Imprisoned for years in a government research facility, four vampires unexpectedly find themselves on the run, with the scientist who unintentionally saved them.
After close to a century in a laboratory run by the secret government Department 13, where he and three of his fellow Drakonians are mercilessly experimented on, Havoc resigns himself to his fate. Excited to be working on a top secret genetics project, Dr. Harmony Holmes arrives for her first day on the job full of hope that she will be able to further her career prospects, and also build a relationship with her estranged father. Driven by despair, she opens one of the cages and sets off a string of events that change her life and the lives of everyone around her forever. Now she's on the run, fighting for her life, while at the same time trying to resist her uncontrollable need for the vampire with the golden eyes, who hates her…

3.5 rounded up. This honestly easily could be a 5 star for others I just personally couldn’t stand Havoc and Harmony’s relationship. He treats her like utter crap for over half of a very long book , and she takes it like a kicked puppy over and over. Seriously I think I may hate havoc lol Im really looking forward to the next books because the world building was so good, love the idea of a heart that only beats for your soulmate and so many of the other characters are amazing . Really looking forward to seeing more of Chaos s story. And hopefully the next books will see havoc and harmony’s relationship more settled so I can enjoy that more as well.
Havoc is Book One of the Drakonians, a dark contemporary vampire romance.
Set in California, the book opens in a secret laboratory location, where four vampires have been imprisoned and experimented on for years. Into this setting young geneticist Harmony is brought to study the second heart that these vampires have. Shocked to discover the existence of vampires and the brutality metered out to them in the laboratory, Harmony enables the subjects of the experiments to escape, ensuing an immediate manhunt as the five of them go on the run.
Over the remaining 900 plus pages—yes, it is a whopper of a book—Havoc and Harmony play out an enemies to lovers romance with plenty of will-they, won’t-they batted back and forth. Meanwhile, the hunters squabble among themselves as to who they can blame for the vampires’ escape and who will take the prize for their recapture.
The dark romantic element of the story involves a high number of sexual encounters, some with violence and bordering, on occasion, on erotica.
While I liked the premise of this story, I thought that it fell short in several areas, particularly character development, with much of Harmony and Havoc’s to-ing and fro-ing within their on-off relationship. I was also concerned by the amount of modern-day American mannerisms given to the long-lived vampires who had been held captive for decades, if not longer.
In other areas, I could tell that the authors definitely had fun writing this book; however, I felt that the mish-mash of action heroes and femme fatales, with many of them given comedic character names, was a little too much and more suited to a satirical piece of writing than a romance.
Havoc is a paranormal romance that introduces readers to the Drakonians, a species that has lived along side most of humanity in secret for millennia. Now in the present day four of it’s remaining members survive even as the horrors committed against them in a secret underground research facility, subject them to the tortures of genetic experimentation, all in the name of science. Humanity’s name for them is vampire for their blood drinking affinity, but they are not. Coveted by the military, and the sciences for their superior abilities they are. Into this cavern of sorrow arrives MFC Dr. Harmony Holmes who believes she has just been hired for her chance of a lifetime dream job putting her two PHDs in Hybridization and Optogenetics to good use at last, and it sure helped that her father General Holmes was in charge of the project. Harmony is in for a rude awakening her first day when she learns exactly what is going on and sees the Drakonians for the first time. When she is forced to inject the Drakonian leader MMC Havoc with a dye solution, the minute she enters his cell he is overcome by her scent, awakening his second heart which has lain dormant and can only be brought to life by the presence his soulmate. He believes whatever Harmony injects him with caused the change and plans on fighting the forming bond instead of nurturing it, because Drakonians do not mate with humans!
The die has been cast.
This is a long story that is very rich in depth, descriptive world building, and character development. While it does follow the usual tropes for the romance genre the author has infused this remarkable romantic adventure with side entrées that never fail to keep the action flowing at a ferociously intense pace. When Harmony seeks out her father to let him know that she can’t be a party to what is being done to the Drakonians she also learns some unpleasant truths about him too. Evil runs rampant in this research lab whose director Dr. Van Klomp and security head Captain Cornelius Mangle aka Mangler embody every definition of the word evil and when their actions lead Harmony into accidentally releasing the Drakonians they escape with her in tow. I love BIG stories that don’t drag on, that are so engaging the time within the pages passes way too quickly, and before you know it the ending has arrived. Once Havoc and his brothers Chaos, Silence, and River are on the run with Harmony the tension ratchets up, along with surprises, intrigue, danger, suspense, personal vulnerabilities, revelations, violence, passion, and emotion. Is she really Havoc’s soulmate? There is no denying the emotional pull she feels towards him, one that she doesn’t understand as it fires her blood with intensity, always in his presence and despite his constant antagonistic rejection of her. Put aside some reading time because you won’t be able to set this amazing story aside once you have been captured by its compelling writing, engaging storyline, and well crafted characters. Needless to say I am eagerly looking forward to the next book. HFN.

HAVOC is quite suspenseful and a page turning paranormal vampire romance. The story is captivating from start to finish, entertaining and an enjoyable read. This novel is fabulously written, well balanced and beautifully executed by T.L. Hawke. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and was blown away by the storyline. HAVOC has a fantastic plot, wonderful characters and a breathtaking ending for the main characters. The characters are well developed and beautifully executed throughout the story. HAVOC follows the story of Harmony and Havoc. The chemistry between these two characters is absolutely breathtaking and undeniably irresistible. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know both Harmony and Havoc as well as witnessing the feelings they have for one another grow stronger as their story progresses forward. I’m looking forward to reading more fantastic stories from this series in the future. I would absolutely recommend this book for anyone to checkout and give it a read.

Refreshingly new! Do not let the number of pages prevent you from reading. Once you finish, you will want more! This author effectively illustrates this story through engaging verbiage creating it to appear in full color before your very eyes. Character development is unique and in-depth allowing the reader to development relationships with all the dynamic personalities that bind a captivating spell within. This novel has it all – intrigue, suspense, romance, action and adventure and plenty of high-level drama. Masterful story-telling combined with a refreshing take on other worldly beings! If there are movie producers out there, grasp onto this author quickly! This engaging tale with promise of future volumes could easily become the next chart topping success following the likes of J.R.R Tolkien and J.K. Rowling. Longingly awaiting the next edition!
An enemies to lovers, soulmates, grumpy/sunshine story that introduces a new group of vampires who are being held captive and tortured by the world’s governments. A brilliant geneticist brought in due to family connections is horrified by what she finds and knocks down the domino that sets the chain in action. Havoc and Harmony are a good match; fairly standard vampire lore but well written with some interesting elements.

This book had so many levels, and yet they all worked together brilliantly. Harmony and Havoc (love the contrast in names!) made me feel the feels with them.
I don’t usually read paranormal romances but this just hooked me from the beginning. 😍
Y’all, I had to take a few days after reading Havoc before writing this review! I’m still blown away that this is a debut for T.L. Hawake. It was so good, and sucked me in instantly. Don’t let the 900+ page length intimidate you. You’ll be so engrossed in the story you won’t even realize you are reading something so long.
The book is set in California in a top secret government run laboratory. Harmony the FMC is hired to work in this lab but is shocked to find that it isn’t animals or cadavers that are used for experments, but living people. Four Drakonian males (vampires) have been imprisoned for decades enduring all manners of abuse and torture in the name of “science”.
When Harmony witnesse the cruelty she fights back, but in doing so become the target of brutal abuse herself. With no way out she frees the four Drakonians. Havoc the leader of the Drakonians is inexplicably drawn to Harmony. He hates their connection, but knows without her they would never get free. Once she releases him, he fees the other males and takes Harmony with them.
By teaming up they escape, but are hunted by very powerful people that will stop at nothing to silence all five of them.
The main characters and love interests are Harmony and Havoc. It is a relationship that is full of tension and heat. Both want the other, but both have reasons to hold back or even hate the other. The other Drakonians are secondary characters, but you still feel like you get to know and love each of them. I’m already so attached to each of the characters that I can’t stand waiting for book 2!
I won’t say any more so I don’t spoil anything, but trust me when I say, you want to read this book! There is suspense, romance, twists and turns, and so much emotion packed into it. There really is something for every reader.
Havoc's dialogue flows naturally, and pulls you into a story impossible to put down. The male and female main characters are flawed yet deeply relatable. The characters are so well developed that it feels like you know all of them, not just the main characters, but even the minor ones.
The scenes are vivid making you feel like you’re stepping right into the story, experiencing every moment alongside the characters.
Themes of loyalty and duty are threaded throughout this slow-burning paranormal romance. As the story unfolds, these themes draw you into a world where every decision is critical and every relationship is tested. The blend of passion and purpose drives the narrative.
The story lingers, making it almost impossible to say goodbye to Havoc and Harmony. I personally look forward to seeing more of them, and the three minor characters that elevated this book to one of the most enjoyable vampire novels I’ve read in years.
Havoc is an unforgettable story that will keep you hooked from start to finish. It’s a must-read for anyone who loves well-crafted vampire stories.
Havoc by TL Hawke is pure adrenaline from start to finish. I flew through this 900+ page beast in four days because the action never lets up—government facilities, breakouts, Black Ops-level chase scenes, and vampires with a dual-heart system that adds a fresh twist to fated mates. Havoc and his Drakonian brothers are fierce, loyal, and unforgettable, and every character gets a meaningful arc that kept me invested the whole way. The cultural settings woven into the action—Chinatown, Japan, Korea—give the world real texture, and the fight scenes feel like watching a supernatural action movie. Harmonys connection with Havoc grows slowly but intensely, grounding the chaos with emotion. If you love vampire lore, military-style thrillers, and dark paranormal romance with nonstop movement, Havoc delivers on every page.
Havoc by TL Hawke was a great paranormal, vampire read. I was initially apprehensive about the number of pages, but by the time I finished, I was left wanting more. I'm so relieved there will be more in the series. Havoc is not my usual genre; the last vampire story I read was the Twilight series, but I was completely engrossed from start to finish! The story is full of mystery (I still have many questions!), action, violence, love and lust, as well as friendship, honour, and values. The world that TL Hawke built was well-crafted and very much a page-turning book. There are a lot of viewpoints across the chapters, so you definitely need to concentrate, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I'm glad I stepped out of my usual genre to give it a go.
I had trouble putting this book down. The levels to the story were done in such a way that I had to keep reading to find out what happens next. I can't wait for the next book to come out.
Havoc by T.L. Hawke had me by the throat from page one. There was no seduction phase, no warm-up, just instant obsession. Yes, it’s a big book… and I still finished wishing it was twice the size because I need answers. I was genuinely annoyed at real life for daring to interrupt me reading this book. Work? Sleep? Responsibilities? Rude.
The story follows geneticist Harmony Holmes as she begins a new job at a secret government facility only to discover her “test subjects” are actually four imprisoned men. Except they’re not men at all, but Drakonians, the beings behind vampire legends. When Harmony learns the horrors done to them, echoing real-world wartime atrocities committed in Japan, she refuses to become another monster in a lab coat. Instead, she does the unthinkable: she helps them escape.
And then there’s Havoc. Tall. Lethal. Sculpted like someone hand-chiseled him for sinful purposes. Golden eyes that could melt steel or freeze your soul. He despises Harmony, unable to separate her from the same people who made him and his fellow Drakonians endure decades of torture. But even hatred can’t stop the pull between them, and watching him rage against his own desire? Delicious.
The pace never lets up. Action, tension, humour, emotion, and spice… generous amounts of spice. T.L. Hawke balances brutality with heart, trauma with hope, and somehow still slips in moments that made me laugh out loud.
I’m fully hooked and already impatient for book two. There are villains still breathing, Drakonians who need saving, secrets buried in the dark, and so many mysteries left to unravel.
Hawke, if you’re reading this—please don’t make us wait long. I’m dying to know what happens next.
I didn’t expect this book to hit me the way it did. What started as a dark vampire story quickly turned into something much deeper — raw, emotional, and surprisingly human.
The idea of vampires being held captive by the military for over fifty years is haunting enough, but when the FMC accidentally becomes the reason they escape, everything spirals into chaos. I was completely hooked watching them fight for their freedom and struggle to trust again after everything they’ve endured.
I loved how the story blurs the line between human and monster. Some moments really got to me — the pain, the rage, and the fragile hope running through it all. The pacing was great, though I did wish for a few slower, more emotional beats to soak it all in.
That ending left me both heartbroken and excited. I can’t wait to see what happens next for these characters — they definitely deserve their freedom.
I loved this book! I loved that the "vampires" were actually drakonians with subtle but different rules than traditional vampires. The story of Havoc and Harmony was beautifully written, if frustrating - get together already!! I really loved the characters, the dynamic of the brotherhood of the drakonians, as well as the evolving friendship between Harmony and Ashti. I'm very excited to read the next book, there are so many possible directions the story can take, and can't wait to see what happens next! Definitely Recommend!!
