Kindle freebie today (May 4, 2015).

Arabella (Bella), who likes to wander off by herself unescorted, runs into a handsome earl who (just because she's unescorted, forget the well-bred accent and nice dress) assumes she's a lightskirt and kisses her face off. She likes the kissing and decides not to tell him she's a proper young lady, because of reasons. And of course, every time she runs into him thereafter--which happens with truly astonishing regularity, considering she doesn't give him her full name or address--her brother and chaperone and friends are never around, or if they are, nobody and nothing ever clues our earl in to the actual facts. Probably because he is blinded by his lust passion.

Fair warning: this is a Regency romance of the kind I particularly dislike, where gently bred, virginal young ladies act like they were born in the 20th century and enthusiastically indulge in steamy premarital sexytimes with the hero (earl, duke, whatever nobility is the flavor of the day). To make matters even worse, from an anachronism point of view, we get the whole scene with "Yes, I lost my virginity to you but I don't want you to propose to me just because of that." Again, understandable in a contemporary romance but utterly unrealistic for 1815 or whenever in Regency times this was supposed to be set. (I was tempted to shelve this as "fantasy" *snickers* but I resisted the temptation for fear I would mislead some poor unsuspecting person checking out my GR bookshelves.) Also, it's a pretty superficially written romance; no depth to it and no surprises.

I skimmed through it and deleted it. Not my cuppa tea, but it might be someone else's who likes rather steamy brain candy romances.

ETA: You know, I thought this author's name sounded familiar when I was reading this book, but I didn't pursue that thought further. I should have. I just checked out the author's page and realized that she wrote Rogues, Rakes & Jewels, which I thought was even more silly and unbelievable than this book (that one I gave 1 star). Claudy will be relieved to know that I'll never read or review another book of hers.

When I left my book at home one day and had nothing to read on my lunch hour, I opened the Kindle app on my phone and went to the book that had been sitting there the longest, which turned out to be this one (since 2015!).

I've struggled with whether to give it 2 or 3 stars. The writing isn't great and didn't really flow smoothly, and there were soooo many words, and strings of words, italicized, for no reason that I could discern. I mean, italics are meant to add emphasis, but if you read the italicized words with emphasis...well, it rarely worked. I did like this line:

She hadn’t meant to lose her heart, but if she looked for it now, she would find it in his hands.

But then there was this:

He pulled back from his kiss and licked her upper lip even as nibbled with his teeth at her bottom lip...

I spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to imagine how he could do both at the same time.

I did like the characters, though Shaun was a bit dense in persisting in believing that Bella was another man's mistress, or a "lightskirt", even as he marveled at how refined she was. And I did manage to get caught up in the story enough that I never considered not finishing it.

And then. The entire book was narrated in third person POV. Until the epilogue, which was narrated by Bella in first person POV. Why? I was so confused. At first I thought maybe she was writing a letter to someone while on her honeymoon, but no. It was just an arbitrary switch.

I think 2.5 stars, rounded up to 3.

I love Claudy Conn Regency Romances. This the story of Lady Arabella (Bella) Cullingham. A 20 year old woman who lives on a country estate with her brother Sir Brentley of Cullingham. After being devastated by a broken heart, her brother decides she must go to London for a season with her aunt, Lady Violet Cullingham. On their way to London they stop at Dorchester. Bella is antsy from the ride and goes for a walk and attempting to take a short cut back comes to a road and startles a driver on his phaeton, the Earl of Magdalen, Shaun Standon. At first thinking her a country merchants daughter, embraces her in a kiss. Through misunderstandings in their conversation he believes Bella to be a "light skirt", the mistress of another man. During her stay in London, Bella and the Earl run across each other several times, with stolen moments and all this time she doesn't correct the Earl on his presumption of herself. After all the Earl is a man who would take a mistress but not a wife. Will love prevail over all or will Bella lose the man she loves. This is a wonderful, fun and romantic read. I love Bella and her strong character and teasing ways. As with all Claudy's female characters, she is kind but doesn't take gruff off of anyone. Of course the Earl of Magdelan, is a sexy, caring strong male with the most gorgeous aqua eyes. If you love a "feel good" romance, you will love this book.

The premise for this book was not evolved enough for a full length novel. It would have made a sweet short story. I skim read the book after the first few chapters. The book was the length it was due to secondary characters.

REVIEW

It’s truly a shame I can only rate this book 5 stars. I would gladly give it a ton more.

We have in this book Sir Brentley of Cullingham and his sister Bella. Both of their parents past away at sea when they were younger. Brent has done all he can in bringing up his sister properly and attending to their estate. But its time he takes his sister to their Aunt Violet for help with giving Bella a season.

Bella is your typical young woman. She has endured her first heartbreak however and is looking forward actually to what may await her. She is one sassy girl that’s for sure..

This book is very well written, I love the comical parts given to the characters throughout the story.
The sexiness, the honor and the strength of family is also brought to the forefront.

I found myself just cracking up laughing through the book. I totally loved it and I am sure if you love regency with a bit of sexy romance you will love it too so grab a copy and get reading !!!

Disorderly Lady by Claudy Conn
Bella Cullingham wants love. She had mistaken what she felt for a selfish rogue as love and won’t be fooled again, or will she? When she happens upon a handsome lord who thinks she is a tart, she realizes maybe her defenses weren’t as good as she thought.

Shaun Standon, the tenth Earl of Magdalen is nine and twenty and not ready for marriage. But, the beautiful redheaded woman he keeps meeting while she’s out alone has peaked his interest...in keeping a mistress that is.

Claudy Conn has outdone herself in this book. People get an idea in their head and see what they think they should see, even when they are way off. The secondary characters are just as wonderful. Bella’s brother Brent and his friend Doyle are a real hoot and their friend James and Rose add even more to the story.

DNF'd when the clunky writing and tedious info-dumps threatened to have me throw my Kindle across the room.

e.g:

He had inherited the grange, the title, and a modest income at the age of fifteen, when both their parents were killed at sea. 'both their parents'.... We have only been introduced to one character - so who is the other??

He was busy with the estate and happy. He loved the managing of their home, and she did as well, although, lately, she was restless.

She had always longed for a London season but never told him so as she could see he loved being in the country.

Colonel Holding teased her, flirted with her and made her fell the woman she had thought she was grown up to be.

Enough.

This was an awesome Claudy Conn book. Her characters are so relateable and the reader can learn to love them. I really loved the characters of Arabella and Shaun. They really did share a special kind of love. Once again, this book was a very enjoyable read. I have been a fan of Claudy for awhile now, and she does not disappoint!! If you want to read a sweet romance, I highly recommend this book...thank you again Miss Claudy.

Wow!

This is my favorite Claudy Conn book thus far. She always makes it easy to love her characters, but I am so in love with Arabella and Shaun. I want their kind of love. This book was a loan from a friend. Thanks for another great love story, Claudy.

This is a sweet sensual book about a headstrong young woman who falls for a supposed rake. Of course she does everything that society dictates young woman should not do...which leads to complications. I enjoyed this book.

Bella is a hoot!! Oh boy did I laugh a ton when reading this book..

Claudy does a spectacular job of telling this tale of love and laughter.

Bella goes to stay with her aunt so she can have a season. She comes across a handsome rogue the Earl of Magdalen. At first meeting he got the wrong impression of her and she never corrected him.

The Earl of Magdelen is not ready to get married, even though his uncle thinks its time. His uncle asked for a favor and on his way to take care of the favor he ran into a beautiful young woman. He would only get her first name Bella. Right away he knew she was different. She made him feel. For the first time he was very confused by it all. He knew something wasn't right about her and he planned on figuring it out.

The Earl of Magdalen Shawn Standon and Bella had a number of spicy encounters throughout the story heating up the pages leaving you wanting, no needing more..

Will Bella come clean to the Earl? and if she does will she lose him?

Read this book if you enjoy fun, witty characters and a passion filled love story with lots of laughs.

Romantic and Funny Regency!!

Lady Bella is a young woman who lives on the countryside with her brother Sir Brentley. When Bella's heart is broken, her brother sends her to London to visit her aunt for a season. While in route to her aunt's home she decides to take a walk to relax and runs into the Earl of Magdalen, Shaun Standon. Shaun thinks she is a mistress for other men. They encounter several romantic moments and Bella never tells Shaun of the kind of Lady she really is.
This was another great book by Claudy Conn. It was even better that I got to listen to it on audio. It was comical, romantic, and well written. I enjoy all Claudy Conn's regencies and can never get enough of her books.

I truly enjoyed this book. It was a light, fun read with little angst. In today's books that is a pretty big deal as the story lines usually seem to be mired in angst and 'happy' comes along in the last two pages. 'Disorderly Lady' was a pleasant surprise. A huge plus for me was a totally hot and faithful man from the moment he met 'the one.' I was a bit worried because of his reputation that he may have dalliances but he did not. He was faithful to his heart even when he assumed she was not. Bless you for that Ms Conn.

I won't go into the details of the story as many others have already done so. It was well written and the editing was spot on!

I really liked this book. The heroine, Bella, does have some distinctly modern-day attitudes, and I doubt that any gently raised Regency miss would throw herself at a veritable stranger the way she does, but I didn't find it jarring. It reads almost like an alternate reality Regency romance (I don't know if that was intentional or not, it's just my opinion), in that it's perfectly believable in the world Ms Conn has written.

I honestly would have given 5 stars, but the Kindle version I have needs some serious editing... doubled words or sentences, missing words, weird punctuation...

Another free Book bub book. I always get them when they come up. The characters have modern sensibilities for Regency characters, but they are cute and don't take a lot of thinking!! Books to read on the phone while waiting in line etc. I am always amazed by people who do not read whenever they have the chance! I am sure they think the same of me, standing in line at Disneyland with a book, reading while waiting anywhere. So glad I gave into a smartphone, so just in case I have forgotten a book, I can still read!

If you want a quick read that's some lighthearted fun then this is the book for you. If you want a logical plot and characters you can get attached to then maybe skip this one?

This was perhaps the weirdest balance between a predictable plot and things just not making sense, I went into this expecting it to be bad though so I feel quite chill about it. At just over 200 pages it wasn't long enough to be considered a waste of my time and so I lowkey kind of enjoyed this, but it was objectively pretty bad.

Also, the romantic interest's name is Shaun and for some reason, I just do not vibe with that.

To be honest, before Claudy Conn, I never cared for Regency Romances. But, I can not put hers down. When a certain young man mistakes a lady for a light-skirt, much entertainment follows. One of Claudy's best!

If it is important for characters to consistently act in character, even though it may make plot development more challenging, this is not the book for you. If you prefer a story to make statements that have meaning, this is not the book for you. If you enjoy a well developed character, this is not the book for you.

In other words, this was not the book for me. I began this book, then put it down, but a friend read it & said she enjoyed it so I thought I'd try again. I finished it this time, but a big part of me really wants the time I spent back.

Please, skip it and go read Julia Quinn. You will not be sorry you did, and you will likely regret the hours of your life lost on this book.

Kindle free read of the day with this saucy regency romance.

Arabella Cullingham and the Earl of Magdalen (Shaun) meet quite by chance, in a most amusing way. Arabella rushes out from some trees right into the path of Shaun’s rushing horses and carriage. The manner in which Arabella has presented herself – and the fact that she is alone – gives Shaun the notion that she is some country lass and a bit of a lightskirt who would be up for a bit of fun. So after making sure she is ok he immediately kisses her senseless. Arabella is in a bit of shock at his behaviour but can’t seem to push him away – she only wants to pull him closer. Only after taking her back to the cottage she is staying at does she understand what he thinks she is. Feeling a little adventurous and naughty she decides to play along. Its not like she thinks she will ever see him again.

Fate and luck have other plans in mind as it keeps putting them in each other’s paths again and again. As more time passes and the more they get to know each other it gets harder for Arabella to tell the truth. She knows she must but fears in doing so she will lose the man she is slowly falling in love with.

This is a comical, saucy regency romance journey where you as a reader are just along for the ride. And what a fun ride it will be, enjoy!

Historical English romance with a young lady in her first London season finding love with the hottest titled bachelor in town because of a misunderstanding.
Miss Arabella Cullingham has just had her first heartbreak, so her older brother decides to move the them to London for the season so that she can have her pick of gentlemen. Bella is a very pretty red head that does a lot of dangerous things that could ruin her reputation because she has a tendency to wander off by herself. Which is very very dangerous, even in modern day London!
Earl of Magdalen, thinks Bella is a high class prostitute when he first meets her alone on the side of a country road. Although he is totally wrong, but the circumstances justify his assumption, as well as the many other meetings in town where Bella is always alone. Cute fluff story with very predictable plot development.
Bella goes around Emma-ing all of her friends and family in this story.
Please read Emma immediately if you haven't yet had the chance because it is a great Jane Austen story about meddling matchmaker themes.

I'm an avid fan of Claudy Conn's books and have loved them all and this one is no exception.

Arabella Cullingham (Bella) is being taken by her brother, Sir Brentley (Brent) Cullingham, to have her season in London to overcome her doldrums. Bella and Brent are very close and Brent feels bad because it was a friend of his that broke Bella's heart. On the way, she almost runs into Shaun Standon's (10th Earl of Magadalen, a handsome and wealthy rake) curricle. He's quite taken with her and since she is unchaperoned, he's under the impression that she is a courtesan. She's quite taken with him but doesn't like his attitude so she doesn't correct his impression of her. Oh boy the sparks fly and the adventure begins!!

Loved all the secondary characters-especially Brent and his friend, Doyle, they are so cute and love their hijinks. Then there is Bella's new friend Rose and Bella's friend and neighbor, Jimmy. There are many things going on in this book, adventure, sexy romance, drama and some belly laughing parts!! You have to read this one, it's quite a fantastic romp and it will make your day so much brighter!!

Love finds a way

Avery nice story of a young woman, Belle, who runs into Earl Magdalen while on a walk, after getting lost. He thinks she's nightshift and she lets disbelieve that. She is staying with her aunt, her brother and his friend, and Rose. Both young girls are going to be introduced to society. Bellies headstrong defies tradition. Her brother,'s friend, James comes to visit and informs them that customary Maria, which will be a marriage of convenience. Belle is determined to see that he disseminated Maria. Belle keeps running into the Earl and finds herself falling more and more in love. The Earl is very confused because he has never felt this way before. There are several twists and turns. If you are looking for a good love story this is it. The only drawback is that in the Epilogue there are several explicit references to sex between two of the characters.

I liked this book but it was a slow start for me. Arabella "Bella" knows what she wants and she's going to get it. Bella also wants all of her friends to be happy and loved . Bella is playing with fire and Magdalen is not afraid to get burned. They are bound to be with each other for fate keeps throwing them together..Will they fall in love?? or will it be a disaster?? I know that it's silly but I love that they can't wait to see each other and be together after all it's a romance that will not end...Magdalen will have her!! he is going crazy without her. He's never felt like this before and must have his lady love...Enough of the cat and mouse game.Magdalen learns Bellas' true identity and couldn't be happier that she's not a "lightskirt" and he tells her he loves her and wants to marry her...she's ecstatic and accepts his proposal. All is fair in love and mischief...

Title: Disorderly Lady
Written by: Claudy Conn
Narrated by Stevie Zimmerman

Rating:
5 out of 5 Hearts

OMGoodness! The comination of Claudy Conn's writing and Stevie Zimmerman's narration is Amazeballs! I Love this Book! Claudy Conn is one of my favorite authors... this is such a wonderful, racy regency.

Arabella (Bella) and Brently (Brent) Cullingham are siblings who lost their parents at sea in their youth. Quite an amazing read. I could listen to it over and over again.

Full of playful twists and unforseen turns, this multi-layered, coming of age, and steamy read has it all.... romance, humor, lust, betrayal, and steam and then some!!

I don't use spoilers in my reviews as they spoil it for others.

Well see, I quite like Bella, Brent and all of their friends. Their banter and reactions were excellently done. I even like our Earl (Duke - whatever he was). And I honestly was going right along with the story even though most of it was unrealistic, I mean I enjoyed it enough to stay up all hours of the night to read it.

But then . . . . we get to the part where he visits Rose at the Cullingham house! And what?? He's still clueless?! I mean really - I could forgive him his error for the 1st half because I was honestly just assuming he didn't care enough to want to know the truth. HOWEVER, when he decides he does and still doesn't get it - that's when I start thinking he's just not right in the head! This has gone beyond silly and I can't keep going . . .

Shame . . could have been a feel good, fun kinda book.
