There are certain unwritten rules in high school. High on the list, close to the top, is one that says. ‘Thou shalt not have sex with your best friend’s girl’. - A simple rule, understood by all. - Danny Carrs totally ignored it. Another rule even higher on the list ‘Thou shalt not beat the crap out of the star quarterback two days before the play-off game.’ I sort of ignored that one. I figured it made us even. Needless to say, the jerks at school didn’t see it my way. Scott James ruined his future when he punched his best friend Danny, Losing any chance at the college scholarship he desperately wanted. Ostracized by his fellow students. Only outsider Katie Rivers braves social suicide to interact with him. Katie Rivers, Prefers being on the outside of things. It's safer out there. Because of a shameful past, she desperately needs to remain invisible. Having spent years perfecting the art of blending into the background she throws it all away to warn Scott that he will be attacked. These two must overcomes their pasts to find how to trust each other.
This book started out so good, but then it lost me.
My opinion and the way I viewed the story and the writing. This may work for you. I am not telling you not to read it.
The switch in POVs happened too quickly. There was a switch every 2 or 3 pages. Sometimes less than that. Plus, the hero's voice sounded like the heroine's voice. I had to go back a few times and check whose voice I was reading. It would have been better to start the story with the hero's POV and then write the rest of the story in the heroine's. At 52%, it lost its steam and I found myself skimming. The ending was too fast. Not realistic. Maybe the author should have cut some of the paragraphs in the middle of the book and added more to the ending.
I can't say I really liked any of the characters in this. They all annoyed me at one point or another.
This wasn't an awful read, but I didn't really enjoy it. I just couldn't get interested in it, and as the story progressed, my boredom got worse unfortunately.
I was lucky enough to received a free copy of this book and I'm gladly writing this review for the pure pleasure to let people know I really liked it.
At first I thought it would be a cute little teenage love story just like I like them: with a few high school and friends issues but God was I wrong. The issues in this story escalated quickly and suddenly there was more drama than a reality show episode.
I wasn't really expecting this but it wasn't bad.
I loved how Scott and Katie built their friendship little by little and how they went with their relationship once they realized they liked each other.
The one disconserting thing was how many coincidences there were in their lives with the relationships of their families and friends but I guess since they live in a small town it's bound to happen.
If you want to read a story full of twists that can make you smile and cry and believe the story and root for the characters and their happiness, this is it.
Also because there are certain rules not just in high school but in life that we ought to remember all the time and this book mentions some I think we can't leave behind.
Serious spelling and grammar errors. Can't even spell the main character's name. When not called Katie, it's Katharine throughout the book except for once it's Kathrine and the epilogue where it's Katherine.
This is a nice romance story. The characters have nice bases, but are not very well emotionnaly defined. Katty is lacking emotionnal depth for a abuse victim. I would have given 5 stars to this book if not for this flaw.
I received this audiobook free of charge in return for an honest review
This was a cute enough story. I enjoyed listening to this when I didn't particularly need to listen as it was an easy read and in my opinion a bit of a slow burner.
I can't really say I got too involved with the characters but they weren't dislikeable... just a title 2D. The story went at more or less an even pace with some cute ongoings.
The narrator was good. It sounded to me that she was fairly new to narration and mispronounced a few words (might be the UK v US difference though!). I found it quite hard to differentiate between characters unless I paid close attention to the start of each chapter but I think that may have been more the writing that the issue of the narrator. She did really well and I can really see her progressing to really make a story stand out on audiobook.
it's going to sit right on my fence of reviews. I didn't dislike it but I won't be rushing to get the next book.
A YA High School romance. Great storyline- lots of teen drama. Interesting characters. Felt the ending was a little rushed though. Such drama needed to be developed more! It was over too quickly! Only one thing stopped me giving it 5 stars and that was the terrible grammar and the numerous spelling mistakes! Too many for my liking. The author needs to get a good proof reader or editor as it's the same story in other books too which really is a pity!
This book is the first time I've read this author's work. I'm so glad I did. G. L. Snodgrass should get five stars, but the proof readers really didn't do their jobs. Spell check can determine if a word is spelled correctly, but not if it the correct word! However, the book is a good read. The characters work well together and I couldn't wait to see what would happen as the story developed. This book is good read for older teens, as well as adults.
I enjoyed this book! Are there a lot of grammatical errors? Yes. Do they get in the way of the story sometimes? Yes. BUT the story is engaging and kept me interested all the way through. If you really enjoy romance novels, you won't get bored in the middle like some readers did. I've read a lot of "perfectly written" books that I couldn't finish because the story was so boring. This one wasn't perfect, but it was fun to read.
There were some things in this book that made it a little hard for me to read. Katie reminded me so much of myself that I was able to relate to her character immediately. Scott was a sweet boy, but his character was still realistic. I really liked this book a lot. It wasn't too much as far as putting school age kids in too many adult situations. It was just enough.
I actually enjoyed this far more than I thought I would. I loved both characters and I loved the story line. I really hope there is more to this story. I want a story for Mattie and Kevin and I'd read one about Danny too. I just wanted more to all the characters.
Not your normal teen angst story. Thoroughly a entertaining story. Some dark topics, but there is light mixed in. Loved the development of the relationship. And you get a great happy ending.
One of the greatest books I've read. It's such a perfect mixture of teenage angst and drama, true love, and even a bit of action. I read it on a whim and couldn't be happier.
Love this book it’s such an easy read with a sweet story! Wish we could get a sequel to their story and not just the little bit that shows up in the 4th book.
A cute, quick read if you like sweet teen romances. Which, I do. A big football player, a quiet invisible girl, social suicide, drama, dark pasts, love eternal.
I really liked this book. Thought the storyline was great and heartwarming.
However, the spelling and grammar is poor at times and put me off a little. This being the only reason I cannot allow myself to give a full 5 star rating.
This a sweet story.its about taking a chance and moving on. These books are clean some kissing but no sex. I am not gonna lie but I missed the sex but I still totally enjoyed the book. The characters are great and it is a straightforward love story
