Sometimes really interesting, other times feeling like a retread of book 1. The book definitely went a few places I wasn't expecting, especially in the gradual reveal of the backstory.

The middle third of the book definitely felt the strongest, where it got chance to be its own thing. The ending felt a bit rushed and busy.

Still an enjoyable read, just not quite as good as it perhaps could have been.

First the bad: this needs proofreading, so many typos and misused words.
Second, this is a really dark sequel that matches the tone of the ending of the first book and goes off the rails. I liked the injection of fantasy into the plot and how it sheds some light on things we've been wanting to see since the first book.
