Josie Litton is the author of several NY Times and USA Today bestselling romances.
Married and living in Connecticut, she is the parent of two grown children. Becoming an empty nester has left her plenty of time to write, think about writing, plan what to write next, and read. When she isn’t doing that, she’s cooking, gardening, and traveling.
This hurts, because I was thrilled to receive an advance copy of Anew. Litton's "Viking and Saxon" series is a favorite of mine. In fact, I'm planning to reread it very soon.
I thought the premise was interesting, with the heroine being a clone of the leading man's dead lover (it wasn't his doing). I liked that Anew was set in the near-ish future, and thought the world was plausible.
My issue was the dynamic between Ian and Amelia, along with the rushed pace of their sexual activities. I kind of got it, given Amelia needed to be guided, but the D/s aspect didn't work for me. I like a heroine with strong agency (you can thank Diana Gabaldon for that one) I'll admit that how the relationship is written does cause this make sense. Also, the sex pretty much begins right away, which can definitely be okay with me in the right circumstances. Here, it just felt odd.
Anew might totally work for in the future, but at this time, it just doesn't..
I don't think this was enough for me to continue. Amelia and this story is a new one for me in terms of what she is. I'm having a hard time understanding her character and seeing her as a "real" character. I will try Josie's other work.
-I gained this book in return for an honest review-
Where do I even begin with this book?
Confusion. Confusion with characters. Confusion with plot. Confusion with how I felt about this novel. Confusion in a positive. Confusion in a negative.
Worth the read? Certainly. Read again? Certainly not.
The first 15 percent of this story I was about to call it a quits. I thought the book was horrendous. At first I found it interesting because this women was wondering who she was and where she was as she had no memories. That's an intrigue at it's finest as it already makes one go "Well WHO ARE YOU!" but, I found myself quickly fed up with the story because as soon as she lays her eyes on Ian the male love interest those thoughts are gone. Instead she's focused on how attractive he is, and how very much she's aroused by him. I rolled my eyes at this because even if it is an erotic story...come on, erotic stories can have plots too that don't jump right into sex when a character has no clue who she is. Oh no, she just wakes up, sees him, forgets she doesn't know him, forgets she doesn't know who she is, and is more focused on sex.
HOWEVER. Whoop for the author finally pulling me in and letting me get past this. Eventually, you start to see the Amelia and Ian relationship divulge. For most of the book I'd smile at them because they kind of had a sense of humor to their relationship. Amelia was sassy with him, she tested him, she didn't fear him, and he wasn't quite sure how to grasp her. Not only this, but we start to find out who she is, and that made for a very interesting concept. ACTUALLY, for me this book brought out many questions that I can't help but to wonder if our future will someday have some similar relationships with this story. That's what started saving the book for me, the questions I could start asking myself about the future, and the relationship developing between Amelia and Ian.
Now Amelia and Ian did grow on me however, will they be characters I feel the need to learn more about? I don't know. I think I'll eventually read the next novels but, this book didn't leave me going "give me more! give me more' The sex scenes honestly were not all that appealing to me. In fact, I've read young adult novels that have better sex scenes, so it's not like i'm a prude, I just found them rather poor quality for my taste. This also being said Ian confused me in a negative way. One moment he would be kind, not want her to be hurt, and the next he was vile to her, and not in the bedroom. I get some people like rough sex and that's perfectly fine..I had no problem with any of how the sex scenes were portrayed it was how disturbing he was when he tried pushing her away. The Roll Car scene where she can't breathe and she's crying, the moment he grabs her neck (not during a sex scene), the moment he calls her nothing but a sex toy (Not during a sex scene). I don't care what his excuse is. I don't care if he had an awful father. I don't care. There was no excuse for his behavior. He made her cry multiple times because he was so cruel. He's abusive emotionally and physically. The beginning I didn't like them, the middle I liked them together, the ending I was just like "This is stupid."
Also! I caught a huge error in the Authors writing. At one moment when Amelia was with Hayden she tells him Edward is her brother. Then the next page she's talking about how everyone thinks she's Edwards cousin. The plot of this story as well was THAT Amelia was Edward's cousin to all the public. That's a bit of an error. Actually...I think the Hayden and Amelia scene was by far one of my favorite scenes and that's saying a lot considering Hayden isn't that big of a character in this story.
As much as Amelia and Ian's relationship didn't really intrigue me. As much as the beginning made me rolls my eyes. The good parts to me made this a three. These were the banter scenes with the main characters, the family development between Amelia and her 'family.' even her scenes with Ian's family. I liked the side story of Edward and Ian's sister. What really rounded this out to a solid three for me though was the realistic future as it's a future I could see this world turning to, not as soon as the book makes it, but someday. The concept behind this book is interesting, and the descriptions of the world that Amelia is found in our just astoundingly beautiful.
Would I recommend this? Probably not. Do I regret finishing it? No. Will I continue the series? Possibly if I find the rest of the series for a good deal. I'm always willing to give it a go. As I am wondering what is going to happen to Amelia and the world that is at war, or soon to be at war.
I got this book through NetGalley, and was excited to read a Sleeping Beauty inspired SFR. However, I didn't realize that it was erotica, and that is one of the two main issues I had with the story. The first is that Amelia has far too strong of a personality for her situation. She is strong-willed, yet confused. However, that doesn't explain the sexual reaction she has to Ian, or his to her. To say that they are obsessed with lust for each other is putting it mildly. They manage to get to know each other a little, but really spend most of their time reaming out sex with each other. Even in extremely inappropriate and unlikely situations.
I really liked Amelia's character, but found her submission to physical desire to be jarring. Yes, she wonders, too, but it still is not justified by anything else in the story--especially at first. The chapters from Ian's perspective were less strong. I felt that his thoughts were too detailed and simplistic. They were over-explained, and didn't read true, especially for someone who is supposedly so intelligent, sophisticated, and experienced. In fact, the sophistication of Amelia's thoughts would have been a better fit given their circumstances. And while I bought that they were attracted to each other, and found things to like about one another, I didn't buy the possessiveness and inst-lust that they experienced. They can't talk to each other for 5 minutes without jumping each other. It's ridiculous.
Then there is the science fiction aspect. The story brings up some difficult ethical issues, starts to explore them, then simplifies them and uses them for drama. That was disappointing. As was the cliffhanger ending.

It’s rare to find a fresh storyline with all the books that are available these days. However, Josie Litton has not only delivered a fascinating set of characters, but she has taken a classic story to a completely different level.
With Awakened, the first book in the Anew series, Litton has developed a series destined to blaze new ground. The year is 2059 — a time of uncertainty, particularly for the main female character. Without giving away any spoilers, there is something highly unusual about Amelia. This special characteristic serves as the underpinning for the storyline involving Amelia and Ian Slade.
Ian stands out as a formidable Alpha used to getting everything he wants. While there is an undeniable attraction between Amelia and Ian, their path will be full of complications.
This is the type of book that truly clears the palate, providing a tangible example of the magic a skilled writer can create. The erotic element is firmly integrated into the storyline with plenty of jaw-dropping action. Litton has also embedded touches of science fiction and dystopian fiction into the story. While that may sound complicated, the author has found the right ingredients to appeal to the readers.
Although this installment does include a cliffhanger, it is the old-fashioned kind that builds anticipation for the next book rather than making you want to throw your e-reader at the wall. With many books, the reader usually can predict what will happen next. I was thrilled to find that the debut novel in the Anew series lives up to its name.
Awakened is a fast paced read that takes place in a futuristic world. Amelia is a clone. She is awakened not knowing who, where, or how she came to be. She is a clone of Ian's deceased girlfriend. Her journey of recognition and attraction to Ian is intriguing. This is a captivating story with steam that will melt the pages. I throughly enjoyed it.
It contradicts itself when I say I loved it and I didn't, but that's the best way to describe it. The book tends to be slow moving. It's not really boring though because things are happening and the story is moving, but it's just doing it slowly. But at the same time it's so darn beautiful, sensual and painful. The erotic scenes are works of art while still being hot. The push and pull of what these two want and what's best for them is very moving. That ending was cut wrenching. Glad the series is done or I would become been a mad monkey! I am pretty sure I know how everything is going to work out and who the bad guy is and who the good guys are what's between her and her candy eating friend, but I will keep reading hoping I get surprised, but even if I don't, it's still a beautiful story. The imagery is real vivid. That is great, but may also contribute to the slow moving of it. It seems the author gets so caught up in describing the surroundings so in depth that it tends to drag on and I find myself skimming that a lot. So yeah there is a lot to love about this book and a lot to not but keen on. I'm hoping for better in the next two books.
As with all of Josie"s novels, it is very steamy, though with a storyline & characters that you become invested in. Amelia is a "replica" of Ian's deceased wife. Many are not happy about replicas & want to do away with them. There is much emotional turmoil between the two and I'm looking forward to seeing where their story goes.
Like I had stated before the author it’s good but she inputs soooo much information in between that sometimes she loooses me Anyways I love the books Love the stories and the sex acts but she has to loosen up. Bit on the details JESUS It could be overwhelming
DNF 6% too many stuff were described in the first chapter. didn't love it and it got me confused so i found myself passing the pages forward. I loved her historical romance. it is a shame but sorry this wasn't working for me.
ANEW: Book One: Awakened, Josie Litton Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre: Literature/Fiction (Adult), Romance
When I started this book I’d forgotten the synopsis, and went into it blind. It soon became clear there were Sleeping Beauty parallels, and yet its a very different story. Its futuristic and yet not in a star trek type way, has things in it which are beyond our current knowledge and yet – its so believable that this scenario could happen in the future. It’s scary, and with all the current research into genes, embryos and stem cells its possible that despite legislation things could go further – once Pandora's box is open the knowledge can’t be put back, and there are always those who wish to push boundaries either for power, money or simple knowledge...in that way it’s a terrifying glimpse into what the future could hold.
Amelia wakes but knows nothing about who she is, about her past and yet she knows how to do things, ballet, piano, has a knowledge of events and people from history and current politics. How? Ian, who is the first person she comes across has answers, but seems to want to avoid giving them too soon. He’s not being as cruel as it first seems. Once we know more about the story we can see that its something new and shocking to him too.
Once he tells her more she’s shocked and I so felt for her. It must be an awful thing to happen, and then when her memories of her past creep in – wow – what a nightmare. Its like those times when someone wakes from being in a vegetative state for years, and says they could feel and hear what was going on but was unable to communicate...how awful.
For Ian she’s come as a shock, he wants to resent her, he didn’t ask for her and yet she has a pull for him he can’t ignore. He’s scared though that he will hurt her because of his past. For both of them too there’s the dilemma of are they attracted to each other because of who they are, or because of how Amelia exists? Its a paradox of free will, knowing their own minds, or are they acting because of other effects on their minds. Ian prides himself on his control so this thought isn’t a pleasant one for him, and poor Amelia, she knows so little about herself she wants to think that what she does is her choice, not something someone else wants her to do.
They struggle after the first couple of days that veer from anger to hot erotic sex and back again, and Ian introduces Amelia to more of her family. There’s so much going on politically though that her entrance into society, into the world of the wealthy and glamoured brings her into real danger. There are lots of different factions in this future world, where the rich seem to have it all and those below are tightly controlled and regulated in what they can do and have. That sort of unfairness always causes revolts and unrest, and some of the groups have spun off into one that directly affects Amelia.
Its a really unusual read ( for me anyway) and it’s so much more than a retelling of Sleeping Beauty. In fact only the first chapter really carries that sense of similarity for me. Ian is a person holding many secrets, and I really liked hm. Despite his wealth he’s a good man, has a loyal staff who’ll do anything to protect him, and even though he clearly is attracted to Amelia, both sexually (and how!!) and to her intelligence, the thought that he might be abusing her by not letting her find her own way is abhorrent to him. Of course he’s also having to face the conundrum of his own position – does he like her, want her for herself, for who she is, or for who she’s meant to be. Its a big Free Will debate for both of them, and one I found very intriguing. I think they have a genuine attraction – but then I’m an incurable romantic so would of course. In reality ( ok fiction reality) the puzzle they face is very real. What happens if one thinks their feelings are real and the other disagrees and won’t let them be together ? Its a real heartbreak and drama potential for the story, even without the danger facing Amelia from other areas. Its a scary book in a way for me, not so much for what it is, but for how it lays out something that could very well happen at some point. Even now we see legislation having to quickly adjust to keep up with technology, especially in the gene and embryo fields, so its not such a far fetched notion that someone unscrupulous would take advantage of gaps. Stars: Five, a fabulous read, and I look forward to the follow up. ARC supplied by Netgalley and publishers.
Ah! I loved this book! This story really surprised me. I read so many books, and so quickly, that most of them start to blur together, the characters and plots all so similar that very little surprises me anymore. Every now and then I stumble upon a book that feels refreshing, and Anew was just that. It's not your average romance story with your average plot, that's for sure.
One of my all time favorite books is Biting the Sun by Tanith Lee (originally titled Don't Bite the Sun). It's an amazing, super futuristic book that asks many important questions about who we really are as individuals and what does that mean, especially in a time where nothing is unique or shocking, and just about everything is acceptable. In turn, when everything has been done before, everything has been seen, and there really are no repercussions for our actions, life ultimately becomes repetitive and meaningless. People push themselves to the most extreme of extremes, just in an attempt to feel something, anything--to try to feel alive and unique, if only for a moment. Biting the Sun is a book that has always stayed with me. I'll always love it and want to read it again and again. This book, Anew, reminded me of it in a lot of aspects, particularly when Amelia is faced with the truth of who she is and essentially has to deal with her own messed up existential crisis. The fundamental questions she has to figure out for herself throughout the book are both intriguing and kind of scary when we think about where our civilization is headed to today.
In Anew, we have Amelia and Ian at the heart of this story. Amelia wakes up with no idea of who she is or where she is. Slowly, throughout the first book, some vague memories come to her, all of which really help to cement and direct her thoughts, actions, and feelings as a character. I think that these memories/recalls, and the consequences of them, help to justify a lot of her actions and opinions. She's not your average heroine facing your average heroine problems. Her sheer existence redefines the mold, so while some of her choices are stupid or frustrating, we have to remember that everything is basically new for her. Though she stumbles from time to time, she does a great job of navigating the odd issues as they present themselves.
Then we have Ian. The man appearing in the distance and the first person Amelia meets upon waking. Who is he? Why is he there, and what isn't he telling her? It's obvious from the get go that Ian knows a lot more than he's letting on, but we don't begin to realize just how messed up and screwy he is as a person until the story develops. He thinks that he has Amelia's best interests at heart, but does he really? Or is he just telling himself that as a cover for his own selfish interests and protection?
Or, maybe it's a terribly misguided combination of both.
I love the odd combination of a not-too-distant futuristic world that straddles the cusp between our current world (2016) and the definite future. The descriptions of NYC kind of remind me of the Capital in The Hunger Games. There are a bit of odd, futuristic elements that clearly place this in a time that's not ours, but there are a lot of very familiar aspects that make it digestible and still relatable.
I'd love to see more futuristic tech things, like their weapons, transportation, etc, in the next books, but I guess I'll find out regardless seeing as the trilogy is completed :)
My only real complaint, and to me it's a big one, is the editing. Oh my word, it really, really needs help. So many grammatical errors, incorrect uses of words, etc. It's painful. I can easily overlook a few, but it got to the point where it happened on every page and I started highlighting the errors just out of curiosity to see how many I saw. I would have rated this five stars if it weren't for that. It's sad when poor editing starts to distract from the story. It pulls me out of the plot making me lose focus. That's frustrating :(
Overall though, it was a great first installment to this trilogy and I'm so excited to start the second book. I'm reading this under my Kindle Unlimited, but I liked it so much that I'm going to buy it just so that I can read it again whenever I want to. Great job Josie Litton. Keep up the good work! :)
That book was something else! I was pretty surprised that it really captured my attention in the second half of the story. It was different than I expected it to be but not a bad different. This was a futuristic/dystopian kind of novel. I don’t usually, if ever, read those types of books. It wasn’t a completely horrible, war torn, no society, no order, type of dystopian future but it did have some elements that made me wrinkle up my nose a little bit. I was expecting the book to be nothing but a romance story but it was filled with so much more. Set in and around Manhattan, everything is polished and beautiful. A little too beautiful. It is 2059 and the city is for the elite. It is for the rich and those who work for the rich. Since the elite believe their comfort and their narcissistic natures are deemed too significant to rub elbows with the less fortunate, the riff raff are kept out of the city by almost any means necessary. Amelia awakens to only find she has no idea where she is nor who she is. The take on the fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty, in this novel, is extremely unique. I did find the idea fascinating but as I continued reading that fascination took a back seat to apprehension. When the rest of the world, in the novel, knows about the idea and treats it negatively, it kind of made me uneasy. I wish I could explain this scenario better, but I’d hate to give things away!! All things considered, Amelia is a very strong character. Being practically thrown into a world that she has never experienced and is finally experiencing at a fast rate would most likely give a lesser woman a mental break down. But Amelia is determined to live and not take this life for granted. Ian Slade is a formidable man. A pioneer in defense technology and a maker of his own fate. But this man who has control over all aspects of his life has just been thrown for a loop. Forces beyond his control have saddled him with Amelia and he isn’t 100 percent sure where her best interests at heart lie. The control he has carefully cultivated in his life seems to be slipping away piece by very piece, each and every time he comes in contact with Amelia. But he is powerless to stay away. Ian and Amelia’s relationship was very hot and cold, due in large part to Ian’s inability to make up his mind. Half of the story revolves in and around the relationship that may or may not be and the other half has to do with the shady outside forces that are a danger to Amelia and the rest of the world. I wished the characters would’ve just taken a definitive stance and stuck with it. The other thing I wished the novel did was to take a strong stance on the speech. The novel switches back and forth between Amelia’s proper sort of speech and Ian’s more laxed sort of speech, which I found a bit jarring at times.
In the end the story did leave me with a thirst of wanting to know what is going to happen next. It did invoke my sympathy for Amelia and what she went through. It did get my heart pounding for everyone’s safety. And it did make me root for a happily ever after. All in all I have to say for my first seemingly dystopian read it was a pretty good one! I am intrigued to know what happens next for Ian and Amelia and their world at large.
I am a huge fan of fairy tale retellings because I am always incredibly fascinated by the fact that so many people are able to take the same simple story and recreate it in a way that is completely unique. So of course when I heard about this book I couldn't resist it. Going in expecting a retelling of Sleeping Beauty, I was surprised by something I never would have expected in a million years. The story begins with Amelia waking up at Ian's house (the secluded palazzo) and she is hella confused. The book is written in a way at the beginning where you as the reader have no clue really what is going on, which can be frustrating, but I think it adds a really nice touch because you learn about this new world as Amelia learns about it and her place in it. You figure out quickly that this isn't going to be your typical retelling of Sleeping Beauty with a very intriguing twist on why she is waking up without any memories or any idea of why she is waking up in this random guy's house. Besides the sleeping beauty aspect to it, towards the end I was also getting a Beauty and the Beast feeling, but I can't really tell you why without spoiling the book, so if you do you'll have to let me know if you feel that way too.
The story is set in the near future in a world that is very familiar to today, but also quite different. While it is different though, it definitely isn't a stretch that it is somewhere our current world could be heading. In the story Manhattan, where a majority of the book takes place, has become even more a place of privilege to the point where it is heavily controlled who could get in and out. The difference between social classes is also very stark with everyone who isn't rich having to wear a certain uniform so they can be identified. I really liked reading about this society and comparing it to our own society and how it made our downfalls as a society extreme.
As for the characters, I was a huge fan. Amelia is a headstrong girl who knows what she wants, and what she wants the most is Ian. There is a lot in this book about free will and choice which I really enjoyed because there is nothing I dislike more than a girl who gets with a guy because she feels like she doesn't have a choice. Amelia has a complicated past that may make her drawn to Ian even if she doesn't want to be, so with the help of Ian she ensures that it is her choice to be with him and she constantly is making that clear. She also goes through a journey in the book of figuring out who she is as a person without being influence by others which is something I could really relate to and I think most people can relate to.
Overall, this book definitely has it's erotic moments, but I found it to be so much more than just another erotic novel. It explored what would happen if science started to question what it means to be human and if the social class gap became even wider. It explored the freedom we have to make our own choices and how important that is. It explored what it means to love someone and find out that your love for them might not be good for them. This book was an amazing read and I can't wait until the next book in the series in march.
http://badbirdreads.com/review-anew-b...At A Glance Started out interested then...nothing. The Good I loved the concept and the slight resemblance to Sleeping Beauty. Why Amelia can't remember anything about her past is quite chilling. And when Amelia's true identity is revealed, it's devastating. I don't think I could function after finding that out. But she soldiers on, even finding a semblance of a life despite her circumstances.
Ian was a tortured character in a lot of ways. He also has a past that he refuses to let Amelia see, which only pushes her away. But Ian is a good guy, even if he is a little rough sometimes. The world in Anew is amazing. I loved the civil unrest and dangers lurking at every corner. One slip and Amelia's world can crumble. The Bad I was so into this book in the beginning, but soon realized there wasn't much to it. It got really slow and nothing of interest happened. Amelia wants to resist Ian, but she can't. Ian wants to resist Amelia, but he can't. End of story. Come on! That's not enough to make up a good story. We get a peek at the Anew world and the problems in it which was great, but they didn't really lead to anything.
Then that ending. Seriously? You guys know I hate non-endings. This one had a mega non-ending. It just stopped right in the middle of the story. Which meant there was no big event, no climax (well, no non-sexual climax), no bump in the road. Nothing. I am still confused by this. What an fascinating story to waste on that ending. The Snuggly I felt like Amelia had very little choice in her attraction to Ian so when they had sex, I didn't feel super okay with it. It's hard to explain without giving too much away. They have amazingly hot sex, don't get me wrong, but because of Amelia's circumstances, it didn't feel right. Final Thoughts I will not be continuing this series. I feel really let own right now. The concept was pretty good, but nothing substantial was done with it. Not really recommended.
Quotes “What did you expect me to do? No matter what you want to believe, I’m a human being. I have a mind and a will of my own.” With all the scorn I can muster, I add, “This idea you have that I’m a piece of property is nothing short of repellant. You do not own me. No one can. Not ever.”
“When I woke up and realized I have no idea who I am…I was afraid, even panicky. Instead, I felt removed from own emotions, as though insulated from them in some strange way. And then, once you appeared, it got worse. I seemed to have no will of my own…With all of that I don’t know about myself, I’m still certain that being so compliant isn’t natural for me.”
What would you do if you woke up and didn't know who you were, where you are, or where you came from? Everything is a blank, except for a few glimpses of sexual need and arousal. Those questions and more plague Amelia in Josie Litton's newest novel series, ANEW.
In this beautiful like-tale of Sleeping Beauty, the characters are exquisitely crafted to match the amazing story that is arranged skillfully by this author. Amelia, being newly awakened, is lost in a society that she does not understand. She is a gift to the new world in her own right, but many people cannot grasp who or what she really is. Her only saving grace is the man who awakened her, Ian. He invokes so many tumultuous feeling within her that captures her from the moment she sees him and won't dispel. Ian, on the other hand, is seized by the immediate response his body and soul has towards Amelia. He wants her deeply, from the core of his being. However, with outlying forces at work he knows he must protect her, yet at the same time, keep her, control her, own her...
Will this couple be able to master the plan that has been set by Ian's dead friend? Can they overcome the outside world's bitterness and short-sidedness and reach the greatest gift of all..love? Read this book to find out. It will not disappoint you!
From the very beginning this story will draw you into it's fantastical plot and keep you there until the very end. I was imprisoned by the shear magnetism that the characters portrayed. I was amazed by the story's message of how ignorant people can believe that different is bad, but we all know that being different is very good. I absolutely cannot wait to read the next installment of this series, being that the author leaves us hanging on. I'm on the edge waiting patiently for what will happen next. You have awakened me, Josie! ~TSRBR
Would I recommend this book: Yes! No doubt. This book has all the unnerving, sensual romanticism that a book can give and leave you wanting more. ANEW is a beautifully scripted work of art.
Would I read other books by this author: Yes! I love Josie Litton's creativeness. She will capture you and keep you conquered in everything she writes.

Passion, heartache and suspense, this book has it all and will keep readers captivated well after they finish reading it.
“I have to know that you’re safe from any danger… including me.”
Awakened is the first book in the Anew series by Josie Litton. The author takes the classic “Sleeping Beauty” fairy tale and brings it to a whole new level, with a futuristic spin.
When Amelia awakes, she has no memory of who or where she is. The only thing she knows for certain, is the man that walked in the room, all tall and sexy with strength radiating from him, is the key.
Ian Slade is a successful business man and head of Slade Enterprises defense technology company. He has fought hard to get where he is and values control on all aspects of his life. That control is put to the test when Amelia is thrown into his life, or more specifically, she is deeded to him by his deceased lover, Savannah.
Both characters have an instant connection that’s hard to deny. Amelia is determined, and strong, even when she doesn’t always believe it herself. Ian’s character is very dynamic and confident, you can’t help but fall for him. He is ruled by a dark past and struggles to find balance where Amelia is concerned.
Amelia is sent to live in the city, away from Ian. If she hopes to have any normalence, she has to come to terms on what she is, a “replica” of Savannah. Even though there are many differences between Savannah and herself, she struggles with what she thinks she feels and what was imprinted in her. She’s learning that this new world is full of secrets and danger. With vigilante out to destroy the replicas and all that are involved, she is left with not knowing who can she trust and what to believe. The one thing she can’t seem to forget is her undeniable attraction to Ian. The chemistry between the two is explosive and passionate. Josie Litton loves to leave readers panting for more.
“I can’t get enough of you, Amelia,” he rasps. “I want you beyond madness. Where you’re concerned, there are no limits.”
The road is hard for these two, with many obstacles; you will have to read for yourself to find out. I will warn you that the author leaves readers with a cliffhanger, so be prepared. This story is very unique and I loved every minute of it. I can’t wait to see what happens next for Amelia and Ian.

This book was certainly not what I thought it would be based on the synopsis. Geesh, am I glad. It was so much more! This erotic retelling is loosely based on the premise of the fairy tale, but then take a hard left until you run right smack-dab into a Ian’s rock hard abs. The book has a bit of a dystopian feel to it with a touch of Gideon Cross from Sylvia Day’s Crossfire series set in the near future. Think, caste system with Gideon in the future, but he’s just as sexy reincarnated as a dark Ian Slade with his own set of demons trying to navigate unknown waters (aka Amelia).
Amelia wakes up with no recollection of who or where she is, yet images and an innate knowledge begin to bombard her and she KNOWS wants Ian. In the days since she wakes up, she is struggling to find out who she is and if her “will” is indeed her own. Even though Ian is a virtual (but super sexy) stranger, he is there every step of the way to help her discover her world, herself, and him.
As he slowly (well, tries to, at least) show Amelia a world she does not know, he can’t help their magnetic pull. The result? Think, a balcony in the rain, a spa, the gold room… Oh, I know you want to know exactly what that means…I guess you’ll have to read the book!
As an avid lover of romance novels of all genres, I am always so happy when I discover a new type of plot line or a book that has a superb story to support all of the steamy bits that make me blush. That’s definitely what you’ll get in this book. Litton does a magnificent job of dropping discreet hints for the subsequent books in the series as well as making this a cerebral erotic novel. Seriously, Litton burns up the pages with erotic imagery yet keeps you highly interested in the plot twists of the novel.
I am a newly converted fan and you can bet I am going to snatch up every single one of her books! Do yourself a favor…read the book.
When we all hit our teen years growing up we thought we were all that. We could do anything just like our parents cause they taught us how to be just like them in some aspect, we could do anything we wanted without thinking cause that is what growing up is all about. We wanted to be just like our parents, duplicate them in so many ways without consequences. What happens we actually are granted that wish?
Amelia-sweet and unknowing
Ian-hunky, smart and scared
Amelia is the girl with the unknown past. Though as she forges on to finding out who she is and what is going on with her life she still has this nagging feeling within herself that something is array. Knowing the facts are not settling with her. Actually they are disconcerting. Will this woman be able to accept what her life is turning out to be or will she warrant more? Will she have real feelings for the man that has all the answers?
Ian is the man with the possession of the century. He doesn’t know understand why his ex granted him this but has a feeling that this may be the one possession that she was able to give him after her death is the truest gem of them all. He has explanations but will those explanations be enough? Will he be able to move forward and keep his heart intact?
Ian and Amelia’s journey is one for the history books. This is a unique relationship that this author has created. It is stimulating and compelling, sorrowful and mysterious. This creation is nothing less than spectacular. The feelings that have been created within these two characters is heartwarming and loving though feelings should be kept at bay to some extent. For this you will have to read why to understand what I am writing. The sex between Amelia and Ian is so sensual, explosive and revealing. It’s awesome to the fullest.
To the author: Wow there isn’t much more that I can say about this fascinating read.
Anew is definitely an original story. I was really excited to read this book after reading the synopsis. It is different than what I thought it would be. I was expecting a paranormal story or a retelling of a classic fairy tale, I didn't get either of those things. This story is more of a Sci-Fi/Contemporary Romance, if I had to put it in a genre. However, I can't say I was disappointed.
Amelia awakes in a new existence. She finds herself in a strange new world, but she somehow knows about the world around her. She was encoded with information about almost how the world works, current events, etc. See, Amelia is a clone. She was "made" to be the perfect woman for her new "owner" Ian. He is the first person she meets and immediately has an intense stirring for him.
Ian was unaware of Amelia's existence until he acquires her. She was left in his care by his recently deceased girlfriend. It is up to him to protect her and care for her. What he wasn't expecting was his reaction to her. He wants her, wants to care and cherish her, and to keep her safe. Not only does he need to keep her safe from a group that is bent on ridding the world of clones, but he needs to keep her away from his own demons.
This book does not disappoint on the hotness scale, either. I mean, HOLY MOLY! Ian and Amelia sure do know how to steam it up. He is so dominate, but he shows her care. A part of her wants to submit to him, but it is her own stubbornness that makes it interesting. If you like steam, you will LOVE this book.
This book has an original setting in the near future. The author created a world where the social classes are not equal. The wealthy is definitely privileged and takes enjoyment to the extremes. It's in this world of privilege that Amelia tries to find her true self. This books has a something for everyone. I can't wait to read the next book in the series and continue the journey with Amelia and Ian.
As per usual I had a look at the worst reviews before picking this book up on ku - and I decided to give it a go. Did we read the same book??
Anew is slow, sensual and deliciously decadent - it's the epitome of a enhanced modern tale; the characters are well rounded, realistic and all the way through I was think "So?? What's next??" The sexy side of things is hot - so damn hot! - but it isn't talking over the story: while it's an adult book, don't expect a non stop erotica; there is a solid plot and a brilliant character development.
Amelia is thrown into a harsh and difficult reality but despite everything, she never whines - she truly is a strong woman. As for Ian, he is the very first actual Dom I've ever read about. Rather than just saying: "I'm a horny billionaire, let's tie you up," he takes care of his woman and establish his authority whistle respecting her boundaries. Incredibly refreshing.
Amelia wakes up without knowing who she is; Ian knows, but as she's disorientated, choose to tell her the next day; we can sense there's something sordid there and it just keeps you wondering, guessing. When you know, you're like "whaaat? Really?" I loved it - brilliant idea, and definitely out of the norm. There's a movie with something like it, but the book takes it one step further. There's a loving family and a lot of past demons involved. Some of the supporting characters are fascinating - I definitely want to know what makes Edward tick, for a start.
But above all of this, my favourite part is the world created here; it almost feels like a dystopia.
I am now writing my review while eating a cold sandwich as I just couldn't stop for a proper dinner; I had to finish it. It's 1.30 am but as soon as I'm done with the sustenance, I'll have to start the next one because that ending? It was plain cruel.
As a note, an e-galley of this novel was sent to me via NetGalley by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not effect my opinions in any way. To read my full review of ANEW: BOOK ONE: AWAKENED by Josie Litton, proceed to BOOKED J's blogspot location here.
Anew: Book One: Awakened provides us with a retelling of the much beloved children’s story Sleeping Beauty; set in the near future and pulled together in all its erotic glory. It promises intrigue, mystery and all kinds of tension tied together with vivid, unique writing by Josie Litton who put quite a lot of work into this vibrant and startling world of desire and discovery.
We open our story to find our leading lady, Amelia, awakening from her slumber and embracing her obvious freedom. Although she is able to function in her thoughts, her mind is filled with haziness when it comes down to her memories. These thoughts haunt her and beyond the knowledge of life and much of its meaning, her memories grow thinner when it comes down to her past.
Her past, we will soon learn, is… well… I can’t say without giving away the most massive piece of information in the plot. It’s frightening, actually. It’s unique and surely fits the plot. I have to admit I didn’t see it coming and was surprised in more ways than one. Amelia’s got questions and the answers may not come to her easily; in fact, they are very well devastating.
Omg, I loved this book, I very rarely read futuristic books, so this was a new venture for me. This book is set in the near future so it was easy to read and not too full of futuristic terms that took away from this amazing book and storyline. I loved that this book is very descriptive especially in the opening scene, it transports you perfectly into this amazing world Amelia wakes up in, you really feel you are waking up there with her. Amelia wakes up in this strange world unaware of who she is, where or why she has woken up in this place, she then realises she is not alone, enter Ian Slade!!! Omg Ian is an intense man who is seriously hot, he has hidden secrets he is determined not to share with anyone. Ian explains to Amelia that she is a replica of his dead girlfriend Susannah, Amelia then struggles to understand her feelings towards Ian, are they her own or Susannah's replicated feelings??? Regardless of whose feelings they are Amelia and Ian's relationship is sexually explosive and sensual it will leave you totally breathless. Ian finds himself totally confused by Amelia, she should be like Susannah but she is different, her personality is not the same, she is her own person. He helps her develop her own likes and protects her, while all along battling his own demons, desires and attraction to her. I loved every minute reading this book, it was easy to get lost in this story and I am definitely glad there are more books to follow in this series. What an amazing start to this series, thank you Josie Litton.
I received a free digital copy from the author/publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest feedback.
When Amelia wakes up in a beautiful mansion with no memories, she has no idea about the secrets she is about to discover. Or the incredibly intense relationship she is about to embark on with the man that claims her as his own.
Anew is described as an erotic retelling of Sleeping Beauty however I would ping it as both a retelling of Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast. I did have a lot of problems with this book though.
There was definite insta-love between Ian and Amelia, and honestly there were times when the initial plot of Amelia's self-discovery and discovery of the world around her was lost in between the repetitions of 'mind-blowing' sex between herself and Ian. While fantastic and intense sex scenes can be really great to read most of the time, when they just repeat and repeat, it gets boring and predictable.
Ian was very back and forth, as was Amelia. Neither of them could decide what to do, or how to feel and it was pretty much like a see-saw. As soon as one of them seemed to know what they wanted, the other had changed their mind.
This would have been a two-star book for me if it was just based on Ian and Amelia's relationship, however, I did enjoy the sub-plot of the type of New York Amelia found herself living in and the new system of living. It was slightly dystopian which made it very interesting. If I do read more books in this series, it will really only be out of curiosity for what happens in the society.
This is another erotic story about a rich, dominant man and virgin, except the virgin is a human clone of the man's dead girlfriend! Amelia isn't just a clone but has improvements chosen by the dead girlfriend in order to better please the man, Ian. This explains why Amelia and Ian have an instant attraction to each other. It does seem like insta-love or more accurately insta-lust and they fall into bed with each other pretty well immediately. Amelia is disturbed by her instinct to submit to Ian and fights against it. She isn't sure if she lusts for him because she is programmed to or if she has free will. A clone doesn't even have human status and instead is a possession, and she is owned by Ian. Anti-cloning groups threaten to destroy all replicas and the facilities that produce them putting Amelia in a precarious situation. There is a lot of sex but there is also a plot to this story as Ian tries to protect her from the anti-cloning people and Amelia tries to live life like a normal human woman. There is a potential for conflict also between the elites and the lower classes who live to serve them. It is a bit reminiscent of The Hunger Games with the elites in the city being very much like the flamboyant citizens in the Capitol. Everything is set up for an epic war/rebellion which I'm assuming will occur in the next books in the series. I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads. Thank you!
4.5 STARS To be honest I wasn't sure how much I was going to enjoy this book as I'm not usually a fan of futuristic type storylines but this story pleasantly surprised me. Set in about 50 years from now the world has changed and advanced but at the same time many things have remained the same. The story is intriguing and unique and definitely not what I was expecting when I read the blurb but I quickly became engrossed in the story and the relationship dynamic between Ian & Amelia.
I found the sex erotic and off the charts hot as the author vividly depicts the sensual acts Ian & Amelia embark upon together. While the sexual relationship starts quite quickly in the story it was in line with the plot and without spoiling anything, Amelia's characters history has a lot to do with it.
While there are some parts of the book I tried to wrap my head around and imagine what kind of world the author was envisaging as she wrote the book, most of the time I felt like I was reading a romance that could be set in our current time - so not too futuristic.
Josie Litton has a wonderful way in painting the scene of her futuristic world with her descriptive and enchanting words. While this is the first book I've read by Josie Litton it won't be my last and I'm looking forward to reading about the rest of Ian & Amelia's story in book #2 - Hunted :)
