Four unlikely couples find opposites do attract even in the shadow of mystery~
Lyn grew up loving books. Her favorite night of the week was Friday night, when the Bookmobile came to her neighborhood in Illinois. She’d spend those two hours chatting with the driver of the Bookmobile and the librarian and making the big decision of the week — which books to check out! In those distant days, children were limited in how many books they could check out. Lyn could only take home six a week — and there were so many to choose from. Her favorites were Cotton in my Sack by Lois Lenski, The Little House series and the One of a Kind Family series. Later, she discovered Georgette Heyer’s Regency romances! This love of books led to a desire to write. Lyn won prizes in high school and college for her poetry and, not surprisingly, Lyn became a history and English teacher. When she became a mother, she gave up teaching, and while raising a son and a daughter, she began working on her first novel. Then she wrote her second and third. Long years of rejection followed — as it does for most writers. Finally in 1997, Lyn got "the call." Her first book, Never Alone, was chosen to appear in the first year of the new Love Inspired line. Lyn has written many articles on writing and the emerging Christian Booksellers Assoc. (CBA) fiction market. In 2006, Lyn's book, Chloe, is a finalist for the RWA's RITA, the highest award in the romance genre in the inspirational category. Now, Lyn spends her days writing books that show the power of divine as well as human love. Her nest is empty and she and her real life hero, her husband, have more and more time to spend together in their home on a lake in the lovely northwoods. And books are still dear to her heart.
I am generally not a fan of romance novels but I really liked this one. It was realistic, dealing with some serious issues. It was not simple nor overly sweet. I connected with the characters right away.
I don't know how Cote packed so much into this short novel. There were divorce and remarriage issues as well as marriage relationships in general. There was hurt from the past that needed healing. There were misunderstandings that needed straightening out. Compassion and forgiveness were needed. There was even a bit of a mystery as a hacker was creating havoc for a hospital.
This is a good novel for readers who like some depth to their Christian romance novels. You'll see some real life situations with characters who struggle, trying making sense of their feelings. You'll meet a couple of young boys who are the sweetest kids. You'll see the healing brought to pass by trusting God.
I received a complimentary digital copy of this book from the author. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Only Her Heart is the first book in the Opposites Attract series by Lyn Cote. Annie Petrov is about to quit the job she loves. Why would she do that? She’s in love with her boss, Jack Lasater. The computer genius who understands code and computer security more than people only sees her as an executive assistant. Annie has had enough. However, before she can turn in her resignation, their personal lives explode and the focus becomes putting out the fires. Jack’s estranged father needs his help finding a computer hacker and Annie’s sister surprises everyone when she leaves her husband and twin sons. As they deal with business and their personal lives, will Jack open his eyes and see Annie as more than just an employee? Lyn Cote writes stories with love, romance, faith and a bit of mystery. It is a fairly quick read packed with lots of activity, perhaps too much activity. Unfortunately, Only Her Heart was a bit confusing with way too much going on. With Jack’s issues with his father, Annie’s situation with her sister, and other relationship developments, the mystery of the computer hacker was put on the back burner. When it was solved, it was not the shocking reveal I would expect. I enjoyed the characters. They were real, relatable with real life issues: anger, resentment and forgiveness. There were times I wanted to tell Annie to mind her own business. Overall, I enjoyed Only Her Heart and will continue the series. If you enjoy stories of love and faith, you may enjoy Only Her Heart.
Only Her Heart by Lyn Cote Opposites Attract Series Book One Annie Petrov had a tough decision to make. She was considering making a huge change in her life. She loved her job, but she couldn't stay there. But just as she's about to make her move...everything seemed to fall apart. And she just couldn't leave her boss in such a mess.
Jack Lasater didn't really see people. He saw everything in computerese. Luckily he had a partner and executive assistant who could deal with the human side of things. When someone from his past comes to him for help...he wants to refuse. Sadly, the money will help him to help his mother. So...no choice but to take it.
I loved this story. Shed a few tears and a few smiles. Wonderful characters...both adults and children. And how things in our childhood stay with us—although, we usually don't see them as they actually were. Looking forward to more in this series. https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
Jack, Tim, and Annie started a company together. Jack is the computer genius, Tim finds the jobs and Annie basically does everything else as the office manager. Annie loves Jack, but Jack is clueless and barely notices that she exists. Tim has been off lately and Annie isn't sure what's wrong. When Tim tells them that he's found another job, starting up another company and he wants them to buy out his portion of the partnership things start making some sense. While that is happening, Jack's estranged father wants him to take on a job for the hospital that he is a board member and surgeon for - someone is hacking their computer files and causing havoc. In the meantime, Annie is wanting to resign - but how can she with all of this going on? She just can't work with Jack loving him and him ignoring her - but then things start changing as they go through these struggles and Annie sees a glimmer of hope!
A good mild suspense and romance story that is clean!
Only Her Heart was such a good story! This contemporary romance paired two people who were very different from each other, yet it worked! I loved Annie’s heart and the way she cared about Jack, even when he was clueless to her feelings. And I loved the awakening that began to occur for Jack. It was definitely wonderful to see him begin to be drawn to Annie.
This story had great main characters and side characters, with interesting and important situations that needed resolving. I enjoyed this book from start to finish and look forward to reading more in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Annie Petrov has been in love with Jack Lasater for years. Only one problem. Jack was 100% dedicated to his business, the computer business for which she worked. Jack hadn’t a clue how Annie felt. Nor did he see her that way. She was just his faithful assistant.
So she's about to quit. Being around him was just too hard.
But an accident brought them to the hospital where his estranged father, Dr. Cliff Lasater, heard Jack's mother was sent. But Jack didn’t want him there. He never wanted his father near them again.
This is a tender story of broken relationships and relationships unfulfilled. But with God at the center all things are possible.
I loved this book. I will be looking for the next book in this series!
I really like Annie and Jack. Jack shuts out the world and is so focused on what he is doing that he doesn't even notice Annie. Then one day as Annie is getting ready to quit her job, everything is upended and everything changes. Jack is forced to pay attention to his world and it turns out that Annie is his world. They both have things to overcome, but with some perseverance, they just might be able to make it.
This is a very interesting story, and I can't wait for the next book in the series! Jack and Annie are definitely opposites, which causes some very interesting situations. The mystery involves a computer hacker, and the issue of anger and forgiveness is prominant. This seems like the beginning of a very good series.
I received a free copy of this book, but I was not required to write a review. The opinions expressed are my own..
Just finished reading Lyn Cote's book Only Her Heart (Opposites Attract) I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and will read more of her books. I enjoyed the characters, especially reading about Annie and Jack. It kept me guessing what was going to happen. Was Annie going to get through to Jack, and was Jack ever going to get it. No more details from me, just get the book and read for yourself. Liz
Annie was in love with her genius boss, but he seldom ever really saw her. Work was his life. Until the day his partner quit to go with another new start up business. Annie knows she can’t leave him now because he truly needs her help. She knows the business better than anyone. So what happens next is the heart of this easy read with its great nuggets of truth.
A Good, Clean Christian Story with Plenty is Suspense
I really enjoyed this story. It has so many story lines that kept it interesting from start to finish. It was fast-paced with everything from family drama to mystery, to happily ever after. It covered all classes of society from rich and miserable to modest and happy. Being in the medical field and from the Chicago area there was extra appeal for me. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!!
This is a very well written story with characters that draw you into their lives. In fact, the only problem I had with this book was the fact that I did not have enough time to read it in one go. That is a problem I enjoy having. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys inspirational fiction.
This is my first time reading this authors books and I will be reading more. This book was fast paced and full of unexpected twists. It started with a line that caught my interest and continued throughout. The spiritual growth of the characters was inspiring and the "computer hacker" was a surprise.
Only Her Heart is a witty, uplifting romance with someone hacking a hospital's computer files. I love Annie and Jack. Annie gains confidence and Jack learns to truly forgive in this well-written book. Will jack find the hacker before the hacker compromises patient medical files? I was engaged in this story from page one. If you enjoy clean romance with some mystery, do not miss this book.
I borrowed this on Kindle Unlimited, but when I read the prologue…I’ve…read this before? But GoodReads doesn’t shows it as released in 2019. But I have the distinct impression that I read this as a hard copy quite a while ago? I KNOW I’ve read that prologue before, I distinctly remember a plot with 0s being added because someone was told they were nothing but a zero.
It seemed to start slowly, but I love Lyn Cote books so I kept reading. I'm glad I did. The story wasn't what I expected. The main guy was hard for me to like. How could Annie be in love with him? I loved the twists and the surprise ending. I would recommend this book to my friends as I haver her previous ones.
Outgoing Annie went to work to resign. She had fallen in love with her boss Jack and he was totally clueless. She couldn’t be around him any more. But things in life change and things happen. Really good story. You will laugh and cry and even gasp at the one who is causing trouble. Enjoy your read.
I was given an advance copy of this book, but am not required to write a review.
I will of course write one, because I really enjoyed this tale. I loved the mystery of trying to figure out the hacker- and following the cute love story.
I love mysteries. This is a very interesting approach with a romance too, divorce, family conflicts. I very much enjoyed all aspects of the story & appreciate the Christian part too. I want to read more from this author.
This story could have been longer. Unless Melissa & Troy's storyline is later done in another book, their characters should have been explained further in this one. Otherwise this was a well told story.
A great story of Jack and Annie , characters with opposite personalities and hurts to overcome in order to make a relationship work. Loved all the characters of all ages brought into the story, very realistic and highly recommend it.
this is a good story annie wants to quiet her job because her boss does not notice her but then her sister takes off and she has to take time off from work but jake comes to the house and they help each other. if you like mystery and romance you will enjoy the book
Engaging story and well drawn characters in a gentle, interesting mystery. The challenges and emotional issues of anger, unforgivness and abandonment and subsequent consequences in the lives of all involved are well illustrated.
This love story was three fold with the three couples finding love that would intertwine their lives. Actually it was about four couples and God had a way of showing what they meant to one another.
An admirable, simple, and straightforward yet captivating story that teaches you meaningful life lessons through the characters' actions as they learn from their prior mistakes. It truly proves that honesty is the best policy and that forgiveness ultimately brings you peace!
A good mild suspension with a Christian theme. Annie is a relatable character who decided to move on with her life and career. As she does that the status quo changes and how she handles that is believable. Jack is also a believable character.
