First Cumtact

But when one of the men decides even that might not solidify his place in history, he comes up with a plan to make sure his name will never be forgotten...
Alienated
Struggling with isolation and depression, Todd spends his days refusing to interact with anyone else. But when a strange grey alien rings his doorbell, Todd will finally find a reason to care about the outside world again…Just in time for the planet to be destroyed!
Midnight Monster Madness is an absolutely wild ride from start to finish. I was able to read this for free because of BookSirens. This short sci-fi horror story throws you into an eerie cave expedition that quickly spirals into bizarre encounters, questionable scientific decisions, and some of the most unhinged character dynamics you’ll ever read. The pacing is relentless, balancing unsettling horror with unexpected (and often absurd) humor.
The author excels at creating a sense of unease while also delivering some truly laugh-out-loud moments—whether intentional or not. The characters make choices that range from bold to downright ridiculous, and the dialogue keeps things entertaining. If you enjoy stories that blur the line between cosmic horror and dark comedy, this book will definitely keep you engaged.
While it leans into the absurd, there’s still an underlying emotional core, especially in the latter half, where themes of survival, identity, and unexpected bonds emerge. The conclusion is chaotic in the best way, leaving you with plenty to think (or laugh) about long after you finish.
Overall, Midnight Monster Madness is an unpredictable, fast-paced read that thrives on shock value and humor. If you’re up for a short but memorable sci-fi horror experience, this one’s worth checking out.
Fourth installment of the Midnight Monster Madness series, where James Sabata and Vincent V. Cava unleash their imagination within the realms of horror, science fiction, and absurdity.
Unlike the previous installment, this time James Sabata delivers the best story, "Alienation," with touches of humor reminiscent of Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett. It's a great story and shows that Sabata is not limited to the horror genre.
"First Cumtact" by Cava is the disappointment of this installment. Unlike his previous story "Gas Station Dick Pills," where a similar theme was approached in a better way, this time his story is simple and ends up being a tasteless anecdote.
Recommended for Sabata's story, and if you want to read both authors in a more terrifying facet, I recommend the first two books of the series.

Maybe it’s because it’s not my usual genre, or perhaps because it was just too short for me to really get into but alas I didn’t enjoy this book.
Considering it is meant to be horror there was nothing horror about it at all, in fact it was more just sci-fi.
The first story was just crazy, and whilst it did make me laugh a few times I just found it a little cringy.
The second story faired slightly better and does actually make you think about where AI is heading. You could also relate with Todd (the main character) somewhat on an emotional level.
A quick read, if it wasn’t for the fact it’s an ARC I would’ve DNF’d this book.
Vincent V. Cava and James Sabata does it again in the Midnight Monster Madness series, it had that element that I was wanting from the previous three books in this series. Each story continued the theme perfectly and I think my favorite was Alienated. It felt like it belonged in this series and was glad it was so well done. I enjoyed the scifi horror element to this and am excited for more.

Where have these been all my life? I was laughing my tooshie off. First Cumtact, just by the name, I knew it was gonna be good. Lori reminded me of Stiffler from American Pie. Alienated was a cute story with sadness thrown in. Reminded me of the movie "Home." At least that's how I pictured it while reading. But great stories with humor, very entertaining and enjoyable. I'm ready for the next one.

Well , It made me laugh. Out loud at times. Silly good fun , in two short stories. While it's not really my normal read . Give it a fair shot. Maybe it'll make you laugh or maybe it'll scare you under the covers.

Nice light quick read, nothing too deep or particularly scary. Good if you are after an interesting premise and no clear-cut answers, while the story is complete there is obviously more that could have been said. Very good descriptions of the scenarios helped me immerse myself into the story. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I have read all of these hilarious installments of monster madness.
The two stories are both great. Funny and clever. If you love sci-fi horror comedy books, then this is the series for you. I received this book free from Booksirens for an honest review.
The Midnight Monster Madness is one of the best pulp horror series around, and the latest entry of this creature double-feature might be the very best.
In the fourth edition, we get two stories: First Cumtact and Alienated. Two stories that offer a bit of horror and a bit a camp centered around alien beings.
In First Cumtact, three astronauts are exploring deep space and are competitive to be the first to do whatever will get them in the history books. When one of the explorers decides to do something that NO ONE has ever done before, the rest of the crew has thoughts...or thots.
I laughed so many times during First Cumtact. Not only was it funny, but the dialogue was written in such a natural way. It felt like these three explorers had been together for a very long time, so their interactions felt genuine, which lead to a very fun time reading the story. The story reminded me of an old 60s sci-fi movie, but with an absurd twist that I'd always expect from the MMM series. The illustrations that went along with the story also added to the vintage aesthetic.
Alienated offers the reader a more emotional encounter with an alien. Todd is not having the best day, month, or really life, but when one day an alien knocks on his door, everything changes.
Alienated ended up being far more moving and endearing compared to the light hearted feeling of First Cumtact- I don't think I was expecting a story to really tug at my heart as much as this one did. I really felt for Todd and the experiences he was facing, and the ending- wow!
One of the best parts of Alienated was the pop culture references. (Was that a Wizard of Oz reference in there?) It really kept the story feeling rooted in a world that I was familiar with and I found myself feeling nostalgic in the story.
Overall, both of these stories compliment each other in such a great way. The whole book is very short, making it a great afternoon read. I was able to read the entire book in about 30 minutes.
MIDNIGHT MONSTER MADNESS: First Cumtact/Alienated By: Vincent V. Cava and James Sabata Release: 4/15/25 Page count: 53 KU: Yes Hoopla: No
Synopsis: Two very different (and possibly new kinks to unlock) stories with aliens as the centered theme.
First line: “Another cave. Another stupid, goddamn cave.”
Favorite line: “I’m going to fuck it.”
Thoughts: First Cumtact - Lori may be a whiny bitch but he’s a funny one. A fun throwback to sci-fi movies of yesteryears. Think Alien but with tentacle porn.
Alienated - What goes great after your favorite Chinese food? A bullet to the skull of course! Well, not if Nova can hep it. This was oddly heartwarming, sweet, and hilarious.
