Zack thought he had a strange job before---Marine medic in a secret government base was odd, but personal assistant to a sidhe prince is downright bizarre and damn dangerous.

Zack thought he had a strange job before. Working as a Marine medic in a secret government installation was odd, but working as a human liaison to the /fae/ and as the personal assistant to a sidhe prince is downright bizarre. Throw in the fact that he's pretty damn sure he's fallen in love with his boss, and things are close to unmanageable.

Of course, around the fae, one never says 'things can't possibly get any worse.' Unexplained events plague the human world. Strange sightings, spontaneous magical explosions, and odd bends in reality crop up. When Finn falls ill and a monstrous creature attacks Zack, things quickly slide into disaster. Lycanthropy, loose-cannon mages, and Lugh conspire to make a hellish mess of things---but the real peril begins when Diego loses an important piece of his mind.

Sometimes, it's just the littlest things that make a book fails to entertain....

Here, the EXCESSIVE terms of endearment is just KILLING my brain, one cell at a time. It's just too much and I'm struggling to find an interest to continue. Maybe I will be missing the big twist. Maybe I will be missing the grand scheme. But at this moment, it's just not working for me. So, with regret, I have to put this on my DNF shelf.

Wow. That was a boat-load of melodrama. And there may have been a magic penis... because we all know that fixes everything. I adore this author, but not this series. Done.

After a couple of mildly disappointing reads, Semper Fae became just what I needed at this particular time - a solid and engaging plot, with a much tighter focus than the previous instalment, a wide range of interesting and still evolving characters (Finn being incredibly adorable) and a slightly open but satisfying ending.

The synopsis suggested that this was Zack and Lugh's story yet it was so much more, in my opinion. Indeed, I liked their romance, the consolidated relationship and their personal growth. I was also glad to see the misunderstandings resolved quite early on, which shifted the focus towards Diego's negative development. The book was plot driven and the most intriguing aspect for me was how Diego's complex characterisation emerged in the second part.

As said before, the open ending hints at Diego's continuing evolution and it also nicely sets the stage for the next instalment, which I am eagerly looking forward to.

Have I mentioned how much I like this series? No? Well I do. And after reading some of the previous reviews, it's apparent that these revised editions have done the trick.

Zack is the military nurse who helped save Finn and the others from death and dismemberment in the previous installment in this series. Since the rescue mission, he's become the head of security for the Collective organization, but more important, His Highness Prince Lugh. Turns out making sure he's safe and staying out of trouble backfired because he's caught on camera kissing his boss. Oops. And he hadn't even come out yet. Uh oh....

Lugh is the Prince of the Sidhe and Ambassador to Human Relations (or something like that) between the Humans and Fae (Otherworld). He's also known as the eligible playboy. But he doesn't care about that. He's only got one person on his mind and when he hears him frantically calling for him, he doesn't hesitate in getting to him quickly. But is it too late?

Although this story involves the romantic relationship between Lugh and Zack, this story is so much more than that. Diego and Finn are starting characters as well. Why? Because magic has spread among humans now that the Veil has been lifted, causing uncontrollable human magic that needs to be addressed. It's a shame it wasn't addressed before the unthinkable happens, placing everyone in harms way, starting a chain reaction that could mean the end of freedom for many.

It was so nice seeing Finn and Diego again in this story. I know when I first met Zack in the last book, that I'd fall for him, and sure enough, that's exactly what happened. Lugh is the biggest Bull-headed alpha ever. But the two of them together works perfectly. I won't lie. I got a little choked up at the end. But can't wait to see what the new gen brings to the table.

As expected things are chaotic for our boys! The last book had a nice, calm ending, so there was no way we’d have much of a break before drama gets going again….

Former Marine (not ex-soldier! Never call a Marine an ex-soldier…) Zachary Morrison has been drug in to the world of the fae, somewhat accidentally. We met Zack in the last book, he was a medic in the nasty government facility that was torturing our favorite fae Finn. He was really a good guy though, just doing his job, not understanding the creatures he was seeing were magical not alien in nature. But he did make the right call when it counted and went with Diego and crew. He finds himself hip deep in fae, taking a position as Diego’s personal assistant, then Lugh’s bodyguard. He’s tried to be a good boy, but there is one small, tiny, itty bitty problem. Lugh.

Lugh is a big bad-ass fae, he’s a sweetheart, cries at the drop of a hat, willing to help anyone, but he’s also a man whore. Or a fae whore I suppose! He was all over Diego in the last book, just barely taking no for an answer. After all, they had been together during one of Diego’s former lives, why not this life? Uh… FINN! He eventually gives up. Then he sees Zack and has a new goal in life. Zack.

So Lugh is after Zack, Zack is still mostly in the closet (or basement as Finn says), when some bad stuff goes down. A photo of Lugh, the Fae Ambassador, pinning Zack up against a wall outside of a night club goes out on the entertainment news shows. This leads to Zack’s parents finding out he is gay, a trip home to Missouri, and a wild animal attack that puts Zack in the hospital near death. Lugh rushes to his side, the calvary is called in and Zack’s life is saved. This whole mess actually causes some drama between the two of them, but also seems to move them forward in their non-relationship. And Zack finally gegets is cherry popped!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch… There are several issues going on; Finn has a cold. Which leads to him randomly shifting every time he sneezes! Elk, moose, salmon, rat, cormorant, orca, you name it, Finn shifts to be it! It isn’t fatal, but Finn sure seems to behave as if it were going to kill him. Poor Diego has to care for and baby his sick man. It’s quite pathetic really. There are odd magical things happening around the world, Diego is beginning to be concerned. He’s also overwhelmed with day to day crap, emails, phone calls etc. Plus we have the continuing saga of Zack and Lugh. Diego and Zack go on a quest and meet some horny beings. Then some shit goes down with Diego himself that REALLY messes with things…

It’s a fabulously complex plot, lots of characters, both fae and human, some good stuff, some bad stuff, it’s a mess but in a good way. Somehow Angel keeps it all together and moving forward. We get new characters, a pack of humans that cause trouble then help sort it out, and the dragons that were mentioned briefly in the last book make a more substantial appearance. They were really cool! Things do happen for Zack and Lugh, good things and bad, but it’s fun to watch them grow. I wish they had spend a little more time together though… Their romance is a smaller portion of this story, it’s really about the Big Drama going on.

As usual with a review we have to be careful and not give too much away. So I’m very carefully stepping around the plot here. I tend to have a hard line between good guys and bad guys, good guys need to stay good, bad guys can redeem themselves with effort. But it fucks with my head when they get mixed up. That happens in this book. I appreciate the need for it to happen, I really do, but it broke my heart a little bit to watch it. Angel writes it as she sees it, it’s not her fault I didn’t like what happened, but I didn’t! It was well done, a great plot, if I could step back and just read it without getting emotional it would have been fine. But I couldn’t do that! I cried and I was pissed. Which is fine, I like it when I get emotional about a book. That’s the sign of a great writer, creating an emotional response in a reader, of whatever sort. So there were ups and downs in this one, it’s a total roller coaster ride, on one hand I loved the emotional impact, but on the other hand I hated what happened! One thing I feel I do need to mention that just started to bother me was the excessive use of “bud” and “hon”… I didn’t notice that in the first two books, but it was a bit much in this one. Not enough to ruin the book, but I did notice it.

But overall this was a great book. Angel continues with this creative, amazing world and characters, adding more to it with each book. She writes with a light hand, even with a darker story line, adding just the right amount of humor without being cheesy. This one had a deep and scary message about control and fear, and government involvement, also handled quite well. Even though I had issues with part of the plot, that is purely a personal thing, it was still a very enjoyable story!

This third book in the ‘Endangered Fae’ series adds more depth, new characters, and an unexpected turn in the series arc to what has already become one of my favorite worlds. Finn, the pooka, and his partner Diego, a human writer turned powerful sorcerer, continue to play a central role, but Zack, a former Marine, and Lugh, the sidhe prince who is now the fae’s ambassador to Earth, are the focus of this breathtaking adventure. Newly rediscovered sidhe and modern-day humans are in contact after centuries of being closed off from each other, and this situation has unexpected, dangerous consequences. The role of magic in the world, interconnections between Earth and the Otherworld, and more twists and turns than should be legal in one novel kept me on the edge of my seat yet again.

A Joyfully Jay review.

This is the third book in the Endangered Fae series and while I did not read the first two, I was able to follow the story and the majority of the plots fairly well. However, if given the chance, it might be easier for other readers to start with book one, where you’re introduced to the world through Diego and Finn’s stories before jumping into this one. The story hints at the focus of the book being an ex-marine and a fae prince, but it’s actually pretty split between two couples: Diego, the Sorcerer and his pookah lover, Finn; and Zack, who is the ex-marine in question and bodyguard to the fae prince, Lugh.

In this third book, the focus moves from Diego and Finn, to Zach - Diego's human assistant and security coordinator- and Lugh, a Prince of the Fae. Zach thinks he has his new life figured out. He helps with arranging the contacts between Lugh, Diego and the Fae and the powers of the human world, he advises both sides on dealing with each other, and he longs after Lugh from a distance while watching the handsome and powerful prince have men and women falling at his feet.

When Finn is taken mildly ill and forced to keep to his room, Diego loses an important support as he tries to deal with fae, human mages, human politicians, and the complexity of his life. Zach is trying to fill that role when he's attacked by a werewolf, and his entire life gets upended once again. Struggling to cope with the effects of the attack, he fails to keep Diego safe, and suddenly the entire fae alliance is in danger from people they should be able to trust, including Zach himself.

This was a roller-coaster of a book, with a lot of action and plot. Lugh is a bit overemotional for who he is and how long he's been around, but that seems to be a trait of these fae so I could appreciate his good points and let him have his drama. In this book, we see very intense moments for Finn and Diego from the outside, and it's a pity there was no good way to get inside the POVs of all four characters. But Zach became another favorite character for me, and I enjoyed following this piece of the journey with him. The ending makes me very curious about where the next installment will go.

I love this author, and this is another fantastic book by her.

This builds on the existing universe nicely. I was uncertain about how it was going to work, but she tied in the Fae/Magical universe into the human one very nicely. :)

I'm already eagerly anticipating the sequel (which was nicely set-up at the end of this book).

This story is part of a series and is best read in order. Zack is the personal security guard for the fae prince Lugh, and although he is attracted to the sidhe, he steers clear of an entanglement just like he has for his entire life. Lugh feels more for Zack than Zach realises, but getting through to the human is impossible, when Zach is attacked by a werewolf everything changes when Lugh has to resort to desperate means to keep him safe. Over with Diego and Finn, Finn has shifters fever and is quite ill, Diego is juggling his responsibilities and puzzled by the strange sightings and magical outbursts, while a group of young adults try to gain his attention. As the saying goes ‘the road to hell is paved with good intentions’ but these good intentions just might destroy them all.

I will advise readers to have read the other books in the series, as this story does mention events from the previous book Diego. I have to say that this is a wonderful addition to the Endangered Fae series, giving us a story about what happens after the veil has been opened and some of the consequences of the resurrected human magic. Zach and Lugh are the main relationship focus of this story, with them finally coming clean with each other, but it isn’t until misunderstanding are cleared up and Zach realises that he means more to Lugh than he first thought. Diego plays a large part in this story, and even though we don’t see him for some of it, he is still in the background pulling deadly strings. We are introduced to several young characters who add to the storyline with their well-meaning, though nearly deadly, interfering.

There is a lot going on in this story and it all overlaps, Finn is struck down with shifter fever, an illness not seen in hundreds of years, Zach is attacked by a creature that was thought to be extinct and Lugh has to protect him, Diego and Zach try to find a cure for Lycanthropy and then Diego is kidnapped and an evil is unwittingly unleashed. Lugh and Zach with the help of their other friends try to hunt the evil down, but Lugh is then captured, and the real fun begins. So there is a lot going on with the storyline and much of it is connected, so there are no loose ends or confusing plot, the characters are all well written and their parts fit well.

So in all honesty this is a fantasy that draws you in with its imagination and then keeps you reading by the ever-evolving storyline, with the angst and want of romance, with the misunderstandings of men and the good intentions of young adults. I found this story to be really well written, and for the most part, found that the actions taken when compassion is removed and obligation enforced, to be something that could happen. I thoroughly enjoyed going along on this adventure with Lugh, Zach, Diego and Finn and I am looking forward to, hopefully, a new book in the series.

I will recommend this story to those who love fantasy, fae, paranormal, a great storyline, a hard fought romance, some hot sex, explosions, kidnappings, rescues, facing the consequences and a great ending.

Hurry up with the next damn book!

I love this series. I really do. Despite the sidhe behaving in ways that I find rather typically human (and I prefer that fae behave like fae which often can mean head-scratching one one hand or uncomfortable on another), there is a wondrous magic to the Endangered Fae series that reminds me why I have always loved both Celtic mythology and the fantasy genre.

Sorry Diego and Finn, you two really need to work out your trust and self-esteem issues (though I still love you), but Zach and Lugh have wormed their way into my heart. Zach especially, an honorable soldier through and through. I can well imagine the head-spinning that ensued going from normal human medic to security detail for a group of beings he thought lived only between the pages of his favourite author Diego Sandoval's books.

And oh yay, Zach's a virgin! How often does THAT happen?

So, Zach has it bad for a certain cloven-hoofed heart-throb who has a reputation amongst the sidhe as a "love 'em and leave 'em" type. Zach may be a bad ass, and in the closet to his parents, but he's a one-man type of guy. Lugh as well, struggles with his attraction, disguising his attraction with flirtation. Then Zach rescues a couple from a werewolf attack only to wind up damn near mauled and even worse, bitten.

And the sidhe have a zero-tolerance policy towards werewolves.

Speaking of Diego. Remember that scene from Fellowship of the Ring when Galadriel turns into a dark queen if given the ring, well the same thing happens here, except his darkness manifests itself due to a bunch of meddling kids *cue Scooby Doo villian ending* whose powers have begun to manifest because of the magic now flowing into the world. They want Diego's help and are willing to do anything to gain it with absolutely disastrous results. Diego Unchained...literally.

Semper Fae: When the terrific gets great!

For my full review, visit http://wp.me/p220KL-2VR

From that review: "Angel Martinez's Semper Fae (Endangered Fae #3) elevates a series that was already marvelous and complicated into a saga that is rare in its layers of mythology and whose intricacies of plot astonish at each new twist and turn of the author's pen. Angel Martinez has a multitude of important plot threads running through her story and its how the author intertwines them with each other with a richness and depth that is truly amazing. It really doesn't seem to matter whether Martinez is dealing with the day to day relationship dynamics of an established couple, even a couple where one is a Pookie and the other a hugely powerful mage or revealing the wider ranging complications that arise when the magical meet the mundane, its how Martinez is able to fold reality into mythology and have the final product feel so real and alive that is an amazing quality all of its own. I really can't get enough of this series or its addicting characters."

This is definitely a bit more serious tale than the other novels. It has a bittersweet ending along with a few surprises, such as Finn’s discovery of a descendant. While I wasn’t particularly happy with the punishment meted out to Diego by the Fae—I didn’t think it was particularly fair, considering his own harsh condemnation of himself—I’m not going to let that stop me from giving this story 5 stars. It works on so many levels: as a paranormal romance, a supernatural thriller, even a bit of a political statement of how a good man can become a threat to himself and his fellow beings when his intentions are twisted from their original intent.

Though I got the feeling I might’ve missed a book between this one and the previous, it may be simply because it’s been so long since I’ve read a Diego-Finn story. I wish there had been a guide to show how to pronounce Lugh’s name as well as some of the others, however. I just hope, with my limited knowledge of Celtic mythology, I got it right.

In summation, I recommend this novel. Buy it, read it, enjoy.

This novel was supplied by the author and no remuneration was involved in the writing of this review.

Semper Fae is Book Three in the Endangered Fae series. There are several threads that most coalesce beautifully into one by the end. Zack had been a Marine Medic and is now bodyguard to Prince Lugh. He is attacked by a monster that changes him forever while Lugh falls quite sick. Zack is also sure that he is falling love with his boss and knows nothing can come of it. Finn also contracts an illness and Diego somehow loses a piece of himself that is critical. Add to that strange happenings, explosions and odd bends in reality and we have major problems for the Fae and the humans.

I am really enjoying this series. Each story provides a backdrop for romance and at the same time, we meet new individuals while also seeing old friends. Parts of the story are resolved while others are not. This leads us into the fourth book. All the characters are amazing and you cannot help but fall in love. You will be routing for a happy ending for all involved. Start with book one though. It will keep you getting confused.

A friend graciously lent me her copy of this book. After reading her review and others, I wasn’t sure I was going to like it, but was pleasantly surprised. Yes, there was a lot of melodrama and it was way over the top, but I enjoyed it just the same. I did roll my eyes quite a bit in the beginning when Lugh was dealing with Zack’s lycanthropy. It was pretty cringeworthy and I'm glad that Zack was upset about it and didn't just shrug it off once he was himself again.

The parts with Diego were interesting. I liked that he didn’t get away with all the things he did while not himself. He may have gotten off lightly, but still there were some sort of consequences for his actions. I liked the introduction of the new characters. I thought they fit in well within the story. All in all, an enjoyable book and now that I’m vested in these characters, I’ll be reading the next one in the series.

Some moments merit 4.5, but others aren't for me. Hopeful ending, though.

There are powerfully emotional moments in this book, good and bad; thoughtful ones, such as regarding the meaning of "courage" and "monster"; and an interesting assortment of young magical-human characters are introduced, making some bad choices as they try to handle newly sprung powers. Angel Martinez is an author whose LGBTQ SF/F romances I frequently enjoy; I'm still just a bit too repressed to like imagining human-form dragons having orgies in the background while Diego talks to the dragon lord, or the "solution" for Zack's condition (that's not quite right, and still a bit spoiler-y for a development that most readers will see coming, but I'm trying to stay vague).

The horrible change that accidentally happens to Diego isn't until the 43% point, before which it's mainly focused on Zachary and fae prince Lugh dealing with misunderstandings and the different traumatic change alluded to above, a thread which isn't dropped, just woven into a potentially world-wide crisis. Trying to stop someone as powerful as Diego is made more difficult by the necessity of finding a way that avoids killing either him or those helping him who aren't truly evil. Then afterwards, there are painful consequences; it's not a simple case of everything's-fine-now.

I'm really not finding it easy to discuss without giving away too much of the plot, but I do consider it a worthwhile read. This paradigm for werewolves is certainly original, if a bit uncomfortable (to me). Lugh's misjudgments are less shaking-my-head foolish than a few of Diego's or Finn's in previous volumes. I like the brief chapter-heading quotes giving insight into the ways this world's magic works, and into various characters. I also appreciate that even the long-lived fae can change certain black-and-white biases.

As for proofreading, I only caught three minor typos. (And a passing Poughkeepsie mention, LOL. That's where I'm from, and it's always fun to see the unique name pop up in unexpected places.)

****Reviewed for Prism Book Alliance****

This is the third, but not final, book in the Endangered Fae series. We are reunited with Finn, Diego, Zack, and Lugh as well as all the other various Fae we met on previous books. While Finn and Diego are central to this story, Zach and Lugh’s relationship is the focused romance. However the romance is not the focus. That isn’t to say it’s neglected, we have lots of time with them together, but the magical goings on in the world and the emergence of the Dark Mage is front and center.

There was never a dull moment as this ensemble cast fought to save one of their own. There were many points of view but it didn’t detract from the story. We are left with a bit of a HFN ending but it is a satisfying one.

This was my favourite book so far and I am eagerly anticipating the next in the series to be released.

Wow. I almost DNF'ed this puppy but I managed to finish it. I did not care for the grab-my-balls-and-give-me-copious-amounts-of-rough-sex-or-I'll-eat-you-limb-from-limb werewolf transition. Puh-leeze. I also didn't like that Diego was central to Lugh's and Zack's supposed love story. Lastly, I love robust stories but the number of characters in this series is getting out of hand. I'm going to read book 4 because I've come this far and there are too many characters for me to take a break and still recall everyone.

Bottom line: I'm skeptical about book 4 being a worthwhile read but I hope AM proves me wrong.

I've been in he hospital/rehab due to a fall and have spent the past 4 weeks without a computer - but with my Kindle! So I have been reading a lot and am giving an arbitrary date to my finish date.

3.25 stars. There were two problems for me with Semper Fae. First, I really hated the major issue in this book. It was very hard for me not to have Diego and Finn be the main characters when the most important circumstance revolved around something that happens to Diego.

Second, the way it opened had a big disconnect for me. The moment of "bad publicity" is a moment I really wish the reader could have taken part in -- it would have been an incredible view into both Zack and Lugh's feelings.

As terrible as I found the situation, the fact that Angel Martinez is willing to go places like that with beloved characters makes me admire her as a writer even more. Take chances, people! Sometimes they fail, it is true, but it keeps your writing/stories fresh and alive and avoids some of the cookie cutter feeling long series/worlds can get.

I wish Zack and Lugh had felt more center stage in their own book. We got some good time with them, just not enough. Zack's changes did get explored and handled -- I liked that they talked out the worst of their issues fairly quickly and that Lugh is very passionate with all his feelings.

There was no scene where Lugh was presen't and he didn't cry or try not to cry. It's just nope. And even the big bad sergeant, who was so so so upset by the kind of rape decided the next day that is wasn't even such a big deal and became a softie.
Too much drama, too weak characters... I wanted them all to die a fiery death. And I really missed Finn. He was there, but his sense of humor was missing. (Though that was actually understanable.)
I liked Minky, but she had no actual role, and not much of a personality.

Angel Martinez delivers again! I so enjoyed the focus on Zack and Lugh’s relationship in this book as well as the newest characters who’ve appeared. The imagery is as vibrant as always and the storytelling flows really well. I can’t wait to read more about this world and all the creatures who inhabit it.

3.5 maybe 4 stars. Still processing this story. A good read, very intense in sections, very real and emotional, which makes for an interesting contrast in a story that features fae, vampires and werewolves.

There's a huge plot twist and some new characters to add to the mix of fae, human and other in this third instalment of this wonderfully imaginative series, together with Zack and Lugh's love story. Very entertaining!
