent of Mr. Night who brings the reader into the story by his descriptive tale telling. I could feel the pain and envision the nightmares that Hunter was suffering as I was reading. I thoroughly enjoyed this new adventure that HT Night is taking us on with this story and I am looking forward to the next book to continue this entertaining new series!

It was extremely interesting. A unique slant on a paranormal story... with a twist. It had great characters, emotion & depth. The story got touched my heart.
I have a background in counseling in the mental health field. Although this book was different in it's slant, I related to many of the feelings, thoughts, frustrations and grief that Hunter had struggled with.
I think that most people could relate to at least some of the emotionally charged issues in this book. Most people have felt frustration, helplessness, loneliness, loss...
I was sad when this book ended. I wasn't ready to let go of the story.
Controlled Chaos - This series is going to be great!
I love the characters in this series so far and can't wait to get to know them on a deeper level. My interest is piqued and I am ready to read the next book in the series. I think H.T. Night has put a different spin on this vampire story and it is going to be interesting to see how it plays out.
This story definitely left me rooting for the various characters, especially the cool-as-hell Hunter. The next book cannot come out soon enough for me!
