Danielle, or Dani, is the owner of the Sinners and Saints modeling agency. By day, her employees work as fashion models; by night, they double as high class call girls. Her business is successful, raking in money and keeping herself and her girls happy in their upscale lifestyles, a feat considering Dani’s father is the chief of police. When her girls start showing up murdered, the agency comes under scrutiny, and Dani’s life will change forever. But is her life really what she thought it was? Or is her family keeping secrets from her that shed light on her past and influence her future?
Brendon Ledger is a senator and a regular client of Dani’s. Unlike a lot of her clients, Brendon is unmarried, unattached, and really has no reason to employee the services of a call girl, however after years of seeing Dani on a business transaction basis, he looks to take their relationship further, actually becoming a legitimate couple. While Dani thinks a relationship is something she can never have. She is concerned about what the fallout might be for Brendon’s career if caught in the scandal once the police start investigating the murders. Brendon however, is willing to give up his career just to be with Dani. But once those secrets start to come out, is he going to be there for her when she most needs him?
There is a plot twist that you won’t see coming and it will hit you like a truck. Seriously. I won’t give any spoilers because you need to experience the WTF moment yourself, but let me say, you’re going to shake your head saying, “what did I just read?” Ms. Kiden definitely has taken the genre of romantic suspense to a different level and the result is a page-turner you won’t want to put down.
The relationships between the characters are complicated, especially given that Dani and her father are on complete opposite sides of the law. She has a rapport with the police, which seems to keep her under their radar. But when a new detective, Cooper Hayes, comes on board, suspicious of Dani’s business dealings, she finds her relationship with the department in jeopardy.
The story is complex, steamy, and well written and the characters are well developed. I found myself pulling for Dani and Brendon, hoping that they can find their happily ever after despite the circumstances, especially given the hand that Dani was dealt. This is the first book I’ve read by Ms. Kiden and certainly not the last!
