A year has passed since Clover Kwon witnessed the brutal death of her boyfriend, Frankie, and even with the help of a therapist she is unable to come to terms with what she saw that night. Not only did she lose Frankie, but Clover’s best friend, Saskia, hasn’t spoken to her since.
Jared Van Clayborne seems to have it all. He is a gorgeous, newly-turned vampire, an heir to a fortune. On the inside, he’s a mess. Atrocities he’s committed in the past year torture his thoughts. Jared is forced into counseling, but because he must keep his vampirism a secret, it hasn’t helped.
Jared makes a desperate decision one night, but fate brings him face to face with Clover, a girl he had a crush on when they were in elementary school. A passionate magnetism draws them to one another. They both have secrets, but find solace in each other’s arms.
Things begin looking up when Clover is finally reunited with Saskia. The young women are determined to figure out what happened to Frankie, and launch an investigation to bring those responsible to justice. As Clover and Saskia start piecing together clues, it draws the attention of some powerful individuals and puts their lives, and everyone around them, in jeopardy.

Cate Farren was born in Sheffield, England. She writes paranormal romance, urban fantasy and steamy romance. She loved Dr. Pepper, spaghetti bolognese, and her adorable cat, Gracie.
I'm staring into my notes (yup, I actually pulled out an old-school notebook and was taking notes) and I'm thinking really hard what to write down. I know it's best to start with something nice so that the rest will be easier to bear. But there's nothing I can do about it. It is so B-class horror you won't believe it. There are heads exploding, people making out while stakes are lodged in their ribcages, step son and step mother banging one another for hours on the kitchen table, heads are being ripped off... Really, I was magically brought to the 80's. And maybe then it would stand a chance or maybe if I were a kid I would find it amusing (perhaps not because the sex scenes would make no sense to me) but now all I can do is cringe. First of all, the characters are terrible. Their psychological portraits are just not right. There are many crazy and odd people in there but freaks just don't act like that. It was way too obvious and everything so melodramatic. The main pair in this piece of crappy literature was very disproportional and made no sense. Their "oh, I love you to the Moon and back forever" just seemed fake and I couldn't shake off the feeling that I was reading two books which the author somehow accidentally mixed together and what was in front of me was a very unnatural creation.
This was an enjoyable read. I liked the set up and how all the characters are introduced to the story. I especially like the fact that so far in the story love doesn't conquer all. It'll be interesting to see how the characters develop as well as the story. It's be nice to see how Clovers life goes. Does she make up with her family? will she go to college?
And I was looking for a good vampire series....And voila!!! I got one. It didnt seemed that way at first with the questionable sexuality of one of the vampires but man I was so excited when I finished this book!!! This I will continue. Thank God the author. I was having a vampire withdraw.....
This is a good book. A little bit of a different take on vampires and other paranormal creatures. It has action and more action. Good story line and good characters. So get yours and enjoy.
Literally CRAP! IM SO MAD RIGHT NOW! For one, Clover and Jared don't even meet till the middle of the book. In the beginning of the book Jared is with someone different which you automatically find to be a Man and only confuses you (Bisexuality is stong in this book) which honestly is a huge turn off, sorry no offence but this had no warning before I picked it and would have avoided it if possible.
This book is not your average vampire book it is sooo gross the way you become a vampire like some people should NOT read this book! The part where they have to drink "Vamp" blood involves a person drinking it, then regurgitates it, drink up the regurgitation, AND CONTINUES TO DO IT, till they can't puke up anymore?!?!?!? EEEWWWW WHY??? Some naive fucked up mentally sick freak could possibly really try this, thinking they can become a "vampire" just from reading the book!
EVERY main character also have fucked up backgrounds! I dont know where to being. First clover has a drunk for a mom, a whore of a father, and the whole town calls her Crazy Clover, so she cuts her self and goes to therapy with her Aunt to dull the pain from everything besides losing her ex boyfriend Frankie. Second Jared is Bisexual, his mother left him when he was young to his father because his father couldn't keep his dick in his pant's for too long, his father also was a rich motherfucker who liked to rape the maid of the house; who Jared tries to turn into a vampire and fails because his vampire mentor is an immiture little slut (daughter of "Dracula"). AND Third, Clovers best friend Saskia has a mother who is a conniving fucking BITCH who tries to blame Clover for the death of Frankie even though Saskias mother knows all about Frankie's death! EVERYONE has issues and it's all very enoying!
There is no happy ending either because Clover tries to kill Jared and almost succeeds, UMMM What the fuck? Who doesn't want to encourage forgivness? Also yeah vampires aren't able to conceive in this book so we end up with Clover pregnant in the end because she has the blood for it, which makes her special but goes to find out she had a miscarriage trying to kill Jared?
That my friends is just the brunch of things, there is sooo much more I don't like about the book and Jared's thought process is NOT a good seed. Just a really TERRIBLE book avoid at ALLL COST🤬😖
I CAN NOT BELIEVE I READ THE WHOLE BOOK😬🤐

Ok so I might be getting Stockholm Syndrome- strike that I know I am- but this was pretty fun. The characters were not only not psychopaths but also entertaining and quirky, the pacing was tight and fast, the plot didn't drag and I didn't see much coming.
That doesn't make this an amazing book, not at all. While they are fun, I never related to the characters or felt they were real due to the really disconnected limited narration, and the lack of description pretty much left them as floating body parts. There's definitely times where the pacing could be worked on but it's hidden by the really fast pace of the story, which is a bad thing in the more dramatic, sad and quiet moments.
I really liked Clover tho. She's hurt and traumatized but she pushes through, has an epic friendship with her bff Saskia and actually stands her ground and pushes toxic people out of her life when they refuse to help themselves. If this had been worked on more, she'd be in my top 10 heroines for sure.
I can't ship her with Jared at all, even with what happens at the end. Al throughout the story I felt like he was set up as a kind of villain protagonist, a psychopath who thinks he's doing good. He kills people, breaks people's hearts, manipulates and lies with barely a shrug. But with the thing at the end, I'm thinking this might be due to the really distanced narration- fail.
but why is only Frankie the one he cares about like he killed four people didn't he why are they never mentioned
I liked the world fine, I guess. 100% average, except that moment where a guy says "the shapeshifters were all wiped out" and then the author takes time to show two people looking at each other in the most suspicious way possible when surrounded by the people they are trying to lie to. She clearly doesn't know people will always assume a said-to-be extinct race is still alive because drama.
I pushed and pushed to get through Summer’s Deadly Kiss by Cate Farren, I really did… but at nearly 70% into the book, I’d had enough.
The plot/premise of this book wasn’t bad. It isn’t that I even particularly disliked the characters… but the writing itself is what ruined the book for me. Everything was so contrived, so utterly forced, that I couldn’t enjoy it. The romance between the main characters was a joke. There was no tension, no romance… they hardly even knew each other, but the author threw in a weak backstory of the two being in puppy-love as 10-year-olds to explain their instant love for one another. It was gross. I’ve never seen a romantic relationship as fake and forced as this one.
The technical aspects of the story were no better. There were many misspellings, missing words, wrong punctuation, and general typos. Whoever the editor was, they clearly didn’t do their job.
Overall, I can’t recommend this book – it was poorly written, and you shouldn’t waste your time.
I didn't think this was written particularly well. The storyline was ok at best and I didn't really like some of the forced dialogue. The characters just weren't believable enough for me. I love vampire books but thought this was lacking in the depth I normally enjoy. That being said, it got a bit better towards the end so I suspect book two will be better but I have too many other things I would rather try. The elements are all there but there was just something missing for me.
I am always looking for good vampire reads, unfortunately, Summer's deadly kiss is not one of them, far from it. You know those really cheesy horror movies you can't look away from no matter how bad they are, well Summer's deadly kiss was just like that. I love my fiction to take me away to new places but this story wasn't even close to taking me anywhere there was nothing I liked about it at all.
This book isnt what I though it was going to be. I kept going back and forth from interested,to tolerable, to ugh (that part is from reading one of the vampires turning into a bat and Dracula being her father..among other things)
A decent, quick read. Perfect for the gym or some light reading before bed. I felt it lacked a compelling storyline at times and characters were a bit lackluster. Overall, not bad for a free book!
I didn't get too far into this one. It was exceedingly difficult to figure out who was speaking at any given moment so it was hard to understand what the heck was going on.
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
I'm still not 100% sure how I feel about this book. it kept my interest, so I will definitely give it that. though, I'm not sure if I continued reading it because I actually liked it, because I started it for my book club book and felt obligated to finish. or because I'm addicted to reading and just had to. I didn't really feel much emotion until the end, which is uncommon when I read. And I honestly wasn't sure if I wanted to buy the next book until literally the last page. Well, I did. It's a book worth reading, especially since it's free on kindle. Read it and decide on your own if you like it. :)
taking a quick break from a more heavy in depth story heavy series - this was perfect.
very light reading, no real brain power or thinking needed and not a bad story. gets better as it goes along.
I have to say ...if ever there was a boom yo define YA reading - this would be it.string language and the sex scenes are mild but definitely a ya book.
good to keep your reading goggles on but not too heavy either!
Really liked this book and the story line was better than the stsndard girl meets vampire falls in love repetitive same old same old so even though I'm all about the free books, I am purchasing number two right now!
The author has shown how easy it is for one individual to change the lives of so many others. Kept my interest all the way through. Can't wait to start the next book in the series.
This story has all means of paranormal beings available. It shows a boy turned vampire falling in love with a Human girl he knew in grade school. Can she accept that this vampire could have killed her boyfriend?
This book is the perfect mix of horror-comedy, cheesiness, and YA-style character development. It was an easy read, and I got sucked right into the story. I don't think I'll finish out the series, just because I have so many other books to read, but this one was good. I'd definitely recommend it.
