An aging assassin. A murderous mob enforcer. A psychopathic stalker. And a beautiful piano player, on the run from a tragic personal history. Over three days, the fates of all four will intersect in Las Vegas, where a battle of cat-and-mouse will culminate in an outbreak of deadly violence that will take your breath away. From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Allan Leverone comes THE ORGANIZATION, the first in a series of books written in homage to the old-time paperback pulp novels from decades Sometimes, whether through money, status or influence, the most vile and evil members of society are able to evade all traditional forms of justice. When that happens, these killers, rapists, and sociopaths - men and occasionally women with no regard for even the most basic rules of civilized society - face a much more deadly The Organization, a secret band of assassins working to protect the very society that shuns them, by eliminating the most dangerous predators. Fast-moving and deadly, THE ORGANIZATION will take you back to the days of pulp fiction, where violence lurked around every corner and nothing was quite as it seemed... ********** Praise for Allan "Allan Leverone's PARALLAX VIEW is a sure-footed, masterful thriller with a breakneck pace that never lets up...I loved this book!" -- J. Another Winner by Allan Leverone! This novel, the first in the Jack Sheridan Pulp Thrillers series, gripped me from the first page right until the very end. And then I wanted more! There are four main compelling characters in this story; an assassin past his prime, a vicious mob enforcer, a deranged stalker, and a beautiful, young piano player on the run. Over three days, the fates of all four characters will cross where a battle of cat and mouse will wind up in a surge of deadly violence that will take your breath away. Jack Sheridan (added to my list of favorite characters) is a force to be reckoned with and I can hardly wait for his return in the next book. Fast paced and deadly "The Organization" brings back the days of pulp fiction, where violence lurked around every corner and nothing was quite as it seemed.
Short read, less than 200 pages. Typical pulp thriller. Defined bad guys made very bad via the author's description. Assassin who is actually a guy with a moral stance towards others. Nice conclusion to the assigned killings.
On the negative side, Leverone could have used a competent editor. The continuity in some scenes was really bad. Ruger SR 22 becoming a Walther 22 (the Walther would come later). A Pontiac LeMans turning into a Monte Carlo, back to a Pontiac and the back to a Monte Carlo. Silly of an author to allow this.
Part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. There is a 'hook' at the end to give an idea what's on tap for Sheridan in the next adventure.
"The Organization" is a solid thriller, cleverly weaving seemingly separate narratives into one grand finale. Jack Sheridan, a former Black Ops soldier, now works for an off-the-book organization as a hired assassin, but his targets are the guys that need to be taken out. Diving into the heart of Las Vegas' mafia, as well as encountering a struggling woman fleeing a psychotic stalker, Sheridan has to break the rules of his organization in order to save this girl while carrying out his assignment.
Leverone does a great job with characterization, bringing the different backgrounds of these individuals into the forefront of the story. I would have liked to see more from this mysterious Organization, though the ending sets up great potential for a sequel.
The author comments that this novel is a tribute to the pulp fiction novels he read in his youth, but this is no fan fiction -- it's a solid entry into a genre that needs to be revived. Looking forward to the sequel.
I received this book free from the author and this does not affect my review. Jack Sheridan is an ex military Black OPs man once he gets out of the military, he is approached by The Orginazation to work for them. It is the same type of work getting rid of the bad guys he is told to. He has been doing it for years now, and is trying to decide if he is getting to old. He takes a job in Vegas. The book keeps you turning the page for more.
This is a well put together book with a good story line , with body and characters to back it up. This type of book has to have an assassin with a heart to pull this off. Jack has some problems he has to workout before he can have a relationship in his field of work. He has a ways to go, even when he gets the cart in front of the horse at the end. Read and enjoy.
The Organization is my favorite book of Mr. Leverone, and Jack Sheridan has to be one of my all time favorite characters. He served in the military in a secret Black Ops, taking out the baddest of bad guys, world wide. Now, after not finding a niche in the civilian world he had been offered a similar job but as a civilian taking out the baddest of killers, drug dealers, and so on. He does this (which may seem like an oxymoron at first glance) with a clean conscience and integrity. He is getting older and wonders if this job is not suited for the younger guys. The other characters in the book are well written, three demential people. There is cursing, but it is character appropriate and not overdone. I do not like cursing, so the amount of it in a book can ruin it wonderful story if done just for the sake of shock value. There is absolutely none of that in this page turning, I want to know what happens, but I do not want the book to end, in this book. There is a bit of an intriguing love beginning to happen and a twist at the end at the that made my heart stop. I am hoping beyond HOPE that Mr. Leverone continues this series. It would be a sadness to let this character fade into the sunset.
Once again, Allan Leverone pulled me in with the first few chapters of this book, and never let up until the end. Jack Sheridan is a wonderful character about whom I can't wait to read more adventures. All of the characters in this story were easy to picture and the fast pace made it impossible to put down. Maybe his profession as a hit man isn't exactly legal, but I sure would want him in my corner in a time of need. More Jack Sheridan, please!
It will come as no surprise to readers of the Tracie Tanner and Final Vector, that this is an excellent book! Looking forward to the next one in this series, which Mr. Leverone has promised. I also would love to see a sequel to Final Vector!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, I couldn't put it down. The author clearly established each character. Although, I had a hunch Jack may become hunted in the future. I'm glad he has a moral side as well. Can't wait for the sequel!
