One day she’s an innocent young girl, the next she’s the sexual property of the Death Layer Club...
When recently-unemployed 24-year old Ava Clark lands her dream job working for one of the most prestigious multi-national corporations on the planet, her enigmatic and incredibly handsome boss Vincent King seems to be icing on the cake.
However, despite his superficial charm and intimidating good-looks, Mr. King’s facade quickly crumbles revealing a heartless sociopath intent on selling Ava into sexual slavery to cover a gambling debt.
The depraved, sadistic bikers of the Death Layer Motorcycle Club know just what to do with such an impeccable young beauty—sacrifice her to the notoriously violent Bane “The Beast” Harme as a peace offering.
He’s a hardened killer, a ruthless bastard...100% tattoos and testosterone.
And he’s the best fucking thing that’s ever happened to her.

I have to say that this book took me totally by surprise. I had read Masters previous series about Formula One and although I thought the male was written amazing, the I had trouble with her female lead. I have NEVER read anything by Celia Loren before, so this was me diving in face first with no one to catch me. But I am a big girl, I can swim. So dive in I did, and let me tell you I couldn't put the book down.
I loved this whole story. I loved the dark, I loved the characters, I loved the fluff moments, and I loved the love. Bane is a well written alpha male that when he knows what he wants he grabs it, snogs it, and doesn't let it go. Ava is a female lead that doesn't just roll over and show the big baddies her belly. She fights. Through beatings, abuse, and torment, she fights and does her best to try and get herself home no matter what the consequences may be. I love stories about demented clubs and women getting trapped. They have a whole Eyes Wide Shut vibe to me.
This was fiction that made me BELIEVE the fiction the authors were created. I never once rolled my eyes, or gave up on the idea of the story. It bloomed and exploded in my mind and I was just this innocent woman along for the ride and grinning (at times crying) the whole way.
The pacing of the book was perfect. The author didn't give to much info dump, or drama. They unbuckled and told the story with a brilliant flow that had me biting my nails and totally hot. It had been awhile since I read smexy scenes that made me ache. And oh boy was I aching. Maybe I just clicked with Bane and Ava, who knows. I was in love with their love.

I have to admit, when I picked this up and started reading it, I thought for a second I had opened the wrong book, it seemed to be going off in a different direction than I expected.
It took till nearly 20% of the book (according to the kindle) for the actual "story" to start really.
For me, there was far too much time spent on the whole "being fired, looking for a new job, interview for the new job" etc aspect. (and given the book ends at 86% on my kindle, which sort of annoyed me, as I expected more story) it made even less sense to have nearly 20% of a story that ends at 86% spent on imo non important stuff.
Bane was not what I expected from the blurb. Yes he was violent and a killer and what not, but he seemed watered down from what you would have expected.
But, in saying that, I did enjoy it, and found myself rooting for Bane and Ava.
However for me, it all happened a bit to quick, in a matter of days she is perfectly willing to be off with an entire new life, with only a token regret given to her family.
Another issue, for me, is that I do not like when an author describes a character as looking like this famous person or that famous person. I just prefer a description so I can build a picture in my head on my own. And it happened 3-4 times in this book with different characters. But that is just a personal preference.
I am unsure how the series is going to go on, this is book 1 apparently in (The Depraved Club), yet given the rest of the MC members were truly awful, as were any members of the DC itself I cannot see any future MC from among them
I was excited to read this. I've been in a MC biker mood and this was right up my alley. Unfortunately, at some point, I stopped enjoying it.
I enjoyed the beginning. There was great set up for the predicament that Ava found herself in. But once she was there and she had Bane's attention things shifted and moved too quickly. It was just hard to go from her being scared for her life to jumping his bones. And there were holes in the plot. Nothing ever happened to the sweetbutts that harassed her or abused her. You never found out what happened to her sister and it was never explained how Jack found them at the end.
This had great potential and there were some things that were good in it, but it fell a little short for me.

Dark, hard, and just what I like! Another amazing one from the ladies at Hearts Collective. This MC story is very different from what I usually read...thank goodness! Not a thank goodness because the others weren't great, but an OMG! this book is over-the-top-freaking-intense...and I love it!!! I never give a review that contains a summary of the book or spoiler, so don't look for one. I will tell you why I rated it 5 stars and how freaking fantastic it is!!! This MC book is very different from all the others, yet so satisfying and captivating. There is intense drama, lust, hate, pain, fighting, and darkness. It's dark, raw, deep, dirty, and sad. Then you experience the better of it all and feel courage, like, hope, and bravery. Two very different people protecting each other, only to gain very different things. Celia and Colleen are my two favorite MC authors and they deliver 5 stars! Oh do they deliver... amazing, captivating, and riveting!!! More, that's what you'll be wanting! You will love this book from beginning to end! It starts with a bang and keeps you on the edge of "I can't put this down"! Love it ladies and thank you!
ME JODE MUCHÍSIMO. Era muy buen libro he incluso conseguisteis que me gustase Bane por su amor con su perrita Jenny... cagada monumental habéis hecho.
I'm MC books big fan but I must say that this one surprised me a little because I didn't expect something of that style. They're strong situations but it isn't a dark romance.
Bane "the beast," he's not so much a beast but rather soft as a big teddy bear. He's a murderer and a death fighter but he disagrees with most of the club's sleazy business, and he protects Ava with his own life even though she doesn't make it easy for him.
Ava, she's a little naive and reckless but in honor of the truth, she was literally thrown into a situation that goes way beyond her wildest nightmares.
Wild and dirty MC...check! Sweet unsuspecting young woman...check! A pompous rich business man with no conscience and a cold heart...check! And so begins this really different and unexpected storyline. Sure I've read books where some innocent woman is thrust into the world of an MC and is forced to work as a sex slave or held as leverage against another club. But this book started off with a bang...the prologue got my attention right away...and then after I started reading the first chapters I almost thought I had the wrong book. You go from a woman being thrown onto the bed of Bane "The Beast" to a seemingly different story of a woman trying to find a job and pay her bills. She answers an ad for a too-good-to-be-true job and of course she lands the position after a less than conventional interview. What happens next is a nightmare and definitely a cautionary tale...if it seems too good to be true...it usually is! This book turned out to be way different than what I imagined, but it was an exciting and fast read about two seemingly different people who find a common ground and go with it. A lot of violence and abuse against women...but our scary "beast" leading man turns into anything but a beast and slowly his true colors are revealed. It worked for me and you do get an HEA ending. Another great read from the duo Celia Loren/Colleen Masters.
**** 4 **** "the best thing you never expected to happen" stars
A copy was provided by the Hearts Collective for an honest review.
I was really surprised in how dark Death Layer was. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy reading darker romance books, I was just surprised my lovely girls Colleen and Celia were able to unleash such a group of depraved individuals. I read the synopsis and thought it would be similar to the recent MC books they have done, it was much darker. The MC was a little more mafia to me but made a believable villain.
The timeline seemed too short for everything that happened in Death Layer, and there was a lot going on. I wanted to feel good about the ending but I really needed there to be more connection between Bane and Ava.
Gotta say, Blair sounds like a character I hope to revisit with her own book.
I didn't receive this book in exchange for an honest review. I bought this book while it was on sale for $.99. I am glad that is all that I paid for it.

The story started off very intriguing but I had to immediately suspend disbelief. Ava applies on-line (think kraigslist) very late one night for her dream job working for one of the most prestigious multi-national corporations on the planet. Within minutes (keep in mind it is way after hours) she has landed an interview for the next morning. She has a group interview, does spectacular and is offered the job before the elevator that she is riding in with the other candidates hits the ground floor. She is hired and signs a non-disclosure which also gives the company access to all of her personal information (passwords included). The beginning of the book is a whirlwind, I almost forgot that this is supposed to be a MC book.
Fast forward, Ava goes to a secret underground meeting with her boss where she is introduced to the very dark side; women and boys chained to fences available to be used sexually, killer dog fights, human cage fights, sex slaves and human trafficking. I felt like a lot of this was for shock value. Ava's boss is in debt and as payment he gives the club Ava. Ava is then given to big, bad, alpha Bane “The Beast” Harme.
Bane starts out bad. Really bad. He is describes as, "a hardened killer, a ruthless bastard…100% tattoos and testosterone." Then he seems to do a complete turn around and he is nice. Very nice. He is Ava's savior. "He’s the best effing thing that’s ever happened to her. And they lived HEA (after a couple of killings and a cage fight that can only end with one survivor) of course.
A lot happened in the story but the plot just seemed disjointed. There were plot holes and unanswered questions. The book was unrealistic even for fiction. I suspended disbelief several times throughout the story.
Shwew! This was a very DARK disturbing MC read. At first, I wasn't sure I could finish it. Then, I wasn't sure I liked what I was reading. But then...then...I something sucked me in and I couldn't put it down.
The H, while Alpha and possessive, doesn't really show too much care for the h in the beginning. The h suffers because of this. See, she was kidnapped and "given" to the H. Even though he was a sort of good guy in the MC, he was still bad. He didn't want her, because he doesn't deal in the sex traffic stuff and didn't want to own anyone. The h of course doesn't either. She gives him attitude and fights left and right so he just leaves her at the mercy of the club skanks. It's pretty bad.
Finally the H starts showing he cares for her, only because of her never ending actions of trying to get free.
I have to say, this h is one of the only ones I've read about that actually act like a real, true strong woman would. She NEVER gave up and it was totally fun to read and cheer her on - even though she always got caught.
Again, it's dark - the title says it all. It's depraved and deals in death among other things.
Did it totally make sense, no. Did it have a lot of great characters? No, I hated everyone, LOL! Except the sister and the main couple. Even the next book is about a guy I didn't like. But, I'm sure he'll do something likable. It was very sexy and fun. The H, once he recognized what he wanted, was very protective of the h, so he made up for his earlier treatment of her IMO. I do recommend this read, but lightly. If you don't like the h being forced to be with the H (not sexually) or like the h being treated badly, than I would say stay away.
Ava, a 24 year old, red head, thinks she has landed the perfect job. Big Corporate America job, consisting of fine suits, a handsome boss and international travel. Unfortunately, Ava has no idea that her dream job is going to be her own personal nightmare.
Thrown into the dirty world of human trafficking, Eva is donated to Bane, "the Beast". Tattooed, large and threatening, Eva risks her life on more than one occasion trying to get away. Unsuccessful, she is in the burly "Beast's" sites more than ever now. As tempers flare and true colors come out, Eva ends up risking what she never even considered, her heart.
This book was a quick, light read. I didn't feel like I wasted my time, because after all, there really wasn't much time involved. The characters were ok, with the main hero being somewhat swoon worthy. The heroine wasn't overly confident as in some stories, (I mean c'mon, you're sold into sexual slavery, you're going to be scared, I don't care who you are). She also wasn't a complete moron. Nice....refreshing.
Truly, the one problem I have, is there's just so much missing. This seems to be a common problem with books like this. There is potential for a lot of story and yet, it's like the author had a word limit or something. The ending felt rushed and it made me feel like I needed to reduce my rating. Plus it just leaves the reader with that nauseating feeling of, "wow, that's it?"
Had the ending developed a bit more, I would have given five stars, but it just felt too rushed to be able to do that.
A dark and intense mc story which handles all kinds of issues. Depraved is definitely a good name for them! At first I wasn't sure about any hero who could be part of this club, thankfully Jenny redeemed him in my eyes as I was struggling to feel any love for him. It did take me a while to get into the story, too much was going on too quickly but I persevered and I'm glad I did as things improved resulting in a fast paced, hot and heavy read. Sadly I didn't fall in love with any of the supporting characters something I generally enjoy doing as I then feel that I have more to look forward to in a series...
When you start this book it doesn't seem like it is a dark and gritty biker book but hang on. Ava is in for a wild ride with her new boss, who ends up being a cold hearted pompous a$$ causing Ava to end up in a bad MC club that deals in multiple illegal things. Bane is the man who saves her. This story moves fast and is dark in places but you keep turning the pages to see what trouble Ava gets herself into next. This is another great biker book from Celia and Colleen. It involves plenty of violence, intense drama and bravery. I liked that there was an epilogue but would have loved to seen more of were it took Bane and Ava.
I received a gift copy in exchange for a honest review.
Bane aka the Beast sure has a soft side when it comes to Ava, "shhh," he whispers, rocking me. "You're ok. It's ok." I feel his lips press into my hair. "You're ok. You're a crazy, suicidal, stubborn pain in the a**. But you're ok." He says the sweetest things, "I would have died for you, baby," he murmurs. "But I'm awful glad I lived long enough to eff you." To me this was a good read I mean I had a few questions at the end of the book so it could have gone on a bit longer or just answered the questions.
Received a free copy for a honest review. I loved it. Storyline had unexpected twists and kept me on the edge of my seat. Badass Bane "the Beast receives Ava as a peace offering from his club President. Ava was a little too trusting of her new boss and ended up sold as a sex slave. Bane may be raw, gritty and a killer but there are some lines even he doesn't cross. He goes out of his way to protect Ava. Loved the chemistry and interaction between Bane and Ava. Definitely am OMG book!
Wow what can I say about this book I read it in one sitting, Anyone that knows me knows I love MC books but this one was so different from what I'm used too, and I loved it !! This book was very intense as I was reading it felt like I was at the edge of my chair wanting to know what was happening next ... This book is dark and not for the faint hearted . I love Bane aka the beast there was something about him from the start that I loved .
I usually don't read biker books but this one compelled me. The first few chapters had me hooked. Ava is a sweet girl who gets thrown into the big bad city life. I felt bad for about two seconds until I realized just how strong she is. No matter the situation she kept her strength. Bane is the big bad wolf but his heart is pure. You can't help but root for them. The scenes are hard but you know they are real some where. Great read.
Somewhere between straight up porn and erotic romance, Death Layer was a better read than I expected. Not great, but I was able to read the whole thing with minimal eye-rolling. Ava is too stupid to live in the beginning, then all of a sudden she flips her switch and gets her act together. The bikers (except for Bane) are over-the-top depraved as the name suggests.
I love college master's books so when I saw she had this book out I bought right away. we have death, love, kidnapping, slavery.I loved the book and can't wait until the next book. this book is not for faint of heart...
I was gifted a copy in exchange for honest review. This was a fast-paced intense read. I wasn't thrilled with Ava's actions or words at a few points especially the stairway escape. Bane was amazing and loved how within all the dark, intense things that were happening around them, he was always a great guy. All in all, I enjoyed it and it kept me interested and reading to see what happens next.
This book started with an idea of a romance between a CEO and a sweet, young assistant, but then you get an unexpected twist! I really didn't see it coming... I must confess I expected more of a bad guy from Bane, but instead got a good, decent man with principles that you don't see often in a MC book! Even expecting more from the story, I liked this book.
This book was a good read. It was a little dark for me in the beginning, but I really enjoyed it. It was well written and edited. I couldn't put it down. I can't wait for the next book in this series!
Dark & powerful story that drew me right into unimaginable horrors; brilliant! So much action packed into 3 days. Looking forward to further collaboration between Masters/Loren. Great stuff, ladies. Bring it on...
it is the first time i am reading a dark novel.it was really great.but...i didn't gave five stars because i think that after the first half of this book it was written very hurriedly.
