Power, fortune, and prestige… Greed, threats, and dangerous liaisons… Nothing is worth your life, but is your life worth living?

Injured by a concussion in one of the accidents, the agonizing realization is that his not-so-perfect past is coming into clear focus.

Soon he begins to realize that was important is no longer that significant.
I live in Southern New Jersey with my amazing wife, who is also my best friend. We live just outside of Philadelphia and about an hour from an awesome selection of beaches. It was on a beach that I wrote my first short story and I love to spend as much time as possible there. There is something so invigorating about the sun and the blue skies.
When not working on writing books or my blog I am a husband to an amazing woman, and a father to two fantastic young adults. I am also a corporate finance professional that spends the rest of my time helping executives and business leaders improve and grow their business. It is some of this experience, which has helped bring this story and the sequel to life.
What a wonderful, inspiring debut from the very talented David E. Gordon. ‘Cutter’ was an absolute dream to read and can honestly say it is an amazing read!!!
Firstly, I would just like to say a massive thank you to David for giving me the privilege to receive an arc of this magnificent book. I absolutely loved it and devoured every single page. ‘Cutter’ is fantastically written and you can tell how much time and effort has gone in to the whole process of writing; from the research, the plot and the characters, the attention to detail was exquisite. It pulled at my heart strings and by the end my eyes were glistening with happy tears.
From a very young age Robert Cutter learned that if he wanted something, then he would have to work hard to get it. So that's what he did. He grabbed life by the balls and went the extra mile to get what he wanted when it came to it. And in the long run, it had paid off.
But now, everything is changing.
“For most of his life he had been, “the boss”. Now he was starting to feel as if someone else was pulling the strings.”
After a number of attacks, it is soon realised that the attended target is in fact Robert himself. But the question is who? and "What could be so important that they were willing to kill him for?"
These attacks have just put in to perspective how short life is. His whole outlook in life changes and makes him think differently.
"For the first time in his career he did not want to be in the middle of it, he wanted to stay right here in New York."
He wants more in life, and wants to give back to those who have nothing.
And...
"Nothing was going to stand in his way now. Nothing and no one."
I fell in love with Robert from the start. He wasn’t an arrogant, arsehole of a CEO. He was kind, generous and really took care of those around him. He was passionate about his projects and wanted the best outcome. He had a heart of gold but he didn’t take any bullshit from people either, no matter what their status was.
I also loved Joseph, Robert’s right hand man. He took care of everything, from his security to wardrobe advice. He was always there, and in my eyes they were more than just trusted work colleagues. He was his best friend, the one person he could rely on and the one person who knew him better than himself. You could feel the bond between them and throughout the book it seemed to only grow closer and stronger. Joseph was definitely the person you’d want to have as a friend and colleague.
David gives us no little inkling who the person behind the attacks are at all throughout the book, until near the end. When I found out I was truly shocked, especially when you click on to the whole extent of the reasoning behind it. You will not expect it at all, even if you're trying take a guess at it.
There are many secret and unanswered questions unveiled throughout the book. David really has done a wonderful job at covering them all so that no stone is left unturned. You will get all the answers you need. ‘Cutter’ truly was an amazing read, and I would highly recommend it to everyone.
I love how you also get the cast of characters at the beginning of the book. I felt as if it added that extra touch, and you got to know each character and their roles beforehand.
Thank you again David for this wonderful honour. You have produced an incredible book full of emotion and intrigue which will have the reader enraptured. I cannot wait to see what you come up with next, and look forward to reading more from you in the future.
This book almost feels like an autobiographical, possibly memoirs of Wall Street millionaire. It's a feel good story. There is some drama and tragedy, but mostly it walks the reader through the steps of what it takes start to finish when you take on a humanitarian project. The author is obviously very knowledgable on all subjects of business surrounding the idea. Also, it's a comes full circle story. The reader is forced to think
This is a book that will remind you of what is important in life.
Robert Cutter is a self made man, given one chance at success he grabs it with both hands and reaps the rewards, or does he?
He is at a point in his life were he is starting to realise that although he has everything he could ever want career wise and financially, something is missing.
The book begins with Robert’s flashbacks regarding a young boy, struggling to survive on the mean streets, these flashbacks seem to bring home his current existence and make him question his life choices. Around this time it becomes apparent that there are some serious threats being made on his life.
Between keeping himself safe and continuing managing his business he makes a move to help an area severely affected by fires and during this times discovers some people that will touch his life, and heart forever.
There is a great supporting cast in the book, and many twists and turns to keep you guessing. You do root for Cutter the whole way through, hoping he can save the people he is trying so hard to save, whilst saving himself…
I am giving this review for author David E. Gordon and for Bare Naked Words.
Robert Cutter is a self made billionaire who at 1 time had nothing not even a name but thanks to a cop he grew into the man he is today. When an attempt is made on his life he starts to rethink the choices he has made in his life and realizes changes are in order.
I started reading this and man I got hooked in the first chapter. This is not my usual read but when I got to the end I had to admit I thought the book was great. The author has a way of giving the reader teases into the past as the story unfolds.
This is a great read for anyone who is into the thriller/ suspense/mystery books and you will not be sorry if you pick this up and start reading it.
David E. Gordon has written an excellent story. I enjoyed all aspects of this book. The setting, the characters, and the storyline. For a first novel it is extremely well written. The characters interact well with each other and the story never lags. It's an action packed page turner. I highly recommend!
This book was fantastic. Robert is a wheeler dealer. What starts as a simple idea spirals into a masterpiece of twists and turns. Robert also deals with someone trying to kill him , so much action. I recommend you to check this out.
Wow, what a read. I shamelessly admit I couldn't put it down and devoured it in little time. This is the first book in the series and I'll definitely read the others.
Cutter by David E. Gordon is a suspenseful novel with mystery and romance, set in New York, Philadelphia, and Las Vegas. The story opens with a vividly realistic dream about a hungry, homeless, little boy, and a generous corner store owner who feeds him in a rundown, boarded up section of Philadelphia.
Robert Cutter is a very busy man. Too busy, by some accounts. Too preoccupied, by other accounts. His NYC firm, Cutter & Company, is in the middle of several huge acquisitions: a casino project in Las Vegas and an aircraft project in New Jersey/New Mexico. It is a good thing Robert has Joseph, his right hand man and confidant. Joseph brings order to Robert’s bustling life.
When a CNN report on a fire in Philly airs one morning, an image catches Robert’s eye. A store sign on the TV screen is the same sign as the one in Robert’s dream. Robert is drawn to the site of the fire in Philly. While touring the destruction with Joseph, Robert meets Mikhail, a six-year-old boy who captures his heart and eventually changes his whole outlook on life. But, what is the connection between the homeless boy from his dreams and the little boy from Philadelphia?
After his evening with Mikhail and the other residents of the burned Philadelphia neighborhood, Robert creates the Cutter Foundation. The Philadelphia project becomes its first mission – a Herculean experiment designed to turn a six block, dilapidated neighborhood into a thriving, humanitarian utopia. But, can the Philadelphia project succeed, or will Robert’s pet project get tied up in political red tape and bogged down in legislative bureaucracy?
Meanwhile, someone is trying to kill Robert Cutter. He doesn’t know who; and, he doesn’t know why. And, since Robert travels so often, he doesn’t know where, or when, the next attempt will happen. Robert and Joseph need to find out who is behind the attempts, before an attempted murder turns into an execution.
And, there is a budding romance between Robert and Shannon Adams, an ER physician who just may be the key to his emotional healing. If, Robert can find the time to be with her. If, he can find the courage to let her into his world, both past and present. And if, he can manage to stay alive.
Cutter is the ambitious, debut novel from David E. Gordon. Cleverly hidden within the day-to-day activities of CEO Robert Cutter are a variety of plots, and subplots, designed to keep the reader engaged and guessing until the very end, where everything ties together nicely.
I would be remiss if I did not mention that there were omissions, typos, and a few grammatical errors which reduced my overall rating.
Yet, I do recommend Cutter. Mr. Gordon has weaved a worthwhile, character-driven story. 3 ½ stars

This book was about big business deals with action, suspense, mystery, and romance mixed in.
The story revolves around Robert Cutter who is a Wall Street big business man. He buys companies and makes them worth even more money. This isn’t a type of story that I would normally pick up to read but found myself very interested in the business dealings story lines. It made me want to go work for Robert Cutter and that isn’t even my line of business!
While the storyline focused on the businesses and how the deals went from an idea to completion, there was also a mystery that was introduced into the story. The first incident seemed to be random but as we read further into the book, we learn that it is the beginning of the mystery piece of the story line.
Robert Cutter keeps having dreams about a little boy and our heart breaks for this little boy even though these are just dreams Robert is having. As we get further into the story, we see that these dreams actually have more meaning and at one point, I had an A HA! Moment as to how these dreams related to the story.
As mentioned, there is romance in this story as well. With the rest of the sub-stories that are in this book, this started off innocent and slow until we realize that it is a relationship that is forming. There was suspense in this book too! I felt like I had to be ready for something to happen at any moment and would find myself relaxing when I realized nothing was going to happen. But when I thought all was well, BAM! I was in the middle of a tense situation that I didn’t see coming.
I really liked the way this book was written. All the sub-plots were introduced slowly as part of the main story and all end up coming together in the end. There were a lot of story lines packed into this book but it was so well written that it was not until after I finished the book and thought about it did I realize how much was in the book and how well these plots integrated into the main story. Cutter was easy to follow and all the sub-plots fix in perfectly without taking away from the main theme. I have read books before where there were a few different story lines going on and it felt forced. Not with Cutter. Everything flowed seamlessly and the sub-plots enhanced the main story as opposed to taking away from it.
After reading the blurb, and excerpt, I decided I really needed to read this books. I just finished CUTTER and let me tell you it is a story that will grab you by the heartstrings and make you want to read more. It's a story I can relate to 100% as I've been that little boy. Have you ever felt so alone in life even with others all around? Have you ever struggled to survive not knowing why the bad things are happen? Then this story is for you. It's about a billionaire who has every thing money can buy but no one really by his side to share it with. It's about a little boy who is alone, homeless and doesn't know where his next meal will come from.
Billionaire Robert Cutter seemingly has it all until the front of the building he lives in literally explodes in his face. Robert realizes that some one is trying to kill him but he just cant figure out who. In the mean time he decides he needs to get back to business as usual. After watching the news where he sees a fire has destroyed an area in Philadelphia that is unkept and run down by its owners, he decides to do some thing to help those lost souls that are not only homeless but without their possessions.
Robert is also having dreams of a homeless, cold, and very hungry little boy that is alone in the world. And the police officer who gives him the kindness he needs.
This story has a mix of every thing; mystery, suspense, romance, a struggle to survive and to succeed. A story of loneliness and desperation and a happiness that can only be achieved from with in the heart and soul.
Read the book and when you get to the heart of the story youll truly understand That's all I'm going to say, you'll have to go check it out for yourself to see how great a story this is. Erin's Review After reading back to back erotic thrillers, I tackled Cutter looking for something different and got more than I bargained for. This book is full of suspense , you figure nothing out until the author wants you to and you have a main character that draws you in to his world and you have to find out what is next. I was shocked when I found out this is the author's debut novel. The story flows effortlessly and the plot is well developed. Robert Cutter is a man who has everything. He isn't ruthless or hard, he is just successful, very successful. He keeps everything at a distance and isn't one to open up. I found him to be someone I needed to know more about. He is the type of character you want to have a happy ending and you know there is much more than what he shows on the surface. His story is one that will make you think. It will make you wonder about just what is important in life and will make you want to do something to make someone's day just a bit brighter just because you have the ability to do so. It humanizes what could otherwise be a very ruthless character. This is the kind of book I need on my bookshelf. And while it is a break from what I normally read, it is a solid 5 star from me. I can't wait to see what the author has planned for his readers next and I can only imagine it will be just a good as Cutter.
Cutter is based around Robert Cutter. He’s a self-made, extremely wealthy man who has everything he could ever want in life until he starts to think that something is missing from his life.
When attempts to take his life come to front, he starts to question the decisions he has made in his life and decides he needs to start making major changes to value what time he has left and so begins his journey of self-discovery and helping other people who really need his help.
For such a messed up childhood, which are spoken about in flashbacks, Robert really does have a heart of gold.
There are numerous twists, turns, thrills, shocks, suspense and mystery that is thrown at you while reading this story and I loved every minute of it!
A fantastic mystery thriller from the author!
I’m looking forward to reading his future work.

i really had a hard time rating this book. this is probably one of the best books i've ever read. the reason it's not 5 stars is that it was a bit long and verbose in places as well as the writing being a bit 'clunky' and almost stilted at times. however, overall the writing was good, especially for a first time author. the story was life affirming and beautiful. it almost seemed biographical, robert's life story. i know there are men out there like this doing these great things...if this is completely fiction, mr. gordon you are a brilliant storyteller.
there are so many great characters in this book, there is no way to cover all of them. mr. gordon if you wanted to write a book about joseph, i'd be ok with that :)
i implore everyone to read this book, you will not regret it.
When Robert Cutter was a boy he had a less than desirable childhood. As a man, Robert Cutter is the highly successful owner of Cutter & Company, a company that acquires other companies. Robert is having nightmares that are affecting his life. One day, while watching TV he sees something that immediately takes him back to his recurring nightmares. He decides to investigate and finds a little boy who is very much like the little boy in his nightmares. There are so many edge of your seat moments and little love and a whole lot of inspiration thrown in as well. It's well written with no cliff hanger but I'm looking forward to reading Another Cutter to take me on another adventure with the dashing Mr. Cutter.
When I first started reading this book I was not sure what to think of it. There are many types of writers some rely on dialogue, others rely on the your imagination to drive the story. With every word that David E. Gordon does. With every word, he draws you deeper into Cutter's world. You feel Cutter's loneliness in the beginning of the book like a heavy weight on your heart. As Cutter finds his passion for life again, you feel his excitement and his longing for everyone to feel the way he does. I enjoyed being a part of Cutter's journey and know that I will be a lifelong fan.
