After an accident, Jessica Kyles finds herself in a gorge that ends in the crypt of the Valtess family. Stunned by such a gift of fate, the girl arranges a mess, wanting to break out immediately. But there, she is detained and put on trial. Jessica's hopes that this is an extended, stupid prank from her friends are shattered when she finds herself on the dirty streets of an unfamiliar city.

Trying to realize how to find a way out of this wild reality, Jessica ran into the girl the young lord had bought in the slave market today. Ayselle was trying to escape from her new owner, and Jessica decided to help her. The sharp-tongued girl tried to turn the lord's attention to herself, but the enticement plan failed, and both fell into his hands.

Not wanting to work from dawn to dusk on an empty stomach and then return to a cage, the defiant girl decided in any way to improve her situation. However, rumors about the affair of the lord and the slave of his family reached the ears of the public, and Jessica made an enemy in the person of Miguel's bride, Princess Melania. Still, despite her unenviable position and scandalous reputation, Jessica did not lose her heart and stubbornly fought her way to freedom in this cruel and unjust reality, the lingering question of how—or if—she could ever return home.

Slave of Bad Luck is a thrilling fantasy story about a brave girl who treats any problems with irony and humor. With its richly woven world, unpredictable twists, and a heroine who refuses to be silenced, this story will leave you turning pages late into the night. Perfect for readers who love strong characters, intrigue, and the spark of rebellion.
This fantasy story is bound to leave the reader bewitched not only by this headstrong main character but also by the enticing and traitorous world she finds herself in.

The protagonist of the story is Jessica Kyles. After a mysterious accident, she finds herself trapped in a gorge that leads to the crypt of the powerful Valtess family. Taken captive and handcuffed by them, all she wants is her freedom. When she’s dragged into a courtroom, she has no idea what crime she’s accused of—or who has accused her.

Jessica is sentenced to serve the Valtess family for a week, after which she’ll be set free. During her time there, she meets a young girl named Ayselle, who was sold into slavery. Jessica attempts to rescue her, but their escape fails, and Jessica is branded as a slave.

Lord Miguel, son of Lord Kaor Valtess, is intrigued by Jessica’s fearless nature. Her defiance fascinates him. But what will happen when rumors begin to swirl about a possible affair between the noble lord and his slave?

This gripping fantasy tale is packed with suspense and unexpected twists. If you enjoy thrilling stories with strong characters and emotional depth, this book is a must-read. The writing style of the author is amazing. The character of Jessica will stay in my mind for a long time. I couldn’t put it down—it kept me hooked until the very last page.

Sasha Krupenych introduces us to Jessica Kyles, a headstrong young woman who, after a bizarre accident, finds herself trapped in the dangerous and unpredictable world of the Valtess family. I really enjoyed Slave of Bad Luck. The story hooked me from the very first page. Jessica Kyles is thrown into this dangerous, unfamiliar world after her accident, and her journey is anything but easy.
What I loved most was Jessica’s character: she’s sarcastic, stubborn, and brave. Even when things go horribly wrong, she doesn’t just give up. Her relationship with Ayselle, the slave girl she tries to help, adds a lot of emotional depth.

The world-building is also impressive. The Valtess family crypt, the slave markets, the political intrigue, it feels richly woven, and the power dynamics are complex.
There are plenty of unexpected twists, which kept me turning pages late into the night.

Lord Miguel is an interesting foil: powerful, complicated, and clearly not a one-dimensional villain. And Princess Melania as his bride brings in a lot of tension and conflict.

If I have a minor criticism, it’s that sometimes the slave-system rules and the social structure feel hinted at more than deeply explored. But honestly, Jessica’s strength, defiance, and wit more than make up for it.

Overall, Slave of Bad Luck is a thrilling fantasy read with a strong heroine, political intrigue, and a touch of rebellion. I’d definitely recommend it to fans of character-driven fantasy and “fight-for-freedom” stories. I’m already looking forward to what Sasha Krupenych does next.

Sasha’s SLAVE OF BAD LUCK is a compelling tale of courage, resilience, and defiance in the face of injustice. The story follows Jessica Kyles, a spirited young woman who is thrust into a cruel and unfamiliar world after a mysterious accident. Far from being a passive victim, Jessica confronts each obstacle with wit, intelligence, and a determination that makes her impossible to forget.

What stands out most in this novel is Jessica herself. Her humor and sharp tongue bring levity to tense situations, while her compassion—especially in her efforts to protect Ayselle—shows her strength of character. Despite the dangers, betrayals, and societal pressures she faces, Jessica refuses to lose her heart or her voice, making her a heroine readers can root for wholeheartedly.

SLAVE OF BAD LUCK is a must-read for fans of strong female protagonists, intricate fantasy worlds, and stories that combine danger with humor and heart. Jessica Kyles’ journey is thrilling, unpredictable, and utterly captivating—this is a fantasy adventure that will stay with readers long after the last page.

Slave of Bad Luck by Sasha Krupenych is a compelling read that dives deep into the trials of an individual seemingly cursed by misfortune. With sharp storytelling and a dose of dark humor, the author explores themes of fate, resilience, and the often unpredictable nature of life.

Krupenych’s writing is accessible yet thought-provoking, blending wit with emotional depth.

The protagonist’s journey through a series of unfortunate events is both frustrating and oddly relatable, keeping readers engaged as they root for a turnaround. While the plot occasionally leans on coincidence, it effectively highlights the fine line between comedy and tragedy.

Overall, Slave of Bad Luck offers a unique perspective on perseverance in the face of relentless adversity.

It’s a solid pick for readers who enjoy character-driven stories with a philosophical edge and a touch of irony.

The book "Slave of Bad Luck" turned out to be a real discovery for me. As a fan of strong main characters , as well as love (and not only) intrigues in the plot, I couldn't stay indifferent to this story. The text is very easy to read and is not without humor; each character has a bright personality and plays an important role in the events of the book, which are impossible to put down. You might not even notice how the morning comes after "Just one more chapter, and then I'll definitely go to sleep!". The main character, Jessica, particularly impresses with her bravery and resourcefulness in such unusual circumstances, but the other characters also leave a lasting impression, evoking a whole range of emotions. I'm eagerly awaiting the continuation of this story!

Some books simply inform you. Others quietly change the way you see yourself. Kim Harris’s- The Essence of Eden belongs firmly in the second category.

From the very first pages, this book feels like an invitation—an invitation to pause, reflect, and honestly examine the hidden motivations of the heart. Harris writes with warmth and wisdom, guiding readers through the often uncomfortable but deeply necessary journey of confronting pride.

Rather than condemning human flaws, the author approaches them with grace. Pride is portrayed as something almost all of us struggle with—sometimes loudly, often silently. Humility, meanwhile, is not shown as weakness, but as strength rooted in truth and self-awareness.

Great fantasy with a strong heroine!

I really enjoyed Slave of Bad Luck! The story pulled me in right away—Jessica finds herself in a dangerous new world, and I loved how she never gives up, no matter what happens. She’s sarcastic, brave, and always thinking on her feet.

The plot is fast-paced, with plenty of action and twists. There’s escape plans, passion, and some really intense moments that kept me hooked. The world-building is also really well done—I could picture everything clearly.

If you like books with strong heroines and exciting fantasy adventures, definitely give this one a try!

Take my review with a grain of salt...I liked it overall, however, the author's style of writing was not my favorite.
The story wraps up, mostly, but is a cliffhanger, so expect Book# 2 to follow.
Will I read it? Probably not. I'm not vested in any of the characters and there are a handfull or 2 in just this book. Not all of the characters were developed well & it got confusing to remember who was who with most of the secondary ones.
This more young adult then romantasy, which is fine. I love a good young adult novel but the key word is good.

This was a wierd story and took entirely too long to get through considering the actual plot, which was all over the place. There was a lack of world building and character development which did not help either. Basically, a very long Mad Libs.

3.5 ⭐️ I enjoyed the story and really loved the strong female characters. The world is well built and I got attched to the main characters. I did find that the book has some longer moments, but overall it is a good book, especially for a debut novel!
