Joshua Browning stumbles across his father’s hidden police files. A murder house with such terror etched into the bricks that it’s hidden from the public.
Ian Woodhead is just past the age of forty. He lives in the north of England and is married to a wonderful woman. He has forgotten how many children he has. He had been writing for nearly twenty years but has only just gained the confidence to start showing his work. Ian finds it a little creepy writing about himself in the third person.
This is the story of a mask. The mask holds the spirit of an entity whose only wish is to turn friends against friends and disembowel them to get at their bones to make her furniture. Enter four friends who have gone to the house where the mask is hidden, as they have heard it's a murder house. Being horror movie fans, they thought it would be good fun to explore. Now something or someone is stalking them and picking them off one by one. Can they stay alive long enough in a house that is constantly changing around them, to find out what or who is after them?
This was amazing! There was something to make me jump at every corner. Ian has gone to some pretty dark places with this book, and I love it. The characters were solid and believable and the pace was utterly blistering. This is relatively new territory for Ian, or at least he hasn't written this type of book for a while, so please may we have more? I totally recommend this for fans of 80's schlock 'pick em off one by one' type horrors!
Ok, once I got the hang of "who is who".... This was a real fun ride!!!! Yes there is gore.... And LOT'S of it, but let's face it.... This IS horror. What does one expect a demonic possessed mask to do? Dutch rub everyone to death?? Anyway, I loved it and I am looking forward to my next book by this fun author!!!!
This is the latest release from Ian Woodhead, The Bone Architect, where we find a group of friends, Joshua, Clarice, Barbra and brothers Tommy and Bryan deciding to spend a night in a local house where several horrific murders had been committed several years earlier, big mistake. No sooner does the group enter the house when two strangers, Conner and Arnold make an appearance, and then the horror begins.
This story reads like Cluedo on acid, as in you don't know who the killer is right until virtually the last pages of the book, and throw into the mix two additional characters, Mavis and Nigel, along with a cat and mouse chase through a house that changes it's layout, imagine walking from one room back into the very same room you've just left and through the same door, and paintings that show the death of the next victim as it's happening in graphic detail, then you've got some idea how this book flows.
The story moves at a fast pace switching between characters and locations in quick succession so you do need to pay attention to what you're reading, but it does mean you have to concentrate that little bit more and absorb what's happening on the pages in front of you which isn't a bad thing. Could there be a sequel to this book? Well the way it ends yes, but the final decision would be down to Mr Woodhead himself.
The Bone Architect is the latest release by Ian Woodhead and it is certainly no disappointment! It's different from the other books I've read by this author, but it's nice to read something fresh and see him explore other ideas.
This is a truly gritty thriller with many twists and turns along the way. It's the type of book that you can't just put down and start another afterwards, it keeps you thinking about the events that have transpired.
The imagery in the book is fantastic, very artistic and it provides a clear image from the beginning of the book.
As good as the book is, the first copies do contain some errors. This is currently pending and will be updated over the next few days, so if you've already bought the book, I believe it should update on your kindle. If anything like this has put you off reading it, please give it a few days and then try it again with the update. It really is a fantastic story and I'd hate for you to miss out on it due to a few errors which can, and are currently being fixed.
The only thing I didn't really like about the book was the characters, they weren't particularly likeable people which for me, removed a lot of the worry. However, what this did enable me to do was to focus on all the little twists in the story, and they're good.
Hold on to your lunch boys and girls, this is another signature slice of graphic horror from the pen of Ian Woodhead.
When a group young people decide to visit a derelict house with a gruesome reputation -- it beats sitting on the sofa watching yet another slasher horror movie, so they think -- they find themselves starring in their own night of horror, as a demonic presence takes them apart one by one.
The house itself has a life of its own, an extension of the evil presence, shifting around to disorientate our hapless rats in the maze, as they fight for their survival. There's a killer possessed by the demon courtesy of an ancient mask, and this creature can get into the heads of its victims, shifting their perception of reality. Deciding what is real and what is a grim hallucination can make the difference between life and death.
Fast paced, the reader is kept on their toes as they are thrown into the same disorientating labyrinth of blood and gore the characters must face, but at least the reader can be sure they'll get out of this alive.
The editing is a little rough and ready in places, and there's a certain 'no frills' look to the print edition (that this review deals with) but the story is a real page-turner, yet another classic Woodhead, oozing an exuberant love of horror. Be afraid -- and don't go into the cellar... Oops, too late!
I was given a copy of this by the author in exchange for an honest opinion.
WOW! Ian Woodhead does it again! He managed to freak me out a little, and I don't freak easily. This book is not for the squeamish, nor the easily scared. If you are a true horror fan, you cannot afford to miss this! A must have!
Felt like I was in a combination of a funhouse, insane asylum & a haunted house! Totally kept me guessing & wanting more throughout entire book! Talk about an entertaining, intriguing mind bender!!!
