Nora Mitchell is a small-time cop on a small-time beat. The quiet, peaceful town of Marion hasn’t seen real crime since Nora was a child, and she’s beginning to grow tired of writing tickets to her neighbors and bringing in the occasional petty-thief… but that’s all about to change.
When a woman is found murdered in her home, Nora gets much more than she bargained for as the ritualistic killing confounds the police and terrifies the town. The people are quiet… too quiet. Somebody knows something, but nobody will talk. With deceptively simple clues that seem to lead nowhere, the only evidence to be found does nothing but taunt the new detective. The worst part is, this is just the beginning.
The Sun Killer is a look into a world of violence and death where nothing is as it seems. The second series of author Diana Dwayne begins with a bang. The Sun Killer will keep you guessing, and you won’t believe what comes next.
As a reader who enjoys mystery and action other than paranormal and contemporary books, I find this book thrilling and stimulating. From the moment I first read its blurb, it already intrigued me. And guess what, it didn’t disappoint. I love the author’s writing style so as how she draws the witty and snarky lady Detective Nora Mitchell. The action is superb and smooth and just cleverly thought out. It had my mind seriously blown from the first up to the last chapters. This is absolutely a well-consuming book! For those readers who love mystery and detective stories, this one should not be missed!
I found this suspense novel to be an extremely good read that keeps you guessing who did it and who might be the next victim. what an interesting read. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes good books
I absolutely loved this book. Keep me on the edge. Could not put it down till finished. Now I hope there is a next book. Love this author. Read it! I don’t think you will be disappointed. THANKS!!
Not a bad book at all, a nice quick read. The story was engaging enough, the mystery mysterious enough etc.
If I had to pick at it in any way I'd say that there was perhaps too much of an effort to tick "issue" boxes and the sexism angle seemed a tad overplayed. I appreciate that there is an unacceptably high level of sexism within the authorities in reality but the portrayal in this book seemed to be a bit too heavy-handed. Those acting sexist just jarred a bit, rather too obviously there in an attempt to portray sexism etc. And it's pretty much everybody, including some that the main character supposedly likes. And there was no punishment or solution, not really, but it was there to tick the box.
These problems are largely in the first half of the book or so. Once the story starts to pick up pace things seem to level out a bit and there isn't so much that is overbearing.
I don't want to take too much away, I've read far worse books for sure. This isn't going to win too many writing awards but it is a perfectly good time-killing read. And most of the time that is exactly what is needed.
This police procedural displays a remarkable lack of knowledge about police procedures, has a dull and far-fetched serial killer plot, a bizarre attitude towards women (minor characters are dismissed as "bimbos" for reasons that are never clear), and ends with a cliffhanger. The MC is clueless, a patrol officer promoted to detective on a whim by the police chief, despite her lack of grip on reality (in one scene, she's asked on the stand if she abused a man in her custody and she says no, "not sure if she is lying").
The murder "investigation" is this woman driving around exhausted and there's barely any actual detective work before a rushed feeling ending and then a reveal that this isn't the end at all and you have to buy the next book to find out what is actually going on.
3.5 stars... It would have been 4 but it is part of a series.....
Seriously??? This book ended on the cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers.... So many unanswered questions and so many new suspicions. Normally I loathe series... I avoid them like the plague. But since I'm doing the popsugar reading challenge and this book was recommended by my sister I read it. Now I'm hooked. I have to go out and buy the rest of this series, because I would not get any sleep until I have found out what this is all about.... :-)
Well done Diana Dwayne, this is a brilliant start to what promises to be an excellent series. I truly cannot wait to read the next books.
Nora Mitchell is a police officer in an an all male and very sexist force. She has learned how to deal with it. When news of a murder shakes the force and Nora is one of the first officers on the scene, she is fascinated with what she sees. But soon, the Detective on the force shows up and upon seeing the body, has a very nasty bodily reflex in the crime scene. The Chief shows up and sends the Detective walking and promotes Nora immediately. Not only does she have a good eye for the crime scenes, she can piece together clues. You HAVE to read this book. I couldn't put it down.
To begin with, I missed the #1 after the title, so was mystified by the ending! Now that I know it's part of a series, I feel a little better :-) It was a pretty easy read, and a decent storyline. Some of the interactions between the detectives seemed to be stretching it a bit however. I just may pick up the second book to see what happens next!
interesting plot. the characters grew on me. I'm buying the sequel. I'd like to know more about Nora Mitchell...like how was her dad murdered and why. and does this serial killer have anything to do with it?
I did not enjoy this book. I did not like Nora. I did not care for the foster brother or hearing about his husband. I only finished it because I wanted to find out who the killer was...that question is to be con't in the next book ..maybe. Guess I will never find out..and that is ok with me.
This book just did not do it for me. It was different but hard to get into. No real suspension or thrills. It was just plain and lacked excitement. I almost didn't read the entire book.
Received this book from ebook discovery in exchange for an honest review Great reading. Enjoyed the book. Suspense all the way. Thank you for giving it to me. Will certainly continue reading from this author. Jackie
I have put part two on my wish list, it ended on a cliff hanger which I hate but so well written I want more but considering it was free there's a cost to it, as it looks like it will cost a lot to find out who the killer is x
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
