Games for Two #2

The Dating Game

Rate this book
Love does not dishonor others….supposedly.

Brooke Garza only made a dating bet in an effort to help her widowed best friend Sydney find love again. All she had to do was prove that she could date the same guy for three months, then bam! Sydney would have to go on three first dates of Brooke’s choosing. But when a karaoke duet with a near stranger gets out of hand, her boyfriend—and the subject of the aforementioned bet—breaks up with her, leaving her at the mercy of Sydney. In a faux display of magnanimity, Sydney offers her a bet redo— on one she gets to pick Brooke’s next boyfriend.

Enter Will Barrett, her karaoke partner. her very attractive karaoke partner. Dating him for a couple of months might not be so bad…or will it?

Because Will doesn’t seem to be the same magnetic guy she danced and sang with onstage. He’s self-centered, inconsiderate, and sort of a slob. Brooke is no longer sure she can last a week as his girlfriend, let alone three months.

As for Will…well, he might just be playing a dating game of his own. Of course, games for two usually end with both players losing their hearts.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Will Barrett & Brooke Garza
- Dual POV
- Sorta fake dating, dating because of bets 😉
- Forced proximity
- Meddling best friend, sisters, and bible study ladies 😂
- Protective MMC
- Lots of teasing teenagers 😂

✨ a few of my favorite things:
- chapter 1 😂😂
- Reliving that karaoke scene from book 1
- SALSA DANCING!
- Their chemistry and constant pull to one another
- 😂 Belinda & the sisters being sneaky and not subtle at all meddling
- The teens and the sweet and funny moments with them on the missions trip
- Singing worship together when scared and worried
- MCs using their talents to glorify God

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Book 2 of the Games For Two Series - I have absolutely loved these series so far! I have not been able to put down book 1 or 2 and I am so so excited for book 3. (Also I’d love a book for Sydney). I wish I could be friends with these sisters because they are my kind of people.

I absolutely adore that these books are fun and full of Jesus. There are imperfect people not always making the best decisions but coming back to Jesus. We get to read God still using them even when they aren’t actively listening to God.

I laughed so many times during this book and I also died from second hand embarrassment and was wholly modified a few times 😂😅. They have witty, very quick banter and easily slip into flirting because they are so drawn to one another. Will and Brooke are so sweet and take care of each other while also showing up for one another in a ton of little ways.

Can’t recommend enough if you love meddling, embarrassing moments, flirting, church mission trips, teenagers, lots of tension, and worship for the Lord.

This is a closed door Christian romcom with just nondescript kissing, no cursing, and mild innuendo. There are faith themes throughout and discussions about past hurt caused by others and how we are called to forgive as God forgave us.

This was cute!

The Garza sisters have been a fun bunch to hang out with. (This one was the most romcom-y of the 3!) I will say Jill’s was my favourite followed by Hannah’s. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed Brooke & Will’s story here—and the way Will especially wanted to keep Jesus in their relationship & honour Brooke physically was beautiful.

A few little things about lack of communication that felt a bit childish dimmed my enjoyment a bit. But it was absolutely worth the read if you love laugh out loud Christian romance with heartfelt and hilarious moments!

✅Thank you so much @authorheathermiekstyn for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

My thoughts:
I loved the first book in the series. I LOVED this second book in the series.
Author Heather Miekstyn’s writing is full of so much goodness, heart and humor.
The Dating Game follows Brooke and Will on their journey of fake dating…fake dating with a twist ;)
Who will win the dating game?
The love and chemistry between Brooke and Will just draws you in to their story.
I was laughing, smiling and getting teary eyed throughout the story.
A Christian based romance, The Dating Game has a heartwarming and heartfelt message of faith.

While this book had its silly and cringy moments, it was still cute and fun! I definitely liked the last half better. The first 40% you couldn’t even tell it was a Christian book, with Brooke dating terrible men that didn’t show any hints of Christianity despite her being one, going to bars and drinking, the extreme immaturity of the two MCs, and a lack of mentioning God. But then around 40% God FINALLY shows up again, and the book takes a shift in tone and theme. The scenes with the mission trip and doing God’s Will where he places you (plus the romance actually being enjoyable now that their dumb games were over) made the book a 4 star instead of 3 for me!

The Dating Game is the second book in the Games for Two series. While I do think you might get the most out of it by reading in order (as previous characters do make appearances and you might get some spoilers if you read this one first), I do think it could be enjoyed just fine as a standalone as well.

The way that Heather Miekstyn is able to create stories that are truly laugh out loud fun, but also so full of heart and chemistry all while unapologetically pointing back to Jesus!? Simply put, I just love it! This one was certainly no exception! Talk about a way to open a story- I don't know that I've ever read a meet-cute that happened in the air as the characters are about to jump out of a plane, but it certainly led to a meet-cute that I won't soon forget. And then, we cut to a moment that if you've read the first book, you might already remember... worship director Will jumping in for a karaoke rescue. Having read the first book, I loved seeing this scene that I'd already loved from a different perspective. That definitely made the story even more fun for me. But really, Will and Brooke didn't need any help to keep me turning the pages... they were so great together. The chemistry was undeniable... even if they both started off with less-than-ideal intentions. This book truly had me smiling and laughing from start to finish (with a Boy Meets World reference thrown in making it all that much better!) and is one you'll definitely want to experience for yourself.

The Dating Game is a Christian romance with chemistry-filled kisses only that perfectly balances imperfect characters with strong messages of faith.

4⭐️ ARC Review: Another Heather Miekstyn book that is just as wholesome as the last. It has a fun trope that gives off How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days vibes, and I was here for it. The Christian version of course.

I enjoyed so many things about this book, Brooke and Will, their romance, the scheming, the progression of their relationship, Heather’s writing. It was all just a lot of fun. Really the perfect summer romance.

I really enjoyed reading about a God honoring couple. Will and Brooke were so much fun together. I thought the circumstances of their relationship was humorous and made for such a good time. I enjoyed all of the things they did together when they were doing their dating thing. Sky diving, salsa dancing, mission trip, they were so cute together! Will was such an angel, and his little scheme didn’t last very long lol.

Such a sweet series so far. Very much looking forward to the next one. I have a feeling it will probably be my favorite.

WOW. What a beautifully crafted, Christian romcom full of heart, humor, and joy! I am obsessed with this story 🥹🫶🏼
Following the journey of Will and Brooke was SO fun and sweet. From their initial meet-cute to their handful of quirky first dates, I was giggling from the start. The premise of fake dating with a twist was SO much fun and kept my attention to a point that I binge-read this once I started 🙈

I loved Brooke’s heart and how it was in the right place - same scenario with Will - and seeing how they both were good-hearted, God-following people, but we did get to witness them go a little bit astray in their faith walks individually.
Their banter was top-notch and I loved watching them come together as the “fun and games,” if you will, wore off naturally and beautifully. I also appreciated seeing some side characters from book 1 - Belinda was great as always - and with no further context because you have to read to know…can we have a moment for Clyde? 🐿️😂

This story reminds us that any other source of joy apart from our Lord Jesus, is fragile and transient. It was a really beautiful reminder to constantly rely only on God Himself and not that of this world & worldly things. ✝️🙏🏼

Book 2 in the game for two series is another amazing one. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Brooke and Will. The way the author weaves faith, love and personal walk with God is fantastic. Confident Brooke has a hidden vulnerable side, emotional pain from the past and Will is a man who choose to walk with God, making impacts in the lives of those around him even though he has his own share of hurt.
The Dating Game is a book that will make you smile and laugh out loud and at the same time cause you to examine yourself and your walk with God. The interactions among all the characters is wonderful- their friends, the children and teens that they work with even as they embark on a missionary journey. I love how even as their feelings for each other developed past the bet, Will and Brooke still had their priorities right with God and continued setting examples for the young adults.
Yes, the bet was made spontaneously without actually considering feelings but I found it delightful that Brooke came to a true realization of her self worth and an understanding of God's love. Will and Brooke complimented each other, growing closer to God as they found true love. A beautiful impactful journey of hope, new beginnings and love.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The dating game

Tomorrow is release day for The Dating Game by Heather Miekstyn! My love for her books and writing grows with each release. Brooke Garza makes a bet with a friend to steadily date the same man of Sydney’s choosing. When Sydney sets Brooke up with local music pastor Will Barrett, what Brooke and Sydney don’t know is that Will is aware of the bet. Chaos ensues when Will decides to put his worst foot forward to call Brooke’s bluff-even though they already had sparks flying in their initial meeting. This book was so FUNNY!! Miekstyn captures Christian young adult community and dating culture so well I feel right at home in her stories. I really appreciated Brooke and Will’s verbal and active commitment to limit physical contact to honor God, especially during youth group activities. These two characters still had so much chemistry, and I had a smile on my face pretty much the whole time I was reading this story. If you like funny, romantic, swoony, realistic, full of chemistry but clean, faith-filled fiction, then you HAVE to check out Heather Miekstyn.

THE DATING GAME BOOK REVIEW 💙🐿️
this one’s a good one so listen up! 🗣️
.
FMC- brooke. the gorgeous DIVA. she is actually my spirit animal 😅 i love her sass and her connection with God. she is so funny and makes the BEST puns 😂 i also love how caring she is and how hard she tries to protect her heart but also accept people 🩷 she also has some inner turmoil which i SO relate to, and i just love her hard-working ethics and dedication 💪
.
MMC- Will. he is actually soooo funny 🤣 i love his character development and how he realizes some of his choices are… not the best 😅 and he is also super creative and does the funniest things everrrr
but he’s also spiritual and a SINGER and DANCER 🕺 green flag if i ever saw one 😍 he’s also just so sweet and caring and he makes an effort to get to know people and let them know that he cares about them and i love his selflessness. he’s also so goofy but has some reallllyyyyy good one liners 🫠 (and he makes a pride and prejudice reference sooooo 😍)
.
y’all this book is PERFECTION. i love the comedy but also how it incorporates God so much and a lot of their courtship is realizing how much they need God in their relationship 🩷 which i just think is so amazing and the character development is AMAZINGGG so go read it!!

*Book 2 in the Games for two series

Will + Brooke

I loved this book. It was fantastic! Brooke starts dating Will as part of a bet. Will finds out and tries to scare her off so she will lose her bet. Along the way their feelings definitely change and I loved every minute of it. I loved all of the scripture throughout this one and how they would truly seek out Christ for guidance. I thought it was so cool that they went on a mission trip and got to serve together in that way. I was happy to see how they put physical boundaries in place with one another also. The meet cute was adorable! I laughed so much during this book. Brooke is hilarious and all of the things Will did to scare her off had me cracking up! This one had so many great moments especially the kids on the mission trip. I’m really looking forward to book 3!

Quotes -

I hold her gaze letting her search for whatever she’s hoping to find, and I, in turn, trace each of her features with my own gaze wondering if there’s any chance at all that she could ever reciprocate the feelings I’m developing for her.

Like such a wave, Will came crashing into my life and somehow managed to shift the entire coastline of my heart without me even noticing.

“this kiss, kiss me, sha-la-la-la-la-la, just a kiss, are you gonna k—“ is that my favorite line? Maybe. Maybe not. 😏 But I can tell you I know every one of those songs.

There’s only a few times where I’ve read a book that had a chapter than contained swoony kisses, sexual tension, and Biblical truth. And the few times I’ve gotten to read a chapter like that… the book became a favorite.

I love how Heather combines humor, electric physical chemistry, heart stopping emotional connection, and Biblical truth. I loved how this book was full of messages from the Bible that not only grew the characters, but also impacted my heart. It’s one of those books that you finish and your heart is happy because of the happily ever after, and your soul is happy because of how much closer reading that book brought you to God.

Heather, I absolutely love what you’re doing with your Christian rom-coms. And you know you’re one of my absolute faves. Don’t stop. I need a book for Belinda. And Sarah might need her own little HEA, and Sydney needs her story written as well! I need to watch her fall in love!

Thank you for my ARC copy, and as always for letting me blow up your DMs as I read 🤭

This is now my second favorite Heather Miekstyn book! It is fun and flirty, but also full of faith and friendship. I also appreciated getting to see more of Hannah and Luke. 😁

Brooke has taken her friend’s bet that Brooke will date the same guy for three months. When the boyfriend decides to break up after Brooke’s impromptu karaoke duet with another guy then Brooke’s friend grants a do over if Brooke dates Will. Will over hears the bet plan and decides to make things difficult for Brooke. Can Brooke and Will make it to three months? Will they be able to open up their hearts and their secrets to each other?

Highlights:
The meet cute/embarrassing
I loved the salsa dancing 💃
Clyde the squirrel had me laughing!
Jane Austen jokes!

I love Brooke for being spunky and competitive. I love her sense of humor and ability to adapt.

I love Will for being confident and such a gentleman. I love how he is good with teens and is willing to mentor them.

“All of that to say, I like you just the way you are — every cautious part of you. In fact, I have found that you are exactly the right amount of adventurous for me.”
This was an ARC, all thoughts are my own.

I loved the beginning of this book. The “sky diving” meet cute between Brooke and Will was… well, very cute. There were both funny and sweet moments. Brooke started dating Will as a bet and he found out about it and tried to be as annoying as possible on their dates. It was so fun! I like both Will and Brooke, but after the first few dates, the entire tone of the book changed and it kind of felt like a different book from there on out. The book took on more faith/mission elements and the focus switched more to these two being camp counselors at church. The faith elements were great, but I think their relationship took a back seat, which was a bummer and it didn’t seem to really track with the first part of the book.

“There’s nothing wrong with being someone who doesn’t feel the need to chase the next adrenaline rush all the time, Brooke. I’ve noticed that you take pleasure in the little things and consequently you seem to run on the high of life in general.”

This book had me from the start and I couldn’t put it down, but that shouldn’t come as a surprise because I adore @authorheathermiekstyn ‘s books so much! I really enjoyed the main characters (even though Will made frustrated me for just a minute 🤣). I loved the things that were portrayed through Brooke. She reminded me that even when life is not super exciting, it’s okay, and even necessary to find joy in the simple things . I also appreciated the way she realized her relationship with God had been distant, and that she needed to put more effort towards that to strengthen it. This book also had many lighthearted moments that made me smile. Thanks Heather for the copy and letting me review it early!

Another Laugh Out Loud Christian Rom-Com from Heather Miekstyn! After reading "The Friend Game," the first book in this series I couldn't wait to read this one since we got a sneak peek on how their story started!

This book has 10 things I hate about you, themes woven throughout starting with Brook who made a bet with her friend, Sydney, to date the guy of Sydney's choosing, and make it last for two months. (Brooke has bad taste in men! lol) OOOOR Brooke can choose a man for Sydney to date! Alas Will hears about this bet and decides to take action to be the biggest TOOL on these dates since he is the man Sydney had picked out for Brooke.

Guys its so hilarious and I had a few moments where I just busted out laughing! Its very wholesome and clean and the kind of book you just feel good about and leave a little sigh at the end! I can't recommend enough!

Tropes include,
Christian RomCom
Fake Dating/Just A Bet
10 Things I Hate About You ---> How to Loose a Guy in 10 Days
Mission Trip Romance

I really did like this book! The relationship between Will and Brooke is very sweet. The reason I am deducting a star is because the bet lasted the whole book, I was really hoping that they would have told each other about their feelings about it at least by 75% of the way through the book, that way we could see how their relationship grew from there, it just seemed like the book dragged on and then ended so abruptly.

Heather Miekstyn knows how to write fun stories with more than just Christian values, she represents Jesus. Simple dialogue becomes flirtatious banter. Advice becomes wise counsel. Silly situations become laugh out loud encounters. Love her writing. Can’t wait to read Jill’s story.

I loved this book! This was a hilarious and hearting warming story that quickly captured my attention from the first chapter! Will and Brooke’s meet cute 😍😂😍 It was one of my favorite parts of the story. I was laughing and smiling so much through out the book! Will and Brooke were adorable together. They had great chemistry and banter. The romance was clean and never went past swoony kisses. Brooke was relatable as she discovers herself worth comes from Christ and not what others think about her. I loved how Will come to see the real Brooke and encouraged her. Heather did a great job of weaving God throughout their relationship. It was great seeing my favorite side character Belinda again. Seriously, we need a chapter from her point of view. I cannot wait for the next book! If you love Christian romcoms and the trope of faking dating, highly recommend!

I volunteered to read an ARC copy of the book and all thoughts are my own.
