Each story had a common theme and the characters intertwined throughout all the books. Personally, I really love reading about characters later on in series. It is disappointing when they just disappear from a series or town when their story is up. I was not sure about the common theme though. All the characters married quickly, as practically strangers. Each time their were children involved and they were all the same ages per story. I thought this odd at first but then I began to enjoy it. Ms. Coble managed to give us four very distinct stories that were entertaining. I think Gracie's story was my favorite. She was a very damaged individual that had to learn to give herself to God before she could give herself to her daughter, her husband, her new children. I liked the way Michael dealt with her, recognizing her fears and insecurities, patiently giving her a foundation and stability. Great books!
Overall I did like the series, but I have a hard time with Coble's suspense as the events are so unbelievable. There are never any real "hard pounding" moments like, say, a Dee Henderson story. She does throw in some fairly good romantic tension from time to time. Three of the stories were marriages of convenience which was unexpected, and I enjoyed. All had children as semi-major characters and that was also a nice touch.
So many good books...impossible scenarios but dealing with real life issues. Heroes and heroines making the charts choices in life and making the best of situations...all worth the goal to make life better for each other and the children in their lives.
I totally enjoy the writing of this author. She brings God's truths out in ways that mirror our own lives and struggles. And of course gives us the answer that God is in control, even when it looks like everything is spinning out of control. Our mandate is to love and trust Him, all the while He is working everything for our good.
