Josie Gardner enjoys her quiet life. Supported by a sizable trust fund, she spends her days fostering shelter pets and exploring the streets of New York. She doesn't worry too much about the occasional creepy text from an unknown number--until the stranger makes an unexpected appearance at the door of her apartment.
Between raising his two younger brothers and keeping food on the table, Jack Rizzo is in way over his head. Then he gets an offer he can't refuse: he'll get paid to move into the penthouse across the hall from Josie. His only job? To keep her safe from whoever is following her.
Neither is happy with the arrangement at first; however, in their proximity, Jack and Josie come to understand each other. As they toe the line between friends and more, they grapple with the reality of their different worlds--and the danger that looms closer each day.
I know a book is going to be five stars when I can't put it down and finish it in one day. This book was so good! I loved the story between Josie and Jack, with their very different backgrounds. Jack is the MMC we all love: hard-working, providing for his younger brothers, a bit broody, and relentless. Josie is the kind of rich girl I love—trying to move away from her family's image and make something of herself by fostering animals from the local shelter and just trying to be a good person.
Did I love the circumstances that forced these two together? Yes and no. Nobody likes a stalker, but we LOVE forced proximity between the MCs. I loved how the story showed Josie and Jack growing closer mentally, emotionally, and physically. Josie's realization about Jack and his situation, and how lucky she is, showed her she can do more good in her life than others in her situation. Jack, on the other hand, realized Josie isn't a stuck-up rich girl living on daddy's money; he saw she cares a lot for others and doesn't let other people's opinions ruin that.
Overall, a really good read with emotions and feelings that had me giggling and kicking my feet while reading it.
Josie had a heart of gold, sometimes to a fault. She went out of her way to help others, but she was also resourceful. In addition to that, she was determined and assertive. As she and Jack got to know each other, confiding in and reassuring each other, I could see the relationship shift.
Jack's directness may have been off putting, but I realized he was only doing his job - I guess one has to be objective to be a bodyguard, not to mention Jack's situation at home. He was hard working, and supporting his brothers meant a lot to him, and I loved how he tended to take charge in tense situations. Josie's safety became one of his biggest concerns, and not just because it was his job to be.
As far as the writing went, this book was easy to read, but not entirely lighthearted (because you know, the whole stalker thing). There was a right amount of drama to balance it out.
As a side note, I got so attached to Trudy the dog. I was so invested in what happened to her, and I was not disappointed.
Reading this one for an edit collab post with the author!

This was such a fun, cute, and quick read! I definitely enjoyed every minute of it and I loved how there’s a bit of suspense which made it very interesting and bingeable. I haven’t in a while, this book made me squeal and scream in the middle of the night and that is really telling of how good this book was.
I see myself so much in Josie who barely has any friends and only prefers dogs for company. And oh my gosh, I love Jack. He is such a walking green flag. He knows he is not fit for the job but he’s doing his best to protect Josie in ways he knows how. Everyone is lovable in this story, especially Wyatt—what cutie!—not to mention, Trudy is literally their baby. For some reason, these characters made me feel some sort of connection and sentiment.
It’s such a well-written book and I definitely appreciate how it’s not being dragged out by unnecessary spicy scenes. Plus points for including dogs!
This was a cute book with a different story than what I’m used to when I see that the MMC is a bodyguard. The MMC having zero experience as a bodyguard was a nice take on this trope that I enjoyed. Both MCs are good people who are struggling in their own ways and worked well together. This was a book that I’d reread.
Jack and Josie are such a cute couple. An heiress who loves rescue animals and a stressed out bodyguard hit it off in this delightful read. This is a light, quick read that I highly recommend!
Absolutely adorable. I was giggling and smiling throughout the whole thing. Jack and the boys stole my heart. Just what I wanted in a bodyguard romance novel!
Thank you to Eliza Lane for this ARC! I loved this story. I thought that Jack and Josie were both really believable characters. The stalking storyline throughout the plot was really suspenseful. The ending felt a little abrupt for how much buildup we got throughout the story, but overall I was still satisfied. I really loved the author’s writing style and how Jack and Josie’s back-stories were carefully woven into their present day selves.
