The prologue sets up the magical realism aspect of this story well. We learn that when Maya (h) wishes for something out loud, it comes true. Sometimes with repercussions that she’s aware of, but possibly not. We also learn that wishes don’t automatically make you happy. Aside from the wishes and a possibly magical feline later in the book (I didn’t think that element was developed enough btw), this is a regular ole contemporary romance. Liam (H) is a single dad, a chef, and the next door neighbor of Maya’s best friend. He’s flabbergasted when Maya shows up suddenly to visit because, well, they shared something one night two years ago and Maya acts like she doesn’t recall…because she doesn’t. The story focuses on what Maya doesn’t remember about Liam, whether they’re building something new and lasting, parenting Liam’s adorable young daughter, and some fears that spring up related to Maya’s BFF.

This is the second book in the series and it does standalone since I didn’t read that book and had no issues following along. However, that couple feature prominently in this story in a way that I think the reader may feel more engaged having read that book first. I was actually kind of frustrated at how much page time was being devoted to this prior couple’s challenges, even though they were heart wrenching. It’s just, they also took the focus off the main couple of THIS book. That was one of my frustrations while reading.

Written in first person, dual POV. No ow/om drama and both are experienced (H had been celibate since being with the h two years prior, h doesn’t remember him and was not celibate). The h actually re-meets the H wearing a wedding dress as she runs away from her most relationship, though there’s no drama.

Some tropes/themes:
☆ Magical realism
☆ Wealthy, jetsetter type FMC
☆ Chef MMC now running a diner
☆ Child with Type 1 diabetes
☆ Side character with lupus
☆ Single parenting
☆ A kind of specific magical amnesia
☆ Cute animal sidekicks
☆ Found family
☆ Side character with high risk pregnancy
☆ Toxic family dynamics
☆ Small, cozy town
☆ Comfort foods

Both mains are likable here. Maya is energetic and sweet. She also somehow intuitively does just the right thing when Liam needs it, making her somewhat too good to be true. Liam was amazing. He wants to feed Maya and shower her with adoration, who wouldn’t be on board with that? The foodie details are fantastic and will make you hungry. He’s not as naturally warm and fuzzy though as Maya. He’s downright grumpy or intense at first with her too, at least until he realizes why she acts like she doesn’t know him (which he took surprisingly well, the ease of that conversation was a lil unreal). However, they’re overall adorable and it’s a quickly developed bond, even when they’re floundering around each other unsure if what’s simmering between them could be a real relationship.

There is some leaning on an insta-connection feel and, to some degree, this murky past shared moment. Flashbacks that show how their first meeting went down flesh out that background for the reader, but they’re also spread out through the book. Most of the present day scenes are taking care of Liam’s daughter, Poppy, supporting Maya’s BFF, and some day to day. Maya having recently almost gotten married is touched on, but not as much as you’d imagine. It’s sort of lumped into a series of bad men choices she makes (with Liam being the exception). The chemistry only has a mild payoff btw because there is some spice here, but it’s not super explicit and a couple moments are fade to black. Some is on page, I personally didn’t find it as fulfilling as I prefer in my romances.

I do feel like several times in the book the characters made references to information that I wish had been on page or something is summarized when it would have been better to have the scene occur. At times it felt awkward and others it was frustrating. In general, the flow of the story and the writing style weren’t my favorite. Even scenes that were meant to be cute wore on me, like Poppy calling Maya “Princess Maya”, I was almost rolling my eyes by the end as it continued.

I also think the story felt predictable, particularly with the build-up to what ultimately happened with the BFF. Which again, as emotional as it was, took the spotlight from Maya and Liam. The next book is probably Maya’s BFF’s brother’s story, who’s also Liam’s best friend/Poppy’s godfather (I know). I can only imagine that everyone’s going to be piled into that one too. It felt muddled here and my guess is will feel more so there.

There’s no third act breakup. Officially they’re not a couple really until the third act if I recall the timing right. Both Maya and Liam have to reflect on insecurities, what they want, and have some deeper conversations. By the end they’re officially living together, Poppy’s ecstatic, they’re in love, and there’s some last sweetness for the epilogue with a final smidge of the magical realism. I wasn’t a fan of this read personally, but I could see it being something mostly light and magical for the right reader.

Liam used to be a famous chef living in New York, but now he’s a single dad running a diner in a small town. Maya is a businesswoman who travels the world and comes to visit her best friend. The two spent a night together two years ago—but why doesn’t she remember him now?

This is the second book in the Sugar Valley series, and I want to start by saying that I absolutely love Theo and Ellie from the first book. I internally squealed when I realized they would be an integral part of this story. And I was beyond happy when Ezra showed up, too! I can’t wait for his book.

Okay, back to Liam and Maya. Liam completely stole my heart—he’s a caring dad to the sweetest little girl, and he cooks deliciously! How could anyone not love him? Maya is also incredibly kind and sweet. The way she supported Ellie and bonded with Poppy was truly heartwarming!

One of the main tropes is magical realism, so there’s a touch of magic and wonder in the story. This is such a warm and cozy book that left me feeling so happy. And at the end, there are even recipes from Liam! That was so sweet.

While One More Wish is a standalone, I would recommend reading A Little Magic first. I can't wait to return to Sugar Valley!

"One More Wish" by Lindsey Lanza is a great addition to the Sugar Valley series! Great banter, very descriptive, lots of fun. I *loved* Liam so, so much. Talk about a cinnamon roll of a main character! He and Maya have great chemistry together. I also loved the dynamic between Liam and Ellie, his daughter, and Ellie and Maya. The best part about this book is its chronic illness representation. Lanza does a spectacular job showing just how much of one's life revolves around chronic illness when they are sick, particularly invisible illnesses. I did like the magical realism element to this story as well. I can't wait to see where this series goes.

Thank you to Lindsey Lanza for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.

My rating: 3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tropes:
- second chance
- magical realism
- chef & travel blogger
- single dad
- forced proximity
- found family
- dual POV

It was a sweet second-chance story filled with magic, about a woman who ran away from her own wedding and a single dad. I really liked Liam—chef heroes, and single dads are one of my weaknesses 😆

The book had a Hot Frosty movie vibe—there’s no snowman here, but there is magic that no one questions. A perfect read when you're in the mood for something cute—and if you're not on a diet 🤭

Thank you to Lindsey Lanza for providing this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I am OBSESSED with this dual POV, small town romance book!! The magical realism, the found family, the disability rep (dyslexia, type 1 diabetes, lupus, asthma), animal sidekicks, cute children, the FOOOD, omg, the FOOD!!

Liam is a single father Michelin starred chef who lives to make Maya happy by making her delicious food. His daughter Poppy is absolutely adorable and the female friendship between Maya and Ellie (from the first Sugar Valley book) is complete #FriendshipGoals. Need I go on?? Maya also has the unique ability to make anything she wishes for out loud come true but there are always unforeseen consequences.

Highly recommended if you enjoy authors like Rebecca Serle or books like Off the beaten path by Madison Wright. BONUS: lots of the recipes mentioned in the book are included at the end. I voluntarily read an early digital copy and all opinions are my own.

I love the way Lindsey Lanza writes romances y’all. And even though they are spicy, I love the way that is approached too. It feels genuine to the romance and progression of the story and I love how close it brings the characters together. I adored this tender romance. It doesn’t have a big complicated plot, it’s just two people who found each other…again.

The magical realism aspects were just right. I’m hit or miss on them and I liked the little dash Maya’s ability gave this story. And I appreciated how it connected with life and all of its ups and downs. The chronic illness representation is, as always, amazing. It’s eye opening and raw. Combining that with a beautiful and strong support system really squeezes my heart.

I looooved Liam. He’s a walking green flag. I loved seeing his growth, as well as Maya’s. I loved how they approached hard conversations, worked together, and did their best to communicate big emotions. I clearly am in love with every character in this series and it was great being back in Sugar Valley.

Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Romance
- Language: mild – moderate
- Romance: 3-4 open door
- Violence: low
- Content warnings: chronic illness (lupus, type 1 diabetes), pregnancy complications (side character)

Oh how sweet in was to be back in Sugar Valley 😌

Liam was a hot chef fs 🥵 I loved how down bad he was for his sweet little girl Poppy - he truly would do anything for her. & Maya, the girl he never forgot (I’m so so happy they got their second chance) 💞

I didn’t fully love the magical realism but I thought it added cute little elements into the story - it just threw me off sometimes.

Also I’ve said if before and l say it again - THANK GOODNESS for books that don’t have a third act breakup! 👏🏼 it wasn’t at all needed for this story and I’m so glad it wasn’t included.

I loved how much of Theo, Ellie, and Stevie that we got in this book! A Little Magic will forever be my favorite book by Lindsey and those characters are all so special to me 🥰

What to Expect:
💫 magical realism
💁🏻‍♂️ single dad
🔄 forced proximity
🏡 small town
🧑🏻‍🍳 “yes, chef”

[arc, expected release date: March 18, 2025] • unfortunately this one wasn't for me, dnfed it at 22% • I didn't enjoy the whole magical realism from the very beginning, but thought "ok, I'll give it a try". the book got me interested, because I so wanted to know why Maya didn't remember meeting (and having the best sex of her life, apparently) Liam. when the reason was explained around 22% (the whole her wishing she forgot him, and of course her wish came true) I just rolled my eyes • sorry, not for me, but you will enjoy it if you like elements of magic realism in your romance books •

Liam Harley has built a quiet life as a single dad in Sugar Valley, but he can’t forget the past—especially the night he met Maya Bloom. When she unexpectedly arrives in town, he sees a chance to rewrite their story… except she has no idea who he is.
One More Wish is the second book in the Sugar Valley Series, however each book can be read as a standalone!

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐋𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝:
Small town, hot chef, travel blogger, diner vibes, a touch of magic... so much to love here!

Usually the single dad trope doesn’t work for me, (because the child is typically bratty or annoying)...BUT Liam’s daughter Poppy is anything but this. The relationship between Liam and Poppy (who has T1D) is so so sweet, and Poppy’s admiration for “Princess” Maya warmed my heart. What I like about Lindsey’s books is that they always go beyond a love story, and in this story we have chronic illness + caregiving rep which was done really well and made me feel that much more for the characters.

Also, can we talk about all the food that is devoured in these pages? I would live at Liam’s diner IRL..sipping on milkshakes & munchin’ on brownies 😮‍💨🥤😋

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫:
✔️ single dad
✔️ found family
✔️ michelin chef turned diner owner
✔️ magical realism x dual pov
✔️ chronic illness rep
✔️ she’s a blogger and self proclaimed nomad
✔️ a cat named Mr.Milkshake

It is always so sweet when you have the opportunity to revisit characters and towns in books.

One More Wish is the second book in the Sugar Valley series. I received an arc for A Little Magic and was lucky enough to receive one for One More Wish too. While One More Wish focuses on Maya and Liam, I was so excited to see how Ellie and Theo grew up! In A Little Magic, I was so frustrated for Ellie and the way her mom treated her with her illness, so I loved seeing her in her adult years. This was exactly what I needed from this story!

The relationships in this book are so beautifully written. I could feel all of the love between Ellie and Maya, Liam and Poppy, Maya and Poppy, and then the chemistry between Maya and Liam. They obviously all cared for each other very deeply and as a reader, you can feel it through the pages. Love is oozing through the pages in this book!

This book also has two of my absolute favorite tropes: small town romance and found family. If a romance book has either of these two tropes, there is a high chance that I will enjoy it.

The one aspect of this book that I did not like was the magical realism aspect. In general, I do not enjoy magical realism in books and this book does have a touch of it with Maya's wishes. However, I must note that this is just my personal preference and is not reflective of the author's writing.

This book is available on March 18, 2025.

Y tenemos a Liam.

Well, no surprise… I loved this! Sugar Valley - why can’t you be a real place? It was so fun to go back to this town, catch up on the previous characters, and meet / get to know some new ones. Getting to say hello to Ellie & Theo again was so much fun. & I loved seeing Maya & Ellie’s friendship in real time. They’re truly soul sisters. Liam, what a green flag / golden retriever MMC. 😍 A single dad & a chef. Swoon. There’s lots of yummy food, adorable & silly animals, chronic illness reps, fabulous banter, & …. a little magic. 😉 I’m sad it’s over & can’t wait to go back to Sugar Valley for book 3! Definitely recommend this one, friends!

Loved, loved, loved this book!

Thank you Lindsey Lanza for the ARC copy! This is the first book I’ve read from the Sugar Valley series and I have to say I fell in love with all the characters. I’m definitely going back to read the first in the series.

I enjoyed the story’s pace and Liam is so swoony. The description of the food had me salivating. I especially loved the dynamics between Poppy and Maya.

If you’re into magical realism, hot chefs, and beautiful friendships, give this book a try!

“What kind of magic are you?”

I am an absolute sucker for a swoony single dad romance, and Maya and Liam have joined Cade/Willa (Elsie Silver) and Kai/Miller (Liz Tomforde) as another one of my favorite duos of this trope.

Lindsey Lanza knows how to pull me in and keep me thoroughly invested in her world and characters the entire time I’m reading. It’s been that way with every book I’ve read of hers, and this one was no different. Her writing just makes you feel, and I honestly didn’t want this book to end. And there’s a book three, you say? Count me all the way in.

Things I Loved:
🍴Liam “I live to feed you” Harley - Oh, how I fell for this man… I mean, his love language is cooking for others (the constant menu planning for her got me), he has his own greenhouse, looks like a lumberjack, is the sweetest father (that braid tutorial), and is so damn genuine. He is top tier book bf material, and I audibly swooned when he said, “Anything for my girls.”
🍴Maya - I love how she supported Poppy as well as her friends. The ease with which she entered the family dynamics and the fun, positive energy she brought was lovely to read.
🍴The Romance - “I didn’t know I could feel this way, not this quickly.” ““I didn’t know I could feel this way at all.” These two. I felt their angst and passion in my bones.
🍴Poppy - “Nothing could have prepared me for the trials of parenting.” I adored her character. Call out that ignorance, girl.
🍴Ellie and Maya’s Friendship - “It just solidified that with or without men, we’d always have each other.”
🍴The Chronic Illness Rep
🍴Dual POV and (a little bit of) Dual Timeline - Those flashbacks. The flirting. The tension!
🍴Theo and Ellie - I was pleasantly surprised with how involved they were in this book. One would think that such a strong presence from book one main characters would detract from the new leads, but it didn’t at all. It was so well balanced and, for me, only added to the love I feel for these people and this place.
🍴The Found Family - “[…] parenting is a team sport. Her mother might not have stuck around, but my friends have become the kind of family I’d be lost without.” This goes with the above note, but this entire group has my heart. Shoutout to the “Girl Dads Chat,” no matter its size, and to dancing out your feelings.
🍴The Little Bit of Magic - I enjoyed how the magic of the first book flowed into this one with its own unique twist.

Favorite Quotes:
🍫 “Why is it that we make time for the things we feel we have to do, the mundane tasks or grueling work, but when it comes to something that we simply want, it always gets put on the backburner?”
🧀 “And I promised I wouldn’t hurt you. That includes not letting you hurt yourself.”
🍫 “I don’t want anything from you. I want things for you.”
🧀 “A dairy farm and cheese tasting? That’s what does it for you?”

Maya has a secret: every single wish she’s ever made has come true. Except they usually backfire so she doesn’t tell anyone about her secret. When she wished to forget the best one-night stand of her life after he ghosted her, Liam is royally confused as to why she doesn’t remember him when they find themselves in each other’s orbit two years later. Turns out, he never forgot her and sees a second chance for them. But she’s wary because of her “faulty” memory and her poor track record with men. Meanwhile, there’s also a lot of plotline about Ellie and Theo who we met in the first book in the series, A Litttle Magic.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️

Liked
* I genuinely liked all of these characters. Liam’s persistence, Poppy’s energy, Ezra’s caretaking of Ellie.
* I loved how much of the plot was actually about Ellie and Theo. A Little Magic was one of my top reads last year and probably the best holiday book I’ve ever read.
* Sugar Valley remains such a special place that I really would like to visit.

Disliked
Unfortunately there were many elements to this story that just didn’t work for me.
* First, the magical realism part about her wish making. It felt like a blunt instrument in the book. This book lacked the whimsy I enjoy from magical realism.
* Second, Liam and Maya’s relationship was like a bad experience at a fast casual restaurant. Everything was haltingly abrupt and not well served. (Why did she follow him into his kid’s school on like day two of knowing him? Why do they just bone when his kid is right there? How did they skip pretty much the entire dating process?)
* I really didn’t love how convenient the end was. No spoilers, and I’m happy with the overall outcome, but it was just too nicely tied up in a little bow and just too easy.
* Her employment situation made absolutely NO sense. Even if it was a family business, this structure of her coming in only to close the big deals but otherwise she’s never working? That’s so unbelievable.

🫡 Tropes deployed: magical realism, ONS to lovers, forced proximity, chef MMC

What to expect:
Magical Realism

Single Dad (Hot Chef)
Small Town
Fierce Friendships
Forced Proximity
Type 1 Diabetes Representation
Open Door (few scenes)
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, A Little Magic, so I was eager to pick this one up. It was different from the first book, but not in a bad way! I enjoyed Liam, Maya, and Poppy—all individually and together. And it was great to see characters from A Little Magic again. My favorite part may have been the many yummy food references––you’ll be salivating just reading it.

The only thing that didn’t quite work for me was the magical realism component. It was such a small part of the novel itself yet, at the same time, was a major plot point to making everything else work. Sometimes I felt it was too abstract for the world we were in. But once I got myself past that, it all worked out. At times I wanted it to be a little more drawn out where it wasn’t, but that’s just my preference. Overall, it’s a quick read with a HEA. I hope we get Ezra’s story next because I will for sure be reading that one :)

This is such a beautiful story about finding somewhere to call home, whether that’s a place, or a person (or people) 🥰

The strongest element in this story is found family, and Lindsey writes it beautifully.

I love all the relationships in this book - there are a lot of connections between all the characters, and there is so much love and support for people who have found each in this small town.
Hoping to see a 3rd book for Ezra!

As for the main couple, Maya & Liam have a second chance at getting to know each other - though only one of them remembers the first time they met/spent time together!
(some magical realism with wishes coming true 💫)

In a single parent romance, I need the non-parent to develop their own relationship with the child, and Maya does that with Poppy - she falls in love with her too.

I love that Liam is able to give her a (literal) taste of her Jetsetter lifestyle with his cooking.
Don’t read this one on an empty stomach! So many delicious details 😋

⭐️: 5/5
🌶️: open door, several scenes

read if you love:

LIAM HARLEY, THE MAN THAT YOU ARE!!! OMG, any book from Lindsey Lanza is an absolute win for me, and One More Wish did not disappoint. I adored Maya and Liam from the start. The friendship between Ellie and Maya was top-tier, and I felt like I was looking at my own friendships while reading. I also loved how close-knit the Sugar Valley community was. All the characters looked out for each other without hesitation, and I loved that. I'm also obsessed with the single-dad trope, and Liam's relationship with Poppy had me swooning the whole time. Everything about this book felt like a warm hug, and if I could live in Sugar Valley, I so would. Also, Liam's culinary skills, WHEW. Everything he made sounded incredible, and I loved that Lindsey included recipes. This book was amazing; it was full of my favorite tropes and a magical love story. Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC to read and review!

What a delight it was to be back in Sugar Valley! One More Wish follows Maya, Ellie’s best friend, who escapes to Sugar Valley after a simple wish reveals some heartbreaking truths… and she’s decided to never make a wish again.

I love how Lanza writes about how true love comes in many forms and highlights the love that has bonded Maya and Ellie’s friendship over the years. They are bosom friends and would venture across oceans to be at each other’s side in times of need. How I would love to join these besties for a Gilmore Girls marathon!

Lanza also does an incredible job of writing chronic illness and pain representation in such an authentic way. I appreciated so much how she spoke about invisible illness and gives readers with similar lived experiences the opportunity to be seen and supported.

My biggest issue was with not just with how Maya immediately inserted herself into Poppy’s life and took on a caregiver role, but how Liam basically allowed a stranger to take care of and look after his daughter. Reading this as a parent made me extremely uncomfortable and I was shocked that Liam who is a caring, overprotective parent would allow someone who knew for all of five minutes to do something like attend a parent teacher conference and make decisions about HIS child.

I was such a huge fan of A Little Magic. There is something very special about that book. I’m a huge magical realism girlie and I was really excited to see if this second book would live up to the first. Sadly it didn’t.

It was an easy enough read that I was able to finish it pretty quickly, there was just nothing in the story that captivated me.

Super cute, just like the first book. Who doesn’t love a romcom that takes places in a small town during fall/the holidays?

I was very lucky to get gifted an e-arc as part of Lindsey’s street team. I absolutely love Lindsey’s books and this one can now get added to this list!

We go back to Sugar Valley to meet Maya and Liam, friends to Ellie and Theo from book one. Maya has the ability to wish for what she wants. Adding “I wish” can give Maya whatever she wants, but not without consequence. This creates such an interesting premise for this storyline, especially when we meet Liam (hot chef and single dad) and realise that actually Liam and Maya have met before. Liam is hoping for that second chance, but Maya doesn’t remember him…

This book gives the same cosy and heartfelt read as Book 1 did. Chronic illness representation is really good, giving you a different but highly emotive perspective. The characters are well developed, their chemistry and connection a stand out part. The found family vibes, the second chance pining, and Poppy (Liam’s daughter)… Lindsey’s writing just draws you in.

There’s a very strong link to book 1, so I’d definitely recommend reading that one first (it’s also great!)

Thank you Lindsey Lanza for this ARC and the opportunity to provide an honest review. Returning to Sugar Valley was magical! Although this is a standalone novel, I personally think it’s worth reading A Little Magic first for emotional impact. One More Wish is about Maya & Liam, but Ellie & Theo (from A Little Magic) are heavily involved in the plot.

There are so many moments in this book that made me laugh, cry, and swoon. For most of the story, my eyes were watery with either happy or sad tears. I felt a rollercoaster of emotions because there were many subplots happening at the same time between all the different characters. This book isn’t just a love story between Maya and Liam. It’s a love story of two best friends, Maya & Ellie; it’s a story of a single dad doing his best for his daughter; it’s also the next chapter in Theo & Ellie’s love story. Lindsey Lanza… damn girl, way to pull on all my heartstrings. ❤️

Liam quickly became my favorite single dad in a romance book. His love for his daughter Poppy is the sweetest, and their relationship is a highlight of this book. Poppy has Type 1 diabetes, so Liam prepares low-sugar versions of her favorite foods and teaches her how to be confident around children at school. Also, Poppy has no filter as a 7-year-old, so her and Liam’s interactions are hilarious.

“Maybe that’s why she’s cursed! Because she was looking for a prince but what she really needed was a daddy.”🤣

I’m SO happy Maya got her own story after meeting her in A Little Magic. We got to see a lot more of Maya and Ellie’s dynamic together in this book, which I really appreciated. Their friendship is full of love and encouragement. “Princess” Maya’s relationship with Poppy is also precious! Maya naturally steps in as Maya’s new best friend and motherly figure. 🥰

The romance between Maya and Liam was chef’s kiss (pun intended). I found myself thinking “YES CHEF” when it came to Liam’s sexy moves in and out of the kitchen. This man clearly knows how to flirt and he is honest with his feelings. Sign me up for a cooking lesson! 👨‍🍳🔥

“If you’re a good girl and follow my instructions, I’ll let you touch the crème brûlée later.”
“Yes, chef.”

This small town, single-parent romance with a hint of magical realism was so cute! I read A Little Magic, which is the first book in this standalone series, in December and when I saw the opportunity to read the next one I was so excited.

I love these characters so much 😍 Poppy is adorable, Liam is the perfect everything, and Maya is so sweet. Liam and Poppy will honestly steal your heart with the sweet father-daughter dynamic and Maya and Poppy's relationship is so cute. It was incredible to see the innocence of a child making a new friend and meeting someone who they really look up to. Lanza writes their relationship so you can truly see the impact they have on each other. Liam is the perfect single-father and "did you eat?" boyfriend. His love language is food and I absolutely accept. Everything sounded so good, especially the desserts. He was so sweet; he tried to make everyone happy but also just wanted to be loved by Maya. Maya had so much growth throughout the story. Lanza showed her growth gradually in a way that felt very authentic. Maya is so loving and puts other people before herself--which is sometimes a fault but can also be a strength. I love her friendship with Ellie and the rest of the family. Ellie, Theo, and Ezra return in this book as side characters; you don't have to read A Little Magic to understand the dynamics and who everyone is. I am really excited for the way this could potentially set up Ezra's book! ALSO the animal characters are adorable and I want Penguin's cuddles 🥹

I love the themes of home, family, and hope that develop throughout the story. Found family and found home are such big messages for me. This book definitely embodies those messages. I also love the added element of magical realism! It added just enough to not overwhelm the story but added another powerful theme. I also love the representation of chronic illnesses that Lanza writes--in this book discussing Lupus and Type 1 Diabetes. Lanza also did a great job discussing single parenthood, teaching your kids social-emotional skills and searching for home. Very excited for whatever she writes next!

Thank you Lindsey Lanza for this ARC (advance reader copy) in exchange for an honest review. And extra thank you for starting me on my ARC journey!

This was a cute and easy read—like the literary equivalent of a cupcake: sweet, enjoyable, but probably not something I’ll remember in detail three years from now (see: my complete amnesia regarding book one in the Sugar Valley series). Apparently, I’ve met Ellie and Theo before, but, I just… don’t recall them. So, naturally, I gave this one the same rating as the first—consistency is key, even if memory is not.

Maya and Liam were… fine. Like, rom-com-background-noise-while-you-do-laundry fine. Cute, mildly spicy, but I never really felt that deep emotional connection to them.

That said, I did appreciate the inclusion of real-life health struggles woven into the story. That added some much-needed depth and made Maya more relatable.

Speaking of wishing—so, Liam. Buddy. I love a good magical realism twist, but your logic was something else: “You’re telling me your wishes are coming true and that’s why you forgot me? Totally believable. Makes sense. Anyway, I love you.” That escalated very quickly.

Now, Ezra—that’s a name I’ll remember. That man has mysterious side-character energy and I’m here for it. He was just interesting enough to make me say, “Huh. What’s his deal?”

In short: cute book, decent vibes, not life-changing, but good for a cozy weekend read when your brain wants something sweet but undemanding.

Not surprising in the least, but I LOVED THIS BOOK. I knew I would because it’s Lindsey Lanza, BUT oh my goodness, I could hardly handle how cute, fun and sweet this story was. Maya and Liam were both such great characters and their chemistry is OFF THE CHARTS. And THE FOOD. The food descriptions were top notch and made me want a milkshake immediately. I also loved getting to see Ellie, Theo and Ezra again. Ellie and Maya’s friendship was so wonderfully written and had me tearing up several times. Also, POPPY. She was an absolute delight. And of course, as a big fan of magical realism, I thought it was done so well here, especially since Sugar Valley is 100% a magical town in my opinion. Also, when can I move there? Seriously though, such a beautiful and sweet romance with some bonus adorable animals that nothing bad happens to!
