Sara Sheridan found the courage to escape from under her husband’s oppressive thumb, so she sure wasn’t interested in getting mixed up with another alpha attitude laden male. Especially with her ex hot on her trail.
ALL HE WANTED WAS PEACE AND QUIET
Nick Kelley needed escape from the memories that haunted him. He wanted to just be left alone. So what was it about his reticent neighbor and her child that tempted him to give it up?
THEN LOVE GOT IN THE WAY
Nick and Sara’s growing attraction for each other leads them down a dangerous path as her ex-husband closes in on the new life she’s made for her daughter and herself and threatens to blow it all apart.
Jacquie Biggar is an award-winning USA Today bestselling author of romance who loves to write about tough, alpha males and strong, contemporary women willing to show their men that true power comes from love. She lives on Vancouver Island with her husband and loves to hear from readers all over the world! In her own words: “My name is Jacquie Biggar. When I'm not acting like a total klutz, I am a wife, mother of one, grandmother, and a butler to my calico cat. My guilty pleasures are reality tv shows like Amazing Race and The Voice. I can be found every Monday night in my armchair plastered to the television laughing at the judge's shenanigans. I love to hang at the beach with DH (darling hubby) taking pictures or reading romance novels (what else?). I have a slight Tim Hortons obsession, enjoy gardening, everything pink, and talking to my friends.”
Tidal Falls by Jacquie Biggar is the first book in her Wounded Hearts series, a romantic suspense collection of books with passion, sex, emotions, mystery, and drama. Typically, this isn't a genre I often read, but Biggar's books cross that line and appeal to the masses. It's not all about falling in love and having romantic dates or sexual tension. There are complex plots, historical mysteries, and a bunch of carefully orchestrated scenes to show why life is never easy... but it can bring a ton of happiness when properly balanced.
Sara leaves her abusive husband. He wasn't always bad, but he's far worse now that she'd ever realized. Nick was in the military, and he had a rough go when his unit was ambushed. After many surgeries and years to recover, he's emotionally still upset, especially after what happened when he returned home. When they meet while Sara is on the run, she decides to trust him. But is it a mistake? Connections to her husband suddenly appear, and Nick might not be who she thinks he is... will love win out? Or will the nastiness of vengeance and anger spew like a volcano?
Biggar's writing is so accessible, and by that, I don't mean light or simple. She strings words together effortlessly and breathes beauty and life into her characters. I enjoy her style and approach to telling the stories of people who are real and deserve happiness. While I might not have military experience or children, I could feel the pain and hope Sara and Nick have in this book. Fury erupted over how Tom treated Sara. Great smiles came when Nick's dog and Sara's daughter bonded. There's such a sense of belonging in this book, and I found myself eager to read more and hopeful to find a happy ending.
I don't see myself becoming a major fan of the genre as a whole, but with writers like Biggar, it helps bring more and more intrigue... and that's probably my key point here. Sometimes it's the quality of the writer and not necessarily the genre that can make a book a success. Kudos to the author for showing easily why we should always have an open mind. I see myself reading more in this series, curious if a few characters cross over from time to time, or it's a new set in each book. Either way, definitely one to recommend to others when it's got some steam, tenderness, and shock value. Bravo!
(This is a reread for me. I reviewed the Wounded Hearts #5 novella, Summer Lovin’ earlier for The Romance Reviews.com and was lucky enough to get picked to review the #2 full length novel, The Rebel’s Redemption in this series, so I wanted to refresh. The main novels can be read as standalones, but they are worth reading the whole series in order.)
TIDAL FALLS is the start to the Wounded Hearts romantic suspense series. This book sets you up with all the characters in the small town of Tidal Falls, and you meet the returning SEAL friends that become involved in this and future plots.
Sara Sheridan has fled to hide in Tidal Falls with her daughter to escape a powerful and abusive husband. The copies of computer files she took to trade for her freedom are too important and her ex will do anything to get her back. Getting involved with the hot male across the way will mean revealing her secret and learning to trust again.
Nick Kelley and his war dog are in Tidal Falls to escape memories of a lost best friend and a failed op as he continues to heal. There is something about his neighbor and her daughter across the way that call to him and he just can’t ignore them. His protective side comes out and he calls on his old friends from his team to help when he realizes the scope of the danger Sara is in.
This book is a fast, easy read that has all the aspects I’m looking for in a romantic suspense. The characters are all well written. The plot moves at a steady pace to the climax. The sex scenes are well written, not explicit and well placed in the story. I am looking forward to more stories in this series.
Tidal Falls by Jacquie Biggar is the first book in the Wounded Hearts series. It has everything I love in a great romantic suspense: sexy alpha male, strong independent heroine, slow-burning romance, intense action, a really bad guy after both H/H and a happy ending. I highly recommend this book (and the whole series)!
A woman and her daughter are on the run from her husband. That is when they meet another man who helps them. I enjoyed the characters and the chemistry between them. Liked it.
I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads so thank you so much to Goodreads and Jacquie Biggar for sending this out to me. It is much appreciated.
This book has a good basis for your typical fluffy mills-and-boon-esque story, and who doesn't love one of those? However, it was just not executed as well as it could have been.
First off, the book required further editing, it still had several spelling and grammatical errors throughout. The book also had some errors within the actual storyline - it was confusing determining the sequence of events regarding how long Sara's marriage had lasted and how long she had been in Tidal Falls (several different time periods were mentioned here).
Secondly, this book just contained cliche on top of cliche on top of cliche. And if the book had been further fleshed out i could have dealt with this but this book just dumped new cliches every couple of pages. Parts of the storyline were just completely unrealistic. Sara and Nick fall in love like within a couple of days, they have barely known each other more than a few months yet the neighbour has time to have a photo of them all together in her house, his Navy Seal friend grew up in the same town and his mother is one of Sara's friends and, I can only assume, the father of Annie's son Chris and... that's just for starters...
I also struggled with some of the dialogue, especially when it came to Sara's daughter Jess, some of her dialogue just did not seem realistic for an 8 year old, i have a 7 year old niece who doesn't talk anywhere close to how Jess does.
Tom as a villain i had some real issues with. He just did not make sense to me, he was supposed to have these redeeming qualities and these totally awful characteristics but he was just not believable at all.. all the scenes with him i just really struggled with.
Also, the ending felt really rushed, the whole book is leading us to this big showdown between Sara, Nick and Tom and then the whole thing only lasts about 20-30 pages.
Overall i thought the book had good bare bones but needs a lot of work.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
book 1 of 5 in the wounded hearts series . i had gotten 1 thru five as ARCs though i used KU on the box set and bought Summer Heat for book 5 which these reviews will be back to back anyways so what happens when you flee your ex but find yourself head over heels for someone else . and at the same time thinking you can't be in another relationship . and what if the man you fall for is someone who once knew your ex . are they friends , enemies or can they come to terms that he wants her in his life as she wants him in hers but can ego or trust issues keep them apart or will the truth come out before these two lose each other and can they continue to evade her ex or will the day of reckoning come and for whom . find out by buying or using KU which i find myself using more of lol until next read and review stay tuned for more sexy men and the women they left behind or fall for ,.
Sara and her daughter are on the run. Her ex-husband is abusive and a US Attorney. For the sake of her daughter, she goes on the run and starts a new life. The last thing she wants is to jump into a new relationship, least of all with another alpha male. Nick is a former Navy Seal who is also trying to start over after his career in the military is over. He just wants to be left alone, but Sara's daughter Jessica draws him out. She is irresistible to him, and he can't help but adore the sweet little girl. Nothing worth having is ever simple, however. Sara's ex-husband finds her and shows up at her door. Can Nick and his friends save her? This is a really good, cute book. I liked how while Nick's PTSD and injuries don't themselves faze Sara, while his career as a Navy SEAL and therefore alpha personality give her pause. My only complaint is that I wish his PTSD and injuries had played a bigger part in the book. I feel like they were brushed over, and barely played a part. Overall though, a good book and one I will likely read again.
Sara Sheridan is running with her young daughter from her husband who is a seriously bad guy. She is in the small town of Tidal Falls. Nick Kelley is renting a house across the street from her. She doesn't want to get involved with him but he is helping with repairs around her house. Her daughter adores him and his dog. A relationship develops but her husband is getting close and will do anything to get her back. The suspense is well done. The characters are well drawn. Both have terrible things in their history but both want to try to be a couple. I enjoyed this very much and will continue with other books in the series.
This was an interesting and intense story.i get that love can strike and make you act different but..really a Navy Seal and he messes up? I’m sorry that was the only part of the story I did not care for. Otherwise a good story all in all.
“Tidal Falls” is a romantic thriller set in a charming small town. Sara and her daughter Jessica are on the run from her abusive husband. She feels peace she hasn’t felt in years when she settles in Tidal Falls. Nick is her neighbor who is ex-military and still carrying some wounds from his service. There is steamy chemistry between Nick and Sara, but I love the developing relationship between Nick and Jessica. A wonderful bonus character is Nick’s dog, which really shows his heart. There is enough insight to understand why the characters have the reaction they do, and my favorite part is Nick’s response to danger. This story is fast-paced, and the relationships all felt real to me. Sara harbors enough mistrust to keep her alive, and that spills into her budding friendship with Nick. As backstories unwind and current situations take front and center, I couldn’t stop reading. I am curious about a few unanswered questions yet was satisfied with the ending. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
This book was simply written and at some parts I wished the characters would have more depth to them. Sara runs from her abusive husband and she takes some insurance policy but dear hubby is just a prancer answerable to the real bad guys. The ex-navy guy next door, has a thing for Sara and this is where I wish there was something more about him. An ex-soldier can be spotted a mile away but this guy was just an ordinary Joe and I wished for more. Either way, he saves the day and gets an instant family. A great happily ever after story. Here is my other problem, this plot has been doen before and I think the author should have done a little something different to make it stand out even more.

Confusing and lack of flow between chapters. One minute your reading about Nick and Sara in Tidal Falls the next about Nick 's military buddies in Vegas with absolutely no lead in. It just jumps around introducing characters and situations. Very choppy! Add in that Sara is an idiot, means not a fan of this book! I mean your running from an abusive husband with cartel, human trafficking connections and you don't want the Seal team to handle it "because they could get hurt" so your gonna do it alone?!?! WHAT THE AF?!? Loved the town, the secondary characters and Nick and Jessica wasn't a fan of Sara's or how choppy the story was put together.
I enjoyed the story with its suspense and romance. There were even a few unexpected turns. I'll admit, at times it was hard to follow who was talking or if they were having a flashback or in the present...which is why it received 4 stars. I loved the characters and can't wait to read more in the series. I am looking forward to when Annie sees Jared for the first time and that connection is rekindled!!! When's the next release?
Tidal Falls is a fast paced and relatively short read in the typical Romance/Action style of talented author, Jacquie Bigger.
Sara Sheridon and her daughter are on the run from Sara's abusive husband, Tom. Before escaping from her prison cum home, Sara manages to break into Tom's office and computer and download some very interesting files. Files that associate him with some very bad but powerful people. Sara's simple action, intended to give her some leverage over her husband in order to gain sole custody of her young daughter, backfires when she realises that the information on the memory stick would send Tom to jail and also potentially endanger his life. Sara has landed in the small town of Tidal Falls and has made some very good friends, but she lives her life in fear of discovery.
Nick Kelly has come to Tidal Falls in an effort to relax and unlock the traumatic secrets his mind has blocked out. Break through memories of his turbulent past as a Marine are making his life difficult and Nick is focused on improving his mental state and not on finding love. When he catches sight of Sara, one of his neighbours, he is instantly attracted to her and despite his best intentions not to be distracted, conspires to meet her.
When Sara and Nick's paths cross it is a case of mutual attraction at first sight, but trouble is on the horizon as Tom has found a way of tracking his wayward wife down. Tom wants Sara and the files back and is willing to do anything to find her.
This is an entertaining book which contains the best elements of both a romance with lots of sexual tension and a little sex, and an exciting and action packed plot.
I started this series with Book 7 and liked it so much, I decided to go back to the beginning and read Book 1. The series centers on a group of retired Navy Seals with a tight bond and rough past, all dealing with a mission gone wrong in the Gulf War. The series starts with a focus on Nick and his story.
Nick retreats to the town of Tidal Falls to take some time to get his head right, but across the street is a pretty single mom, Sarah, and her daughter, Jess. The romantic attraction works its way through much of the book’s first half. Sarah has some scary secrets in her past too, and Nick can’t help but go into protective mode. That’s where the rest of his team comes in for a reunion and some action.
I like the blend of romance with action and suspense. Biggar does a great job of “keeping it real” for the characters, and she takes the danger seriously. Nick was my favorite character in this one (there’s nothing sexier than a man who loves kids). There’s some romantic drama, but the second half of the book shifts into gear with the plot to deal with a threat to Sarah and Jess.
This Seal Team is definitely worth checking out. Highly recommended for readers who are looking for solid romance blended with a thriller plot.
Tidal Falls, Washington is the setting for this suspenseful story of the Navy SEAL and the runaway wife escaping her abusive husband. Add in a small town, a diner, a cast of quirky characters and some murderous thugs and you have a brew of explosive desire, danger, and some badass DEA folks. Nick and Sara have already walked through the fire; unfortunately, Sara's husband is not done with her. A small world brings the SEAL Team, the husband, some moms in the wrong place and some thugs in Tidal Falls together for a showdown. There is a HEA though.
Tidal Falls is the first of several books involving veteran SEALS from the same squad, now civilians. I had difficulty putting down the book. The main characters (the good folks) are strong, caring, and honorable. Best of all, the ladies found in these pages are stronger than they appear and the small town they live in welcomes one and all. I am looking forward to the next book in the sequel, to find out more of the story.
Sara and her daughter Jennifer were in the run. Her husband acted like a good guy but he did evil things. Her friend Fiona get lost but Sara found to Tidal Falls & found a life. Nick ended up there after his last discharge from the military and ended up her neighbors. Thank goodness because him and the guys from his old team are needed to help her.
An easy read with plenty happening. I enjoyed the cast of characters, they were interesting and fun at times. I look forward to the next in the series and hopefully a bit more of these guys. Nearly minus 1 star for poor editing, I must be in a good mood.
What a great story. Had to hold my breath a couple times in anticipation. I can see a lot of love stories coming off this one. Can’t wait to read them.
Drama, action and love. What more do you want when you escape from reality for a bit. This author is quite new to me but she's fast becoming one of my favourites.
This is a good romantic suspense story. An abused wife is on the run from her powerful, and corrupt, husband. She finds solace in a small town then meets her new neighbor. He is a wounded vet who is running from his own demons. Sparks fly between the pair but it’s a small world, and her husband uses the vet’s past against him. Great ending.
Tidal Falls by Jacquie Biggar is more than just wounded hearts or oppressive marriage. It has a well-defined plot that keeps you hooked with the ups and downs of life and some hard decisions that change the course of life for Sara as well as Nick. The story moves at a steady pace and hinges on relationships and emotions. It celebrates friendships and moments of happiness despite the initial hurts. A thread of positivity links all the characters except Tom.
Sara flees her home and takes her daughter Jess along with her. She knows her filthy rich husband who is a well-connected lawyer would hunt her down but she meets happiness in the form of some wonderful friends. How long would she enjoy this freedom? Can she trust Nick? Keep guessing till the end!
The characters have been crafted with a broader stroke, giving immense confidence and independence to women. Sara’s agony and skepticism could reach my heart; Nick’s open-minded approach to life is commendable and the friendship worth emulating. Realistic as well as challenging situations add an element of thrill to this book.
Great book. The first in the Wounded Heart series. My first book by this author. Sara Sheridan was trying to start her life over. She wanted to keep her daughter far away from her ex husband. Jessica was her life. Tidal Falls seemed a great place. That was until she met Nick Kelley. On one hand he was handsome and very nice to her daughter. He was hot as all get out. There was an instant attraction, but she couldn’t fall for that again. She needed protection when something happens, and she thinks maybe he can help. But when Nick betrays her she can’t bare her heart again.
Nick wants to meet his shy neighbor. His dog Jake helps him out in that department. He will do anything to help her out. Even call on his friends from the US Marine Corps..but things become really interesting. He’s fallen hard for Sara and her daughter Jessica. It broke his heart after hearing the things her daughter was telling his dog Jake.
See what happens. Some very heated scenes and some great suspense in it.
I just started book #2 The Rebels Redemption about one of Nicks friend.
I read this novel when it was first released (Sept 2014) and just finished re-reading it. I remember truly enjoying it the first time. That didn't change; I truly enjoyed it this time; maybe more so.
I always loved the two main characters, Sara and Nick. And of course, the other two, Sara's daughter Jessica and Nick's dog, Jake. The camaraderie of the Nick and his SEAL team buddies also adds a great addition to the novel.
There is a bit of mystery, intrigue, history (the past of the characters), friendship, love, hope for finality for Sara, and an expectation that they all will be able to move forward. Those last two are left a bit up in the air...
I absolutely love the characters and truly enjoyed the main storyline, as well as the back story of the characters. The author has written a very well told novel, one that is enjoyable, fun, heartwarming, yet serious and one that addresses multiple difficult issues, both personal to the characters and overall to the public.
(An aside that has no reflection on the novel: The male characters had been part of SEAL team 5 together. Yet one had his history of being a Marine touted a few times and another one was with the DEA while also being on the team and it was unclear how these two roles coincided. These do not affect the novel in any way, but for those with military knowledge, they may stick out.)
Nick is back home from a stint in the Navy that almost cost him his life. However he doesn't want to be part of a pity party and decides to go bury himself in a small town, Tidal Falls, while he finishes recuperating. He has withdrawn into himself and Jake his dog who was also injured with him, is the closest thing he has to companionship. What he doesn't account for is a pretty neighbour in the form of Sara. Sara is on the run from her abusive ex husband and keeping her daughter safe is of paramount importance to her. Sara does not trust people easily, especially not men. And when the man in question is gorgeous Nick, she is beginning to question her own rules. However the threat of her past catching up is a very distinct reality. One that comes crashing into her own safe little world in Tidal Falls. Sara will never forgive herself if Nick gets hurt because of her, but without his help she will never be rid of her ex-husband. When Nick's old buddies show up to support them Frank and Jarade do not know what they are getting into, but they are willing to give it all they've got.
