A fun dragon book with more than some ATLA in its DNA
A fun middle grade dragon adventure book that wears its Avatar: The Last Airbender influences proudly, yet stands on its own merits. I eagerly await the sequels that are surely in the wings.
I don't know much about Lazy Scales or WoF, didn't read either. But it didn't keep me from enjoying this book (and its prequel, and, since I'm late writing my review, its sequel). Well written, each of the characters get their own vibes. Some endearing, some less, but all move along with their adventure and the challenges it brings. Not all challenges are material, far from it... even more of that in the next book.
In his latest book, DM Gilmore introduce us to a new world inhabited entirely by dragons from several different races and cultures. This take is refreshing for dragon fans: there's no pesky human in sight! The book sees two young dragons, one which came from nobility; the other a humble orphan, and their pains of growing up and finding their place in the world. The plot borders on imprevisible sometimes, which is awesome and keeps you on your toes! It starts extremely strong, then in the middle chapters the author slows down to do way more lore and world building, and by the end of the book the plot thickens again. I highly recommend fans of fantasy books to check out this one! I guarantee you'll be not only entertained, but emotionally involved with the dragons here!
I think I saw it compared to Wings of Fire x Avatar at some point, and I feel like the comparison is apt:
The Lost Firebreather is the first part of a nice coming-of-age story about a young dragon, orphaned and adopted by a different tribe, who goes out into the world to learn more about his past and his abilities.
The world of TLF is vibrant and its characters are endearing. As with his previous books, I quite enjoy DM Gilmore's prose.
Please consider giving this a read if you like dragon books at all :)
Absolutely amazing book, love the characters and can’t wait to see what more the author has to bring to the table with the rest of the series. Would preorder the books if it was even possible😅
An incredible read and page turner. I also loved EVERY character, all of them feel so real and lovable. I really enjoyed the ATLA vibes but the story very much has many unique qualities.
A new entries series from Gilmore, considering how much I love their Lazyscales books, I was pretty excited to see a new front. In this book the author keep all of their writting characteristics that made me like their books. From the easy understanding writting to the characters being authentic. In all forms this entry book of the serie is pretty straightfoward and made me create some expectations to the sequels on how the story and world will developt! Really recommend this book being read
