Rate this book

The Richest Man Who Ever Lived is a powerful book relating how to achieve a meaningful life based on King Solomon’s wisdom. The author reveals King Solomon’s proverbs and breaks through the meaning behind those proverbs with different examples including those from his life’s experiences.

It is written in a very relatable way, and easy to grasp the meanings of the proverbs.

There are many wonderful examples in this book and a couple of them stood out to me; one with putting the pedal to the metal. “Why pursue your dreams at 5 mph when you can go 65?”

As the author explains, most people go through life without effectively applying this accelerator in the pursuit of their dreams. But the accelerator he’s referring to is the Solomon’s accelerator in the form of a partner – meaning anyone who can provide needed insight, advice, wisdom, or any practical help for the effective achievement of a specific project, goal, or dream.

He further explains what are the benefits of having partners vs going alone. In every journey, there are some falls and losses which can be handled much better when you have partners. But you also have to be smart about who you partner with. Thus, it gives advice how to avoid the wrong partners. There are certain patterns that will help you recognize it.

Another one is about happiness. What does happiness mean to you? The author goes into explaining what it truly means and what keeps us from being truly happy. The key is being grateful, finding things to be grateful for every day, eliminate envy and sense of entitlement, live wisely, surround yourself with wise people. “Wisdom is not simply knowledge. Wisdom involves action. Simply stated, wisdom is the effective application of truth to your daily behavior.” If we don’t have knowledge to serve others with our words, then, it’s better not to say anything. Less is more.

A “Santíssima” Trindade

The Holly Trinity

Success, Wealth and Happiness is the Holly Trinity of zillions of humans. Their dreams and hopes revolve around it like earth revolves around the sun!

Steven Scott is a self-made multimillionaire, which is the best reference we can get to be receptive about what he aims to tell us on that subject.

Even if you’re skeptical or simply not in the mood, this is a book that worths to be red, due to all the contagious positive energy that irradiates from it 😉🌟🌟🌟🌟👍

I loved this book! It included personal testimonies from so many people who have reached success and those who have lost it. The author's voice really speaks in this book - advising, critiquing, and encouraging your path! He backs everything he says with scripture. He talks about the spiritual to-do’s for success but also the practical aspects of reaching your goals. It was an easy read filled with wisdom and knowledge. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to go higher in their career or to find success in their every day lives! There is some repetition, which I thought was fine. I think the author wrote it so that you can skip chapters if you want or find a chapter that speaks to you. A must read!

-This is more of a summary to myself-

Although it is repetitive, there are many gold nuggets within the book. He presents the "laws of living" interpreted from Solomon's Book of Proverbs. If you're ignorant of these laws, your life will not work, you will fail. Even if you choose to ignore them, they will still exist and run our lives. -Search for wisdom and knowledge like you would for gold and silver-

"Diligence is a skill, it's creative persistence, smark-working effort rightly planned and rightly performed in a timely manner" -- work smart and efficiently.

"The hand of the diligent will rule, but the slack hand will be put to forced labor" --- **

The diligent are sought after by people in power, people will come to you.

"In all labor there is profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty" --- ***

Work on gaining true diligence, it's contrary to human nature. We often seek instant gratification, but we need to stop taking the path of least resistance.

DON't rush or be hasty, be prepared always.
Laziness Results in more laziness.
"It's easier to act out of ignorance than educating ourselves" - always dig deeper

#1 stop procrastinating, take responsibility for your life
#2 have a vision, "where there is no vision, the people perish", an ant is so mission-oriented that
without direction or supervision, it does exactly what it needs to for its benefit and benefit of the colony.
- "Vission Mapping Process"
- having a perfectly clear picture of your destination and a roadmap to get there provides
motivation and direction
- be fueled by "hope" that your vision will come to life in a timely manner
- without vision, life just becomes about getting by, it has no real meaning
- HOPE IN MARRIAGE - the four greatest needs of a woman are emotion and physical security,
regular and meaningful communication, nonsexual touch, and romance. For men, it's respect
and admiration, love and desire, sex without it feeling forced. Couples often defer the hope in
their partners by not tending to their needs. Focus on helping others fulfill their dreams and
desires.

EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION

EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION
- it is equally as bad to not say anything at all as it is to say something bad.
- most women speak 25-50k words per day, men 12-25k. This dynamic can cause
miscommunication
- the way you speak has an important impact on others - it can wound or heal
- KEYS 1. communicate in an easily digestible manner, making others want to listen.
2. learn the art of persuasion 3. listen before speaking, don't interrupt 4. be slow to speak and
guard your words 5. don't speak too much 6. never speak negatively of others 7. speak truthfully
8. share wisdom "The lips of the righteous feed many"
#3 EFFECTIVELY PARTNER, seek counsel before you make any big decisions
imagine a car without an accelerator, it wouldn't move forward no matter how impressive the car
itself was. That's what seeking counsel/effective partnering does to your life. It allows you to
reach success.

seek counseling before any problems occur - in marriage
partnering reduces the risk, the partnership gives the potential to success

avoid partnering with people that lack integrity, are quick-tempered "anger is the single most destructive force in a relationship", offers a lot for a little, doesn't seek wisdom, excessively flatter you, gossips or exaggerates, has a disregard for rules, laws, personal boundaries

GRATEFULNESS
- "it's impossible to be grateful and unhappy at the same moment of time"
- "you can't stop a bird from landing on your head but you can stop it from building a nest on it"
- don't be envious, lose the entitlement - expectations of others
"Wisdom is not something you store in your head like facts, it involves action"

KINDNESS
- "Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck. Write them on the tablet
of your heart" - kindness is priceless and these should be the first two attributes a person notices
about us
- whenever you're kind to someone, it raises their level of loyalty and commitment to you
- our first instinct is to be self-consumed with our needs, but kindness is a mental and emotional
muscle that needs to be exercised

be generous with your time, kind words, thoughtfulness, deeds, emotional support, etc
lack of generosity will lead to poverty of the soul, emotional bankruptcy, generosity is never
passive

Choose to be gracious, choose to be patient when you're feeling impatient. Choose to be kind when you are angry and fell like giving someone what they "deserve"

CONFLICT/ ADVERSITY
- like gold and silver, you must go through fire if you want to be great, in order to refine our
character and build our strength
- most of the conflict we face is a direct consequence of our actions
- conflict is the gateway to the deepest levels of communication and intimacy in a marriage/
relationship. You can do more harm than good if you avoid confrontation at all costs.
- conflict should be looked at through the lens of wanting to achieve the best possible outcome, not
about who's right or wrong
- don't be PRIDEFUL - it's the cause of many of the issues in our life
- seek counsel before engaging in a conflict
- don't come down to the level of the attackers or you will be like them if they won't stop or listen
to walk away
- never prolong an argument
- be quick to forgive, "the greater the hurt, the better the opportunity for forgiveness"
- attack conflict head-on, don't bury it thinking it will go away
#4 SEEK WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING, they are the foundation for a good life

LOVING CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM
- "He that refuses instruction hates himself, but he who listens to reproof acquires understanding"
- it's better than love, "complacency will destroy you"
- learn to respond rather than react 1. is the person qualified to give you this critique? 2. is it accurate? 3. review it and change behavior if necessary

- criticism is like getting an unexpected bucket of water thrown on your face, it might shock you but it's not dangerous, the words are only water, sand, and some gold. To get the sand out of your eyes, write down the criticism down, blocking any body language, tone, etc.

HOW TO CRITICIZE? - when not angry, done in order to produce a positive outcome, "sandwich
method"

CONTROL YOUR EMOTIONS, TEMPER (Keep your anger cup dry)
- it will allow you to provide a solution when other's are blindsided by their anger
- the root cause is unfulfilled expectations, a sense of entitlement that others should be doing c
certain things
- allow yourself time to grieve to let the emotion out
- "A pearl is created by the irritation of a grain of sand"
-- truly forgive
- do not seek revenge or enjoy the fall of those who have hurt you
" Whoever digs a pit there shall fall therein. and he who rolls a stone shall return to him"

"THE NAIVE BELIEVE everything, BUT THE WISE MAN LOOKS WELL INTO THE MATTER"
' we naively act on impulse believe we will have tomorrow to correct the mistakes we make today"

people always put their best foot forward, be skeptical.. don't be lazy, do your research, seek counsel, don't act in a state of haste, don't ignore the red flags

FOCUS ON ACHIEVEMENT RATHER THAN MONEY, DON'T BE GREEDY
trying to get rich is the quickest way to go broke
generosity is the cure for greed

"A man's pride will bring him low", Soloman's pride led to his downfall
"WHEN HUMILITY IS ABSENT, PRIDE IS USUALLY IN CONTROL"
have a periodic pride checkup

if you don't understand your own behavior you will repeat it again and again

Remain a learner your entire life.

I have read the book of Proverbs many times, but Scott;s book has been the most valuable book to describe the advise given in Proverbs. I plan to use this book for discussions and talks in church. I also plan on following his recommendation to read a chapter of Proverbs each day during each month that goes by. Highly recommend.

I was praying for a mentor in my life in 2008, when this book attracted me! I got two mentors Solomon & Steven K Scott. Solomon's debt to take you to spiritual laws & strategies of living, helped me to brake through a dark area in my life. Steven k Scott became an example of those laws & strategies that mentored me to follow after spiritual choices that will change your life! ONE OF THE GREATEST BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ!!!!

With such a great topic as a premise, I really thought I'd LOVE this book. I certainly tried hard to love it.

But it really fell short for me. I struggled with with the authors interpretation of some of the scriptures. He doesn't even go into any in-depth look at the origins and meanings of the various proverbs. He does not include ANY history or research on the book of Proverbs. The author simply assumes that we will accept his interpretation without any explanation whatsover.

I could get over that if the book had been interesting - but in fact it was filled with the most basic of common sense "secrets". The author talks over and over again about how he made and lost millions and made them again. And while I appreciate his honesty in divulging his mistakes, by the end of the book I found myself getting annoyed at hearing about all of jobs and losses.

I often think that a book is redeemed if I can garner one really great idea or lesson from it. Sadly, from this book, there is nothing really earth shattering taught - no ideas that I could really say were great or unique.

Just two stars from me.....

Some people may find this book valuable. (I was hoping to). Although the idea is good, I questioned the author's interpretation of the wisdom contained in Proverbs, which is the basic reference for the entire book. The advice also seemed somewhat simplistic and I questioned how following the checklists in the book could produce such incredible results. (OK, maybe I'm just skeptical). I may have finished the book if I had been in a place in my life that I wanted to put the advice to the test, but I guess I have other issues and priorities right now. Maybe I'll pick it up again later.

I love this book! There are life lessons throughout, food for thought, and words written in a way that causes reader places a mirror to his or her own soul. This book challenges me to think things through more thoroughly and to react to certain situations in a different way than I normally would. Though I know every situation-even painful ones-help mould us into the person we are meant to be, this work shed a new ray of light on the many why's that we often ask. Biblically based, it stands tall above any me-ism book and is a breath of fresh air in a world that is bombarded by me-ism and new age theology.
Page 130 of the book perfectly nailed a subject I had tried-ineffectively-to explain to a loved one time and again. Now, she gets it! Hooray! This is one book I will read again and again!

3.5 stars. A really great message in this book. Just didn’t love the execution. Mainly because it felt like a highly detailed outline instead of a book centering around lesson teaching stories. There were lots of great stories, but the stories felt more like the fluff and not enough of the core content. And I was hoping for more on the life of Solomon.

Still, that’s all the bad I’ll say about this book. All in all, it was a truly inspiring book that does a good job explaining to the reader that simply by following Solomon’s wisdom from the book of Proverbs will inevitably lead to a truly fulfilling life. He also delves into best practices taken from Proverbs on how to be successful in what you do professionally. It was a wonderful reminder to me about the wisdom in Scripture. And that my career, personal life, or anything else is not separate from the truths and wisdom that the Bible has to offer. Which of course makes sense. The God of the Bible is the God of this world and everything in it!

My primary takeaways:
-Read and internalize Proverbs more. Every day even.
-Be thoughtful and precise on defining and laying out your plans to achieve big things. You can’t accomplish much by letting the winds carry you. You have to plan and take action.

At first read, the wisdom explained in this book seems like SUCH common sense, like of COURSE I live this way…. But when I really take a look at my life, I realize I do the opposite (foolish) thing way too many times. It’s easy to think that if you understand and agree with advice, that must mean you’re following it. But so often there’s a disconnect. Because even if the advice seems simple, it’s not simple to make it a habit to live by it. So it was extremely valuable/essential to be reminded of this wisdom (which comes straight from God and therefore verified EFFECTIVE) and let go of my pride that thinks I have it all down (because I don’t and never will!!!) and take the time to see how I can better apply it in my life.

This book does a good job of summarizing the major themes of Proverbs and ways to apply them in everyday life. I appreciated that it also explains the balance/tension between material riches/success and spiritual riches/fullness, giving credit to both while prioritizing them in the right way. Not five stars just because it repeats itself a lot and probably could have been shorter.

At the end of this, I see the value of absorbing the book of Proverbs every single day. Following God’s design for life (which is laid out so distinctly in Proverbs) is the only way to truly experience real, meaningful, rewarding life.

Goes through a bunch of verses of Proverbs and pulls business/finance/leadership advice from them. Overall solid book. The premise was the guy read a chapter of proverbs every day of the month and pulled out these ideas from them. I think my plan is to start reading a chapter of proverbs every day.

Subtitled “King Solomon’s Secrets to Success, Wealth, and Happiness,” at first blush this book would appear to offer the key to financial security. Advice is given on how to maximize your efforts to be successful in your business and career, to be sure, but this little book provides much more than this.

Tapping into the wealth of wisdom from the Proverbs of Solomon as well as examples from his own life and those of others, Scott provides practical insights and applications for winning, turning dreams into reality, communication, partnerships, dealing with conflict and disarming the “booby traps” to success, among other topics. The four keys that make you invaluable (and ultimately successful), per the author, are Impeccable Honesty, Kindness, Generosity and Graciousness. All of these themes are supported by practical insights from Solomon himself.

Each short chapter ends with what Scott calls Knowledge to Wisdom - including questions and activities to apply the knowledge imparted from the Proverbs he quotes to your work and life. His working definition of making this leap embodies three steps:
Step One is Knowledge - the acquiring of information.
Step Two is Understanding - discerning and valuing important and practical truths
Step Three is Wisdom - the act of applying valued truths to any given situation and to life in general.

Scott closes by offering what he calls Solomon’s Three Keys for Acquiring Wisdom:
1. Search for wisdom as you would search for hidden treasure.
2. Listen.
3. Study the book of Proverbs.

Regardless of your religious affiliation, there is much Wisdom to be gleaned from this book.

Steven K. Scott breaks down Solomon's Book of Wisdom in a fashion that most people should be able to relate to in modern-day life. Since many people would be more apt to pick up a small book to read than tackling reading the whole Bible, this is a good way to learn from the person who was allegedly the wisest man ever known (that being the case, he should have heeded his own advice as he got on in years). Scott makes this book very relatable by pointing out numerous times in his personal life and business life where he made the mistake of not following these Biblical admonitions. Reading through them myself, I was reminded of particular times in my life where I should have followed these as well. It certainly makes life easier to live on the straight and narrow path. But, now that I've had the refresher course on Solomon's words, I will keep his advice in mind, especially when it comes to making financial decisions. This book is worth a read, or, you can go straight to the source and read the Book of Wisdom from the Bible. (But, you'll need to pick up a Catholic Bible, as The Book of Wisdom is not included in standard Protestant Bibles.)

Essentially a list of already known characteristics of successful people well matched to a series of verses in Proverbs. With that purpose in mind, there's plenty of content on avoiding sloth, envy, pride and listening to fools, not all of which directly correlates to success or lack thereof and of course is framed in the Good v. Evil Christian-Judea mindset. Get used to seeing 'In Proverbs xx:xx Solomon tells us...," the equivalence of a sermon in print.

All seemed full of wisdom that happened to be biblical as well, until the author claims God as "The Ultimate Mentor." Unless you're both in business AND a devout Christian, it's not for you.

Should be retitled "How to be Successful....if you believe in Jesus Christ, that is."

The title of this book is very off putting to me. Also, the author writes commercials for a living and so the writing has that kind of "you too can be wealthy and happy!" feel to it. Someone gave me this book so I decided to go ahead and read it out of obligation. When I got past those aspects of the book I was able to glean some great tools for goal-setting and organization in that direction. The whole book is solidly based on the wisdom of the proverbs, and the main emphasis is not physical riches...necessarily. There is definately value here.

I wasn’t planning to read this book just from looking at the title. I thought “this is a how-to-get-rich” book but it’s totally not.

The wisdom this book offers is very practical. At the end of each chapter it has the knowledge to wisdom guide which give the reader very practical actions item and checklist to make changes to get wisdom.

We know a lot of knowledge but not until our actions are changed to reflect the knowledge, it’s just in our head.

The chapter in receiving criticism, pride and greed help me to look at a clear reality of how I make decision.

If you only have time to read one chapter, I would recommend to read counselors. It’s one of the keys, if not the most important one, to get wisdom and avoid mistakes or foolishness.

I don't typically read Christian Spiritual Books, but my dad told me it would be a good read. That being said, it wasn't actually that bad.

The Solomon Code
Chapter 1- Dilligence/Marshmellow test - Be realistic/define your vision, seek counsel and practice wisdom.

Chapter 3- Have a clear vision. Utilize vision mapping.

Chapter 4 - The power of hope - defined as a "well founded and confident belief that a specific vision(goal, desire, promise) will be achieved or fulfilled within a specified amount of time.

Chapter 5 - The importance of communication.

Chapter 6 - Achieving success with a mentor/counsel.

Be aware on the importance of keeping envy/jealousy and other bad vices in check.

The Major Action Provoker

There are many books that we read to become more intelligent, but it is to e we read some books that make us more intelligent and to have more integrity. This are both important in building trusting relationships. A random man in A book store I worked at told me randomly to read a book of proverbs everyday for the rest of my life. Another time, a man told me to read this book and that it was the book that made him rich and that he wouldn't read anything else after. Stop looking at the reviews, this is the book you are looking for. Read it!
