"There's no need to turn into someone else. Because you are you. Thanks to your hair, we're able to spot you right away. Just seeing it cheers people up. We'll miss it if it's gone. That hair is your trademark. It's your best feature! You've gotta embrace it and show the world! My best feature? You can tell just by looking, can't you? It's my whole body!"

Gosh, I'm really not sure why I let this one fall to the bottom of my TBR. This series, and this volume in particular, is so damn good. It's so much more than a simple body positivity manga -- it's a great mystery as well, with fully three-dimensional and fleshed out characters, and a tone that balances comedy, heartfelt emotions, and nerve-wracking suspense really well!

In this volume, Yumeko is forced to contend with her past self a bit more, which I think is beginning to scare her. I can only imagine what it would be like to have a whole past self that you remember nothing about, who supposedly is a complete 180 from who you are now. However, I love Keisuke's encouragement that she is still her no matter what. Her past self still doesn't deserve to be put down and despised just because she wasn't as confident as she is now -- I love that this is really a manga about accepting all parts of yourself, even the ugly parts you don't want to look at. It's not enough to love yourself when you're beautiful and happy and doing well, you have to love yourself when you're struggling and downtrodden and feel ugly, too. It's such a great message that to me, never feels condescending towards the viewer, but more feels like an honest encouragement. I really love the way Mamakari is going about this series!

Yumeko is my idol and hero. All the praise she heaps upon herself is so true! I adore her. <3 This series is such a rare gem. I highly recommend it.

I love Yumeko’s outgoing personality. Albeit, this is the “new” her after the memory loss, but she’s who I aspire to be daily. Able to get past the awkward moments of social anxiety and just going for it.

In this book, she got to see a photo of herself before and the gloomy person she saw, she didn’t recognize. She’s a changed woman. We also found out a little bit more about the VP and his friendship that is being misconstrued as adultery. But along with that, we got a little insight into what could have happened on the day that Yumeko almost died.

The more I read of this, the more I want to continue to find out what happened. While this is mostly a happy-go-lucky personality based friendship book about loving yourself, there is still a romance and a mystery element that keeps you coming back for more.

Thank you to Harper Alley for my gifted copy of the book.

Plus-Sized Misadventures in Love!, Volume 2
by mamakari

Thank you to William Morrow for the gifted copy 💕📚

This volume continues to be unexpectedly charming, thoughtful, and genuinely fun. What starts as a rom-com manga leans into something a little more layered here, mixing identity, self-worth, and found family with light mystery and humor 🌸🕵️‍♀️

Yumeko’s amnesia flips the entire emotional center of the story. Her new outlook on life is brighter, kinder to herself, and far more open to connection, and the most interesting part is realizing that everyone around her seems to prefer this version of her. That tension, between who she was and who she’s afraid to become again, adds real emotional weight beneath the comedy.

What Worked Really Well
• Strong plus-size representation without making confidence feel effortless 💖
• Found family vibes in the workplace, which continues to be a highlight
• A gentle mystery thread that adds intrigue without overpowering the romance 🔍
• Expressive dialogue bubbles that clearly convey tone and emotion
• A fast, easy reading experience that still leaves you thinking

Koda remains a standout for me. Her confidence and self-assured energy balance Yumeko beautifully, and the supportive dynamics among the cast make the story feel warm and inviting. The art style still isn’t my personal favorite across the board, but certain characters really shine, and the visual storytelling does a great job carrying emotional beats.

That said, the humor can be a little hit or miss. Some of the fat jokes feel overused and occasionally undercut the tenderness of the story. Still, the overall tone remains kind-hearted and sincere, and the narrative clearly knows what it wants to say about self-perception and growth.

Vibe Check
Cute, cozy, lightly chaotic, and surprisingly reflective 🌷✨

Overall Thoughts

This is a sweet continuation that deepens the story while keeping it accessible and fun. If you enjoyed the first volume, this one adds more emotional texture and curiosity about where Yumeko’s journey will land next. I’m definitely sticking with this series 💞

Book Review: Plus-Sized: Advantages in Love

Plus-Sized: Advantages in Love is a refreshing, affirming exploration of relationships that reframes body size not as a barrier to love, but as a source of emotional depth, clarity, and strength. Rather than centering on struggle alone, the book highlights how lived experience in a plus-sized body can foster healthier, more intentional romantic connections.

One of the book’s strongest contributions is its emphasis on authentic attraction. It argues that plus-sized individuals often attract partners who are genuinely interested, not performative or status-driven. Love, in this framing, is built on choice and presence rather than superficial validation. This perspective feels both honest and empowering, especially in a culture that frequently equates desirability with narrow beauty standards.

The author also does meaningful work unpacking emotional intelligence. Navigating a world that can be critical or dismissive encourages many plus-sized people to develop empathy, communication skills, and self-awareness—qualities that translate into strong, emotionally grounded partnerships. The book avoids romanticizing hardship, instead showing how resilience can evolve into relational wisdom.

Another standout theme is boundaries and discernment. The book suggests that plus-sized daters are often quicker to identify red flags and less willing to settle for inconsistency or disrespect. Love becomes less about proving worth and more about mutual care, safety, and shared values. This shift reframes dating not as a scarcity mindset, but as a selective, self-respecting process.

The tone throughout is validating without being preachy. The writing blends reflection, cultural critique, and relatable insight, making it accessible to a wide audience. While the book speaks most directly to plus-sized readers, its broader message—about self-acceptance, intentional love, and rejecting harmful norms—resonates universally.

Plus-Sized: Advantages in Love is a reassuring and confidence-building read for anyone navigating dating, relationships, or self-worth. Its core message is clear and deeply affirming: love is not something you earn by shrinking yourself—it’s something you experience fully by showing up as you are.

Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher, for providing me with an advanced e-copy for an honest review.

I was excited to continue with this manga, I had read the first volume and found it very cute, and even though it's not the type of manga that I usually read, as I mentioned in my review for the first volume, I still enjoy myself while reading this. This manga is a breath of fresh air in terms of representation; I still love how confident and self-assured Koda is. I really appreciated this kind of found family the mangaka creates within the workplace, also I liked the mystery aspect, even though it doesn't take much of this storyline. Some of the comedy It's a bit hit and miss for me, some of the fat jokes are a little bit too much, but this is overall very cute. As for the more technical stuff, the art style is not my favorite, although there are some characters that I like more than others in terms of this style that they were drawn in, like for example I really like the drawing for Hiroki Maezono. I really like the way the dialogue the bubbles were arranged, they were easy to follow, and they were able to convey emotions very well. I really enjoyed the manga, and I will definitely continue on.

Yumeko is relieved to finally find her missing phone, which was confiscated unknowingly as part of the police investigation. She then goes on a trip with her boss to Hokkaido to secure more potatoes for her new potato chip project. Later, the Vice President gives her his contact information to begin communicating via text because he won’t be able to meet her in the park as much. One of Yumeko’s co-workers confesses he has a crush on a coworker from another department, but he lacks confidence due to his excessively curly hair. Yumeko helps him to make the first move and to have confidence in himself.

Yumeko continues to exude positivity and self-confidence, and it thankfully spreads to another person in this volume. The comedic moments are often elaborate and accentuated with boisterous illustrations. The mystery takes a bit of a backseat in favor of furthering Yumeko's career plot points and the interpersonal relationships around the office, and we only get a few more intriguing bits at the very end to serve as cliffhangers to lead us into the next volume.

This is the second volume, so you might want to start woth thr first, but you get the picture from this. Yumeko’s accident takes away all of her self consciousness and she sees herself as beautiful in a way that may be confusing to others, but to have that kind of unbridled confidence and lack of caring about what anyone else says would be a dream everyone would love to achieve. The art is cute and the crushing and main character are absolutely adorable. If you need a cute and silly Manga, this is the perfect option.

Yumeko continues with her larger than life personality when she is confronted by an old picture of herself. Rattled to try and recover the lost memory, she continues to grow close to the VP including exchanging information. Of course, with the annoying detective up in her business and stealing her phone, things go sideways as the speculation surrounding her accident continues to confound.

I enjoyed Volume 2 and now need to get my hands on Volume 3 so I can figure out what happens.

It's complicated. Plus-size stories are few and far between in manga, and as far as they go this one has a great story, beautiful art, and fun character dynamics.

The problem is that her size and her confidence are played off as a joke, but sometimes they're taken seriously, and her body shape is deeply inconsistent. I'm glad a plus size person is a romantic lead, but I wish she wasn't portrayed as delusional instead of just hyper-confident? But at least she's a person and not a punchline.

After losing her memory, her entire personality changes—and everyone seems to prefer the new her. While a detective investigates whether someone tried to kill her, she’s focused on living her best life, even as she’s terrified of remembering what happened and becoming the person she was before the accident. The art is cute, and the story is very intriguing.
