All she wanted was freedom, all she wanted was to understand why she was different from everyone she knew, she no longer wanted to feel different and out of place. She wanted to escape her family and the world as she knew it to be.
This is a dark paranormal romance, it's RH and has many triggers, so beware, this is the first book but not the last, the story will continue in more books to come. Eventually there will be HEA but not until the end of the series, get ready for dominant, possessive, controlling, alpha men, a strong FMC who is morally gray and a tad insane. If the men are possessive, the female is something else entirely, possessive is not a strong enough adjective for her.
All she wants is to be accepted and loved all they want is a mate that will obey and look the other way
This is a dark RH paranormal romance, all characters have morally gray views of what's right and wrong but especially the main characters, Anastacia and her harem of men. This story is told from multiple POV's and the men in this story are not sweet and nice, there are no cinnamon roll characters.

Warning
This is a very dark romance series; it could be categorized as a horror/romance. There is very strong suggestive material throughout and lots of violence and carnage, it is not meant to be light. The books become darker as they go on and must be read in order to understand the characters and storyline. The FMC is basically unhinged, she is brutal and has very gray morals, the men are just as bad as she is except they can be extremely cruel. There are no cinnamon roll characters and no snowflakes, no one is kissing each other’s butts or bowing down to one another. Then men are borderline abusive throughout and will remain that way until closer to the end.
This is book 1 in the series and will have 5 more books till it's finished, there will be a HEA at the end of book 6.
After a several month-long reading hiatus, I decided to shake it up a bit. This is a taboo dark erotic reverse heram romance. It will definitely scratch the itch if you like the dark, depraved, slightly uncomfortable reads. For me, i ate that shit up. It starts off a bit slow but boy oh boy, hold on to your oh-shit bar about midway through. Almost every taboo topic is touched upon- incest, violence, age gap, sexual violence, power gaps...im certain im missing some. Sex scenes voley btwn hot as heck to OMG WTF just happened. Personally, it was one of those 'refreshing' reads bc it DOES NOT follow the typical strong independent FMC coupled with the "bad ass" males that grovel at the chick's feet.
Ana is raised by abusive parents who appear to know she's not human. Ana herself is quite crass. She reminds me of cross btwn someone on the spectrum and a sociopath. She struggles with expressing emotions, lacks empathy, and sees the world in black and white. We get a bit of the family and Ana's backstory as events lead up to a planned summer vacation at the beach to celebrate Ana's 18th birthday. People die and/or get maimed all around her leading up to the vacation.
Ana world is turned upside down when she enters the ocean for the 1st time. The innate mate calling happens. Meet Kai. (Insert swoon). I hated and loved Kai at different times in this book. Rooting for and cursing out these mates will happen throught the book.
Once Ana and Kai reach the castle, you're in for a whirlwind of obscene, shocking, and downright uncomfortable scenarios that will make you think WTF did I just read?!? It was riveting to say the least. I absolutely 100% fell in love with the FMC and that never happens for me. This girl is not a whiner, heck, she doesn't even like talking. She does not adapt well to the repressed female roles of the Siren race and this causes quite a lot of trouble for her. Furthermore, she has a possessive streak out of this world. NOBODY is to touch her mates. And this girl is about to DISTROY some women. The chemistry and sexual attraction is off the charts. IDK... it was oddly satisfying to both like and hate the MCCs as well.
Ana and her 5 mates butt heads when it comes to the men's promiscuity. They definitely bully her and physically punish her on several occasions. Be prepared to read that, if its not your cup of tea i would suggest passing this one up. Book one ends in an epic murder scene when Ana annihilates a sex worker that slept with her mates. I was low key bouncing in my seat as i watched her stalk that girl. I KNEW Ana was about to lose her shit! On to book 2!

Love Anastacia and her men, Nox is probably my favorite so far. It’s not your typical romance, it’s intense and captivating, I love how this is not your typical dark romance. It’s not just the men that are ruthless but the FMC is as well and it’s awesome how ruthless she becomes. I can’t wait to see how it all plays out, and what Anastacia does next.
0 Stars – Deeply Disappointing and Misleading Series Review of the Sirens Series (to date) by Mandie Rae
I rarely leave reviews like this, but I feel compelled to speak up after pushing through the available books of this series. I went into Sirens expecting a reverse harem/why choose romance with dark themes - what I got instead was a disturbing, repetitive, and frankly misleading experience that left me frustrated and uncomfortable.
To be clear: this is not a reverse harem in any recognizable or respectful form. The genre expectations are completely disregarded in favor of what can only be described as a cycle of abuse masquerading as romance. There’s a difference between dark romance and outright exploitation, and unfortunately, this series repeatedly crosses that line.
The plot is virtually nonexistent. From book one through to book four, the main storyline barely evolves, the main character remains stuck in the same toxic loops, and the love interests continue with behavior that would be considered unforgivable in any other context. The emotional development is stunted, the relationships lack any semblance of consensual growth or respect, and the tone often feels shockingly flippant toward deeply serious issues.
I’m not sure how or why this series was positioned within the why choose subgenre, but it’s a poor and even harmful fit. The series leans heavily on graphic violence, abuse, and manipulation without the emotional payoff or narrative purpose that dark romance typically requires to be effective or meaningful.
I can handle gritty, I can handle morally grey - what I can’t handle is watching trauma be repackaged as romance without thought or care. Every character was unlikable, and the storytelling felt stuck on repeat, with only the shock factor being turned up with each book.
This is, hands down, the most difficult and disappointing series I’ve ever read in this genre. I can only hope that future books from this author take a more thoughtful approach - or at the very least, are more accurately marketed.
I can only imagine what BookTok will say when they get their hands on this.
It’s genuinely baffling how this book - let alone the entire series (thus far) - made it to publication in its current form. The content is, at best, deeply questionable and, at worst, deeply concerning. It reads like a personal catharsis more than a coherent or responsibly written story. If this was meant to be therapeutic, I sincerely hope more supportive outlets are being explored beyond publishing "fiction".
